Santa Cruz - Let Them Burn

The Finnish glam rockers SANTA CRUZ is out touring with MUSTASCH, see the dates below. They also have dropped a new video for the latest single and today's tune "Let Them Burn" that is taken from their eponymous 2nd album "SANTA CRUZ", released Mars 2015.

The tune is a heavy catchy glamcore piece :) The video captures the essence of the band’s explosive shows.

SANTA CRUZ formed in 2007 in Helsinki by Archie Kuosmanen and Johnny Parkkonen. The following year, bass player Middy Toivonen joined in. The band released two demos in 2008-2009. After changing a number of temporary drummers, they finally settled for a full-time drummer, Taz Fagerström in 2009 becoming a 4-member band. After a self-released EP of 6 songs titled "Anthems for the Young 'n' Restless", they signed with Finnish Spinefarm Records in 2012 and released their first studio album "Screaming for Adrenaline" in April 2013. Their eponymous 2nd album "SANTA CRUZ" was released in March 2015. The album featured a heavier sound than the previous and the band has described its sound as "glamcore".

Arttu "Archie" Kuosmanen - vocals, rhythm and lead guitar, acoustic guitar (2007–present)
Joonas "Johnny" Parkkonen - lead and rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, backing vocals (2007–present)
Mitja "Middy" Toivonen - bass, backing vocals (2008–present)

Khemmis - Ash, Cinder, Smoke

New week, a new Monday and a new "The Record Of The Week"

A quartet from Denver US, we find the 20 Buck Spin début "Absolution" with KHEMMIS. A band that bumped into by accident during a bandcamp surf a boring evening when the hole family was watching some reality show! Something that I skip and use that time to listen to music instead and this is something that I just love.

"Absolution" have all the components that's needed to be a listenable record. A slow, heavy doom album with melodic nasty guitar tones that reminiscent of stoner metal and a mix of contemporary sludge. It's progressive and brutal without getting too much in one direction. The riffs are cleaver, where the solos partly sings "classic metal" and the rhythm section doing their job to create a massive heavy and progressive atmosphere. The vocals are mixed between deadly growls and very clean. A terrific way to work out the vocal part on this record. The result is "Absolution" a six track, forty-minute journey of properly crafted tunes that shows a very high level writing skill and musicianships. KHEMMIS music breathe fresh and forge a new brick to what heavy progressive doom rock is in 2015.

Summary: "Absolution" is among the biggest surprises of the year. KHEMMIS have made the best debut album of 2015!

Rare Bird - Sympathy

And when you climb into your bed tonight
And when you lock and bolt the door
Just think of those out in the cold and dark
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round

And sympathy is what we need my friend
And sympathy is what we need
And sympathy is what we need my friend
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round
No, there's not enough love to go 'round

Now half the world hates the other half
And half the world has all the food
And half the world lies down and quietly starves
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round

And sympathy is what we need my friend
And sympathy is what we need
And sympathy is what we need my friend
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round
No, there's not enough love to go 'round...

Lyrics of today's Sunday Classic, a text that feels very important, even today, no matter if it was written 45 years ago.

"Sympathy" is a 1970 song by English rock band Rare Bird. It became a hit in continental Europe and sold one million copies worldwide.

The song was also recorded by Steve Rowland and The FAMILY DOGG and MARILLION. It was also recorded by Daliah Lavi in English and German language.

The cover art features a painting by Marc Harrison titled The Birdwoman Of Zartacla (later also used for the cover of the June 1981 issue of the Heavy Metal magazine).

Rare Bird was a progressive rock band founded in 1969. They were formed in England, but had more success in other European countries than they did at home. They are mostly remembered for the haunting, organ-based track "Sympathy".

Enjoy today's tune and don't forget does that doesn't have as good as we do.

ELO - When I Was a Boy

Jeff Lynne, the studio-pop perfectionist and the mastermind behind ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA is back with a new album "Alone In The Universe", ELO's first album of brand new songs in nearly 15 years. First single and today's tune “When I Was A Boy” is a melodic, typical ELO 70's-style pop.

"Alone In The Universe" is set to be released at Nov. 13. With this release, it's Lynne’s first studio album under the ELO banner since 2001’s Zoom.

The ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA (ELO) are a British rock group from Birmingham, England. They were formed to accommodate Roy Wood's and Jeff Lynne's desire to create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones. After Wood's departure following the band's debut record, Lynne wrote and arranged all of the group's original compositions and produced every album. In 2012, Lynne reformed the band under the moniker Jeff Lynne's ELO. After this there have been several reunions, both small and big.

The success of the Children in Need was followed by BBC Radio 2's DJ Chris Evans, who asked his listeners if they wanted ELO to perform. The 50,000 tickets for the resulting BBC Radio 2's "Festival in a Day" in Hyde Park on 14 September 2014 sold out in 15 minutes. Billed as "Jeff Lynne's ELO", Lynne and Tandy were backed by the Take That/Gary Barlow band from the Children In Need concert, led by Mike Stevens and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Chereene Allen took to the front line with the band. The development of modern digital processing added a smoother finish than previously, which has led Lynne to reconsider his preference for studio work, hinting at a UK tour in 2015.

Today's tune is with Jeff Lynne's ELO performing "When I Was A Boy".

Crisalida - Morir Aquí

CRISÁLIDA is a progressive Rock band from Chile released an album "Terra Ancestral" April 2015. The album was produced by Daniel Cardoso (drummer of ANATHEMA). "Terra Ancestral" tells stories about our powerful south, its majestic forests and about the ignored suffering in our Patagonia.

CRISÁLIDA merges the best of rock, metal, ambient and folk; and they certainly know how to handle those four musical coordinates. Put PINK FLOYD, PORCUPINE TREE together with the most recognized Chilean bands like LOS JAIVAS and FULANO in a mixer and you will get CRISÁLIDA.

The band was formed in back in 1997. Thirteen years later, the illusion of creating atmosphere through music remains intact. A female voice with an outstanding character followed by four professional musicians, thoughtful lyrics and a captivating live performance brings the perfect balance within musical power and finesse.

They have made them self a good name back home with earning following Chilean awards: "2006 revelation band of the year" from Radio Futuro, the main and most important Classic Rock Radio Station in Chile;

"2008 Best Avant-garde Album" with their album "Raco". They have also constantly been part of several Chilean music Festivals and music events:

The 2nd Summit of Chilean Rock in 2008 and Pepsi's Music tour in 2009; supporting the shows for the very well known rock band The GATHERING TWICE (2007 and 2010) and for DEEP PURPLE in 2009.

CRISÁLIDA: Spanish term for chrysalis (Latin chrysallis, from Greek khrūsallis = chrysallís, pl: chrysalides) or nympha is the pupal stage of butterflies; derived from the metallic gold-colouration found in the pupae of many butterflies referred to by the Greek term khrūsos (chrysós) for gold.

Crisálida is:

Cinthia Santibañez, Vocals
Damian Agurto, Guitars
Braulio Aspé, Bass
Rodrigo Sánchez, Drums
Felipe Troncoso, keyboards

This is the first album to feature guitarist and bandleader Jeff Waters performing lead vocals on all tracks since 1997's Remains, due to the departure of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dave Padden in December 2014. Shakra - Hello

Mark Fox is back together with Swiss hard rockers SHAKRA. Chris von Rohr said the following after former singer John Prakesh left the band in early 2014: “Let’s bring back together what belongs together”.

That being said, it took a while till the early disputes had been put aside but in late summer of 2014 it was clear to everyone that it’s time to do it again Since that point of time, the whole band shed blood, sweat and tears to finish their new album High Noon which will be out on January 29, 2016.

Reunited with vocalist Mark Fox (aka Markus Fuchs), last heard from back in 2009, SHAKRA send out the melodic rockin' "Hello" in advance of the 2016 release of the group's tenth studio album, High Noon. As usual with the consistently strong and reliable SHAKRA, the twin guitar team of Thom Blunier and Thomas Muster power the tight Swiss group. Fox augments the SHAKRA show of force with his vivacious vocal delivery. The tune is a really melodic rockin' piece, see the video or check it out at Spotify, all can be find below!

With their first releases "Shakra" (1997), and "Moving Force" (1999), and by touring with GREAT WHITE and URIAH HEEP, the early career of this Swiss band was a steep learning curve with dramatic success but the real breakthrough came with their third record "Power Ride" (2001) when singer Pete Wiedmer was forced to leave the band because of ill health, replaced by Mark Fox. Mark immediately put his stamp on the following album "Rising" (2003), which saw SHAKRA rise higher on the career ladder than ever before and hit the German and Swiss album charts. The band played several concerts and festivals, one of which was the prestigious "Bang Your Head" event. The controversial video clip for the song "Chains Of Temptation" showed singer Fox giving himself a heroin injection.

And, after supporting IRON MAIDEN at the Swiss "Spirit Of Rock" festival, SHAKRA then took the decision to tour through 12 countries with HAMMERFALL and STRATOVARIUS. The band played a huge show in Zurich with GUNS N' ROSES in 2006.

Shortly after the Everest album was released, Mark Fox left the band and was replaced by John Prakesh on vocals. On April 23, 2014, John Prakesh announced he was leaving SHAKRA.
And Mark Fox rejoined the band :)

Today's Lineup:

Vocals: Mark Fox
Guitar: Thom Blunier
Guitar: Thomas Muster
Bass: Dominik Pfister
Drums: Roger Tanner

Today's tune "Hello" is taken from the upcoming tenth studio album "High Noon"

Q5 - Steel The Light

New week, a new "The Record Of The Week"

Today, we'll throw in a classic, we jump back to 1984!

1984 was a year that I spent every single penny I earned on records. What a year 1984 was, albums like "Perfect Strangers" with DEEP PURPLE that got shit loads of play time back in the days. "Heaven's on Fire" with KISS & "Jump" with VAN HALEN was on the radio and at the disco. JUDAS PRIEST release the heavy smoker "Defenders of the Faith" that got me into a wish for a leather jacket that I never got, as it was to hard for a kid to wear :/ and METALLICAs "Ride the Lightning", the two records that my friends and I played air guitar to. MARILLION releases "Fugazi" an album that I bought several years later, It was to odd for my taste back then. Other albums that I think I got during this time was "Thunder Seven" with TRIUMPH, "Out of the Cellar" with RATT, "Slide It In" with WHITESNAKE, "In Rock we trust" with Y&T, "Love at First Sting" with SCORPIONS, "Powerslave" with IRON MAIDEN, "The Warning" with QUEENSRYCHE, "Last In Line" with DIO, "Stay Hungry" with TWISTED SISTER and "Condition Critical" with QUIET RIOT. Another odd but interesting record that found it's way to my home was the selftitled album with W.A.S.P. , this was the scariest album that I had at that time.

Anyway, there was certainly more of good records that I found during this year. However, none of the above, is what I had in mind this time. But a little more unusual bird like the Seattle rock band Q5 and the record "Steel the Light". I know many will say WHAT?

"Steel the Light"is an remarkable album. It contains nine fabulous songs over 37 minutes, which end before you even realize it. The album opens up with a real blaster "Missing In Action", heavy, thrashy and melodic with excellent riffs from Floyd Rose and Rick Pierce. The vocals from Jonathan K. is fabulous, high range and incredibly accurate. Already here the band sets the standards on what to expect. The second song ''Lonely Lady'' is a melodic tune of very catchy galloping riffs. The third track is the title track, the album Opus with a guitar riffs that you will get u goose bumps. The solo is epic and your cheek will fall to the ground like a mountain cliff that loses it's grip and falls down. The album just continues on the same line "Pull The Trigger" with its smart guitar riffs and solos working together with a high range vocals. "Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady" is more old school rocker from the 70's but with the 80's metal with a very high standard, so easy, so good. "In the Night" slows down the tempo, here does the vocals got a more mid range with finger flick on a blues rock base. "Come and Gone" is the album ballad, a heartbreaking tune with guitars that dig deep in you and vocals that almost puts your eyes in tears. The two final tunes "Rock On" and "Teenage Runaway" turns up the tempo and ends the record with the banner at the top!

To summarise "Steel the light" is a album that YOU absolutely need this in your collection, period!

Q5 was formed in 1983 by members of two popular Seattle bands: vocalist Jonathan K and guitarist (famous guitar tremolo inventor) Floyd Rose from THE C.O.R.E. and Rick Pierce (guitar), Evan Sheeley (bass) and Gary Thompson (drums) from TKO. Q5 released its first album, "Steel The Light", in 1984, receiving immediate critical acclaim, and landing them tours with TWISTED SISTER, Y&T and LITA FORD. The success of "Steel The Light" led them to eventually sign with Polygram/Squawk for their 1985 sophomore release "When The Mirror Cracks", but due to personal differences, the original lineup dissolved shortly after this release.

In 2014, Q5 was asked to perform at Sweden Rock Festival, a performance that the band had agreed would be a "one-off" show, but at the completion of the performance, it was obvious that this was not an ending, but merely a beginning. Upon returning to Seattle, the band secured drummer Jeffrey McCormack (formerly of HEIR APPARENT, FIFTH ANGEL) again, and guitar virtuoso Dennis Turner to complete the lineup. Reformed Seattle rockers Q5 have inked a deal with Frontiers and a new album will see the light next year, can't wait.

Bands such as GREAT WHITE, WOLF, OCTOBER 31 and many others have covered songs from the album, and fans are writing from all corners of the globe, eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the Q5 story... That chapter begins NOW!

The innovative guitarist Floyd Rose is otherwise best known for being the inventor of the locking tremelo system, the now indispensable device that ensures the guitar stays in tune even after the heaviest of tremelo use.

This double locking system was notable for its ability to stay in tune despite repeated use and wide variations in pitch. His design was later recognized on Guitar World 's "10 Most Earth Shaking Guitar Innovations."

Todays tune "Steel The Light" is as a "classic" and a "must-have in any metalhead's collection."

Ozzy Osbourne - Centre Of Eternity

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Centre Of Eternity" is a tune taken from the third studio album "Bark at the Moon" by British heavy metal vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, originally released on 15 November 1983. The album features former Mickey Ratt and ROUGH CUTT guitarist Jake E. Lee, who replaced guitarist Randy Rhoads who had been killed a year earlier in a plane crash.

Bark at the Moon is the only Ozzy Osbourne album on which the songwriting is credited entirely to Osbourne. However, guitarist Jake E. Lee maintains that he composed a significant amount of the album’s music but was cheated out of his writing and publishing claims by Osbourne’s wife and manager Sharon. Lee claims that after he had composed the songs and completed recording his parts in the studio, he was presented with a contract which stated that he would have no claim to any writing or publishing relating to the album. The contract also stated that Lee could not mention this publicly. Lee claims he signed the contract because he had no legal representation and because Sharon threatened to fire him and have another guitarist re-record his parts if he refused.

Osbourne himself admitted several years later in the liner notes to The Ozzman Cometh that Lee had been involved in the album's writing to at least some degree, stating that the album's title track was in fact co-written by the guitarist. Osbourne's bassist at the time, Bob Daisley, has mirrored Lee's account of the album's production, stating that he co-wrote most of the music with Lee and wrote the vast majority of the lyrics. Daisley has stated that he accepted a buyout from Osbourne in exchange for writing credit. Osbourne's former drummer Lee Kerslake, who also played with Daisley in URIAH HEEP after leaving Osbourne's band, stated that Daisley had been hired by Sharon Osbourne to write the Bark at the Moon album for "$50–60,000 or whatever it is. He was offered the chance to write with Ozzy. Words, music – write the album."

Some European pressings identified the track "Centre of Eternity" as "Forever". On tours for the album, Osbourne referred to it as "Forever". This can be heard on bootleg recordings of tours promoting the album. The title track was released as the album's first single with an accompanying music video. In the early 1980s infancy of the music video medium, the video, which was the first Osbourne had made, was highly anticipated due to his outrageous image. The decision to release "So Tired", a ballad, as the album's second single, was unpopular with many longtime fans. The track "Spiders in the Night" was originally only included on the European and Japanese releases, but was included on the 1995 CD reissue and the 2002 reissue, on which it was listed simply as "Spiders".

Composed by Daisley, the lyrics to the song "Now You See It (Now You Don't)" were a pointed rebuke aimed at Osbourne's wife and manager Sharon, who had fired him from the band in 1981. Daisley stated many years later that he was surprised the Osbourne camp allowed the lyrics on the album.

Shortly after Bark at the Moon's 1983 release, a Canadian man named James Jollimore murdered a woman and her two children after allegedly listening to the album. The timing was particularly inopportune for Osbourne, who was at the time facing allegations that his song "Suicide Solution" had influenced a fan to commit suicide.

Bark at the Moon is Osbourne's only studio album to feature drummer Tommy Aldridge, who was a fixture of Osbourne's live band for several years in the early to mid-1980s.
