"Dreamline" is a song by the Canadian rock band RUSH. It was released as a single and on their 1991 album "Roll The Bones". The song peaked at number one on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and was a staple for live performances by RUSH, having been performed on every tour from the inaugural "Roll The Bones Tour" until the 2010 and 2011 "Time Machine Tour", when it was dropped. It was performed during the subsequent "Clockwork Angels Tour", where it was accompanied by the "Clockwork Angels" string ensemble and a video with a dedication to Neil Armstrong. It was dropped again on the 2015 "R40 Tour". In live performances, the bridge was extended to incorporate a solo by Alex Lifeson.
Bassist and singer Geddy Lee said: "I love the spirit of "Dreamline" and the way Neil captures that feeling of wanderlust and invulnerability that comes in a particular trying time in your life."
Martin Popoff said that the song is "strafed by a crouching-then-striking verse and clouds-breaking chorus. It is a track that proved to be strong enough to open the "Different Stages" live album seven years later and then stay tenaciously in the set for the "Vapor Trails Tour"."
AllMusic writer Eduardo Rivadavia called the song "gutsy" and also said that "Dreamline" is one of their best songs from the '90s.
Monday and it's a new week, new month and it's not time for the "Record Of The Week" just yet. We will give it a week or two before we start again. This week is the anual Pride week here in Stockholm, (read about it https://www.stockholmpride.org/) so I thought why not pay attention to it a bit. Not because I have a shared sexuality but many in my friendship and work colleagues are one or the other and I do not judge them. The choice is entirely up to everyone, some are born in the wrong body, others are drawn to the same sex, some can not decide and like both.
So for this week, we'll pay attention to the artists or pioneering icons that are or supports the LGBTQ. Whether through their direct messages or a knack for creating effervescent, life-affirming pop, rock shaking musicians that have change the world for LGBTQ.
The first one out is the Canadian pop and country singer-songwriter and occasional actress K.D. Lang. Lang has won Juno Awards and Grammy Awards for her musical performances. Hits include the songs "Constant Craving" and "Miss Chatelaine".
A mezzo-soprano, Lang has contributed songs to movie soundtracks and has collaborated with musicians such as Roy Orbison, Tony Bennett, Elton John, THE KILLERS, Anne Murray, Ann Wilson, and Jane Siberry. She performed at the closing ceremony of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta and at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she performed Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah".
Lang has also been active as an animal rights, gay rights, and Tibetan human rights activist. She is a tantric practitioner of the old school of Tibetan Buddhism. Lang, who came out as a lesbian in a June 1992 article of the LGBT news magazine The Advocate, has championed gay rights causes.
Today's tune "Constant Craving" is a song written by K.D. Lang and Ben Mink, performed by K.D. Lang on her second album, "Ingénue". The song was released in 1992 and won her the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1993, as well as an MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video.
The music video for the song was filmed in black-and-white. It presents a fanciful recreation of the premiere of Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot in Paris, 1953. Here, she is depicted singing backstage while the actors perform. The director, Mark Romanek, says the song's lyrics of desperation and waiting fit well with the themes of Beckett's play. Much to Lang's surprise, the video won Best Female Video at the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards. Enjoy!

via Napalm Records. It is a concept album that continues the story introduced in
their previous studio effort, "Apex". It is their first album released after the
departure of bassist Nikko Whitworth and, since he's yet to be officially
replaced, it also marks their first album recorded as a quartet.
The band originally planned to release "Apex" and "Abyss" as a double album, but
they were running out of time and decided to release "Apex" alone in 2017.
During the first half of 2019, they disconnected from everything related to
"Apex" and searched for new influences. By the other half, they wrote the rest
of the songs, which would eventually form "Abyss", and the album was recorded in
January 2020 in Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark. In an interview, vocalist
Brittney Slayes expressed relief that they were able to do the recordings before
the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

So for today I thought that we put some focus on just the number 13, not the unlucky and pick a tune by the Canadian post-rock group SILVER MT. ZION, a band that which formed in 1999, originating from Montreal, Quebec. Variations of the name used on the band's releases include A SILVER MT. ZION, THEE SILVER MT. ZION MEMORIAL ORCHESTRA, THE SILVER MT. ZION MEMORIAL ORCHESTRA & TRA-LA-LA BAND, THE SILVER MT. ZION MEMORIAL ORCHESTRA AND TRA-LA-LA BAND WITH CHORI and THEE SILVER MOUNTAIN REVERIES); the group use the shorthand SMZ and their name is most often simplified to SILVER MT. ZION. The group has undergone almost yearly personnel changes, evolving by stages from a mostly instrumental trio at the time of their first recordings into an eight-piece group, and then in 2008 into a strongly vocal quintet.
SILVER MT. ZIONs music has been described as post-rock, though singer and guitarist Efrim Menuck identifies with the punk rock ethos and aesthetic. The band has released seven studio albums and three EPs, publishing them through the record label Constellation.
Today's tune "13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round The Side Of Your Bed" is taken from the debut album "He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms…". The album was recorded by guitarist Efrim Menuck and bassist Thierry Amar at the Hotel2Tango in 1999, mostly during breaks while touring with GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR. It was published by the Montreal-based record label Constellation on March 27, 2000.
The album was born out of a desire by Efrim Menuck to record something for his dog Wanda, who died of cancer while GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR were on tour. Menuck described the recording of the album as a "Jewish experience", due to his immersion within a small, friend-based Jewish community in Montreal. Indeed, Menuck also stated that, as a result of the community, the album title and songs have a sense of Judaism, although the band tried to not make it conspicuous. There is some Jewish imagery in the lyrics to the track "Movie (Never Made)", but their exact meaning remains cryptic.
The album was initially to be named "He Has Left Us Alone", but it was decided that this was too weak, and didn't convey the proper mood. Menuck professed that he was confused with the idea that songs or album titles should only be a few words in length and be perfectly clear. Instead, Menuck believes that things of that nature can be described with many words, giving sensibility and a "frame" to the work.
On the original vinyl release, the songs were arranged into two tracks; on CD releases, the songs were indexed into four parts each, resulting in eight tracks. The sleeve artwork lists inaccurate track times, all rounded to even minutes.
The track "13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round The Side Of Your Bed" was featured in Harmony Korine's movie "Mister Lonely". It also features in Series 3 episode 10 of Top Boy when Sully supposedly shoots Dris on top of a London Building.

The Canadian quartet, LOVIATAR, returns embracing the notion of the difficult second album and diving headfirst into a whirlpool of oppressive imagery and existential dread to present their sophomore album "Lightless".
With a heavy dose of post-metal and some gothic touches for good measure, Loviatar have created a sound that is distinctively theirs.
LOVIATAR (pronounced low-vye-ah-tar) whose sound borrows equally from the hazy gloom of MY BLOODY VALENTINE, the cinematic psychedelic landscapes of WOVENHAND and the crushing riffs of ISIS. Clearly sung vocals, equal parts somber and soaring, set them apart from others in the genre.
Thunderous elements of doom and post-metal contrast with hypnotic moments of atmospheric introspection. Their art is inspired by the mysteries of ancient mythology: the band takes its name from an ancient Scandinavian death goddess and frequently evokes themes of epic fantasy in their imagery and lyrics.
Formed in 2010, LOVIATAR has independently released a series of singles and EPs, and have been tapped to support such acts as RED FANG, SKELETONWITCH and BLOOD CEREMONY.

"Take This Waltz" is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, originally released as part of the 1986 Federico García Lorca tribute album "Poets in New York" and as a single.
The song was later included in Cohen's 1988 studio album "I'm Your Man", in a slightly re-arranged version (with the addition of violin and Jennifer Warnes's duet vocals, both absent from the 1986 version).
The song's lyrics are a loose translation, into English, of the poem "Pequeño vals vienés" (Little Viennese Waltz) by the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca (one of Cohen's favorite poets). The poem was first published in Lorca's seminal book Poeta en Nueva York.

Actor/singer Sven Wollter recorded a version of the song with lyrics translated into Swedish on his 1989 album "Nån Sorts Man". The title of the song is "Tag Min Vals" ("Take My Waltz").

Enrique Morente and Lagartija Nick covered the song in 1996 with Cohen's music and Lorca's original verse on the album "Omega". Two years later, Spanish singer Ana Belén covered the song in Spanish ("Pequeño Val Vienés") for her album "Lorquiana".
In 2014, Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Raül Fernandez Miró covered the song in Spanish for their Album "Granada". The Spanish version is also included in the 2015 film "La Novia" (The Bride), based on Lorca's tragedy Blood Wedding.
The film "Take This Waltz" directed by Sarah Polley takes its name from the song which was also featured prominently in the movie.

"Forged In Fire" is the third studio album by the Canadian heavy metal band ANVIL, formed 1978 in Toronto, Ontario. The band now consists of Steve "Lips" Kudlow (vocals, guitar), Robb Reiner (drums), and Chris Robertson (bass). As of early 2020, the band has released eighteen studio albums and had been cited as having influenced many notable heavy metal groups, including MEGADETH, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, and METALLICA. The band's 18th album, "Legal At Last", was released on February 14, 2020
The title tune from "Forged In Fire" is about an anvil, it's a very literal piece of heavy metal, and as seen in many old cartoons, an archetype for a very heavy, dangerous and unwieldy object. This song expands on the anvil metaphor, describing the blacksmith's work in vivid detail ("Rivulets of sweat steam," "Splashes in magenta") as a way to explain the sound. The band proudly declares that they are "forming metal."
The tune also drew musical inspiration from the Robin Trower song "Bridge Of Sighs" and also from the Max Webster song "Battle Scar," which features members of RUSH.
In an interview with ANVIL, the lead singer Lips, he explained, "I found a riff in that world and I went with it. That's what I found it to be similar to, those two songs, but maybe they're in there because they're in me, and you are what you eat or what you consume."

New week and it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week"
Little over a month ago, we posted the first single "Regret" by the Calgary-based NUMENOREAN a tune taken from the new album "Adore". A superb single that has been played a lot, when the new album finally arrived in the mail it has gotten many hours of play time. An album that took three years to make and the album is a towering work of lustrous metallic art. Its deeply-nuanced tracks weave ferocity and beauty into sweeping pieces that are as haunting as they are cathartic. NUMENOREAN place themselves at the fore of the genre’s evolution with this profoundly moving work of modern, post-black metal brilliance.

"Adore" is a ten pieces album that spins on for 43 minutes, a great length for an album and it totally has blown me away with their way of creation and manage their influences in the best possible way and serve me a listener with such a captivating beast, that is impressed. It is not often you get completely knocked down when listening to a brand new record nowadays. "Adore" is a very heavy and emotional record, melodic, moody and harsh, delightful groovy death riffs and drumming. Some musical references could be the post-black band DEAFHEAVEN and the melodic metal band GOJIRA that flows in the veins and that is the overall feeling i get when I let it loose on the turntable, an excellent flow. The sadness is mixed with angry to fury and big misery, something that goes like a loop thru the whole album. Where the tune "Portrait Of Pieces", the first real song after the intro gentle intrumental "Nocebo" is a good example of the mood. There are a lot of variety between the tunes that makes this album a joy to listen to. Tunes like the title track "Adore" and "Coma" are a good example of variety. Where the first one is really complex in its layout, beefy riffing and clean vocals the other one is more emotional and touches deeply into the soul. Tunes like "Regret" have a catchy and memorable chorus with a great flow and groove where GOJIRA comes into mind or "Horizon" that blistered of with a real black metal sound, furious and real anger, halfway true it slows down and shows another face. The execution that this album shines is marvelous and I am sure that this album will reach high when the year is to be summed up.
Sum: NUMENOREAN deliver a mesmerizing album that you should not miss.
Toronto’s BLOOD CEREMONY is one of the most established names in the underground scene and forerunners of the so-called occult rock movement. After four very successful studio albums, they gift us with this fresh material release, a 7" single featuring brand new recordings.
The A-side, "Lolly Willows", is a surefire instant classic in the BLOOD CEREMONY canon, groovy flute and catchy and well-played melody with cool riffing, whilst the all-important B-side is a fantastic cover a lesser known gem by THE WHO, titled "Heaven & Hell".
This single is a promising teaser of what is about to come on their upcoming album.
"Roller" is a hard rock song written by Myles Goodwyn and recorded by Canadian rock band APRIL WINE for their 1978 studio album "First Glance". The song peaked at number 24 on the RPM 100 Singles chart in Canada and number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, becoming their first American hit since 1972.
The song was instantly popular in North America, and helped APRIL WINE regain international popular, as it was their first hit song outside of Canada since 1972's "You Could Have Been a Lady", after a decade of success limited to Canada. "Roller" has remained a live staple and one of the band's most popular songs, and has become a staple of classic rock radio in Canada and the United States.
The term "roller" in the song is referring to a "high-roller" woman, an upper-class traveler who is wealthy, and the narrator talks about leaving for Los Angeles to meet up with her.
"Roller" also talks about the narrator's unrequited love for this unnamed woman, in an upbeat, hard rock form similar to many other APRIL WINE songs.
APRIL WINE is a Canadian rock band formed in 1969 and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The band enjoyed international success in the 1970s and 1980s, releasing more than 20 albums since 1971.
APRIL WINE continues to tour across Canada annually and also plays festivals in Europe and in the United States, with the group now consisting of Goodwyn, Greenway, Lanthier, and drummer Roy "Nip" Nichol.
Former bassist Steve Lang died on February 4, 2017 at age 67 after suffering from Parkinson's disease.
APRIL WINE has never been awarded a Juno despite 11 nominations. Myles Goodwyn was awarded the ECMA (East Coast Music Awards) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. APRIL WINE was also inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and awarded with the CMW Lifetime Achievement Award on March 13, 2009. In 2008 they were inducted into the East Coast Music Hall of Fame. On April 18, 2010, they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Bass interlace and mangle sounds in a sonic homage to both the innate warmth of human magnetism and the cold realities of corrupted love—jealousy, obsession, perversion, addiction. That is what describes the American/Canadian post-metal band SUMAC.
The band was formed in 2014. It features the Vancouver, British Columbia-based Nick Yacyshyn (BAPTISTS), Brooklyn, NYC-based Brian Cook (RUSSIAN CIRCLES, ex-THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES, ex-BOTCH) and Vashon, Washington-based Aaron Turner (MAMIFFER, OLD MAN GLOOM, ex-ISIS). Today's tune "The Task" gives us a meticulous bombardment of heavy riffage and dexterous drumming. The tune is taken from the third studio album "Love In Shadow". It was released on September 21, 2018 through Thrill Jockey. Like the band's experimental collaboration with Keiji Haino earlier in 2018, much of the album was recorded improvisationally.

"Let It Ride" is a 1974 single by BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE, written by Randy Bachman and Fred Turner, with the latter providing lead vocals. It was first recorded for the 1973 album "Bachman–Turner Overdrive II".
The tune was inspired by a traffic jam. The band was in their tour bus, on a highway, and were boxed in by a couple of trucks. When the bus and the trucks reached a rest area, the musicians confronted the truck drivers, who responded by saying the band should take it easy and just let it ride.
The song was covered by Canadian rock band BIG SUGAR on their 1998 album, Heated. It was also covered by Canadian country music group FARMERS DAUGHTER on their 1998 album "This Is the Life". Their version was released as a single in 1999 and peaked at #30 on the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada.
In 2015, Canadian heavy metal band KOBRA AND THE LOTUS covered the song on their first EP Words of the Prophets.
BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE is a Canadian rock group from Winnipeg, Manitoba, that had a series of hit albums and singles in the 1970s, selling over 7 million albums in that decade alone. Their 1970s catalogue included five Top 40 albums and six US Top 40 singles (eleven in Canada). The band has sold nearly 30 million albums worldwide, and has fans affectionately known as "gearheads" (derived from the band's gear-shaped logo). Many of their songs, including "Let It Ride," "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet," "Takin' Care of Business," "Hey You" and "Roll on Down the Highway," still receive play on classic-rock stations.

"The Pusher" is a rock song written by Hoyt Axton, made popular by the 1969 movie Easy Rider which used STEPPENWOLFs version to accompany the opening scenes showing drug trafficking.
The lyrics of the song distinguish between a dealer in drugs such as marijuana—who "will sell you lots of sweet dreams"—and a pusher of hard drugs such as heroin—a "monster" who doesn't care "if you live or if you die"
The song was made popular when rock band STEPPENWOLF released the song on their 1968 album "Steppenwolf".
Organist Goldy McJohn, who recorded the original STEPPENWOLF version, said the version that appears on Early STEPPENWOLF performed by "Sparrow" (pre-STEPPENWOLF moniker) in 1967 at the Matrix came about when singer John Kay and Jerry Edmonton were late for a performance:
Nick and Mars and me started that long version of "the Pusher". John and Jerry's flight was late one night at the Avalon Ballroom, so we started and then we perfected it at the "Arc" in Sausalito on New Year's Eve in 1966.
STEPPENWOLF is a Canadian-American rock band, prominent from 1968 to 1972. The group was formed in late 1967 in Los Angeles by lead singer John Kay, keyboardist Goldy McJohn, and drummer Jerry Edmonton (all formerly in Jack London & the Sparrows from Oshawa, Ontario). Guitarist Michael Monarch and bass guitarist Rushton Moreve were recruited by notices placed in Los Angeles-area record and musical instrument stores.
