Black Space Riders - Give Gravitation To The People

Black Space Riders is a band that I found at Spader Ess web page, a guy who very often finds some interesting music to share.

In the fading last winter nights of 2008 JE, SLI, SAQ and CRIP entered a musty and mouldy basement for the first time together: The plan was simple: Jamming ... loud and heavy, rediscovering that nearly lost feeling of getting impassioned by a pushing, pulling, droning and moving wall of self-created sound. It worked!

In 2010 the self-titled debut-album was released. "Black Space Riders" triggered enthusiastic reviews around the globe and the band played a run of sweaty shows in Europe.

In 2012 the band released it´s second album "Light is the new black". It showed even more influences and variety than the debut and brought the band many new followers around the globe.

The following shows in 2012/13 featured a new bandmember: SEB, who had contributed additional background-vocals to "Light is the new black" was presented as a second lead-vocalist.

Their latest album "D:REI" are Black Space Riders even more colorful, louder, softer, harder, atmospheric, gripping, and above all exalted!

Black Space Riders are:

JE (VOX, Guitars)
SLI (Guitars, bgvox)
SAQ (Bass, bgvox)
CRIP (Drums, bgvox)
SEB (VOX, movements, space)

Discography:

2010: s/t
2012: Light is the new black
2014: D:REI

Todays tune "Give Gravitation To The People" is taken from Black Space Riders 3:rd and latest album D:REI, released 2014

The Afghan Whigs - Algiers

Do to the Beast, the first new album from The Afghan Whigs in 16 years, will be released worldwide via Sub Pop Records on April 14th in Europe and April 15th in North America. The album features the lead single "Algiers."

The Afghan Whigs will perform at the annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA on Friday April 11th & Friday April 18th. On April 10th the band will headline an official Pre-Coachella show in Pioneertown, CA at Pappy & Harriet's with Brody Dalle as special guest.

The band will also perform a small number of headline shows in April and May in North America in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Brooklyn, Boston and Baltimore. There will be a special fan pre-sale beginning February 18th, with tickets available to the general public later in the week.

The Afghan Whigs are an American rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio, originally active from 1986 to 2001, who have since reformed. The group – with core members Greg Dulli (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick McCollum (lead guitar), John Curley (bass), and Steve Earle on drums – rose up around the grunge movement, evolving from a garage punk band in the vein of the Replacements, Dinosaur Jr., and Mudhoney to incorporate more soul influences into their sound and image. After releasing their first album independently in 1988, the band signed to the Seattle-based label Sub Pop, before releasing their major-label debut and fourth album, Gentlemen, in 1993. Pitchfork described them as "one of the few alt-bands to flourish on a major label" in the 1990s.

Dulli frequently claimed in interviews that the Afghan Whigs would never get back together following their dissolution in 2001 but the group announced in 2012 that they would reunite for a series of major concerts.

Behemoth - Chant For Ezkaton 2000 e.v

The year is 2014, the month is February and the most extreme, blackest and fearful of tours settles over Europe.

Cradle Of Filth and Behemoth embarks on co-headline tour and nineteen dates are booked over that continent which one of them is at Tyrol in Stockholm on February 25 (Yesterday).

Behemoth may have been a classic black metal band originally, but it was not enough for the brutal multi talented Negal and mixed into death metal, progressive and experimental elements which led to the multi-faceted beast Zos Kia Cultus (2002). After having conquered and defeated all of Evangelion (2009), it was leukemia as the front man had to master and from the fire's ashes rose the man who wears the "holy scripture" in pieces and created the album The Satanist (2014) that you according to Nergal's statement below would expect while the tour starts.

The support bands on the tour is the Swedish In Solitude, Chilean / American Inquisition and Norwegian Svarttjern.

A quick summary of the evening was that behemoth actually owned the place. What was most baffling that not Behemoth got to be the last slot this evening, got told that they ran every other gig as headliner and the Stockholm show it was the Cradle Of Filths turn, which you could see as soon as Behemoths show was over, 2/3 of the audience went home.

Norwegian Svarttjern was a fairly pleasant surprise, okey in my ears, pretty good swing in the songs. Chilean / American Inquisition delivered really good, nice to get the chance to see them live. Clearly exceeded expectations. Swedish In Solitude delivered an okay show, a little shaky at first, but came back at the end, the tune Sister was really powerful live. Cradle Of Filth as a final act with only a couple hundred people in the audience probably was not as they had expected, I thought it was pretty boring actually.

Live rates:

Svarttjern 3/5
Inquisition 4/5
In Solitude 3/5
Behemoth 5/5
Cradle Of Filth 2/5

There are some photos at my Instagram, check it up here!

Behemoth is a Polish extreme metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground.

Truckfighters - Prophet

Monday and it's time to proudly introduce this week's "Record Of The Week". From Sweden and one of the most interesting "stoner" bands available on this round fuzzy earth. This week's album is called "Universe" with Truckfighters.

The band have been playing since early 2000, formed in Örebro, Sweden. Their sound has been described as classic desert rock, similar to bands like Dozer, Fu Manchu, and Kyuss.

“Universe” is a fuzzed out stoner metal bonanza, an album that is filled with great soaring and emotive melodies, chunky and fuzzy riffs that really hooks you, so that you in the end will reach for the remote to increase the volume even more. The album contains 7 songs, which doesn't seem to be a lot, but it clocks in around 45 minutes, the songs have very varying lengths, from under 2 minutes to almost 14 minutes. But with a very good mix between longer tunes and shorter tunes. Truckfigherts "Universe" is a very a cool stoner record, which shows us, that the desert rock attitude also works outside the desert.

And yes, this record is released on Vinyl.

Todays tune "Prophet" is more straightforward rock tune with loads of dynamic, with a little indie/grunge touch.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Lucky Man

Sunday, time for a classic. "Lucky Man" is a song by the English progressive rock supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer, from the group's 1970 self-titled debut album. Written by Greg Lake when he was 12 years old and recorded by the trio using improvised arrangements, the song contains one of rock music's earliest instances of a Moog synthesizer solo. "Lucky Man" was released as a single in 1970 and reached the top 20 in the Netherlands. The song also charted in the United States and Canada. The single was re-released in 1973 and charted again in the U.S. and Canada.

The album was intended not as an effort by a unified band, but as a general collaborative recording session, and as such, some of the tracks are essentially solo pieces.

The cover art painting is by the British artist Nic Dartnell. Although it has been said to be originally intended for the American group Spirit, and that the bald-headed man on the left of the cover is Spirit's drummer, Ed Cassidy, the artist denied this in an interview with Mike Goldstein of RockPoP: "I'd like to take a moment and dispel a rumor that, according to Wikipedia, the image is somehow linked to the LA band Spirit. The fact is that, at the time I painted the ELP "Bird", I also painted a portrait of Spirit which I sent to them in LA. A very similar bird was featured in the corner of that painting. I got a message from Spirit to say that if they had received their painting in time they would have put it on the back of 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. I became friendly with Randy California over the years and I took the photograph that is on his 1982 12" EP All Along the Watchtower. The bald image in "Bird" has no connection to Ed Cassidy of Spirit and doesn’t look anything like him. Ed still has the Spirit portrait – so I’m told. The cover depicts a fluttering white bird with a human ear in the bottom left corner; the bird's left wing outlines the back of the male head to which the ear is attached, the other half of which is on the back of the album, and the right wing outlines a female head."

When asked in an interview if he felt "lucky" to have written the song, Lake responded:

I did write “Lucky Man” when I was 12. My mum bought me a guitar and I was very lucky in that sense, the answer was yes instead of no. There was the first bit of luck because had the answer been no, my life would have probably been totally different. I got the guitar and I learned the first four chords that were D, G, A Minor and E Minor and with those chords I wrote “Lucky Man”. I truly cannot remember everything about writing it other than I think it struck me as being a sort of minstrel type of event with these chords, G, D, E Minor and A Minor, gave me this sort of minstrel feeling. “Lucky Man” has kind of an almost medieval element tone to it. It is like a medieval folk song in a way. That was the essence of the idea. I wrote the song in its entirety and I finished it and I remembered it. As far as its significance regarding me and how lucky I was, I suppose it does really. You cannot disassociate the tune, the song has been very lucky for me. It came about because of a piece of good fortune, which was my mother giving me the guitar and it has been lucky for me ever since. I would say if I was going to be honest, I have been very lucky in life. I certainly have been.

Robert Pehrsson's Humbucker - Wasted Time

Robert Pehrsson is a Swedish guitarist, singer & song writer. He has worked for such diverse bands such as Runemagick, Thunder Express, Death Breath, Dundertåget, Imperial State Electric, Slingblade and also Dagger. Robert Pehrsson started his career as a guitarist/vocalist around 88-89, then concentrating mainly on playing extreme music like thrash and early death metal, but soon branched out in different musical genres but mainly focusing on rock music.

Pehrsson has now completed his first (solo) album for High Roller Records containing songs such as the guitar-driven “Haunt My Mind”, “Who Else Is On Your Mind” or the soft rockin' “Can't Change”.

The self-titled album combines yearning Thin Lizzy-esque guitar harmonies with tight classic rock hooks. Heartfelt and honest, it hits with confessional hymns to a lost age of guitar-driven rock.

Recorded at Gutterview Recorders, the nine songs feature guest spots by well-known musicians such as Nicke Andersson, Dolf De Borst and Tomas Eriksson from Imperial State Electric, Peter Stjärnvind (Nifelheim, Black Trip), Joseph Tholl (Enforcer, Black Trip), Robert Eriksson (ex The Hellacopters), Olle Dahlstedt (Entombed), Johan Bäckman (Necrocourse) and Johannes Borgström.

Todays tune "Wasted Time" is the second single from the self titled solo album "Robert Pehrsson's Humbucker" by Robert Pehrsson.

Death Angel - Left For Dead

California thrashers Death Angel have released a new video taken from the latest and seventh studio album "The Dream Calls for Blood".

Death Angel initially active from 1982 to 1991 and again since 2001. Death Angel has released seven studio albums, two demo tapes, one box set and two live albums.

Two independent releases, The Ultra-Violence (1987) and Frolic Through the Park (1988), attracted the attention of Geffen Records, which signed the quintet in 1989 and released their next album, Act III, one year later. While Death Angel was touring in support of Act III, drummer Andy Galeon was injured in a tour bus accident and needed more than a year to fully recover. This resulted in the band's break up in 1991. However, Death Angel reformed in 2001 (without original guitarist Gus Pepa) at the Thrash of the Titans benefit concert for Testament singer Chuck Billy. The band continues to record and perform today.

Mike Oldfield - Sailing

The upcoming 25th album "Man on the Rocks" with Mike Oldfield was produced by Stephen Lipson together with Oldfield. The album features bassist Leland Sklar, drummer John Robinson, keyboardist Matt Rollings, guitarist Michael Thompson and singer Luke Spiller together with Oldfield himself on guitar. The backing tracks were recorded during June 2013 in Studio D of Village Studios, Los Angeles with producer Steve Lipson; Oldfield participated in these sessions via Skype. Oldfield has also recorded part of the album in his home studio in the Bahamas.

The working title for the album had been Rock. The piece "Irene" is inspired by Hurricane Irene which hit the Bahamas in 2011. The final track is a cover of William McDowell's gospel piece "I Give Myself Away". Luke Spiller is the singer of another of Virgin EMI's British artists, The Struts.

The album marks a return of Oldfield to a Virgin branded label since leaving Virgin Records in the 1990s, through the merger of Mercury Records UK and Virgin Records after Universal Music's purchase of EMI.

Man on the Rocks is due to be released on 3 March 2014, after initially being announced that it would have been released on 27 January. The album is to be released on single CD, double CD, coloured double vinyl, digital download and a box set.

The two CD Deluxe Edition contains the album and a second instrumental disc. In the UK the boxed set will be available exclusively through mikeoldfieldofficial.com - this includes the content from the Deluxe Edition as well as Oldfield's demos of the songs and 4 alternate mixes of songs. The boxed set will also include a 16-page CD size booklet, four art cards and a certificate of authenticity.

Michael Gordon "Mike" Oldfield (born 15 May 1953) is an English musician and composer whose work blends progressive rock with world, folk, classical, electronic, ambient, New Age and, more recently, dance music. It is often elaborate and complex in nature. He is best known for his 1973 album Tubular Bells – which launched Virgin Records and became a hit after its opening was used as the theme for the film The Exorcist – and for his 1983 hit single "Moonlight Shadow". He is also known for his hit rendition of the Christmas piece "In Dulci Jubilo".

Todays tune "Sailing" is the first single taken from the upcoming twenty-fifth studio album "Man On The Rocks", due to be released on 3 March 2014. "Sailing" was a record of the week on BBC Radio 2 during the first week of February. The music video for "Sailing" was released on YouTube on 8 February. The video features Oldfield and Spiller in The Bahamas on a beach, a boat and in Oldfield's studio there.
