The Dutch psychedelic Southern blues rockers DEWOLFF returned earlier this year with a new album "Wolffpack".
I'm sorry to say, but this is another record that had to stand and wait kindly in the album box with newcomers, with a constant flood of new records, it's easy to miss some. I do not know why this one, I guess I have to blame temporary confusion, but now it's here, better late than never.
The kaleidoscopic warriors were not long into their 2019 "Tascam Tapes" European Tour when the Covid19 pandemic broke and they, like so many others, had to turn back and head home. However, DEWOLFF is not a band to sit still. When it came to studio album number nine, they had no intention of just waiting for things to blow over.
DEWOLFF is a very creative bunch of guys that over the past three years they have released "Thrust" (2018), "Live & Outta Sight II" (2019) and "Tascam Tapes" (2020) – and despite the pandemic cutting short their touring last year the trio set about creating "Wolffpack", an antidote to the shoestring Tascam Tapes.
"Wolffpack" have been been created in their studio bunker in the Medieval town of Utrecht, The Netherlands. The album may feel a bit scattered to new listeners, but with a wide range of their previous creations where all styles are used again, a bit like the raisins from their own cake are picked. So it will be a bit difficult to decide what kind of genre we really get served here. Anyhow, this is a great spin where the brothers Pablo and Luka van de Poel and Robin Piso have created another majestic record. Where they are experimenting with soundscapes, fuzzy riffing, swamp-rock with horse shoe vibes, infectionasied melodies that makes you as a listner a happy human beening.
The album opens up with a soulful funk rocker of "Yes You Do", a tune that is very catchy. Followed in the same vein in "Treasure City Moonchild", where the third song "Do Me" is a power ballad, a really beautiful one. "Sweet Loretta" is a bluesy one and has a pretty interesting story about "Loretta, the protagonist's childhood sweetheart. She has a rich dad, but he's really conservative, and so she can only inherit his money if she marries a man. But she's lesbian. So, the protagonist, who's also out for this old guy's money, suggests they play pretend and marry so they can split the money." "Half Of Your Love" is another funky, light disco one. Great vibe that get's your legs move. "Lady J" has some cool lyrics that are based on the idea that Lady Justice seems to have a scale that dosen't measure the "weight" of your crime but the tone of your skin. The tune have a great 70s groove. "Roll Up The Rise" is a car driving tune, think Cadillac. The blusey fuzzed-up "Bona Fide" is a thrill and "R U My Saviour" continues but with added horns to spice it up a bit. The album closes up with the folk bluesih forlorn "Hope Train", inspired by Colson Whitehead’s brilliant, Pulitzer winning novel. DEWOLFF really experimenting with hazy soundscapes, loose fizzy riffs, nice and well thought lyrics and marvelous groovy melodies to keep the intrest high. Highly Recomended! "Smoke From The Chimney" is an album by Tony Joe White. It's a posthumous new album and follows White’s previous album Bad Mouthin’, which was released just a few weeks before his October 24th, 2018, death.
"Smoke From The Chimney" was released via Easy Eye Sound on May 7th. It was produced by Dan Auerbach and was taken from White’s home demos and built out by Auerbach and his favorite session players.
“No one else could do it like TJ does…when is the last song you heard name check Red Man and Gatorade?” Auerbach says of the recording.
“My dad loved to fish. It was his favorite hobby,” White’s son Jody adds. “He would travel many miles to find the best fishing holes, or to explore places he heard about where large fish had been caught. Bubba Jones is a hybrid: a fictional character that Tony Joe made up in his head, combined with his inner self who had a burning desire to catch the world record largemouth bass.”
The accompanying video for “Bubba Jones” ties together some stunning footage of the swamps from White’s native Louisiana with long-lost footage of the artist performing on Nashville Now in the 1980s. See the video below.

Tony Joe White (July 23, 1943 – October 24, 2018), nicknamed the Swamp Fox, was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for his 1969 hit "Polk Salad Annie" and for "Rainy Night in Georgia", which he wrote but which was first made popular by Brook Benton in 1970. He also wrote "Steamy Windows" and "Undercover Agent for the Blues", both hits for Tina Turner in 1989; those two songs came by way of Turner's producer at the time, Mark Knopfler, who was a friend of White. "Polk Salad Annie" was also recorded by Joe Dassin, Elvis Presley, and Tom Jones.

The Canadian blues rock duo THE BLUE STONES has resently released thier new album "Hidden Gems".
The band has released multiple songs as singles leading into their highly anticipated sophomore album release, "Hidden Gems", in Mars, 2021. The first of those is "Shakin’ Off The Rust", see it below, a tune, as Jafar explains, that very much serves as a mission statement for their renewed sense of confidence and newfound identity.
Although THE BLUE STONES were always more than a blues-rock duo, that’s especially true now on "Hidden Gems". The album was co-written and produced by Mutemath frontman Paul Meany. "Echoes From A Mass" is the new album with the Swedish heavy rock band GREENLEAF, like clockwork, these Swedes spread their concentrated sludgy energy to disciples of the genre by releasing "Echoes From A Mass", the successor to their 2018 epic, "Hear The Rivers".
Ten rocking pieces with a play time of fortysix minutes gives you as a listner a bombastic grooving rock album with alot of excitement that proves they dare to think outside the box and deliver a heavy roller comprised of Sebastian Olsson’s rumbling drumming performance, fuzzy guitars, Fröhlich’s haunting bass lines, Hällagård’s powerful yet ghoulish vocals and undeniable, heavy stoner, southern desert and blues vibes. "Echoes From A Mass" was recorded at Studio Gröndahl in October 2020 by former band member Karl Daniel Lidén, who also mixed and mastered the record at Tri-Lamb Studios. "Needle In My Eye" opens up with Hans Fröhlich heavy bass licks and Sebastian Olssons swinging drums that gives the tune a real uplift. Blistering guitar riffs and a catchy chours in "Love Undone" will keep you moving. In the beautiful "Bury Me My Son" we get served a bluesy tune with deep and profound lyrics. Light progressive guitar picking begins "A Hand Of Might" which then develops into a bombastic catchy monster. The catchyness continues in "March On Higher Grounds", a tune that has a dusty desert vibe. In "Hang On" the dusty desert vibe has got a bit more smouldering and bluesy, with a risning theme and a chours ceremonially chants sounds like a choir in the background, really cool piece. The album closes big with "What Have We Become", southern rock mixed with country and distored guitar picking and half way true slow and rumbling drumming entres the soundscape and Arvid Hällagård’s powerful vocals repret the lyrics over and over until he falls into a chant. A big, powerful and diffrent piece from the band that ends up really good. The album "Echoes From A Mass" solid album with plenty of psychedelic, blues infused stoner rock atmosphere as it's best and shows that they still stand on fast ground and with a creatived mind can take the next step in their development, well done guys!

Monday, new week and it's time for "Record Of The Week".
Legendary rockers AC/DC is back with the band’s 17th studio album "Power Up". Released November 13th, 2020. The album title "Power Up" does not appear on the front cover, except as "PWR/UP" (stylised as "PWRϟUP") on the left and right amps.
AC/DC came roaring back after a period of tragedy and uncertainty. "Power Up" marks the return of vocalist Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams, all of whom left AC/DC before, during, or after the supporting tour for their previous album "Rock Or Bust" (2014). This is also the band's first album since the death of co-founder and rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young in 2017 and it serves as a tribute to him, according to his brother Angus. As far as can read about this is looks like all the tunes on "Power Up" were co-written by Malcolm and Angus Young.
"Power Up" contains 12 tunes with a play time of 41 mins, it sounds excatlly as AC/DC, so you will not get disapointed at all.
The tunes are very groovy, loud, dirty with excellent and typical Angus riffs. From the opening rocker "Realize" where the Australian groove rock seeps out of the speakers just as it always has, clever, but simple and very typical AC/DC riffs, choruses with big harmonies. The first and the lead single "Shot In The Dark" is a great pick as single that works for every radio station or in a car stereo during weekends. Brian Johnson’s snotty sandpaper vocals sounds better than ever. Tune like "Demon Fire", "Systems Down", "Money Shot" and "Code Red" are excellent riff partys. Groovy and hook heavy tunes like "Kick You When You’re Down" and "Witch’s Spell" are really fun tune to dig to. The these old fellows still sound as fresh as they do is a wonder. That they mange to keep up the craftmanship with an over all excellent quality is magical. Well done guys.

From Vicenza, Italy comes Elli de Mon, a onewomanband that play guitars, bass drum, snare drum, rattles, saturated sounds and Indian psychedelia. Drawing heavily on the shamanic tradition of distant enchanters Bessie Smith, Fred McDowell and Son House, Elli fights her demons with the instrument most congenial to her: music. A new blues, made of wild slides and contaminated by punk influences (Elli also played in Almandino Quite Deluxe), and by Indian music, Elli's great love.
She released her debut 7", "Leave This Town" in 2013. Followed by an self titled album 2014 and a signing with CORPOC and Otis Recordings. Since then she have been a busy, she has been playing everywhere, sharing the stage with artists such as The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, AFTERHOURS, REVEREND BEATMAN, THE MONSTERS, Molly Gene onewoamanband, Big John Bates, Chuck Ragan, Larry and His Flask, Cedric Burnside, Bror Gunnar Jansson, Carmen Consoli along with a numerous festivals. In 2015 it was time to release album "II" on Pitshark Records. In 2016 the split record "VS" with Diego Deadman Potron was released.
In 2017 came the mini album "Blues tapes: the indian sessions". "Songs Of Mercy And Desire" was released in 2018. And now in 2020 got the split EP with Daily Thompson "Elli De Mon VS Daily Thompson" where we find today's tune "Vampire Blues". "Holy Moly!" is the return of the Swedish rockers BLUES PILLS.
Since 2011, guitarist Zack Anderson and vocalist Elin Larsson have navigated this psychedelic infused blues band. With four acclaimed full-length albums, a hand full singles, a few EPs, and a huge amount of live shows and have stepped forward and become visible to the international stage.
"Holy Moly!" is created in Närke, Sweden, released August 21, 2020 (Nuclear Blast Records), and contains 11 solid tunes with a pleasant playing time of 41 mins. "Holy Moly!" have a wonderful mix of rockers. All from the album opener and the ladies’ anthem "Proud Woman", a big stomper that shows the skills of the band. A big bunch of rockers with a big attitude like "Kiss My Past Goodbye", the groovy and sharp "Low Road", the raw and fuzzy "Rhythm In The Blood" and "Dreaming My Life Away" is pure and well crafted classic hard rockers. The Aretha Franklin blues-rocker "Bye Bye Birdy" is raw, dirty, and intense that it makes it impossible to not wave your head and let your hair follow the rhythm. There are a few soulful moments with some laidback blues rockers, like the vocally impressive "Dust", the love song "California", the loveful "Wish I’d Known", "Longest Lasting Friend" and the ballad "Song From a Mourning Dove" where Elin's voice just shines like a diamond. I'm very impressed that they once again made an amazing album that is so groovy and well made. Highly recommended!
Sum: Holy Moly!, are no less than formidable psychedelic blues-rock.

The Cannock blues-rock trio WOLF JAW (formally THE BAD FLOWERS) are thrilled to announce that they have signed a record deal with Listenable Records. Under their new label, WOLF JAW will release their second album "The Heart Won't Listen" on the 25th of this month to follow-up to their critically-acclaimed 2018 debut album "Starting Gun".
WOLF JAW formed from the depths of the Black Country in 2014 comprised of lead vocalist and guitarist, Tom Leighton, whose signature riffs, fuzz emotive guitar, and pure vocals have a distinctive sound unlike anybody else. Monday, a new week, time for the "Record Of The Week".
"Bury The Hatchet" is the second full-length album by the Auburn, California’s SHOTGUN SAWYER.
The album was released on April 19th by Ripple Music.
SHOTGUN SAWYER is a raw, blues-infused rock n' roll band that consists of the bassist Brett "The Butcher" Sanders, guitarist/vocalist Dylan Jarman, and drummer David Lee. They teamed up in January of 2015 with the intent to revive and reimagine the musical styles of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, treading similar ground to LED ZEPPELIN, ZZ TOP, and BLACK SABBATH.
The result is a thundering, passionate, toe-tapping, knee-slapping and unique mixture of tasty bass grooves, crunchy riffs, searing guitar solos, and powerful vocals, all underpinned by virtuosic drumming. This is rock n' roll the way it was meant to be played.
"Bury The Hatchet" is a 9 track bluesy album with a big spectrum from the opening uptempo "Aint Trying To Go Down Slow" that has a groove that makes it hard to sit still in the boat, follows up with another groovy high octane rocker "(Let Me) Take You Home", the tune slows down a bit and gives us a lovely bluesy distorted solo. "Backwoods Bear" is an old school acoustic blues number with a great stomp. The gear hits the next level in "You Got To Run", where the distorted riffing get a place in the sun. The dreamily somber "Son Of The Morning" is a real beauty, fat and slow riffs along with a soulful voice make this a high note on the album. In the next tune "Hombre" the guys give a nod to ZZ TOP with this blues rocker. Another heavy blues piece is "When The Sun Breaks" with great guitar handling. The album closes up with heavy bass licks in blues rocker "Shallow Grave". "Bury The Hatchet" is an album full of soul-burning blues that will sort any BBQ out this summer or a long car drive up to the north.
Sum: An excellent heavy blues rocker that should not be missed.

Monday and it's time to present "Record Of The Week"
"Feral Roots", the sixth studio album by the California-based rockers RIVAL SONS.
10 years as a band and I have followed them since 2011. It has been a wonderful time, that with great anticipation at every album release, nothing I pretend about, the high expectations have been fulfilled and joy procured. A band that lives on the road, visit Sweden at least once a year, usually two. Then having the time and creativity to create a new album in between and keep the high standard is magical.
"Feral Roots" is a great example, or I should say that it's more like a testament that RIVAL SONS is one of the greatest bands in the contemporary bluesy rock 'n' roll and high energy riffs.
Already at the first riff of album opener "Do Your Worst", follows the sound that we are familiar with, powerful and catchy piece, with an guitar work to die for. "Sugar On The Bone" is continues on the same line with a guitar driven rock and a soaring vocals. "Back In The Woods", drumming intro signed Michael Miley until he lets in Beste and Holiday to join the party, then it's Miles with his odd drum breakdowns and Buchanan that stands in the light backed with a choir of Kristen Rogers and Whitney Coleman. The girls also help out in tunes as the beauty "Feral Roots", swagger "Stood by Me", rollicking "Imperial Joy" and the funky "All Directions". "Look Away" opens up with an acoustic guitar intro until the electrics turns on, bluesy rock in it's best way, with excellent musicianship between the guys. The title tune "Feral Roots" is one of true high lights, a soulful vocal that gives goose bumps and provide tremors throughout the body, holy Moses! The tune "Too Bad" opens up with a pretty cool guitar lick, the tune have a great intensity. "End Of Forever" have a vintage modern electric vibe, dynamic atmosphere. The album closes with
"Shooting Stars", opens with The Nashville Urban Choir and Buchanan in a gospel-style of engagement, really powerful and meaningful in today's social world.
"Feral Roots" shows the band's versatility in both musical craftsmanship and the execution that gives the listener a musical-ride of blusey rock n' roll with an excellent intensity. The album was recorded live in Nashville, Tennessee’s own RCA Studio A and the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama. Working once again with producer Dave Cobb. "Feral Roots", was releaserd on Friday, January 25.
Sum: RIVAL SONS show they still can do it. Excellent blend of styles along with their signature sound. Highly recommended!

"A Fooling Dream" is a tune by the Swedish bluesy garage rockers VIDUNDER.
On June 2, 2017 they released the song "A Fooling Dream", the B-side from the 7" single "Thirst". This was the last tune from the band, right after the release, the band decided to let VIDUNDER go.
This is what they said.
"After six intense, and less intense years we have come to a point where we feel it's time to let go, time to put this beast into the grave.
We want to thank all of you who came to our shows, booked our shows, bought our records, distributed our records, recorded our records, drove us around Europe, followed us around Europe, bands that supported us, bands we had the honour to support and to you who helped us in any way not mentioned; THANK YOU!!! The Borlänge rockers GREENLEAF are back with a new full-length album. These Swedish stoners have been visiting Tune Of The Day on regular basis. GREENLEAF started as a side project in late 1999 by Tommi Holappa, Daniel Lidén and Bengt Bäcke. Since then they have released an impressive seven albums and one EP, where the latest is "Hear The Rivers". The category "Stoner Rock" that these guys have burn marked into their flesh can be heard on the new album even if the wings are wider than usual, the styles vary from dirty classic rock riffing, heavy blues rock, swampy desert rock to stoner rock. The sound is both characteristic and personal, heavenly groovy, easily identifiable and very catchy, you know, hard to sit still.
"Hear The Rivers" open up with the energetic "Let It Out!", drums and a fat bass-line signed Hans Fröhlich, along with a fuzzy and catchy riff by Tommi Holappa kicks this steam packed tune-up to the blue, stuck in the bubble and you just want to get out!. "Sweet Is The Sound" an old-school bluesy soul piece, riffy and far out, brilliantly performed by the band. "A Point Of A Secret" is a drum driving tune where Sebastian Olsson keeps the tempo, catchy melody with personal lyrics, great vocals from Arvid Hällagård and smart riffing. "Good Ol’ Goat" is a real stomper, knocking drum intro, bluesy and soaring vocals, distorted heavy swampy blues with a great swing. "The Rumble And The Weight" fuzzy riffing with a hypnotic and intoxicating rumbling melody that will trance you right on the spot. "We Are The Prawns" a slower piece, with great vocal performance and deep lyrics. The sharp straightforward rocker "Oh My Bones", pretty solid tune. "In The Caverns Below" is another powerful tune, with terrific grooviness, riff climbing and energetic drumming. Another generic rocker is "High Fever", that makes your body move every muscle, very dangerous tune to play in the car with its high energy and glowing guitars. The last tune, the album closer "The Rivers Lullaby", an eight-minute psychedelic anthem, bluesy with a brilliant vocals, light fingers with thoughtful sweep on the guitar strings to some real sludgy riffs, emotional drumming, fat and chunky basslines with a bombastic ending makes this tune an adventurous experience, a brilliant choice to end a marvellous album.
"Hear The Rivers" is a solid album with a superb musically handcraft, greatly produced and well written. The album was released through Napalm Records November 9th. The album was produced by former GREENLEAF- and DOZER drummer Karl Daniel Lidén (CRAFT, BLOODBATH, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX). The bearded dudes will hit European roads in November.
Sum: "Hear The Rivers" is an absolute gem of an album. Don't miss this!
