BIG KIZZ is pretty new rock band featuring drummer Axel Sjöberg (ex-GRAVEYARD), bassist John Hoyles (SPIDERS, ex-WITCHCRAFT) and vocalist/guitarist Pontus Westman (LADY BANANA).

A classic garage pop rock’n’roll band that released their debut album "Music Is Magic" on Teepee records May 18th, 2018.

Uncle Acid - Melody Lane

UNCLE ACID & THE DEADBEATS (or simply UNCLE ACID) are an English rock band, formed in Cambridge by Kevin Starrs. The band have released four albums and a number of singles. They have appeared at a number of festivals around Europe and several times here at Tune Of The Day.

UNCLE ACID are atm out on thier "The Night Creeper Tour" with support from RUBY THE HATCHET and ECSTATIC VISION. From there they will travel to Europe and the UK to complete a full tour over October/November with support from Spiders(SE) and on Saturday they will stand on the stage at Debaser Medis, see the dates below.

Todays tune "Melody Lane" is a warm up for the Saturday concert, the tune is taken from the new album - The Night Creeper. Released worldwide on Rise Above Records, Friday September 4th!

Spiders - Shake Electric

Monday, which means it's time to introduce this week's "Record Of The Week"

"Shake Electric" is the second album release from the Swedish, heady four piece rock band "Spiders"

Spiders have a classic retro sound. Musically it’s fast heavy hard garage rock with a strong 70's feel with a modern twist.  

Spiders retained its rawness and glorious messiness from the debut album. "Shake Electric" is a great record that is wrapped around with some great powerful vocals from Ann-Sofie Hoyles along with some meaty and catchy riffs. The songs are at high-quality and excellent performed. They have delivered a really enjoyable set of classic songs with the vintage sounds that will suit most of the rockers out there.

A perfect Christmas gift for all the rockers of classic rock from the 70's.

Spiders was formed in Gothenburg in February 2010. A few months later the band appeared at one of Sweden’s most successful music festivals, Way Out West. It was around this time SPIDERS for the first time as a band stepped into the studio with producer Don Ahlsterberg (The Soundtrack of Our Lives, International Noise Conspiracy) and started recording.

By the end of January 2011 Spiders released their debut record, a 10” vinyl EP on Crusher Records containing four tracks. The self-titled release was very well received and noticed in Record Collector as well airplayed on Sweden’s largest radio channel P3. In March 2011 those four previously released tracks came to be released in the USA as two separate 7” singles, one on Kemado Records the other on Valley King Records, the latter with an artwork made by well-known artist Alan Forbes.

Around this time drummer Axel Sjöberg, former drummer, left Spiders to work full time on Graveyard and came to be replaced by Ricard Harryson. In May 2011 Spiders stepped into the studio for the second time recording a two track single to be released on vinyl by De:Nihil Records in August and digital by Crusher Records in September.

In June 2012 Spiders began recording songs for their debut album. In early October the very same year the album, entitled “Flash Point”, was released. The album immediately reached the Sverigetopplistan, the Swedish Sales Charts of most sold albums. In November and December SPIDERS went on European tour together with Graveyard. By the end of the same year SPIDERS’ debut album was nominated by P3 Gold (Swedish Radio Award) for best Rock/Metal of the Year.

In 2013 the band appeared on Sweden Rock Festival, toured Scandinavia, Spain and Portugal. In 2014 SPIDERS supported Kvelertak in Scandinavia and Blood Ceremony throughout Europe. On May 27th they release the new single “Mad Dog” on Reaktor Recordings / Universal Music.

Vidunder - Into Her Grave

Vidunder is bluesy 70’s rock with a touch of garage, with influences deeply rooted in the early days of bluesy rock bands like Captain Beyond and Blue Cheer. The trio now joins Spiders, Horisont and Dean Allen Foyd, by releasing their debut album on Crusher Records.

Vidunder from Malmö, a city in the south part of Sweden, features Martin Prim (vocals and guitar), Linus Larsson (bass) and Jens Rasmussen (drums). The band was formed in mid-2011 and it didn’t take long before they released their debut single Asmodeus on Crusher Records (the very same year). Vidunder’s self-titled album is to be released on May 24th, 2013.

Todays tune "Into Her Grave", taken from the upcoming debut that has an authentic vintage feel to it bringing the thoughts back to country fellows Witchcraft, Graveyard and maybe even the predecessors Norrsken. The Video released 25th of April 2013. The self titled debut album, released on Crusher Records 24th of may 2013.

Bombus - A Safe Passage

Last Saturday I spent the evening with some friends, the plan where a dinner and a visit at Debaser Slussen. The evening entertainment where Bombus, Spiders and Gordon Fights.

The evening began with a really nice dinner at Rival with a bunch of friends who wanted to celebrate this rocker. (Yes, I have become a year older.) With a good meal in the stomach and a few beers, we went down to Slussen to inhale the sweet tones of great music. First one was the Stockholm band Fights Gordon, who has previously made ​​a visit here on Tune Of The Day. They also had their release party for their debut album, but I did not see any records, had actually wanted purchase a copy, sounded really good live, although you could note that there where a gang of non experienced live musicians, they were incredibly talented but slightly rigid live. A fun little parenthesis was that one of the guitarists got nutspin on stage, and looked almost crazy on the end when he was headbanging and throwing the guitar around his neck.

Band number two on stage where Spiders, with a female pipe to the quite scaled down garage rock, performed their set really well, nice swing in the songs, had wished that her voice was clearer, disappeared at times into the porridge.

The clock was approaching midnight and now it was time for Bombus to get up on stage and they did with a bang, shit, this was heavy. Bombus känndes directly to the most experienced of the three bands that lirade and they lit the audience directly, enough for all bands in the evening had a good response, but you could feel the air that this was what everyone was waiting for. 'll Say it short, really fucking good.

A little fun was that I ran into lots of acquaintances, also bumped in to Tom Swiesciak and Jonte Royal, cool guys!

Tom who works as a freelance journalist, wrote a review for the magazine Gaff, read it here (in Swedish so use a translator)

M.I.A. - Born Free

 

Saturday, also Salary weekend as it so nicely put when for the coincidence is money in the account. Not that it wont take long before it is empty again.

Yesterday was Josh Groban on "Globen" a concert that I did not see very much of, what I heard it was pretty sleepy so in other words I missed probably nothing.

Today it's full speed ahead here in Stockholm, especially when we're talking concerts.

At Gyllene Cirkeln plays Trettioåriga Kriget where they will perform both the new album and the debut album from 1974 in its entirety. Very exciting.

At Debaser, where the club Pussy A Go-Go has a gathering where bands such as "Bombus", "Spiders" and "Gordon Fights" performs, there I was going to go tonight. Report on this will be after the weekend.

WWDIS organizes a musical evening on the Strand with the legend, ghostrider and one half of Suicide, the sunglasses adorned Martin Rev. He is also involved in today's tune!

Todays tune "Born Free" was written and produced by M.I.A. and co-produced by Switch. The song opens with a frantic rhythm built around a sample from 1977's "Ghost Rider" by the seminal synthpunk band Suicide. M.I.A., which stands for Missing In Action and is a play on her name, is an English singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, painter and music video director of Sri Lankan Tamil descent. Her compositions combine elements of hip-hop, electronica, dance, alternative and world music.

In 2011, NME ranked the video number thirteen on the list of the 100 Top Greatest Music Videos ever made.

Gordon Fights - Time Machine

 

Blues-driven Swedish rock band Gordon Fights visit us with their debut single "Time Machine". This is a wonderful rock 'n roll frenzy, here has the brush been dipped into Lynyrd Skynyrd's paint bucket. Splashing their art with MC5 and Humble Pie, it's really good expressed and swings awesome, with a clear love for the 70 century, Southern rock. To get the true feeling in the rythms have they let their mustaches lie in a bath of U.S. imported beers.

Their debut "Gordon Fights" has been just been reviewed in WeRock by Fredrik Sandberg actually got a good review score and in my eyes / ears, a perfect purchase. I hope of course, that this album will be released on Vinyl! On WeRock you will also find the month harvest of reviews, including albums with bands like "Chaos Divine", "Thalamus","Portrait", "Craft" and "Pain" and several.

On 24th September will the club "Pussy a Go Go" have its premiere at Debaser Slussen, it will be record release with Gordon Fights and of course live music. In addition, guests this evening of no less than Bombus and Spiders, ensure that you go there.

Todays tune "Time Machine" is the first single for what's to come. Their debut album
will be released in late September.
