Ibaraki - Tamashii No Houkai

TRIVIUM singer and guitarist Matthew kiichichaos Heafy reveals the first single from his long-awaited and much-anticipated IBARAKI project.

IBARAKI — the name for a terrifying Japanese demon taken from feudal legend — is the end result of Kiichi's continued journey to find his voice. It's personal, it's deep, and its inspirations include everything from an adoration for the extremes of black metal and beyond. "'Tamashii No Houkai' means 'the breaking of the soul' or 'soul collapse," explains Kiichi. "It's a Japanese term that didn't exist before, but one we forged to reflect the song's meaning." Kiichi, who is of Japanese heritage, continues, "'Tamashii No Houkai' is co-written by Ihsahn the legend behind EMPEROR official and a musician who has been a longtime influence and mentor to so much that I do in music. The writing of this song was the turning point for IBARAKI — it summarized everything from the past, present, and future of what I thought black metal was, is, and could be." Kiichi finishes, "'Tamashii No Houkai' is the perfect summary and representation of everything that IBARAKI is… and will be."

It was Kiichi's exposure to Ihsahn solo work that would inspire the gradual craftsmanship that would eventually become IBARAKI. It was also the beginning of a friendship and creative collaboration that would eventually compel Ihsahn to take a leap of his own into a newfound role as producer on the project. While much of the material for IBARAKI was assembled over months and years — as much a songwriting process as an exchange of ideas between friends — it wasn't until the pandemic that the space was created and the idea could really flourish.

Today's tune "Tamashii No Houkai" by IBARAKI project with special guest Ihsahn of EMPEROR. Enjoy! .

Doctor Smoke - Dreamers And The Dead

Monday, a new week and it's time for us to present "Record Of The Week".

The Ohio rockers DOCTOR SMOKE is a new discovery for me, but after a spin of the new album "Dreamers And The Dead", I just screamed hell yeah, finally something really good in the stream of thousands of releases! This is high fueled classic heavy metal in the best possible way, a real slap in the face!

"Dreamers And The Dead" is the second album release by the band, seven years after their debut "The Witching Hour". DOCTOR SMOKE plays an eclectic mix of styles, where classic heavy metal is the base, mixed up with some Occultish hard rock, NWOBHM, dark heavy rock and melodic metal that the band mixes between during this ride over 10 marvelous tunes that clocks in at almost forty three minutes. The album was Mixed by Mike Ofca at Innovation Studios, Steubenville, Ohio. Mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios, Örebro, Sweden. Cover art by Adam Burke.

DOCTOR SMOKE is:
Matt Tluchowski - Vocals/Guitar
Steve Lehocky - Lead Guitar
Jeff Young - Bass
Cody Cooke - Drums

"Dreamers And The Dead" is a really nice ride where the four-piece Ohio rockers servers us some infectious songcraft. The vocalist and guitarist Matt Tluchowski has a great voice with a good range and vibe. The lead guitarist Steve Lehocky adds some excellent riffing and hooks. The bass licks are mixed well and are nice executed by Jeff Young that works well with the drummer Cody Cooke’s fills and well played drums.

The album opens up with "Reborn Into Darkness", and gives us a mix of 70's hard rock with a modern feeling. The following tune "These Horrid Things" is a lovely piece with some fuzzy guitars and some marvelous solos. Somehow Alice Cooper comes to mind, dunno why but the end result is really good. The tempo slows down a notch when "Waking Dreams" takes on. Feels at the start more to a standard filler until halfway true where the magic happens and the guitars are let loose free on the highway. Excellent playing by the lads. "Out Of Time" is back on track again with some more classic metal where the time zone could be somewhere in the eights. "Been Here Forever" is a really catchy and groovy piece, love it. "What Lies Beyond" follows up in a softer way, heavy bass, light guitar riffs, powerful vocals, and a really cool mid-part with some old-school progressive vibe. "Dreamers And The Dead", time for the title tune to make its entrance, high fueled metal, catchy and doomy. "Vexed" is a groovy rocker, where MASTODON echos in the atmosphere. "The Rope" follows the same path, feels modern but catchy, light progressive guitar playing with an Eddie Van Halen wailing. The album closes up with "This Hallowed Ground", a great rocker that summons up all the turns we have got served during this ride with DOCTOR SMOKE. The tune has some really nice guitar work, cool tempo changes, great vocals, and a marvelous rhythm section that ends this album really well. DOCTOR SMOKE really shows some great musical craftmanship and songwriting skills. There is not a bad thing about the album at all, the only downside is the band name, hey DOCTOR SMOKE, you guys could at least come up with something more clever. Anyway, this is an album that I highly recommend giving a listen to.

Sum: "Dreamers And The Dead" is a great Dark Heavy Metal album.

Today's tune "This Hallowed Ground", taken from "Dreamers And The Dead", released September 3, 2021, through Ripple Music.

Mastodon - Pushing The Tides

The Atlanta metal mainstays MASTODON are back on track and standing close to the road with their ninth studio double-album "Hushed And Grim", in their hand, an album that spanning 15 tunes in total, is slated for release on October 29 via Reprise Records. It comes as the follow-up to 2017’s "Emperor Of Sand", which scored MASTODON a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 2017 Grammy Awards (they would later win a Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2018).

In addition to the great news of the new album, the band has released the first single "Pushing The Tides" taken from the new one.

When MASTODON was unable to tour the past year due to the global pandemic, the band took the downtime to enter the studio with producer David Bottrill (TOOL, MUSE and RUSH) in their hometown and make "Hushed And Grim".

A press release teases that "Hushed And Grim" will be a notably experimental record, saying it sees the band “surveying sonic landscapes of rock, psychedelia, punk, metal, alternative, and prog threaded together by the innately expressive musical interplay of these four virtuosic musicians”. It also states that the album pays homage to the band’s late manager Nick John, who passed away in 2018 after fighting pancreatic cancer.

Today's tune "Pushing The Tides", taken from the upcoming album "Hushed And Grim", enjoy!

Genghis Tron - Dream Weapon

Monday, new week, time for us to present "Record Of The Week".

The Poughkeepsie, New Yorkers GENGHIS TRON make their return with their highly anticipated new album, "Dream Weapon". The band’s first new studio outing in over a decade, GENGHIS TRON's Hamilton Jordan and Michael Sochynsky are now joined by two new collaborators: vocalist Tony Wolski and SUMAC/BAPTISTS drummer Nick Yacyshyn. Together, the lineup perfects the unique mix of extreme rock and electronic music GENGHIS TRON has pioneered over their storied career. A melding of hypnotic rhythms and densely layered synth soundscapes, "Dream Weapon" was recorded and produced alongside long-time collaborator Kurt Ballou at God City Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, with additional production and engineering by Ben Chisolm (Chelsea Wolfe) and JJ Heath (RAIN CITY RECORDERS).

"Dream Weapon" is an interesting journey, and I must say that I really dig this a bit far out way to create music, where all the best pieces are put together in a marvelous mix. Lyrically and conceptually, "Dream Weapon" picks up where "Board Up The House" left off. With this album there are some new elements were introduced, the trance-like repetition that during the time gets very meditative and hypnotic, very loosely, an album-length meditation on that theme.

From the short instrumental introduction in the opener "Exit Perfect Mind" makes the way for the first electronic chapter "Pyrocene" and in here we get the first notice of the changes in the personnel of the band that I find very positive and suits this new step away from the metal genre. The title tune is more bombastic and chaotic with a hell of a drum performance witch overall is a marvelous tune. To cool things off a bit the band offers a two minutes interlude with "Desert Stairs" that is like the aftermath of the tornado that exhales and the follows up by the seven minutes "Alone In The Heart Of The Light" that serves us with an atmospheric and electronic color palette that paints up the vivid landscape of the day after tomorrow. "Ritual Circle" is the longest piece on the album with its ten minutes adventurous journey and feels like it continues the previous track and gives it a proper ending to be followed up by the progressive "Single Black Point" until it's time to wrap up the album with the closer "Great Mother", a big and powerful piece that shifts from beautiful passages into noisy walls of distorted guitars. The album is a very good one and I find this to be a very exciting and interesting piece of art and it also tells us that GENGHIS TRON has grown up and entered a more focused state. "Dream Weapon" was released on 26 March 2021, by Relapse.

Sum: "Dream Weapon" is a genre-defying innovation, highly recommended.

Today's tune is the title track from "Dream Weapon", enjoy!

Ministry - Good Trouble

After enduring a year like 2020, no one could have possibly expected Al Jourgensen to stay silent on the maelstrom of the past 12 months. As the mastermind behind pioneering industrial outfit MINISTRY, Jourgensen has spent the last four decades using music as a megaphone to rally listeners to the fight for equal rights, restoring American liberties, exposing exploitation and putting crooked politicians in their rightful place—set to a background of aggressive riffs, searing vocals and manipulated sounds to drive it home

"Moral Hygiene" comes on the heels of MINISTRY’s acclaimed 2018 album "AmeriKKKant" (hailed by Loudwire as Jourgensen’s own “state of the union” address) that was written as a reaction to Donald J. Trump being elected president—though Jourgensen says this new album is more informational and reflective in tone.

“With AmeriKKKant I was in shock that Trump won. I didn’t know what to do, but I knew I had to do something. Because I believe if you are a musician or an artist you should be expressing what’s going on around you through your art. It’s going to happen whether you do it consciously or unconsciously. "Moral Hygiene" however has progressed even further into a cautionary tale of what will happen if we don’t act. There’s less rage, but there’s more reflection and I bring in some guests to help cement that narrative".

With the release of "Moral Hygiene", Jourgensen is more positive than before. “This may sound crazy but I’m more hopeful about 2021 than I have been in two decades at least,” he says. “Because I do see things changing; people are starting to see through all the bullshit and want to get back to actual decorum in society. We could just treat each other nicely and be treated nicely in return. I never thought MINISTRY would be in the position of preaching traditional values, but this is the rebellion now".

MINISTRY have released a new single "Good Trouble", taken from the upcoming 15th album "Moral Hygiene", set to be released October 1st, 2021 via Nuclear Blast Records!

Enjoy today's tune!

PAIN - Party In My Head

Friday, time for a party tune and PAIN, the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and mastermind Peter Tägtgren, has released its first original song in five years: "Party In My Head".

Listen now on all streaming platforms: https://party.painworldwide.com

Blending '80s synth, electro, and metal, PAIN delivers one hell of an anthem providing a powerful sonic vaccine against the distress and depression caused by the worldwide pandemic.

Tägtgren comments: "I decided to write a song about all the bullshit from the last year of lock-up and people's struggle, including my own, to adapt to the new way of life. Suddenly, all of us had to deal with our inner selves in our secluded new life, so this is the cheer-up song for people. Each of us has our own party in our head. Musically, it's a hell of a party song. I can't wait to play it live."

The video features a guest appearance by Joe Lynn Turner (RAINBOW, YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN, DEEP PURPLE) and the return of the Alien from PAIN's biggest hit, "Shut Your Mouth". Peter’s son Sebastian plays drums on the track.

Enjoy today's tune!

Zeal & Ardor - Run

Manuel Gagneux releases "Run" as the first taster of the forthcoming third ZEAL & ARDOR album.

A tune that is very intense and full of aggression. ZEAL & ARDOR frontman Manuel Gagneux says, “Run is the first single we are releasing off of our self-titled album because, while there are definitely familiar elements present, it sets the tone for things to come. It is surely one of our most aggressive songs yet, but that is just a vanguard of what lies ahead. So run while you still can.”

“Originally I was set to record an album scheduled to come out next year. As these songs were written due to the horrendous events that instilled them I decided to release them as soon as possible. Using the rich heritage and culture as a part of my musical identity it felt like cowardice to sit by and continue with my routine as if nothing happened

This record is for Michael Brown, Eric Garner, George Floyd and the countless untold and nameless killed.”

ZEAL & ARDOR is a Swiss avant-garde metal band started and led by Manuel Gagneux, a Swiss-American musician who had previously created a chamber pop project called BIRDMASK. Formed in 2013, the band mixes sounds of African-American spirituals with black metal.

Initially a solo project, the band signed with MVKA records in 2016 and expanded to a full lineup, with Gagneux on vocals and guitar, backing vocalists Denis Wagner and Marc Obrist, guitarist Tiziano Volante, bassist Mia Rafaela Dieu, and drummer Marco Von Allmen. The project started in New York City, but is now based in Basel, Switzerland.

ZEAL & ARDOR has released two albums, "Devil Is Fine" (2016), and "Stranger Fruit" (2018), as well as a demo album "Zeal And Ardor" (2014). In 2020, they released their first EP, "Wake Of A Nation".

Today's tune "Run" is taken from the upcoming self titled album, enjoy!

Gojira - Fortitude

Monday, a new week and it's time to present "Record Of The Week".

"Fortitude" is the seventh full-length release for the French metal band GOJIRA, the album was released on 30 April 2021 through Roadrunner Records. The album was recorded at the band's studio in New York City and was produced by Joe Duplantier and mixed by Andy Wallace.

GOJIRA is the main French metal export that we have today, and it is with a warm welcome to receive their new creation "Fortitude" which slips into the mailbox with a big noise and heavy crash. And after a few spins can one immediately rejoice, that the sequel to "Magma" is undoubtedly a delight where they have continued to work around their creative integrity that has always been the groundstone of their work. "Fortitude" brilliance followup and sits like a slap in the face on this first real spring day of 2021.

"Fortitude" has eleven tracks with a playtime of fifty-two minutes. The album's title "Fortitude", is to inspire people to be the best version of themselves and to be strong no matter what. The cover art, which represents "the spirit of the album", was designed and painted by Joe Duplantier. His brother Mario brought him various paintings of warriors and knights and showed him Pallas Athena, an 1898 oil-on-canvas painting by Gustav Klimt, and Knights of the Round Table. As he wanted to represent an indigenous person, it ended with his own interpretation of all these elements.

With the two first singles "Born For One Thing" and "Another World" did we get the GOJIRA which we are more familiar with, heavy riffs by Christian Andreu, tight bass licks by Jean-Michel Labadie, excellent spiral vocals by Joe Duplantier and marvelous drumming by the genius Mario Duplantier. The groovy "Amazonia", with a progressive, post-rock approach in GOJIRA style, just love the African vibe, mouth harp with clouds of smokey chants, which talks about the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest (especially the 2019 Amazon rainforest wildfires), was released as part of a month-long fundraiser for a Brazilian indigenous rights charity curated by GOJIRA. A killer riff opens up "New Found" which is an excellent piece, same goes with "Sphinx" and "Into The Storm" which follows the more classic GOJIRA template.

That the band continues to experiment and expand their sound is something that I think is really good, shows that they want to develop and find new stones to stand on. That is something we get a lot on this album, something we need to get used to. Starting on the fourth tune "Hold On", where the tune starts off really softish with a big space, light riffs, and drums, almost chanting vocals, all in a beautiful and almost sad packaging. Until the heavy riffage starts almost two minutes in and the layout changes direction to a more angry, next to pissed off Joe, who after a while is "hold on" tight before he tears himself loose and goes berserk again. "The Trails" is a softer, mesmeric, and haunting piece that in its own beauty takes the band outside their normal comfort zone. The title tune "Fortitude" is a true curveball, with this campfire piece, heavy bass playing, light guitar, tambourine, and chanting vocals that continue on electric "The Chant", heavier with a bluesy alt-rock touch, very melodic and mesmerizing tune. The album closes up with a true bang of the "Grind", where all the leftover energy erupts in a riff Bonzai, amazing bass licks that you can headbang too until your hair falls off. The album is really excellent, technical, melodic, provocative, experimental, and full of memorable moments that are very enjoyable to listen to. I highly recommend this!

Joe Duplantier – vocals, rhythm guitar, production, arrangements, cover art
Christian Andreu – lead guitar
Jean-Michel Labadie – bass guitar
Mario Duplantier – drums

Sum: "Fortitude" shows a powerful and broad spectrum of GOJIRA

Today's tune "The Chant" is taken from "Fortitude", enjoy!

Light The Torch - Wilting In The Light

Time fortifies the bonds between us. Since emerging in 2018, LIGHT THE TORCH has grown stronger in lockstep together as a band and as friends. Through this growth, the Los Angeles, CA trio, Howard Jones [vocals], Francesco Artusato [guitar], and Ryan Wombacher [bass] only enhanced every aspect of their signature sound. Upheld by head-spinning seven-string virtuosity, yet also anchored to skyscraping melodies, the group crafted twelve no-nonsense and no-holds-barred metallic anthems on their 2021 second full-length album, "You Will Be The Death Of Me" out via Nuclear Blast.

"The past few years have helped me to become much more personal in my writing,” explains Howard. “Even though I’m kind of a loner, this band became a real family. My experiences with Ryan and Fran inside and outside of the band truly bonded us. I think it shows in this album, it truly represents who we are as a group.”

“Every second on this record was thought-out,” adds Fran. “Howard’s performance gives me chills because it feels so alive. There’s so much emotion in it. I know the guy very well at this point, and our friendship is a big part of LIGHT THE TORCH.” That friendship cemented over the course of the past three years. The group shot out of the gate as a contender on their full-length debut, "Revival". It bowed at #4 on the Billboard US Independent Albums Chart and at #10 on the Hard Rock Albums Chart in addition to receiving acclaim from Revolver, Outburn, and many more. “Calm Before the Storm” racked up a staggering 14.5 million Spotify streams, while “The Safety of Disbelief” remains one of SiriusXM Octane’s all-time most requested songs. They also crisscrossed North America and Europe on tour with the likes of TRIVIUM, AVATAR, IN FLAMES, ICE NICE KILLS, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, and AUGUST BURNS RED to name a few.

In late 2019, an idea for the title track “Death of Me” kickstarted the creative process. The guys returned to Sparrow Sound in Glendale, CA to once again work with the production team of Josh Gilbert and Joseph McQueen [BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, AS I LAY DYING, SUICIDE SILENC]. This time around, they also welcomed WHITECHAPEL’s Alex Rudinger on drums. “He’s incredible,” says Fran. “He was exactly what we needed.” Now, they kick down the door for "You Will Be The Death of Me" with the single “Wilting In The Light.” Howard’s instantly recognizable vocals soar over a sweeping riff and rolling beat before culminating on a massive luminous hook, “Over and over again we struggle. We’re wilting in the light, and we stumble in the dark.”“It has a different vibe and a very interesting riff,” observes Howard. “I love it when listeners can take what they want from a song. This was a special one for us.”

The Band:
Howard Jones - Vocals
(Ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, BLOOD HAS BEEN SHED)
Francesco Artusato - Guitar
(Ex-ALL SHALL PERISH, THE FRANCESCO ARTUSATO PROJECT)
Ryan Wombacher - Bass
 (BLEEDING THROUGH)

In the end, the bond between LIGHT THE TORCH burns brighter than ever in the music as they deliver a definitive statement with "You Will Be The Death Of Me".

Enjoy today's tune "Wilting In The Light" from the LIGHT THE TORCH album, "You Will Be The Death Of Me", out June 25, 2021, via Nuclear Blast

The Residents - Die!, Die!, Die!

"Metal, Meat & Bone – The Songs Of Dyin’ Dog" is the latest album by the American art collective THE RESIDENTS, best known for their avant-garde music and multimedia works. Since their first official release, "Meet the Residents" (1974), they have released over 60 albums, numerous music videos and short films, three CD-ROM projects, and ten DVDs. They have undertaken seven major world tours and scored multiple films. Pioneers in exploring the potential of CD-ROM and similar technologies, the Residents have won several awards for their multimedia projects. They founded Ralph Records, a record label focusing on avant-garde music, in 1972.

Throughout the group's existence, the individual members have ostensibly attempted to work anonymously, preferring to have attention focused on their art. Much speculation and rumor has focused on this aspect of the group. In public, they appear silent and costumed, often wearing eyeball helmets, top hats and tails—a costume now recognized as their signature iconography. In 2017, Hardy Fox, long known to be associated with THE RESIDENTS, identified himself as the band's co-founder and primary composer; he died in 2018.

THE RESIDENTS' albums generally fall into two categories: deconstructions of Western popular music, and complex conceptual pieces composed around a theme, theory or plot. The group is noted for surrealistic lyrics and sound, with a disregard for conventional music composition.

The lineup of collaborators as featured on THE RESIDENTS' latest album, "Metal, Meat & Bone – The Songs Of Dyin’ Dog", released July 10, 2020, is as follows: Eric Drew Feldman, Carla Fabrizio, Nolan Cook, Peter Whitehead & Sivan Lioncub.

Today's tune and the first single "Die!, Die!, Die!" out of "Metal, Meat & Bone – The Songs Of Dyin’ Dog", featuring Black Francis from the PIXIES.

Tribulation - Where Gloom Becomes Sound

New week, new month and it's time to present "Record Of The Week".

"Where Gloom Becomes Sound" is the fifth album by the Swedish metal prides TRIBULATION. The album is also the second big album release for 2021 that I review here at Tune Of The Day and BANG!! what a freaking release this is, I'm blown away! TRIBULATION never ceases to fascinate and enchant.

"Where Gloom Becomes Sound" contains ten tunes with forty-eight minutes of playtime that is executed in the best possible way, greatly balanced, darkly atmospheric, and remarkably consistent record. Big and razor-sharp melodies, an enchanting soundscape that is created with both heart and soul, really well crafted accurate composition with a magnific flow which makes you shake and fire up with excitement that small pearls bubbling up on your forehead. "Where Gloom Becomes Sound" opens the doors of "In Remembrance" and the quartet invites you to dive in an electrified double-door to the boiling cauldron of myths, magic, and mystery, the death grunts in Johannes Andersson vocals makes you hold tight and light a candle, the first lines in the opening tune is in Swedish.

"Det är som mörkast före gryningen,
De alla har slutat andas och luften står still,
Ur stålet strömma en motståndskraft,
Som brutit fasornas sigill"

So powerful and frightening, these lines could be translated as ("It's darkest before dawn, They have all stopped breathing and the air stands still, From the steel flows a resistance force, Which has broken the seal of the horrors") .

The bombastic drumming of Oscar Leander is magnific throughout the whole album and works well with Johannes Andersson bass playing that gives a warm surface. Oscar Leander stands out a little extra at the end when he sweeps like a crazy bull in "Funeral Pyre" and in "Daughter Of The Djinn". The fifth tune "Lethe" is a short piano instrumental played by Jonathan Hultén, a really delicious piece, its Beethoven-Esque sonata evocations providing some brief breathing space. Adam Zaars and Jonathan Hultén's guitars are marvelous, a true sublime display of beauty and strength straight true the whole piece. Listen to the opening part of "Hour Of The Wolf", goosebumps. The euphoric darkness of "Leviathans" is a true gem where they finger a little on the other side of the border to shoe-gaze. The neoclassical guitars in "Dirge Of A Dying Soul" are so beautiful that I melt into a big meat pile. "Inanna" shows that they really know their stuff, so nicely done. The catchy driven piece "Elementals" have so much stuff embedded in itself, and the guitar solo... incredible experience. The closing "The Wilderness" is another beauty that breaks boundaries in their musical craftmanship and the guitar playing, drumming, bass, vocals, just fabulous.

That this will be the last record from guitarist and songwriter Jonathan Hultén, who dropped out of the band after the recording of the album. I would say, it is in a way his "swan song" (farewell, goodbye) and that makes the listening all the more sentimental. The replacement is Joseph Tholl (VOJD, ENFORCER, DEATH BY FIRE, ROBERT PEHRSSON) a great guitarist so I think they are in good hands, and how it will work out remains to be seen. "Where Gloom Becomes Sound" is a remarkably consistent album.

The album title is inspired by darkwave artist Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows, which could not be more timeless. The statue on the album cover is made by Fernand Khnopff at the end of the 19th century. The immaculate production was helmed by TRIBULATION, producer Jamie Elton, mixing ace Tom Dalgety (GHOST, RAMMSTEIN), and mastering star Magnus Lindberg (LUCIFER, DOOL). The album was released on January 29th, 2021, via Century Media Records.

In this musical genre, TRIBULATION is probably the best we have in Sweden, so today I am really proud to be Swedish.

Sum: "Where Gloom Becomes Sound" takes you on a journey unlike any other.

Old Kerry McKee - Cattle & Wolves

Old Kerry Mckee is a one-man-band based in rural Sweden, in the outskirts of the village Larv. He started out as a death-metal musician but eventually replaced band members with acoustic guitar, home-built drums and an old record player. He's the link that should not be between old folk, blues and black metal. Forged in punk and metal, but forever steeped in the gritty, crooked and idiosyncratic blues-gone-horrid that is so evident in his music. At the same time it's gut-wrenchingly beautiful, dynamic and without a doubt soulful to the max.

Old Kerry Mckee blends the contemporary with the past into his own peculiar compound that transpires genres such as country, metal, folk, and punk. His music has been described as melancholic and with nasal howlings and dark lyrics he battles subjects like poverty, humanism & psychedelia.

When this exquisite spectrum of sound and emotion is performed live we experience something best described as a collision of natural elements, conducted by a guy who wears his heart on his distressed sleeve, cutting it open for everyone to see inside.

Ever since the initial beginnings of Old Kerry McKee, the acoustic guitar has always been the companion closest to heart, faithful, proudly represented and also the most evident part of the creative process. And so, after many years, guitars, experiments and curses, it has fulfilled its role and is now to be succeeded by the electric guitar. This, accompanied by the ever present vinyl player and a new found friend, the cassette recorder, a new sound is slowly taking its shape with the new album. More obscure old vinyls and self constructed sound effects in a grumbling mass will continue to be a big part of the new music, and so as something old is buried, something new is brought to life. Those still standing will be well versed...

"Mono Secular Sounds" is an excellent album, order it on Vinyl just a few minutes ago, I belive I will get back on this as soon as it arrives. Get "Mono Secular Sounds" on bandcamp here https://oldkerrymckee.bandcamp.com/

Today's tune "Cattle & Wolves" is taken from the album "Mono Secular Sounds", released on on Icons Creating Evil Art (INgrooves) at October 23, 2020

Draconian - Under A Godless Veil

Monday, new week and it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

"Under A Godless Veil" is the seventh album by the Swedish gothic doom metal DRACONIAN. Since forming in 1994 in Säffle, Sweden, they have established themselves as one of the foremost bands. The five years has past since the last album "Sovran" was released, and it was the first with the new vocalist Heike Langhans. The band is still intact since the previous one and "Under A Godless Veil" follows the same path of its predecessor, but expands their route to prefect the formula they've been working on for such a long time.

"Under A Godless Veil" is a gorgeous creation of dark and slow gothic doom metal, mournful full of melancholy riffing, imposing sorrowful growls by Anders and tender, human hearted clean vocals by Heike. The album will spellbind you completely after the first minute on the opening "Sorrow Of Sophia" and sets the mood and speed how the album will take it's path during the up coming 62 minutes. With it's haunting power and the visceral magic of melody in "The Sacrificial Flame" is just marvelous, or the killer of the single "Sleepwalkers". The doomy "Moon Over Sabaoth" is a really epic piece followed by the atmospheric interlude of "Buried Fields". "The Sethian" is another very powerful and sentimental tune that softens the tear ducts. That heartfelt manner continues in the softish "Claw Marks On The Throne" that gives varying degrees of drama and serenity. "Night Visitor" is touching ballad that breaks well out from the heaviness. Everything ends in a very elegance way of the nine minutes "Ascend Into Darkness" that wraps "Under A Godless Veil" is the best possible way. This is an album that I highly recomend you to get.

Sum: "Under A Godless Veil" is a real goth/doom beauty.

Anders Jacobsson - Vocals
Johan Ericson - Guitars, Vocals
Daniel Arvidsson - Guitars
