Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats - Wasteland

Monday, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

"Wasteland" is the fifth full-length release for the British psychedelic rock band UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS (UA) led by Kevin Starrs, "Wasteland" was recorded at the iconic Sunset Sound studio, Los Angeles and was released on October 12th 2018 on Rise Above Records.

As we know the band by now, a wonderful and mysterious musical journey is expected in the dark-blown 60-70's cult film-inspired rock.

The same ingredients have been used to create "Wasteland" that the band is know for. The album opens up with "I See Through You" a rock driven and wilful catchy piece that rolls out the red carpet for "Wasteland", great tune indeed. It follows up with a ballsy heavy riff in "Shockwave City", a heavy rocker that could have been made in the 70's. "No Return" is a nine minute sluggish, creepy thing that follows the band's classic path that ooze psychedelic dizzy on an abandoned cemetery. Early IRON MAIDEN comes to mind when it's time for "Blood Runner" and "Stranger Tonight", two tunes that with high tempo and galloping twin guitas, lumbering riffs and great hooks stands out abit. The half pace title track "Wasteland" is a real epic, a lighter approch, acoustic guitars, softer vocals. The two last tunes on the album are horn and organ featuring tune "Bedouin" and the spaced out ending in "Exodus".

Sum: "Wasteland" is high-watermark album from your favourite freaked-out uncle.

Uncle Acid - Melody Lane

UNCLE ACID & THE DEADBEATS (or simply UNCLE ACID) are an English rock band, formed in Cambridge by Kevin Starrs. The band have released four albums and a number of singles. They have appeared at a number of festivals around Europe and several times here at Tune Of The Day.

UNCLE ACID are atm out on thier "The Night Creeper Tour" with support from RUBY THE HATCHET and ECSTATIC VISION. From there they will travel to Europe and the UK to complete a full tour over October/November with support from Spiders(SE) and on Saturday they will stand on the stage at Debaser Medis, see the dates below.

Uncle Acid - Runaway Girls

The British psychedelic doom metal band from Cambridge, "Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats”  have recently released a new single ”Runaway Girls” together with a new video, see below.

Their music is heavily influenced by the late 1960s when heavy metal was emerging. Allmusic praised the band's ability to recreate a particular aspect of this era, describing the band as "celebrating the Summer of Love's soul-chilling autumn: a blasted landscape, post-flower power, resembling Altamont's killing fields, reeking of the Manson Family murders, and, naturally, sounding like a mish-mash of all of the apocalyptic musical forces that converged upon that era.

The band toured internationally during 2013 and 2014, and played at festivals including Roadburn, Download, Hellfest, Roskilde, Bukta Tromsø Open Air Festival, Montreaux Jazz Festival, Øya Festival, Valkhof, Beacons, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Off Festival, and Soundwave. They supported Black Sabbath on sixteen dates of their Reunion Tour in Europe in November and December 2013. After touring in New Zealand, Australia and Europe in early 2014, their schedule for 2014 includes Maryland Deathfest, Nova Rock Festival, Eurockéennes, Copenhell and Pukkelpop festival.

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - Mind Crawler

Yesterday it happened something unusual, my wife and I went out together without working ... wow, something like that does not happen very often nowadays, unfortunately. This time we made a visit to Debaser strand and additionally we got lots of great music, in which we witnessed this year's best live concert so far. Blood and Sword and Fritz's Corner presented "Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats" and "Dean Allen Foyd", a very nice music menu.

The British hard rockers Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats have spent the fall as the opening act for Black Sabbath European tour and played recently before a boiling Friends Arena.

The band formed in 2009 in Cambridge , UK, and released their debut album "Volume 1 " the following year. Their proper break came with the sequel "Bloodlust" 2011 on Rise Above Records, with a sound described as a cross between Black Sabbath, The Stooges , and the original Alice Cooper band.

In April 2013 the band released their third album "Mind Control", got hailed by music journalists worldwide and since then the band has toured the world to full houses, both by themselves and with Black Sabbath.

Support on the show in Stockholm was the Swedish band Dean Allen Foyd!

The concert was a night to remember!

Todays tune "Mind Crawler" is the second single from Uncle Acid's acclaimed third album, Mind Control. The 7" vinyl features an exclusive b-side, Get on Home - a brand new recording of a song originally written and recorded by Charles Manson.

The band also made a video for the single, directed by Marc Morris it is a paranoia-inducing sensory assault fully capturing sacrifice of social niceties whereby goat skulls, nuns, acid tabs and ritual sex sit alongside trash culture, exploitation movies, rolling news and grainy TV clips of Jim Jones and Charles Manson.

Tune Of The Days - 20 Best Albums of 2013 pos: 11-20

Now we almost reached the end of this year, December 20th and during this time of the year it's time to sum it all up with this year's best albums! This have been a really good year album wise, when I started to collect together all the good albums before this, I realized after a while that this does not really hold when you start approaching 3 digit :) Well after a few hours it starts to resemble to something like a top 20, a really difficult task this year. In other words, it has simply been too much good records.

Many great records have unfortunately fallen off the list, but the music heart have decided and now when I look at it, it was not quite what I had expected from the beginning, which means that this list got to be very interesting. I am absolutely convinced that you not fully agree with me, but this is what I like. And luckily is the taste is divided, how else would it be.

First up we present this year's best albums between 11-20. Where you get the first 10 at once.

11. Ghost - Infestissumam

Swedish ghouls, with their "hard" second album  Infestissumam have Ghost actually taken a step forward and reveal the incredible creativity and created a worthy sequel.

12. Purson - The Circle And The Blue Door

The singer Rosie Cunningham is mastery of 60s-tinged eeriness and acid-fried atmospheres have created a real mystique record The Circle And The Blue Door, a record that for sure will release you totally if you close your eyes.

13. Blood Ceremony - The Eldritch Dark

Blood Ceremony has done it again, The Eldritch Dark is a magical album that you can not miss.

14. Fuzz - Fuzz

Ty Segall and with his new project Fuzz, grabs a high position with the selftitled debut, infectious hooks with psychedelic muscle and soul.

15. Monster Magnet - Last Patrol

Dave Wyndorf has crept from his hiding place and is finally on two sturdy legs, which can be witnessed on Load Patrol, what a comeback.

16. Cult Of Luna - Vertikal

The post-metal Swedes released a masterpiece, a record that belongs in every record shelf.

17. In Solitude - Sister

70s rock influences with feelings of post-punk and gothic spices grace the skin of "Sister". An excellent album.

18. Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - Mind Control

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats has been one of the most notable cult phenomenon in recent times and with Mind Control, they have expanded their repertoire for another trip, a dreamy excursion with clear influences from the heavier side of 1970s rock.

 

19. Port Noir - Puls

The Swedish Semi Progressive band Port Noir with their debut Puls, they released a grand emotional album, where a high musicality and a well balanced softish tone in contrast to the hard, they really made ​​a fine début.

20 . Motörhead - Aftershock

Aftershock is an album that really flirt with the greatness that the bands trade mark is know for.

Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats - 13 Candles

Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day in Western superstition. The fear of Friday the 13th has been called friggatriskaidekaphobia (Frigga being the name of the Norse goddess for whom "Friday" is named in English and triskaidekaphobia meaning fear of the number thirteen), or paraskevidekatriaphobia a concatenation of the Greek words Paraskeví (Παρασκευή, meaning "Friday"), and dekatreís (δεκατρείς, meaning "thirteen") attached to phobía (φοβία, from phóbos, φόβος, meaning "fear"). The latter word was derived in 1911 and first appeared in a mainstream source in 1953.

Enough of this, we light a candle and listen to some music that fits in. Todays tune "13 Candles" combines catchy chorus, great guitar riffs and great Hammond organ melodies, it sticks to your head like glue and it reflects everything that this band is delivering. The tune is taken from the Cambridge-based psychedelic doom band "Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats" breakthrough album "Blood Lust"

The record is conceptual and tells the story of a drug addict and sadistic killer who is performing satanic rituals sacrificing women.
