Lostpray - Deep Depression

"Deep Depression" is single by Ukrainian Progressive/Thrash/Heavy Metal band LOSTPRAY taken from the bands latest EP "Priestianity" (2018).

LOSTPRAY is based in Odessa, Ukraine, the group is comprised of Turkish and Ukrainian musicians who freely mix their own cultural influences with the power of Metal to create a fiercely individuality that sets them apart from their peers. The latest LOSTPRAY release is "Priestianity", a compelling set built upon challenging compositions, unpredictable storytelling, tense atmosphere, aggression, Eastern-Western combinations, and overflowing energy that instantly pulls listeners into its world. The first single from the EP, "Deep Depression", is a potent six-minute track that perfectly captures LOSTPRAYs uncommon style.

The members of LOSTPRAY are Burak Gundogdu on Vocals and Guitars, Nikolay Dovgopolov on Drums, and Vyacheslav Babienko on Bass. The band began in 2013 and tracked its first album, "That’s Why", an eight-song effort that met with considerable success, in 2014. After a hiatus that allowed the group time to more clearly define its sound and direction, the release of "Priestianity" has put LOSTPRAY back in the thick of the international Metal scene. The record shows how much great music can come from the mixing of cultures and ideas from different nations and is the most accurate expression of LOSTPRAYs artistic vision yet. The band is now focused on writing and recording new material, expanding its global fan base, and preparing to tour at the professional level. Anyone who has had their fill of sound-alike bands needs to find LOSTPRAY today and get reminded of what actually original-minded music is all about.

Today's tune "Deep Depression" is taken from the EP "Priestianity", the music video was originally filmed in a couple different studios in Odessa. The idea was to make a video with a dark, moody atmosphere which will make the impression even sharper.

Annihilator – Twisted Lobotomy

Canadian Heavy/Thrash Metal band ANNIHILATOR will release their sixteenth studio album, "For The Demented", on November 3. The follow-up to 2015's "Suicide Society" will be available in a limited-edition digipack with lenticular cover, a jewel-case CD, a twelve-inch, 180-gram colored vinyl in gatefold and digital download.

This will be the band's first studio album with bassist Rich Hinks, who co-produced and co-engineered the album, and drummer Fabio Alessandrini.

Over a year after the release of Suicide Society (2015), ANNIHILATOR began working on a follow-up album. Founding member and guitarist Jeff Waters told Metal Wani in December 2016,

"On the next one, the changes I'm gonna make… I only said two things. I've got all these people telling me, 'You've gotta go back to this album,' or that album, or that album, or that album. 'You've gotta do this,' 'You've gotta do that.' So what I do is I block it out. But I've decided that I'm going to not worry about catchy, commercial choruses — 'commercial,' as in you remember it, where you intentionally make that chorus the most important part of the song and you want people to remember that one every time. That kind of is the opposite of what I used to do in the earlier days. In the earlier days, I would go, 'I don't care about the chorus being the main part; I want the whole song to be cool.' So therefore the choruses were not as commercial or catchy. And they remained heavy back then; the choruses would end up being heavy. Whereas on my "Suicide Society" record I just did, you could have a heavy song, but then you hit the chorus and you go, 'Woah, that's pretty mainstream stuff in the choruses.' And the other thing was, since I'm such a fan of so many bands, I let myself go a little bit on the last album with being too blatantly obvious with my influences and my musical loves as a fan. So you really heard a song that had a lot of the "Master of Puppets" era of music from METALLICA, and you really heard a MEGADETH song on there, and you really heard in my vocals some Hetfield and Mustaine-isms. And I think that was great, as a fan, to get it out, but I think I need to do more of my own thing on the next record."

In February 2017, Waters said that the sixteenth ANNIHILATOR studio album was being co-produced and co-engineered by bassist Rich Hinks, making it the "first time I've actually had somebody else in the studio since 1990 (Never, Neverland) working with me on stuff."

On September 12, 2017, it was announced that the album, now titled "For the Demented", will be released on November 3; more details on the album, including track listing and artwork, and the music video for "Twisted Lobotomy" were released on the same day. In support of "For the Demented", ANNIHILATOR (along with DEATH ANGEL) will open for TESTAMENT on the European Brotherhood of the Snake tour, which will take place in November and December 2017.

Since 1989, ANNIHILATOR have not stopped putting out records and touring the world. Despite the ever-changing climate of the metal world (and releasing a series of "different" metal records with various lineups along the way), Waters and company have consistently delivered strong albums since the band's debut, "Alice In Hell". Then there was 1990's best-selling "Never, Neverland", 1995's "King Of The Kill", "Schizo Deluxe" in 2005 and many other critically acclaimed releases up until "Suicide Society". The "under-the-radar" influence of this band, and Waters, has been felt throughout the entire realm of the metal world by a ton of well-known musicians and bands; that influence even stretching into the hard rock and instrumentalist genre.
Waters, in his usual humble manner, offers this in response: "ANNIHILATOR's music has been influenced by a good hundred of my favorite bands and musicians; you can hear their contributions to what I have been doing all throughout ANNIHILATOR's catalog. It's a bonus and an honor when bands and musicians I love mention that I had something to do with their playing or songs!"

ANNIHILATOR is:

Jeff Waters (vocals, guitar)
Fabio Alessandrini (drums)
Rich Hinks (bass)
Aaron Homma (guitar)

Todays tune "Twisted Lobotomy" is the first tune taken from the upcoming album "For The Demented" to be released in November, enjoy!

Metallica - Spit Out the Bone

Today it's time again for the annual hard rock evening that is always on eve of Twelfth Night, but during some travel problems the evening got moved forward 1 day, thanks guys. As always it's with some great excitement to hear what the other participants have made up for this event and see what others thinks of my view of things :) This is something I am looking forward to every year, it's really great to hang with some good friends, drink beer and listen to music, what else could be better. Even if this evening will be kinda laid back for me, as I have a gig tomorrow that I need to do pretty sober :)

So around next week I will play a few tunes from the night mixed with the stuff that I had on my tape.

One thing that I almost certain that will be played during this evening is a tune from METALLICAs latest album "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct" so why not pick a highlight from it to kick of this evening.

Today's tune "Spit Out the Bone". The Video was Directed by Phil Mucci, including a Cast: Mindy Kelly – Mindy, Ian Mackay – Max, Techno Monks – Chris Jai Alex, Gene Freeman, Will Greenburg, John Nania, Sam Tan, Phil Mucci - Poor Bastard Who Gets Zapped. Enjoy!

Metallica - Hardwired

METALLICA is back! One of the most famous, influential and arguably greatest metal band of all time is returning this November with a new album called "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct". It will be released (November 18, 2016) by the group's independent label Blackened Recordings. It will be Metallica's first studio album in eight years since "Death Magnetic" (2008), marking the longest gap between two studio albums in the band's career.

A long-awaited album where the hope is that they find the right sparkle to create something really good, and with their first single release it looks bright, see it below. The upcoming album is 80 minutes long, splitted on a three Vinyls or two discs and was produced by Greg Fidelman along with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. (The deluxe edition includes a third disc with “Lords Of Summer” and a bunch of “riff origins” tracks.)

Today's tune "Hardwired" is the first single from their 10th studio album, a blistering high-speed thrash throwback to their ’80s glory days. The song was released to the radio and for digital download on August 18, 2016. The song was first played live during the encore at US Bank Stadium, August 20th 2016.

“Shit outta luck! Hardwired to self destruct!”

Slayer - Decade Of Aggression

Decade of Aggression is a double live album by SLAYER, released on October 22, 1991 through Def American Records (later renamed to American Recordings) and produced by Rick Rubin. The album was recorded in three separate places on three separate dates. Its working title was "Decade of Decadence" until MÖTLEY CRUE registered the name. Three of the album's tracks were included in the box set "Soundtrack to the Apocalypse".

While touring on the "Clash of the Titans" tour to promote the 1990 studio album "Seasons in the Abyss", separate sections of the "Decade of Aggression" album were recorded on October 14, 1990, March 8, 1991, and July 13, 1991, however, AllMusic said that Rick Rubin's production "seems to be in terms of shaping the live sound to make it sound like this is all one gig."

“The main record was one and then we had other songs that we played a different night that we added to the package, and that was our first live experience, the first anyone could have SLAYER live unless it was a tape-trading kind of thing from way back when. So it was kinda cool, you know, we were proud of it”.
— Kerry King

The album does not feature an overdub of guitars. In The Rough Guide To Rock, it was said to be "intense" and "put studio favorites through the live shredder in a brutal and definitive manner." Most of the tracks were a selection from "South of Heaven", "Reign in Blood" and "Seasons in the Abyss". The album's total duration is one hour, twenty-five minutes, and twenty-eight seconds (85:28). Three of the album's tracks were included in the box set "Soundtrack to the Apocalypse".

The ultimate live album in the early history of the "Big 4" in american thrash. This is good old SLAYER. Old school thrash, kick ass. Overall it's fast deadly rhythms, with some aggressive vocals and intense drumming in one intense package that is a blast.

Today's tune "Angel of Death" is the opening track on the American thrash metal band SLAYERs 1986 album "Reign in Blood". The lyrics and music were written by SLAYER guitarist, Jeff Hanneman and are based on Nazi physician Josef Mengele, who conducted human experiments at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. "Angel of Death" led to the band facing accusations of Nazi sympathizing and racism throughout their career.

Despite the controversy surrounding the song and its contribution to the delay in the release of Reign in Blood, "Angel of Death" is featured on all of SLAYERs live albums and DVDs and has appeared in several movies. The song was well received by critics; Steve Huey of AllMusic described it as a "classic".

Slayer - You Against You

In SLAYERs song "You Against You" vocalist Tom Araya screams "Your perfect world is ending this day, So what? I wouldn't have it any other way." And so, from the very first frame of the band's "You Against You" music video, the gore, the violence, the projectile-blood-spewing and the carnage begins and just never ends.

"You Against You" is the prequel to "Repentless," Slayer's brutal 2015 video filmed at an L.A. prison that has logged nearly 7.5 million YouTube views. Like "Repentless," "You Against You" was directed by BJ McDonnell, stars Jason Trost "(Hatchet III") as Wyatt, the eyepatched rebel inmate, and tells the story of the circumstances that led to Wyatt's erroneous arrest and imprisonment.

SLAYERs performance of "You Against You" was shot deep in the heart of California's Mojave desert earlier this year in a graveyard of jets, airliners, and helicopters.

“After the ‘Repentless’ video,” said Slayer’s Tom Araya, “BJ delivers with ‘You Against You.’ Fucking awesome!!!”

Today's tune "You Against You" is taken from the 12th studio album "Repentless". Video is Directed By BJ McDonnell, Produced By Felissa Rose, Co produced by Harrison Smith and Christian Ackerman, Action Producer Don Lee, Director Of Photography Eric Leach, Editor Ed Marx, Makeup FX by Alterian (Tony Gardner and Adrienne Lynn)

Megadeth - Holy Wars... The Punishment Due

Today we present category seven (The song that represents the musical best decade) taken from the annual hard rock evening that always occur on eve of Twelfth Night.

Category seven, felt pretty easy. I was debating with myself whether the music I listen to had its starting point. Was it the 60's or 70's, yes that is the question that went around in my head so I had to make it more simple, so the style that I got caught by at the first was during the 70's when BLACK SABBATH kicked my ass with their heavy rock, LED ZEPPELIN with the beautiful rock and AC/DCs more classical rock, that was great times indeed. So my pick for the evening was the 70's tune "Supernaut", by British heavy metal band BLACK SABBATH. The tune is taken from the fourth studio album "Vol. 4", released in September 1972.

Today's tune is taken from the 90's, a choice made by Magnus Ö who think the 90's is the best musical decade.

This years line up of categories and my choices:

1. Joy of Play and Swing. - CLUTCH "Noble Savage"
2. Best finish/end song. - D-A-D "Laugh 'n' A ½"
3. In The Shadow Of Big Four. - TESTAMENT "Over The Wall"
4. Good although they sing in Swedish. - SKRAECKOEDLAN "Cactus"
5. Best song from the 2015 best album. - TRIBULATION "Melancholia"
6. God Save The Queen. - ACCEPT "London Leatherboys".
7. The song that represents the musical best decade. - BLACK SABBATH "Supernaut"
8. Best right now.

Here are a few of the other tunes that was played during this evening.

ANCIIENTS "Raise The Sun"
TESTAMENT "Down For Life"
VERSE "The New Fury"
OZZY OSBOURNE "I Dont Know" (Live)
D-A-D "Sleeping My Day Away"
BLACK SABBATH "After Forever"
MEGADETH "Holy Wars"
AMULET "The Gauntlet"
IRON MAIDEN "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"

Today's tune "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" is the opening track of thrash metal band MEGADETHs 1990 album "Rust in Peace". The song has an unusual structure, shifting at 2:26 after an acoustic bridge by Marty Friedman to a different, slower and heavier section called "The Punishment Due", before speeding up again. The entire song is commonly referred to as "Holy Wars".

Tomorrow we present the last category "Best right now".

Annihilator - Snap

The Canadian metal veterans ANNIHILATOR have released a new video "Snap" from the band's fifteenth studio album "Suicide Society", which was released on September 18. This is the first album to feature guitarist and bandleader Jeff Waters performing lead vocals on all tracks since 1997's Remains, due to the departure of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dave Padden in December 2014. It also marks the return of bassist Cam Dixon, who was in the band from 1994 to 1995, as well as the addition of new guitarist Aaron Homma, who are credited with providing backing vocals in the liner notes. On this album, Jeff Waters handled all instrumental work in the studio apart from the drums, played by returning drummer Mike Harshaw.

Q5 - Steel The Light

New week, a new "The Record Of The Week"

Today, we'll throw in a classic, we jump back to 1984!

1984 was a year that I spent every single penny I earned on records. What a year 1984 was, albums like "Perfect Strangers" with DEEP PURPLE that got shit loads of play time back in the days. "Heaven's on Fire" with KISS & "Jump" with VAN HALEN was on the radio and at the disco. JUDAS PRIEST release the heavy smoker "Defenders of the Faith" that got me into a wish for a leather jacket that I never got, as it was to hard for a kid to wear :/ and METALLICAs "Ride the Lightning", the two records that my friends and I played air guitar to. MARILLION releases "Fugazi" an album that I bought several years later, It was to odd for my taste back then. Other albums that I think I got during this time was "Thunder Seven" with TRIUMPH, "Out of the Cellar" with RATT, "Slide It In" with WHITESNAKE, "In Rock we trust" with Y&T, "Love at First Sting" with SCORPIONS, "Powerslave" with IRON MAIDEN, "The Warning" with QUEENSRYCHE, "Last In Line" with DIO, "Stay Hungry" with TWISTED SISTER and "Condition Critical" with QUIET RIOT. Another odd but interesting record that found it's way to my home was the selftitled album with W.A.S.P. , this was the scariest album that I had at that time.

Anyway, there was certainly more of good records that I found during this year. However, none of the above, is what I had in mind this time. But a little more unusual bird like the Seattle rock band Q5 and the record "Steel the Light". I know many will say WHAT?

"Steel the Light"is an remarkable album. It contains nine fabulous songs over 37 minutes, which end before you even realize it. The album opens up with a real blaster "Missing In Action", heavy, thrashy and melodic with excellent riffs from Floyd Rose and Rick Pierce. The vocals from Jonathan K. is fabulous, high range and incredibly accurate. Already here the band sets the standards on what to expect. The second song ''Lonely Lady'' is a melodic tune of very catchy galloping riffs. The third track is the title track, the album Opus with a guitar riffs that you will get u goose bumps. The solo is epic and your cheek will fall to the ground like a mountain cliff that loses it's grip and falls down. The album just continues on the same line "Pull The Trigger" with its smart guitar riffs and solos working together with a high range vocals. "Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady" is more old school rocker from the 70's but with the 80's metal with a very high standard, so easy, so good. "In the Night" slows down the tempo, here does the vocals got a more mid range with finger flick on a blues rock base. "Come and Gone" is the album ballad, a heartbreaking tune with guitars that dig deep in you and vocals that almost puts your eyes in tears. The two final tunes "Rock On" and "Teenage Runaway" turns up the tempo and ends the record with the banner at the top!

To summarise "Steel the light" is a album that YOU absolutely need this in your collection, period!

Q5 was formed in 1983 by members of two popular Seattle bands: vocalist Jonathan K and guitarist (famous guitar tremolo inventor) Floyd Rose from THE C.O.R.E. and Rick Pierce (guitar), Evan Sheeley (bass) and Gary Thompson (drums) from TKO. Q5 released its first album, "Steel The Light", in 1984, receiving immediate critical acclaim, and landing them tours with TWISTED SISTER, Y&T and LITA FORD. The success of "Steel The Light" led them to eventually sign with Polygram/Squawk for their 1985 sophomore release "When The Mirror Cracks", but due to personal differences, the original lineup dissolved shortly after this release.

In 2014, Q5 was asked to perform at Sweden Rock Festival, a performance that the band had agreed would be a "one-off" show, but at the completion of the performance, it was obvious that this was not an ending, but merely a beginning. Upon returning to Seattle, the band secured drummer Jeffrey McCormack (formerly of HEIR APPARENT, FIFTH ANGEL) again, and guitar virtuoso Dennis Turner to complete the lineup. Reformed Seattle rockers Q5 have inked a deal with Frontiers and a new album will see the light next year, can't wait.

Bands such as GREAT WHITE, WOLF, OCTOBER 31 and many others have covered songs from the album, and fans are writing from all corners of the globe, eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the Q5 story... That chapter begins NOW!

The innovative guitarist Floyd Rose is otherwise best known for being the inventor of the locking tremelo system, the now indispensable device that ensures the guitar stays in tune even after the heaviest of tremelo use.

This double locking system was notable for its ability to stay in tune despite repeated use and wide variations in pitch. His design was later recognized on Guitar World 's "10 Most Earth Shaking Guitar Innovations."

Todays tune "Steel The Light" is as a "classic" and a "must-have in any metalhead's collection."

Obscure Infinity - Beyond Spheres And Time

Death Metal from Germany is not so common in the Power Metal country as Germany are, DEBAUCHERY and SODOM are a few well know acts. OBSCURE INFINITY are pretty new to me even if they have existed since 2007. OBSCURE INFINITY are playing a very fast and melodic form of Death Metal. The main influences is from more traditional Death Metal scene where Swedish bands like GRAVE and DISMEMBER are the mains but following their very own path and add some slight Thrash and Black Metal influences to their compositions.

OBSCURE INFINITY was founded in the beginning of the year 2007 by Jules (vocals) and Stefan (guitar). After a short while Kalle (bass) and Oli (drums) joined forces. The course was clear from the beginning, following the vision to create authentic music without any modern-day influences and absolutely trend free. All band members are enthusiastic metal maniacs and their devotion and passion for metal is easily recognizable in their music.

Since the release of the demo OBSCURE INFINITY did several live shows and was working on new material for its debut full-length “Dawn Of Winter”. Early 2009 OBSCURE INFINITY joined forces with Obscure Domain Productions. In August 2010 „Dawn Of Winter“ was finally released. The Split Single „United In Death“ with Profanal from Italy came out on July 2011. After this the band was working for their second full length and did several live shows (for example the NRW Deathfest together with ASPHYX, ENTRAILS, KRYPTS and many more). In december 2011 OBSCURE INFINITY recorded the songs for the second album "Putrefying Illusions". The album was released mid 2012 by Obscure Domain Productions. OBSCURE INFINITY went through some line-up changes. Sascha substituted Flo on the guitar and O. (MEMBARIS, CHAOS INVOCATION) replaced Oli on drums. The band played more cool live shows, for example at Party San Open Air or at Kill-Town Death Fest and found in F.D.A. Rekotz a new label home. After a split 7” with DEATHRONATION the band recorded three new songs that should be released on three different splits. The first one will be with HUMILIATION from Malaysia via Brutal Art Records. The next one will be with FUNERAL WHORE and the last one with WOUND. The 3rd. full lenght album named "Perpetual Descending Into Nothingness" released January 16th 2015.

"Perpetual Descending Into Nothingness" was recorded at Noiseschmiede Lahnstein, mixed and mastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple Of Disharmony (DESASTER, MAROON, PURGATORY etc.). Cover Artwork by Juanjo Castellano (HARM, BLASPHERIAN, REVEL IN FLESH, PUTREVORE etc.).

The band is more than proud of the result says Guitarist Stefan:

"Yet the journey isn´t over but found its interstation in "Perpetual Descending Into Nothingness“, an album that required our total devotion and dedication. Liberated from stereotyped thinking we took one step further into the dark corners of ourselves and created a more somber, atmospheric, brutal and musically ambitious piece of art. It may sound overblown but we are totally satisfied with the result in all issues considering songs, sound and artwork. Without a doubt our by far best work up to date.“

Current Line Up:

Jules - Vocals
Stefan - Guitar
Sascha - Guitar
Kalle - Bass
O. - Drums

Todays tune "Beyond Spheres And Time" is taken from the 3:rd album "Perpetual Descending Into Nothingness“, enjoy!

Tribulation - Strange Gateways Beckon

Monday and a new week, which means it's time to introduce this week's "Record Of The Week".

This week we have a Swedish death metal band from Arvika, that formed in 2005. "Record Of The Week" is the glorious third album "The Children of the Night" by TRIBULATION.

That TRIBULATION have been exceeded themselves with a magnificent release as this amaze me, holy moses what a album. With the new record the band continue to embrace their signature sound and shows a really wide spectrum of guitar tones and harmonies. The MORBID ANGEL influence that haunted previous albums have slightly changed to more traditional NWOBHM style and classic heavy metal, but also goth and some progressive rock form the 70's. The aggression and occult overtones are still intact and with Johannes gruff monotone vocals the dramatic parts gets life to the songs. In these days it’s hard to stand out, but Tribulation has achieved just that.

A quick summary: You need this!

"The Children of the Night" was released on April 20 in Europe, recorded, mixed and produced by Ola Ersfjord in several different Swedish studio locations (Studio Gröndahl, Honk Palace, Studio Cobra, Necromantic Studios and The Resting Stone) as well as mastered by Chris Common at Twin Hills Mastering in El Paso, Texas. The cover art was painted by guitarist Jonathan Hultén, who also created the band’s previous album covers.

Line-Up:

Johannes Andersson - Bass, Vocals
Adam Zaars - Guitars
Jonathan Hultén – Guitars
Jakob Ljungberg – Drums

Discography:

The Horror (2009)
The Formulas of Death (2013)
The Children of the Night (2015)

Many diffrent version is out on this masterpiece, like an exclusive limited box+shirt bundle available at Nuclear Blast's online store and an exclusive 2LP version (transparent clear vinyl, ltd. to 200) offered at High Roller Records' online store

Onslaught - 66Fucking6
