Canadian Heavy Metal/Thrash Legends ANNIHILATOR released their explosive seventeenth studio album, "Ballistic, Sadistic" on January 24th via Silver Lining Music.

The band’s previously released videos for "I Am Warfare", "Dressed Up For Evil" and "Psycho Ward".

Produced, engineered, and mixed by Waters, "Ballistic, Sadistic" was recorded at the brand new, state of the art, Watersound Studios UK earlier this year with additional engineering and editing by bassist Rich Hinks and mastering by Maor Appelbaum (FAITH NO MORE, HALFORD) at Maor Appelbaum Mastering in California.

"Ballistic, Sadistic" was released in limited-edition digipak, vinyl, and digital formats January 24th, 2020 via Silver Lining Music.

A name that should need no introduction in the metal world, ANNIHILATOR was forged in Canada in late 1984. Since then, the band has been touring and releasing records, selling millions of albums to date, nonstop, for over thirty years. Cited by bands like MEGADETH, PANTERA, DREAM THEATER, CHILDREN OF BODOM, LAMB OF GOD, OPETH, TRIVIUM, and so many more as having an influence on their music, Jeff Waters and ANNIHILATOR have continued to tour the world, year after year, whilst consistently putting out high-quality true-metal music. Founding guitarist, vocalist, producer and principal songwriter Jeff Waters of the track: "Armed To The Teeth" is simply about how one should never judge a book by its cover. If you poke a bear with a stick, abuse or bully someone or treat a living creature with disrespect, be prepared that it might turn around and retaliate, far beyond what you ever thought possible. The retaliation could be ballistic and sadistic. Whether it’s about a music industry jerk bullying an artist or about a kid being bullied on the way home from school; karma will catch up to you and bite you in the face. Someday. Although this is a very heavy and aggressive song, we chose to represent the subject by clips of a teen getting bullied; a serious, common and relevant subject to touch on… and we thought it more appealing than showing this 53-year-old musician taking shit from someone in the music biz!

Annihilator – Twisted Lobotomy

Canadian Heavy/Thrash Metal band ANNIHILATOR will release their sixteenth studio album, "For The Demented", on November 3. The follow-up to 2015's "Suicide Society" will be available in a limited-edition digipack with lenticular cover, a jewel-case CD, a twelve-inch, 180-gram colored vinyl in gatefold and digital download.

This will be the band's first studio album with bassist Rich Hinks, who co-produced and co-engineered the album, and drummer Fabio Alessandrini.

Over a year after the release of Suicide Society (2015), ANNIHILATOR began working on a follow-up album. Founding member and guitarist Jeff Waters told Metal Wani in December 2016,  

"On the next one, the changes I'm gonna make… I only said two things. I've got all these people telling me, 'You've gotta go back to this album,' or that album, or that album, or that album. 'You've gotta do this,' 'You've gotta do that.' So what I do is I block it out. But I've decided that I'm going to not worry about catchy, commercial choruses — 'commercial,' as in you remember it, where you intentionally make that chorus the most important part of the song and you want people to remember that one every time. That kind of is the opposite of what I used to do in the earlier days. In the earlier days, I would go, 'I don't care about the chorus being the main part; I want the whole song to be cool.' So therefore the choruses were not as commercial or catchy. And they remained heavy back then; the choruses would end up being heavy. Whereas on my "Suicide Society" record I just did, you could have a heavy song, but then you hit the chorus and you go, 'Woah, that's pretty mainstream stuff in the choruses.' And the other thing was, since I'm such a fan of so many bands, I let myself go a little bit on the last album with being too blatantly obvious with my influences and my musical loves as a fan. So you really heard a song that had a lot of the "Master of Puppets" era of music from METALLICA, and you really heard a MEGADETH song on there, and you really heard in my vocals some Hetfield and Mustaine-isms. And I think that was great, as a fan, to get it out, but I think I need to do more of my own thing on the next record."

In February 2017, Waters said that the sixteenth ANNIHILATOR studio album was being co-produced and co-engineered by bassist Rich Hinks, making it the "first time I've actually had somebody else in the studio since 1990 (Never, Neverland) working with me on stuff."

On September 12, 2017, it was announced that the album, now titled "For the Demented", will be released on November 3; more details on the album, including track listing and artwork, and the music video for "Twisted Lobotomy" were released on the same day. In support of "For the Demented", ANNIHILATOR (along with DEATH ANGEL) will open for TESTAMENT on the European Brotherhood of the Snake tour, which will take place in November and December 2017.

 
Since 1989, ANNIHILATOR have not stopped putting out records and touring the world. Despite the ever-changing climate of the metal world (and releasing a series of "different" metal records with various lineups along the way), Waters and company have consistently delivered strong albums since the band's debut, "Alice In Hell". Then there was 1990's best-selling "Never, Neverland", 1995's "King Of The Kill", "Schizo Deluxe" in 2005 and many other critically acclaimed releases up until "Suicide Society". The "under-the-radar" influence of this band, and Waters, has been felt throughout the entire realm of the metal world by a ton of well-known musicians and bands; that influence even stretching into the hard rock and instrumentalist genre.
Waters, in his usual humble manner, offers this in response: "ANNIHILATOR's music has been influenced by a good hundred of my favorite bands and musicians; you can hear their contributions to what I have been doing all throughout ANNIHILATOR's catalog. It's a bonus and an honor when bands and musicians I love mention that I had something to do with their playing or songs!"

All Star Jam - Highway Star

Saturday, not really sure what to play that have a relationship to Denmark and D-A-D, but I found a pretty cool thing on Youtube that I need to share.

The boat that runs the "70000 Tons of Metal" festival, here is a clip from 2015 with a All Star Jam performing DEEP PURPLES "Highway Star" The band is introduced by Jeff Waters, the main man from ANNIHILATOR. The band consists of Danny Needham (VENOM) on Drums, Nalle Pahlsson (THERION) on Bass, Alex Beyroth (PRIMAL FEAR) on Guitar, Jacob Binzer (D-A-D) on Guitar and Doogie White (Yngwie Malmsteen) on Vocals.

Annihilator - Snap

The Canadian metal veterans ANNIHILATOR have released a new video "Snap" from the band's fifteenth studio album "Suicide Society", which was released on September 18. This is the first album to feature guitarist and bandleader Jeff Waters performing lead vocals on all tracks since 1997's Remains, due to the departure of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dave Padden in December 2014. It also marks the return of bassist Cam Dixon, who was in the band from 1994 to 1995, as well as the addition of new guitarist Aaron Homma, who are credited with providing backing vocals in the liner notes. On this album, Jeff Waters handled all instrumental work in the studio apart from the drums, played by returning drummer Mike Harshaw.

ANNIHILATOR's touring lineup includes drum monster Mike Harshaw, who continues on for his fourth year with the band, new guitarist Aaron Homma, and bassist Rich Hinks.

Annihilator - No Way Out

Annihilator is a Canadian thrash metal band founded in 1984 by vocalist, guitarist and bassist Jeff Waters. They are the highest selling heavy metal group in Canadian history, having sold 2 million albums worldwide, although most of their sales have been generated outside of the band's home country. Their first two studio albums, Alice in Hell and Never, Neverland, are considered masterpieces of Canadian heavy metal.

Since its inception, Annihilator has released thirteen studio albums and has undergone many line-up changes. The band now consists of two official members, with Waters on both guitar and bass and Dave Padden, who joined in 2003, as a rhythm guitarist/vocalist. Since 2007, Waters and Padden have assembled touring musicians to perform with them. Their latest studio album, Feast, was released in 2013.

Bonus disc - "Re-kill"

The deluxe ECO-book version is set to feature a bonus disc, featuring re-recordings of 15 of the band's most well-known songs (in addition to a 3D cover) from prior to Dave Padden being Annihilator's vocalist. Jeff Waters stated in an interview that the inspiration for the re-recordings was based on the fact that many of Annihilator's current fans ("more than 50%") are kids between the ages of 18-25 years. Many in this age group, according to Waters, either are unaware of or else have had trouble obtaining Annihilator's earlier records. Hence, the re-recordings are designed to bring Annihilator's earlier material to the newer generation of Annihilator fans.

Annihilator - Alison Hell

Jeff Waters visited Sweden last week and conducted a clinic for Epiphone, where he released his signature guitar. It was a very interesting meeting in which Jeff mixed a type of stand-up komedian with heavy guitar riffs and some songs from his own archives.

He talked a lot about Canada and Ikea, his influences and how he started playing the guitar by listening to Metallica and Slayer (which is his favorite band). How his guitar playing has been influenced by these heroes, were his riffs are coming from.
It was actually really entertaining and it turned up some tricky questions. Songs like The Trend, Alison Hell and Phoenix Rising Among others were played.

He also asked the audience to wish for the Annihilator for upcoming Sweden Rock Festival, almost felt like they were already ready for the festival. Finished the clinic to hand out Epiphone T-shirts and sign various stuff that fans and other loose people had with them.

Todays tune "Alison Hell" is taken from the first album "Alice in Hell", released in 1989. The song is based on a true story about a young girl in Montreal, Canada, Alice who lives in fear of seeing the boogey man. Her parents ignore her pleas for comfort, calling it a phase. Her fear only increases as time goes on. She becomes so fearful that she reaches full insanity.

Dream Theater - On The Backs of Angels

 

Recently released "A Dramatic Turn of Events", the new album they do progressive metal titans Dream Theater. After the departure of founding member and drummer Mike Portnoy in September 2010 gave the band auditions in an attempt to find their new drummer. Mike Mangini was the one who drew the longest drum stick. Mangini has been involved bands Annihilator, Extreme and James Labrie in the past. The new album was released on September 13, 2011, in addition will they do a world tour and will visit Sweden and Hovet, 25 January 2012.

"On the Backs of Angels" is the opening track on the new album, "A Dramatic Turn of Events", is also the first single release. In less than nine minutes long, is it more of a traditional song lengths of tunes with Dream Theater. The new single has many similarities to earlier albums, both heavy, technically impressive, in other words a well-written song. The new drummer Mike Mangini has a complete command of the drums and it's hardly that I miss Portnoy. Should be very interesting to see Mangini's interpretations of Dream Theater wide backcatalog during this upcoming world tour.
