Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein

Sunday, time for a classic.

As it's Halloween atm I though we play something that is a bit scary. So why not "Frankenstein", the instrumental tune by THE EDGAR WINTER GROUP from their 1972 album "They Only Come Out At Night".

The song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week in May 1973, being replaced by Paul McCartney's "My Love". It sold over one million copies. In Canada it fared equally well, reaching number 1 on the RPM 100 Top Singles Chart the following month. That same month the song peaked at number 18 in the UK Singles Chart. The following month, the song peaked at number 10 in Mexico. The song also peaked at number 39 in West Germany, remaining on the chart for one week. The single was certified gold June 19, 1973, by the RIAA.

The song's title, coined by the band's drummer Chuck Ruff, derives from the fact that the original recording of the song was much longer than the final version, as the band would often deviate from the arrangement into less structured jams. The track required numerous edits to shorten it. The end result was spliced together from many sections of recording. Winter frequently refers to the appropriateness of the name also in relation to its "monster-like, alumbering beat". (One riff was first used by Winter in the song "Hung Up", on his jazz-oriented first album Entrance. He later tried a variation on it, "Martians" on the 1981 Standing on Rock album.)

Winter played many of the instruments on the track, including keyboards, saxophone and timbales. As the release's only instrumental cut, the song was not initially intended to be on the album, and was only included on a whim as a last-minute addition. It was originally released as the B-side to "Hangin' Around", but the two were soon reversed by the label when disc jockeys nationwide in the United States, as well as in Canada, were inundated with phone calls and realized this was the hit. The song features a "double" drum solo, with Ruff on drums and Winter on percussion. In fact, the working title of the song was "The Double Drum Song". The single was one of the few No. 1 chart records to include an extended passage featuring the ARP 2600 synthesizer. The group performed the song, with Rick Derringer on guitar, on The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1973.

The song was actually performed three years previously when Edgar was playing with his older brother Johnny Winter at the Royal Albert Hall in 1970. This rare recording was released in 2004 as one of several live bonus tracks included in the two-disc Legacy Edition CD of Johnny Winter's Second Winter.

Today's tune "Frankenstein", taken from the album "They Only Come Out At Night", enjoy!

Little Barrie & Malcolm Catto - Rest In Blue

Born in a Dalston basement, "Quatermass Seven" by Little Barrie & Malcolm Catto could only have been produced in the colourful streets of sprawling London. Driven by the three contributing musicians’ 25-year plus journey through multiple genres and inspirations, what you hear within its seven tracks is the ‘60s British blues explosion colliding with a mid ‘70s Bronx block party; Haight Ashbury acid rock mashed up with Manchester’s summer of love circa ’88; or a prime slice of UK freakbeat broadcast from New York’s jazz underground, emerging kicking and screaming above London city tower blocks.

This meeting of minds between guitarist Barrie Cadogan, bassist Lewis Wharton and drummer Malcolm Catto represents a re-birth of sorts for Little Barrie, with these their first recordings since 2017’s critically received Death Express album, and the sad and untimely passing of friend and drummer Virgil Howe. Following a difficult period of soul searching for both Barrie and Lewis, they made the decision to record again: knowing they weren’t looking for a replacement for Virgil, or to replicate past glories, alleviated some of this inherent pressure. “I’ve never seen the point in making ‘Death Express’ or ‘Surf Hell’ again, and we said quite clearly to Malcolm that we wanted to do something different”, states Lewis. “I just saw it as me, Barrie and Malcolm running through some ideas – as the mixes evolved and shaped up, it made sense that it became the next Little Barrie record.”

What "Quatermass Seven" delivers is a darker, deeper and more expansive set of grooves, layered with frazzled and flawless guitar lines and flowing melodies, as well as pointing toward a future of exciting new musical opportunities. “Still here, so fine, just a little darker state of mind” sings Cadogan on ‘Steel Drum’: words which sum up hope in times of uncertainty, whilst (maybe) unintentionally offering a perfect description of the music contained herein.

Today's tune "Rest In Blue", taken from "Quatermass Seven", released October 16, 2020

Here's a video of Barrie, Lewis & Malcolm with a guest appearance from Shawn Lee, playing "Rest In Blue". Enjoy!

Neil Young / Crazy Horse - Song Of The Seasons

Neil Young & Crazy Horse recently released a new song called “Song Of The Seasons” as the first single from the band’s upcoming album "Barn".

As previously reported, Barn is a 10-track collection that will be released on December 10. It was recorded “this summer under a full moon, in a restored off-grid 19th century barn high up in the Rockies.” Barn will be available on CD, vinyl, cassette and digital formats, and as a deluxe box set.

In his new message, Young explains, “All the songs in our Barn film are the originals. Crazy Horse is seen playing each (almost) song. All performances are of our original recordings used on the album. Since we play ‘live’ in the Barn, you are seeing exactly what happened that day as we made Barn the album.”

“Barn is very special,” Young wrote to fans on the Neil Young Archives. “It rock. It rolls…I wish it was out now. It’s got songs that are part of these times.”

He adds, “Not a lot of records are recorded live anymore, so it should be interesting and fun for you. These are not contrived little snips. They document what happened.”

10 new songs that capture the raw, idiosyncratic rock and roll spirit and lyrical beauty that epitomizes a classic NYCH collaboration. Recorded this summer under a full moon, in a restored off-grid 19th century barn high up in the Rockies, the Horse was right at home and the album’s stunning love songs, reflective ballads and powerhouse rockers naturally burst into life.

Produced by The Volume Dealers – Neil Young and Niko Bolas, the album will be available on vinyl (special edition), CD, cassette and Deluxe Box set. The special edition vinyl contains 6 behind-the-scenes photographs from the "Barn" sessions. Available as a numbered first pressing, the Deluxe Box set contains the special edition LP, CD and Blu-ray of the film Barn.

The film of the same title - "Barn" captures this legendary band in their element - in the wild, their easy humor, their brotherhood, their humanity, and of course, the music, live, recorded in their unique spontaneous way. A Blu-ray of the film directed by Daryl Hannah, will be available as a stand-alone release.

All Greedy Hand Store purchases of "Barn" (LP, CD, cassette, deluxe boxset) come with a free hi-res digital audio downloads from the Xstream Store © at NYA.

Helmet - In The Ditch

Thursday, time for a cover.

"In The Ditch" is a tune written by the English post-punk band GANG OF FOUR, the song was released in 1981 on the second album "Solid Gold". The album was issued in an CD expanded version by the EMI Records and Infinite Zero Archive/American Recordings labels in 1995, which added the songs from "Another Day/Another Dollar" EP.

GANG OF FOUR is an English post-punk band, formed in 1976 in Leeds. The original members were singer Jon King, guitarist Andy Gill, bass guitarist Dave Allen and drummer Hugo Burnham. There have been many different line-ups including, among other notable musicians, Sara Lee, Mark Heaney and Gail Ann Dorsey. After a brief lull in the 1980s, different constellations of the band recorded two studio albums in the 1990s. Between 2004 and 2006 the original line-up was reunited; Gill toured using the name between 2012 and his death in 2020. In 2021, the band announced that King, Burnham and Lee would be reuniting for a tour in 2022 with David Pajo on guitar.

Today's version is made by the American alternative metal band HELMET. It was released as the fourth single to hail from the upcoming album "The Problem Of Leisure" A Celebration of Andy Gill and GAND OF FOUR. This is HELMETs first new song since 2016.

"The Problem Of Leisure" is a double album of tracks written by Andy Gill and GAND OF FOUR, all newly reinterpreted and recorded by artists whose own work was enriched by listening to GAND OF FOUR. The album features songs from across GAND OF FOURs 40-plus year career, each individually chosen by the artists who covered them. Previously released cuts from the LP include the Tom Morello and Serj Tankian version of “Natural’s Not In It.”

Gill, who died in early 2020, was a fan of HELMET from their early days and had hoped to collaborate with them on a future music project.

The HELMET singer/guitarist concluded his statement saying, “This band changed me. Thank you Andy, Dave, Hugo & Jon.”

Enjoy today's tune "In The Ditch", taken from the "The Problem Of Leisure" album.

Eldovar - From Deep Within

ELDER and KADAVAR have announced their upcoming collaboration record, a concept album recorded during late winter/spring 2021. A statement from ELDER follows:

“Some of you have probably noticed a few clips of us playing with our friends in KADAVAR in their own Robotor Studios this spring. Over the past years, ELDER has been split up across continents, with three members in Germany and one in the US – a difficult situation exacerbated by lockdowns and travel restrictions. In times of this social and creative isolation, our Berlin-based members teamed up with Lupus, Tiger and Dragon to write and record some music together. We’ve been tight-lipped about this project so far, but today we’re happy to finally shed some light on our creation.

What began as an idea to just jam with a ‘let’s-see-what-happens!’ mentality became a trip on its own, and after months of digging through jam sessions, writing and re-writing parts and developing a plan not just for an improvised record but for a true concept album, we’re proud to give a first glimpse of ‘ELDOVAR: "A Story of Darkness & Light"'.

ELDOVAR: A bond between KADAVAR and ELDER. “A Story of Darkness & Light”: An intimate, touching, billowing, roaring piece of music, a sublime manifesto of musical freedom that we paradoxically owe a horrible pandemic.

The Damned - Keep 'em Alive

Punk legends THE DAMNED did release thier “The Rockfield Files” EP last year and it has been lying around waiting to be publish, dunno why I waited so long but here it is.

Back in 1980 and 1981, The band had gone to Rockfield Studios, located in a small village in Monmouthshire, southeast Wales, for a series of sessions that eventually led to the release of some of their career-best music, such as “The Black Album”, “Friday 13th” EP, and Strawberries.

In 2019, THE DAMNED returned to Rockfield studios to record their followup material to 2018’s "Evil Spirits" album.

During the recording of the Rockfield Files EP, THE DAMNED’s lineup included three out of the four members that were at the original Strawberries-era sessions: David Vanian, Captain Sensible, and Paul Gray. There was also Monty Oxymoron on keyboards and Pinch on drums. Unbeknown to the band, however, this was to be the last recording with the longtime drummer Pinch, who departed after The Damned’s legendary Night of 1000 vampires concert at The London Palladium last Halloween, where Dave Vanian dressed up as Nosferatu and led a cover of Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”.

For the first time, Tom Dalgety (ROYAL BLOOD, RAMMSTEIN, GHOST) took over the producer duties for the EP. He also mixed the tracks at his studio in Bath.

The EP will be available in black and psychedelic swirl limited-edition vinyl. “The Rockfield Files” EP was released on October 16, 2020 via Search And Destroy/Spinefarm.

Today's tune “Keep ‘Em Alive”, a track featured on “The Rockfield Files” EP, with an accompanying music video shot from the perspective of a bee going about its business. “Bees are essential for pollinating crops, and in turn, human survival; 17 species are reportedly endangered in the U.K. — keep ’em alive!” Enjoy!

Green Lung - Black Harvest

Monday, new week and it's time for us to present this weeks "Record Of The Week".

This London-based five-piece heavy rock band GREEN LUNG, released their debut album "Woodland Rites" in 2019, read the review (https://tuneoftheday.blogspot.com/2019/04/green-lung-woodland-rites.html) and have been praised highly here at Tune Of The Day. A band that has been denied to tour around the world and support their debut album, they just had to sit this over and during that time they worked on how to make a greater follow-up record, "Black Harvest", now it's here, steaming fresh directly from the press. Serval spins over the weekend and I'm completely floored. "Woodland Rites" was a remarkably good record, with "Black Harvest" we get everything from the previous one and some more, well thank you, this is even better than its predecessor, across its forty-three minutes and ten tunes the band serves us heavy rock with classic 70s psychedelia with some SABBATH infused riffs in a bigger and more epic atomsphere, marvelous harmonies with a more sharper and deeper picture, all this is perfectly balanced and I can only lift my hat and say thank you!. Excellent mixed by Wayne Adams. Recorded at Giant Wafer Studios and St Padarn's Church, Llanbadarn Fynydd

The album opens up with an introductory number in "The Harrowing", an occultist spoken word from a priest standing in the deep forest of England. Slowly it builds up in an atmospheric and bombastic intro that makes up the field for the "Old Gods" to enter the scene. Huge riffing by Scott Black and big powerful rhythm section signed bassist Andrew Cave, organist John Wright, and drummer Matt Wiseman along with the unique vocals by Tom Templar. Followed by another powerful tune "Leaders Of The Blind", standout organs, big riffs, catchy melody, and an amazing guitar solo peaks this track. "Reaper's Scythe" serves is with some beautiful guitars in the intro that transformed into a real heavy stomper with a lot of energy that bursts out from every conceivable corner. "Graveyard Sun" is another beauty that with its laidback, softish start shows its fragile side, which is incredibly beautiful. The tune changes shape a bit here and there, where the cork on the bottle blows and the tempo increases but soon returns to the slightly more withdrawn way. The title tune "Black Harvest" follows the same path as the intro and gives us a powerful instrumental jam. Heavy riffing opens up "Upon The Altar", marvelous guitar playing with a doomish but still yet very fresh sounding. "You Bear The Mark" is a very melodic piece where the beginning part almost gives a wink to the Swedish GHOST. "Doomsayer" follows the same road, magic organs, heavy riffing that almost reminds me of later PURPLE, marvelous vocals. The album ends with an elegant piece of "Born To A Dying World" that wraps up this grandiose monster of a release. With masterly handed songwriting, I'm very impressed with the end result, and it glads me to see that GREEN LUNG has a bright future ahead. And just like with "Woodland Rites", "Black Harvest" will earn its spots on the best-of lists when it's time to summon up the year.

Sum: If there is anything to worship these days then "Black Harvest" could be the best option.

Duran Duran - The Chauffeur

Sunday, time for a classic.

"The Chauffeur" is a song by English band DURAN DURAN, taken from their second album "Rio", originally released worldwide on 10 May 1982.

DURAN DURAN are an English new wave band formed in Birmingham in 1978. The group was a leading band in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US in the 1980s. The group was formed by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and bassist John Taylor, with the later addition of drummer Roger Taylor, and after numerous personnel changes, guitarist Andy Taylor (none of the Taylors are related) and lead singer Simon Le Bon. These five members featured in the most commercially successful line-up.

Like several other songs on Rio, "The Chauffeur" contains sound samples thanks to Nicks Fairlight CMI - the world's first commercial sampler. According to a question on Ask Katy, the sample was taken “from a nature record that the band found. The man is talking about ‘insects in the grass’". No track or album under this name has yet been discovered.

Today's tune "The Chauffeur" was directed by Ian Emes and is one of two non-single tracks on Rio to have its own music video. None of the band appear in the video at all. It is a moody black-and-white piece inspired in part by the film, The Night Porter, and the photography of Helmut Newton. Two women dress themselves carefully in lingerie and drive through the streets of London towards a rendezvous with each other in an abandoned multi-storey car park. The instrumental end piece of the song was accompanied by a topless Perri Lister performing a sensuous dance - clearly an homage to Charlotte Rampling's topless "Dance of the Seven Veils" in The Night Porter.

Amuri - Masa

The pop poem of the Finish baroque pop band AMURI from Amuri, Tampere. The band was founded by young and talented songwriters Mikko "Rock" Siltanen (EXPLOSIVES, TALMUD BEACH) and Kalevi Suopursu (GUGGENHEIM PROJECT). Later, keyboardist Anna Pesonen (SAMANNA) and drummer Sebastian Krühn (TAMPO, LAURA MOISIO) joined.

In the native language they tell the story of thier dreams. Like on today's tune "Masa" where Mikko goes to the tavern every day with his three friends to taste the number one beer. One day he examines the instruments of the dance orchestra KALEVA and ponders aloud: what would it be like to play in a band? The video is dedicated to the 51-year-old Salhojankatu Pub.

Today's tune "Masa" is taken from the self titled debut album, which was released by Helmi Levyt on August 28, 2020. The Video was directed by: Kalevi Suopursu & Sami Sänpäkkilä. Description and color definition: Sami Sänpäkkilä. Editing: Kalevi Suopursu.

Kadabra - Settle Me

"Ultra" is the debut album by the American psychedelic rockers KADABRA.

The band hails from Spokane, Washington U.S., delivers the eerie psyche crawl of acts like DEAD MEADOW and the heavy fuzzed riff grime of BLACK SABBATH. In the fall of 2020, they tracked their debut album "Ultra" with Dawson Scholz, and it did see the light on September 17th via Heavy Psych Sounds.

In 2020, a year wracked with cultural dissent and a global pandemic, fellow musicians and long-time friends Garrett Zanol and Ian Nelson decided to create a band that would pull influence from a few of their favorite musical acts. After retaining the talents of their favorite local drummer Chase Howard, the group got to work on writing an album that illustrates their current climate.

KADABRA is:
Garrett Zanol (Vocals/Guitar)
Ian Nelson (Bass)
Chase Howard (Drums)

Today's tune "Settle Me" is the second single taken from the KADABRA debut album "Ultra". KADABRA comments the tune: "Settle Me" is the last song we wrote for the album "Ultra". The song rides the steady swampy flow of psychedelia while racing into a heavy, fuzzed turbulence."

Shinedown - Simple Man

Thursday, time for a cover.

"Simple Man" is the last track on side one of LYNYRD SKYNYRD's debut album, "(Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)".

The song is one of LYNYRD SKYNYRD's most popular songs. Since the song became available for digital download, it has become LYNYRD SKYNYRD's third best-selling digital song after "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird." It has sold 1,333,000 copies in the U.S. as of November 2013.

"Simple Man" is written in the key of A minor/C major, though all guitars were tuned down a half step, effectively making it G# minor/B. The song begins with an acoustic arpeggiated chord sequence made up of the chords C major, G major and A minor (though with the tuned-down guitars, effective progression of B major, F# major and G# minor). This intro is accompanied by a bass line and cymbals before the drums and vocals come in for the verse. Lyrically the song is about a mother talking to her child about life, inspired by the passing of Ronnie Van Zant's grandmother.[2] The chorus of the song includes electric guitars imitating sections of the arpeggiated intro progression. The guitar solo is performed by Gary Rossington.

Today's version is made by SHINEDOWN, "Leave A Whisper" paved the way for Shinedown's successful second album, "Us And Them", and was re-released on June 15, 2004, to incorporate a cover version of LYNYRD SKYNYRD's "Simple Man".

Goat – Queen Of The Underground

"Headsoup" is a new compilation that deepens the legend of mysterious Swedish psych collective GOAT even further. Collecting rarities from across band's celebrated career, including standalone singles, B-sides, digital edits and two enormous brand new tracks, it's a globetrotting acid trip of a record that's even bigger in its scope than their acclaimed studio LPs.

From the incendiary heavy psych of their earliest work, like debut B-side 'The Sun And Moon', to the serene 'Requiem'-era alternate take 'Union Of Mind And Soul', to the simmering menace of their latest material, it's a record as multifaceted as Goat themselves, packed with detours in every conceivable direction. Taking in jazz-flute solos, pounding Afrobeat rhythms, ferocious desert blues, drifting Ethio-jazz, this is, as the name of GOAT's first album made clear, 'World Music' in its most complete form, a sound unrestrained by genre boundaries. Yet the band are anything but lazy appropriators. They approach their forebears with upmost reverence, articulating a celebratory cultural cross-pollination. And what about these two new tracks? 'Fill My Mouth' is a scuzzy psychedelic funk knockout, the sleaziest thing the band have ever recorded. 'Queen Of The Underground', meanwhile, is truly herculean, a swaggering psychedelic powerhouse of the very highest order. Sometimes dark and heavy, at others joyous and beautiful, like Goat themselves 'Headsoup' is mysterious, and constantly shapeshifting, difficult to properly pin down but constantly enthralling. Almost a decade since they first emerged from the depths of Scandinavia, there is still no other band on earth that sounds quite like them.

Today's tune "Queen Of The Underground" is taken from "Headsoup", enjoy!

The Drippers - Time for Some Action

Swedish action-rock trio THE DRIPPERS, hailing from Gothenburg have released their new single ”Time For Some Action”. THE DRIPPERS is influenced by the shitty Rock N Roll of classic bands like THE NEW BOMB TURKS, GLUECIFER, THE HELLACOPTERS, TURBONEGRO and THE STOOGES.

THE DRIPPERS brings you the dirty high octane garage punk ’n’ rock where the new single ”Time For Some Action” is the first taste of THE DRIPPERS’ upcoming sophomore album, which follows their acclaimed 2019 debut "Action Rock".

THE DRIPPERS did a lot of rehearsing, pre-producing and writing prior to entering Sunlight Studio to record thier second album. "Time For Some Action" was just an idea we had started jamming on a couple of times, but in the car going to the studio William said "we're gonna record it for the album". So when they rehearsed and arranged it in the studio with Tomas Skogsberg (aka the Overlord of distortion) and recorded it while still learning the song. It always gives an extra edge to do it that way, you just let your instinct take over. It had a good groove and a commanding title, so it felt appropriate to choose it as the first single. Last in, first out! Boogie!

Today's tune ”Time For Some Action” taken from the upcoming new album and the single is out now on all streaming platforms via The Sign Records. Music video by Max Ljungberg, maxljungberg.com, enjoy!

Doctor Smoke - Dreamers And The Dead

Monday, a new week and it's time for us to present "Record Of The Week".

The Ohio rockers DOCTOR SMOKE is a new discovery for me, but after a spin of the new album "Dreamers And The Dead", I just screamed hell yeah, finally something really good in the stream of thousands of releases! This is high fueled classic heavy metal in the best possible way, a real slap in the face!

"Dreamers And The Dead" is the second album release by the band, seven years after their debut "The Witching Hour". DOCTOR SMOKE plays an eclectic mix of styles, where classic heavy metal is the base, mixed up with some Occultish hard rock, NWOBHM, dark heavy rock and melodic metal that the band mixes between during this ride over 10 marvelous tunes that clocks in at almost forty three minutes. The album was Mixed by Mike Ofca at Innovation Studios, Steubenville, Ohio. Mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios, Örebro, Sweden. Cover art by Adam Burke.

DOCTOR SMOKE is:
Matt Tluchowski - Vocals/Guitar
Steve Lehocky - Lead Guitar
Jeff Young - Bass
Cody Cooke - Drums

"Dreamers And The Dead" is a really nice ride where the four-piece Ohio rockers servers us some infectious songcraft. The vocalist and guitarist Matt Tluchowski has a great voice with a good range and vibe. The lead guitarist Steve Lehocky adds some excellent riffing and hooks. The bass licks are mixed well and are nice executed by Jeff Young that works well with the drummer Cody Cooke’s fills and well played drums.

The album opens up with "Reborn Into Darkness", and gives us a mix of 70's hard rock with a modern feeling. The following tune "These Horrid Things" is a lovely piece with some fuzzy guitars and some marvelous solos. Somehow Alice Cooper comes to mind, dunno why but the end result is really good. The tempo slows down a notch when "Waking Dreams" takes on. Feels at the start more to a standard filler until halfway true where the magic happens and the guitars are let loose free on the highway. Excellent playing by the lads. "Out Of Time" is back on track again with some more classic metal where the time zone could be somewhere in the eights. "Been Here Forever" is a really catchy and groovy piece, love it. "What Lies Beyond" follows up in a softer way, heavy bass, light guitar riffs, powerful vocals, and a really cool mid-part with some old-school progressive vibe. "Dreamers And The Dead", time for the title tune to make its entrance, high fueled metal, catchy and doomy. "Vexed" is a groovy rocker, where MASTODON echos in the atmosphere. "The Rope" follows the same path, feels modern but catchy, light progressive guitar playing with an Eddie Van Halen wailing. The album closes up with "This Hallowed Ground", a great rocker that summons up all the turns we have got served during this ride with DOCTOR SMOKE. The tune has some really nice guitar work, cool tempo changes, great vocals, and a marvelous rhythm section that ends this album really well. DOCTOR SMOKE really shows some great musical craftmanship and songwriting skills. There is not a bad thing about the album at all, the only downside is the band name, hey DOCTOR SMOKE, you guys could at least come up with something more clever. Anyway, this is an album that I highly recommend giving a listen to.

Sum: "Dreamers And The Dead" is a great Dark Heavy Metal album.

Today's tune "This Hallowed Ground", taken from "Dreamers And The Dead", released September 3, 2021, through Ripple Music.

Tētēma - Wait Till Mornin

"Wait Till Mornin" is single taken from the album "Necroscape" from Mike Patton (FAITH NO MORE, MR. BUNGLE) and the Australian electro-acoustic composer, Anthony Pateras, modernist electro-acoustic rock proposition Tētēma. Joined by violinist Erkki Veltheim and drummer WIll Guthrie in quartet formation.

Anthony Pateras describes the song as sounding “Peter Gunn on methampetamine with RD Burman as co-pilot, being pursued by Madlib through an early 80s London industrial estate. This was one of the first songs we wrote for the new album, and probably played a big part in convincing us doing another would be a good idea. It is the only song on the record with a drumless chorus; like a lot of our music, the drama is upside down."

"Necroscape" is the second album from the modernist electro-acoustic rock proposition, seeing the outfit continuing to employ the wayward orchestrations and arresting physicality of their 2014 debut "Geocidal" with a renewed melodic language which grounds its multi-colored twists and turns in hallucinatory lyricism.

Today's tune "Wait Till Mornin" is the second single from "Necroscape", released April 3, 2020, enjoy! Video directed by Sabina Maselli (http://sabinamaselli.com)

Deaf Rat - Like A Prayer

Thursday, time for a cover.

"Like a Prayer" is a song by American singer Madonna from her 1989 fourth studio album of the same name. Sire Records released it as the album's lead single on March 3, 1989. Written and produced by Madonna and Patrick Leonard, the song heralded an artistic and personal approach to songwriting for Madonna, who believed that she needed to cater more to her adult audience. Thematically, "Like a Prayer" speaks about a passionate young girl in love with God, who becomes the only male figure in her life.

"Like a Prayer" is a pop rock song and incorporates gospel music. It features background vocals from a choir and also a rock guitar. The lyrics contain liturgical words, but they have been interpreted by some people to have dual meanings of sexual innuendo and religion. "Like a Prayer" was acclaimed by music critics and was a commercial success worldwide. In the United States, it was Madonna's seventh number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for three consecutive weeks and topped the record charts in many other countries, including Australia, Canada, Spain, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Rolling Stone listed "Like a Prayer" among "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

Today's tune is by the Swedish Hardrockers DEAF RAT, and have created a great hard rock cover of MADONNA "Like A Prayer" where they serves us with some massive guitar riffs and strong melodies combined with a mega hit. The band did release the tune on the 24th of September 2021 and are getting prepared as supporting act of JUDAS PRIEST 2022!
