Danny Bryant - Prisoner

The English blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Danny Bryant is ready to set the release of the brand new double album, “BIG: Live in Europe”, set to be released April 21st.

"Big" features 11 re-workings of Bryant’s own tracks, along with covers of Otis Rush’s Groaning The Blues and Robert Johnson’s Stop Breaking Down.

The tour saw Bryant play with a nine-piece big band, featuring keyboards, rhythm guitar and a full four-piece horn section.

Bryant says: “This is something I have always wanted to do. We are mixing the new with the old – modernised and re-presented versions of my own work in a classic ‘big band’ format, with a couple of blues classics alongside. I’m thrilled with the result.”

He was born and grew up in Royston, Hertfordshire, England. At the age of 15, he began playing the guitar and became a professional guitar player at the age of 18. Since then he has toured all over the world and appeared on bills alongside a number of notable artists such as Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana, Joe Cocker and Mick Taylor.

The Picturebooks – The Rabbit and the Wolf

THE PICTUREBOOKS are two bikers that creates a steely, enticing blues-saturated heavy rock, with Fynn playing on obscure vintage guitars he bought from thrift shops around the world, while Philipp beats a drum set that consists of the largest possible drums that he hits with heavy duty felt beaters. The set has no cymbals whatsoever and instead includes a few self-made percussion instruments with huge chains, bells, and more. It's fresh out of the grittier end of Nashville, or that’s what you’d think, if they weren’t actually German. Expect motorbikes, heavy chains, wild-eyed blues and guitars that sound like they were cooked up in a tin shed. In a very good way.

The German duo featuring Fynn Claus Grabke [vocals, guitar] and Philipp Mirtschink [drums] performs

Today's tune "The Rabbit and the Wolf" is produced by THE PICTUREBOOKS (Fynn Claus Grabke and Philipp Mirtschink). Filmed by Claus Grabke, Jim Gray, Gabriel Mann, Ben Ott, Danny Koetter and Dirk "The Pixeleye" Behlau. Edited by THE PICTUREBOOKS and Claus Grabke.

"Nothing in the video for ‘The Rabbit and the Wolf’ is staged, we just filmed what happened on tour or when hanging around with our friends, riding choppers, skating etc. Some of it was filmed in Europe and some in the US. The lyrics in the song kinda describe us and the way we feel when being on tour, so it seemed appropriate to use mostly tour-footage for the video. Most of the smaller locations in this video are what really made this band. People believed in us and gave us the chance to play, even before we were signed. We kept coming back till the place was finally packed. We owe these people a lot!"

Heavy Tiger - I Go for the Cheap Ones

HEAVY TIGER is a three piece chic band apart from Stockholm, Sweden. The outcome of one pure mission in the mind of guitarslinger & singer Maja Linn: to form a Killer Rock 'n' Roll Band! Great songs, uncompromising live performances and true ambitions were the ingredients to build it all upon. No band member was allowed to be short of dedication, or talent for that matter.

Luckily this crazy rock 'n' roll heart eventually found her sisters in arms. Drummer Astrid Carsbring and Sara Frendin on bass, both truly good musicians, were just the right people to team up with. They soon became close friends as well and HEAVY TIGER was a fact. The year was 2010 and the girls turned 17.

Kingnomad - Mapping The Inner Void

Monday, New Week, it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

"Mapping The Inner Void" is the latest release by the Swedish quartet KINGNOMAD.

Initially formed in 2014 by best friends Jay and Marcus while hanging out in Jay's studio basement jamming on BLACK SABBATH grooves and downing bottomless beers, the pair soon stumbled onto a riff of their own making. Over the space of one evening evolved the song "Lucifer Is Dead" and with that one track followed a newfound purpose. Setting off on a quest to forge music from the influence of hard and heavy 70s rock, psychedelic flights of fancy and the hauntingly ethereal worlds of H.P. Lovecraft, the main driving force behind KINGNOMAD was to have as much fun as possible.

Recruiting the only two people that they knew were qualified enough to orchestrate a killer rhythm section, into the fold came Andreas on drums and Maximilian on bass. With the quartet retreating back to Jay's basement - newly christened the "The Room of Doom" - material flowed like a never-ending stream of occult energy. Songs were written, parts recorded and almost as if by magic they found themselves propelled forward in time, primed and ready to release what they had created.

Closely courted by Ripple Music they were asked last year to contribute to Chapter III in the labels ongoing underground series The Second Coming of Heavy, with Michigan rockers BONEHAWK. And with the alchemy of creativity burning fervently in their minds, a new batch of original songs were recorded for their debut album shortly afterward.

KINGNOMAD:

Mr Jay – Vocals, Lead Guitar, Piano/Organ
Andreas – Drums, Percussion
Marcus – Guitars
Maximilian – Bass, Backing Vocals

"Mapping The Inner Void" is an interesting journey in the land off dusky doom rock. A draw of the occult colours music, clean vocals with a poppish attitude make you refer to their fellow countrymen in GHOST, but the main inspiration must be BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, where the psychedelic and clear bluesy melody are mixed between heavy SABBATH riffs.

KINGNOMAD have made a very solid record that have been on repeat for sometime now. The Vinyl is on the way and should land soon, I hope. Was going to wait with the review until the Vinyl had a chance to spin for a few lapse, but I can't wait, eager that I am.

The album starts with the amazing "Lucifer’s Dream", baffled jazzy intro before the guitars jump in and the tune kicks off, slow and trailing melody with a melodic beautiful singing high up on a pedestal, great track to another amazing tune, "Nameless Cult" where the tempo turns up slightly, heavy riffages and vocals that makes you lose your composure, a very melodic piece. "Whispers From R’lyeh" is a beautiful trippy tune, clear bass line, loose guitar in a desert way. "The Witches Garden" is a bluesy rocker, the vocals are pretty trippy and far-out, but very well mixed. The Cow bells calls in "The Green Meadow Part 1 & 2", a cloudy tune with doomy roots, distorted fuzzy guitars flows like steam wind on the sunburnt desert. "She Wizard" straight forward SABBATH riffage with a popish chorus and heavy organs. The album ends with the melodic life drainer tune "The Waiting Game".

"Mapping The Inner Void" was released on 24 February 2017.

Sum: "Mapping the Internal Void" gives you a record to remember, a dusky doom rock with qualitative retro flirts, should not be missed.

Today's tune "Nameless Cult", taken from "Mapping the Internal Void", enjoy!

Accept - Balls to the Wall

Sunday, time for a classic!

"Balls to the Wall" is a song by German heavy metal band ACCEPT. The song was released as the lead single from their 1983 fifth studio album of the same name. The anthemic title track is the album's best known song, and became ACCEPTs signature song, for which a music video was shot that received American airplay on MTV.

"We've always been interested in politics and in human rights and things like that, so a lot of the lyrics that we had in those days, and to the end actually, were dealing with human rights, for instance, and that's really what 'Balls To The Wall' is all about. 'One day the tortured will stand up and kick some ass!'"

Says guitarist Wolf Hoffmann.

The Video was filmed in January 1984 in London, the song's music video is comprised of clips of the band performing the song onstage intercut with scenes of a wrecking ball taking down a clock tower and scenes with fans of the band headbanging against the wall of the tower. Later during the buildup to the final chorus, the fans march through the ruble of the tower, presumably heading toward the stage where the band is performing. At the end of the video, singer Udo Dirkschneider rides the wrecking ball into the tower and takes out the front doors of the building it stands upon. When he discussed the scene with songfacts.com, Dirkschneider explained he was apprehensive about riding the ball because of the cold, wintry conditions on the day of the shoot, but decided to do it in the end. "It was very cold in London, near the airport", Dirkschneider said, "And especially when I had to step on this wrecking ball. I said, 'Please, no, I don't want to do this!' But in the end, I was young so I said, 'Okay, here we go.' But it was freezing like hell". The video version of the song was edited down to four minutes and twenty eight seconds from the five minutes and forty four seconds of the album version.

Today's tune "Balls to the Wall", here is the official Video form 1984, enjoy!

Singer Ian Gillian, drummer Ian Paice, bassist Roger Glover, guitarist Steve Morse and keyboardist Don Airey can be seen entering a Nashville recording studio to commit the track to … well, we used to say tape, but it looks like a hard drive is what’s actually being used here.

1. "All I Got Is You" (album version)

KSMB - Ond Saga

Monday, New Week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

"Ond Saga" is a brand new album by the reunited Swedish punk rock band KSMB.

KSMB (Kurt-Sunes med Berit) was a Swedish punk rock band from 1977 to 1982. The young band members grew up and lived in the suburb Skärholmen outside Stockholm.

"Ond Saga" is undoubtedly one of Sweden's most important punk band returns, a band that have always been hated by journalists and loved by their fans.

After a highly acclaimed performance before 20,000 fans at the cheerful Bråvalla festival back in 2015, they notice that they have been missing. So in February 24 they release "Ond Saga" on Wild Kingdom Records.

"Ond Saga" is an an angry, energetic punk album that sounds exactly as it should, it's created by middle-aged men, who are neither ashamed of their age or try to hide it.

Sum: Even a old punker should dig this.

Tenth edition of KSMB embarks on an eight-date tour, see the dates below. Support on the tour is SIXTEN DISABLED, SIR REG and MATRIARCHY.

The tenth edition of KSMB consists of:

Gus Van Horn, Drums,
Sulo Karlsson, guitar,
Poppe Schubert, bass,
Mats Larson, guitar,
Michael Alonzo, vocals,
Steppan Guiance, vocals.

Att det finns ett helvete
Ja ett riktigt helvet
Att det finns ett helvete
Ja, för sådana som dej

Today's tune "Helvete" is a single release from the record and the first Video that was shoot. Directed by Billy Crammer, enjoy!

Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Johnny B. Goode" is a 1958 rock-and-roll song written and first recorded by Chuck Berry. The song was a major hit among both black and white audiences, peaking at number 2 on Billboard magazine's Hot R&B Sides chart and number 8 on its Hot 100 chart.

The song is one of Berry's most famous. It has been recorded by many other artists and has received several honors and accolades. It is also considered one of the most recognizable songs in music history. The song is ranked as number seven on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

Written by Berry in 1955, the song is about an illiterate "country boy" from the New Orleans area, who plays a guitar "just like ringing a bell," and who might one day have his "name in lights." Berry has acknowledged that the song is partly autobiographical and that the original lyrics referred to Johnny as a "colored boy", but he changed it to "country boy" to ensure radio play. As well as suggesting that the guitar player is good, the title hints at autobiographic elements, because Berry was born at 2520 Goode Avenue, in St. Louis. The song was initially inspired by Johnnie Johnson, the regular piano player in Berry's band, but developed into a song mainly about Berry himself. Johnson played on many other recordings by Berry, but Lafayette Leake played the piano on this song.

The opening guitar riff of "Johnny B. Goode" is essentially a note-for-note copy of the opening single-note solo on Louis Jordan's "Ain't That Just Like a Woman" (1946), played by guitarist Carl Hogan. Neither the guitar intro nor the solo are played at once. Berry played the introductory parts together with the rhythm guitar and later overdubbed the solo runs.

Berry has written three more songs involving the character Johnny B. Goode, "Bye Bye Johnny", "Go Go Go", and "Johnny B. Blues"; and titled an album, and the nearly 19 min instrumental title track from it, as "Concerto in B. Goode".

Personnel

Chuck Berry - vocals, guitars
Lafayette Leake - piano
Willie Dixon - bass
Fred Below - drums

Charles Edward Anderson "Chuck" Berry (October 18, 1926 – March 18, 2017) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. With songs such as "Maybellene" (1955), "Roll Over Beethoven" (1956), "Rock and Roll Music" (1957) and "Johnny B. Goode" (1958), Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive. Writing lyrics that focused on teen life and consumerism, and developing a music style that included guitar solos and showmanship, Berry was a major influence on subsequent rock music.

R.I.P. Chuck Berry, I hope you can do the Duckwalk upstairs.

Depeche Mode - Where's the Revolution

The British electronic band DEPECHE MODE released their fourteenth studio album "Spirit", released on 17 March 2017 by Columbia Records. It is the band's second album released under Columbia and was produced by James Ford. On 11 October 2016, the band announced on its website that it would embark on the Global Spirit Tour to support the album. The Summer 2017 European stadium tour will begin in Stockholm on 5 May 2017 and end in AB Rogers Place, Edmonton on 28 October, see all dates below.

DEPECHE MODE released their debut album Speak & Spell in 1981, bringing the band onto the British new wave scene. Original band member Vince Clarke (keyboards, guitar, main songwriter from 1980 to 1981), left the band after the release of the album, leaving the band as a trio to record A Broken Frame, released the following year. Today's tune "Where's the Revolution" is a song taken from "Spirit". It was released as the album's first single on 3 February 2017, on the 20th anniversary of "Barrel of a Gun". The cover art is made by Anton Corbijn. Single was premiered on the Polish radio Trójka - Polskie Radio Program III at midnight on 3 February. Enjoy!

Shinedown - How Did You Love

The Rockers SHINEDOWN from Jacksonville, Florida released "How Did You Love" in the last quarter of 2016, a tune that spins more than once every day on the radio, somehow it has hooked me and I can hear my self from time to time humming on the tune. The tune was released as their fourth single from their fifth studio album, Threat to Survival.

SHINEDOWN was formed by Brent Smith in 2001 after the dissolution of his prior band, Smith, still with a contract with record label Atlantic Records, recruited the band's original lineup of Jasin Todd as guitarist, Brad Stewart on bass, and Barry Kerch on drums. Consistent for the first two album cycles, a few lineup changes followed in the late 2000s, eventually stabilizing with Smith and Kerch, as remaining members alongside newcomers Zach Myers on guitar, and Eric Bass on bass. The group has released five albums: Leave a Whisper (2003), Us and Them (2005), The Sound of Madness (2008), Amaryllis (2012), and Threat to Survival (2015). SHINEDOWN has sold more than ten million albums worldwide.

A cool acoustic & piano version was released as a digital single, see the link below.

The fifth studio album "Threat to Survival" was released on September 18, 2015.
