Cracked Actor was originally a song from David Bowie's 1973 album, "Aladdin Sane". It was subsequently performed on the 1974 "Diamond Dogs" tour, and was included on the David "Live" album.
Like most of the older material played on that tour, "Cracked Actor" was rearranged to suit Bowie's new "Soul Man" direction. Some of the rearrangements fared better than others, in my opinion. In the case of Cracked Actor, I love what they did with it, especially when the performance aspect is seen.
"Cracked Actor (Live in Los Angeles 1974)" was lined up for Record Store Day.
The first is Cracked Actor (Live in Los Angeles 1974), the first official release of his Philly Dogs Tour show from September 1974, which partly featured in Alan Yentob’s BBC documentary, Cracked Actor. The tracks were mixed by long time Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti.
The full concert will be released on a triple vinyl with the last side reserved for an etching of the Diamond Dogs era Bowie logo. The packaging also features newly commissioned artwork with rare and unseen photographs. Never picked it up, which was stupid, hoping to find it on the way forward.

The show was comprised of a setlist of almost all the tunes from the new album, plus some of their biggest hits, a Zoom Q&A with fan club members, and set changes from plugged-in electric to sit-down acoustic. The 90-minute set was a runaway hit with THUNDER fans all over the globe.
THUNDER founders Danny Bowes and Luke Morley will also embark on a UK Tour in November 2021. The shows will be based around the bandmates’ new book "Danny & Luke – The First 50 Years (1971-2021)", which is released in September, and tell their story from when they first met at secondary school to achieving success with THUNDER, and right up to present day. "Gates Of Babylon" is a tune taken from the third studio album "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" by the British hard rock band RAINBOW, released in 1978 and the last to feature original lead vocalist Ronnie James Dio.
"Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" was recorded in April 1977 at a studio in Château d'Hérouville, France, featuring Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio and Cozy Powell. Keyboards were initially played on a session basis by former RAINBOW member Tony Carey, while bass parts were started by Mark Clarke. Clarke was soon dismissed, however, and the bass parts were recorded by Blackmore himself. By July 1977 seven tracks that ended on the album were in demo form. Recording was suspended while the band recruited Bob Daisley and David Stone and thereafter commenced extensive touring of Europe in the summer and fall of 1977. A return to the Château d'Hérouville studio in December saw the band finish the album and also yielded a final track, "Gates Of Babylon".
Although Daisley and Stone are listed on the album credits for their contributions, they joined the band partway through the recording sessions and only appear on three and four songs, respectively. Stone wrote parts of "Gates Of Babylon" but was never credited.
From 2004 to his death in 2010, Dio's solo shows featured a live version of "Kill The King", "Gates Of Babylon", and the title track.
Today's tune "Gates Of Babylon" is made by the American progressive metal band SONS OF APOLLO, they covered "Gates Of Babylon" on their 2019 CD/DVD box "Live With The Plovdiv Psychotic Symphony".
Friday, time boost up the evening with a real killer tune "Sinkhole" by the alternative country/Southern rock band DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS, taken from the
fourth album "Decoration Day", 2003.
The album was recorded mostly live over two weeks at Chase Park Transduction Studios in Athens, Georgia, and was produced by noted producer and former SUGAR bassist David Barbe. The album is the TRUCKERS' fourth, not including their live album "Alabama Ass Whuppin", following the critically acclaimed "Southern Rock Opera". The album features a more mellow, stripped down, and reserved sound compared to "Southern Rock Opera's" heavy hitting southern rock.
"Decoration Day" is the first album to feature Jason Isbell on guitar; he would record two more albums with the band before leaving to pursue a solo career in 2007.
The DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS are based in Athens, Georgia. Two of five current members (Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley) are originally from The Shoals region of northern Alabama and met as roommates at the University of North Alabama. The group also has roots in Richmond, Virginia

Alexis Korner, was a British blues musician and radio broadcaster, who has sometimes been referred to as "a founding father of British blues". A major influence on the sound of the British music scene in the 1960s, Korner was instrumental in the formation of several notable British bands including The Rolling Stones and Free.
Today's tune "I'd Rather Go Blind" is recorded live on 29. April, 1983. This superb concert performance celebrating the 25th anniversary of London s Marquee Club is a testament to Korner s talents as he is joined on stage by some famous friends including Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, and Ruby Turner. Enjoy!
Back in September last year, OSEES performed a blistering set out in the desert at Pappy & Harriet’s, which aired on the LEVITATION Sessions streaming series.
The live album is now being pressed on 3 limited vinyl pressings via The Reverberation Appreciation Society record label. OSEES and the label are donating 100% of proceeds to independent music venues. Music venues have been hit particularly hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, with many in danger of closing their doors permanently. Unfortunately some have already.
“Lots of old favorites and 7 never before performed live hits from the crypt recorded dusk till dawn in Pioneertown, California its raw and shreddy with a bit of elastic improvisation thrown in
and this is meant to be played loud”

"During this particularly hard year, it was a pleasure to work with our good friends over at Levitation and Pappy and Harriet's to reach out to some of our fans, if only for a fleeting hour. This is the proper plastic that came from that evening. We are trying to keep some of our favorite haunts, dives, glorious old venues and bars open through this triail, as it's obvious the lizards that make up the current administration have no real interest in extending any realistic help to struggling businesses.
Venues have been hit particularly hard by this and without them, there is no us....so this is a small token of appreciation and a grassroots effort to lend a helping hand in their time of need. Take care, be well and keep your eyes on the horizon."
Today's tune "Chem Farmer / Nite Expo" is from "Levitation Sessions", released October 9, 2020.
"I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free" is a jazz song written by Billy Taylor and Dick Dallas. Taylor's original version (as "I Wish I Knew") was recorded on November 12, 1963, and released on his Right Here, Right Now! album (Capitol ST-2039) the following year. His 1967 instrumental take was later used as the theme music for the Film... review programme series on BBC Television.
Taylor said: "I wrote this song, perhaps my best-known composition, for my daughter Kim. This is one of the best renditions I’ve done because it is very spiritual."
Enjoy today's tune with Nina Simone performs “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free” live at the Montreux Jazz Festival, 1976. This version can be found on the DVD and Album "Nina Simone Live at Montreux 1976". A widely played version was recorded by Nina Simone in 1967 on her "Silk & Soul" album.

"Muffin Man" is a song recorded live by Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention. It appears on his 1975 mostly live album "Bongo Fury" made with Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet). The song begins with studio-recorded spoken word lyrics delivered by Zappa and is followed by the chorus. The song was inspired by the traditional nursery rhyme, "The Muffin Man". The song closes the album, as well as the compilation Strictly Commercial, and was also used as a finale in concerts for many years afterward. The song's tone was compared to Jimi Hendrix's style. An alternative live version of "Muffin Man" appears on the compilation "You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 6." This song also appears on the 2009 album released by the Zappa Family Trust Philly '76, the 2002 album "FZ:OZ" and the 2003 album "Halloween".
Frank Zappa's son, Dweezil, along with his Zappa Plays Zappa (ZPZ) band, has featured "Muffin Man" on many concert tours. In 2010, they offered video footage of Frank Zappa playing "Muffin Man", along with isolated Frank Zappa guitar parts, so Dweezil and ZPZ accompanied live Frank Zappa and his extended guitar solo.
The meaning of the song was never fully explained by Frank Zappa, and as such there are many interpretations. The "Muffin Man" of the song appears to be a new kind of food aficionado, one who has taken his love for muffins on a scientific and semi-religious level. He can simply be considered an incarnation of gluttony. In a more generic way, he could represent fanaticism for a certain matter, that turns him away from other interests in life. There are some who have interpreted his loyalty towards his favorite food as a parody of the repetitive bourgeois life Zappa despised. In the chorus, an unnamed "girl" is introduced, who appears to have been in a love affair with the muffin man. This part can be interpreted as a record of her sexual delusions: her man was so focused in his research for the perfect muffin that he didn't give her pleasure ("no cries is heard in the night" probably refers to orgasms). Considering Zappa's typical sexual themes, it has been speculated that the song can be entirely read as a sexual innuendo.
In the Spring of 1975 Frank Zappa and his famed Mothers went on tour with long-time collaborator Captain Beefheart. The "mostly live" Bongo Fury came out in October of the same year. The album concludes with a bit of Zappa absurdity that would become a concert favorite in years to come.
"Muffin Man" consists of three separate segments, a studio-recorded preamble and a live chorus followed by an extended guitar solo. In it Zappa tells of the "Muffin Man", more a muffin scientist than an ordinary muffin enthusiast, who takes a break from his important work at the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen to expound of the glories of his most beloved pastry. Of course, "Muffin Man's" real greatness comes not from the amusing story, but from Zappa's transcendent guitar. Zappa was a legendarily talented and prolific artist who willed himself to the outer limits of popular music. He is remembered for his humorous, crude and confrontational lyrics, dedication to the rights of free speech, and contempt for the musical mainstream, but is sometimes overlooked as a guitar player. With a devilish Gibson SG, he produced some of the most frantically explosive guitar work ever committed to vinyl. "Muffin Man" stands as the greatest testament to his virtuosity.
The Video clip is filmed Live At The Palladium, NYC / 10-31-77. The Spotify link is picked from the live album "Helloween". Enjoy today's classic!
Friday, time to boost things up with some metal and the Austin rockers WAR CLOUD.
The classic heavy metal torchbearers embracing their recognizable dual guitar harmonies, proto-metal licks, hard-charging rhythms, adding heavy surges of British and Southern metal to inspire the fire. Electrifying audiences for 6 years, WAR CLOUD takes no prisoners with their own style of high energy heavy metal.
Today's tune "Give'r" is taken from the band's thunderous live album "Earhammer Sessions", it was released on May 22nd on Ripple Music. These recordings capture the evolution of the band blasting through the setlist they performed every night on their most recent European tour with a raw, honest, take-no-prisoners vibe. The clip of today's tune is Recorded in an old barn an hour outside Cologne, Germany. Some footage was also shot at Moto Guzzi Motoraduno in Lecco, Italy and Officine Sonore, in Vercelli, Italy, enjoy!
"Shame On The Night" is taken from the debut studio album "Holy Diver" by American heavy metal band DIO, released in 1983. Vocalist Ronnie James Dio had just finished his first tenure in BLACK SABBATH, whose drummer, Vinny Appice, he took with him to put together his own band. The roster was completed by his former bandmate from RAINBOW, Jimmy Bain, on bass and by the young guitarist Vivian Campbell, coming from the NWOBHM band SWEET SAVAGE. The album was acclaimed by the music press and is the band's most successful effort.
"Shame On The Night" is also released on the latest live album by DIO named "When Darkness Falls"
It's already 10 yrs since Ronnie James Dio left us, miss you man. So today's tune is in memory of him. Today's clip is filmed live in holland 1983. Enjoy!
For a band whose history as a band spans a little over two decades, Swedish indie rockers THE SOUNDS sure don’t sound like it. Resonating the excitement and dynamism of a band who are getting their very first hint of success, THE SOUNDS are gearing up for the release of their sixth studio album, "Things We Do For Love", a sweepingly majestic slice of Nordic indie rock that crackles and pops in all the right places.
The new album sounds really promising and exciting after hearing the two singles that have been released where the latest can be heard and seen below. The first single is the propulsive title track "Things We Do For Love" and now the second tune with the pulsating keys in "Safe And Sound" (which vocalist Maja Ivarsson describes as “having the courage to dive into something new as long as you got that special person right next to you”).
THE SOUNDS did perform a free "Safe And Sound” concert that was broadcast LIVE from the premier local venue The KB in their hometown of Malmö, Sweden on Friday April 17, 2020. They performing and debuting songs from their first new album in seven years entitled "Things We Do For Love" (out June 12, 2020), including their new singles "Things We Do For Love" and "Safe And Sound" (the latter single out on April 24th). The event was a full production concert of fan favorites from their previous six albums that “You can dance and rock out to while safely social distancing at home.”
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, THE SOUNDS have been forced to postpone their entire North American tour planned for April/May (rescheduled dates TBA), as well as all of their other concerts and festivals around the world. The band had been searching for a way to reach their large global fan-base while the world is forced to be staying in, so when their hometown venue The KB reached out and invited the band to come and perform there for a full production concert, they immediately started the discussions.
"Agent Orange" is the title tune from the third studio album by German thrash metal band SODOM, released on 1 June 1989 by Steamhammer and SPV.
It was their last album with guitarist Frank Blackfire (who would later join KREATOR) until his return to the band in 2018. The lyrical content delves deeply into Tom Angelripper's fascination with the Vietnam War, with a song dedicated to the ground assault aircraft AC-47 as well as the "Agent Orange" defoliant-inspired title-track. It was their first album to enter the German album charts where it reached number 36. "Agent Orange" sold 100,000 copies in Germany alone and marked the commercial breakthrough for the band. The song "Ausgebombt" was released on the EP Ausgebombt with German lyrics.
The album's liner notes carry the message: "This album is dedicated to all people – soldiers and civilians – who died by senseless aggressions of wars all over the world."
In March 2010, "Agent Orange" was re-released in a digipak with bonus tracks and liner notes containing lyrics and rare photos.
Line up!
Tom Angelripper – vocals, bass guitar
Frank Blackfire – guitars
Chris Witchhunter – drums
Today's tune is filmed Live at Wacken Open Air 2001, Enjoy today's tune!
A fine evening in June 2019 we resurrected a 33-year-old album that, in different ways, meant a lot to the band. A few weeks ago the remastered re-release of "That Makes One" is available.
One of the bonus tracks on this release is "Eye For An Eye", a "lost" track only released as a B-side way back when, but we played it live this summer and it turned out to be quite a killer. So here is a taste of what went on that day at Sweden Rock Festival, see the clip below.
EASY ACTION is a Swedish band from Stockholm that was first formed in 1981 by Pelle Almgren (ex-WARHEAD), Henrik "2 meter" Jermsten (ex-STOODES), Bosse Belsen (aka Zinny J. Zan of SHOTGUN MESSIAH/KINGPIN/ZAN CLAN - drums) and Björne Fröberg (bass, ex-WARHEAD). Bosse and Björne quit and were replaced by Ola "Skox" Andersson and drummer Urban "Ubbe" Sundbaum (ex-LUSTANS LAKEJER). Stranded Records became interested and released the single "Honcho Bongo". It didn't sell well and when the second single, "Om Jag Vore Kung", also failed the band split up. Skox and 2 meter formed PSYHEDELIC MONGO and Pelle Almgren started writing songs instead.
EASY ACTION was reformed as a glam metal band in 1982 by Kee Marcello and Alex Tyrone (aka Peo Thyrén). The two played together in the Swedish glam act NOICE when they decided to start the ultimate glam rock band, mixing their influences of 1970s glam with a punk/metal attitude. They met the original singer Bosse Belsen, now named Zinny J. Zan, at the Stockholm rock club Ritz and recorded his vocals on the first demos the very same night. Later the NOICE drummer Fredrik Von Gerber and the guitar player Danny Wilde joined the band. Bassplayer. Per-Olof Thyrén
In 1983 they got signed to the US major label Sire and became the first Swedish band ever to sign a worldwide record deal. After releasing two albums; "Easy Action" in 1983, and "That Makes One" in 1986, the band split up when their guitarist and bandleader Kee Marcello quit the band to join EUROPE, and went on to worldwide success with the band, selling over 30 million albums. Zinny J. Zan went on to join the Skövde glam metal band KINGPIN, later renamed SHOTGUN MESSIAH.
US hair metal superstars POISON used the chorus of EASY ACTIONs 1983 single "We Go Rocking" in their hit single "I Want Action" which led to the members of EASY ACTION suing the American band and winning a financial settlement in the case.
EASY ACTION reunited for a gig at the Sweden Rock Festival in 2006. This was followed by several shows in late 2007, including opening for TWISTED SISTER. In April 2008, the band went in the studio with producer Chris Laney to record a new studio album. In 2011 bassist Micael Grimm died.
On December 18, 2018 EASY ACTION was confirmed to play at the Sweden Rock Festival in 2019. The concert will include a live performance of the album "That Makes One" in its entirety, performed by the line-up that recorded it, including vocalist Tommy Nilsson and guitarists Kee Marcello and Chris Lind.
Today's tune "Eye For An Eye" is taken from 2020 re-release of the album “That Makes One”. The Video was filmed at Sweden Rock Festival, June 7, 2019. Video edited by Dragan Stankovic, Audio by Björn Höglund. Enjoy!
"Humble Stance" is a tune by the Canadian progressive rock band SAGA. Taken from the first studio album and was originally released 8 April 1978.
SAGA was are from Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Jim Crichton and Welsh-born vocalist Michael Sadler were the principal songwriters. The band had numerous line-up changes over the years. Ian and Jim Crichton were the only two original members who appeared on every album. Sadler appeared on every release, apart from the 2009 album "The Human Condition". Keyboardist Jim Gilmour was with the band from 1979, making his debut on the album "Silent Knight". Drummer Steve Negus performed with SAGA until 1986. The lineup was supplemented by many session musicians and live performers from the late 1980s to the late 2000s.
SAGA have been awarded gold and platinum albums worldwide and have sold more than eight million albums.
"Humble Stance" is one of only few songs on which Michael Sadler plays bass guitar, while Jim Crichton plays keyboard chords. As it is a regular part of the live setlis - unlike "It's Time" or "No Stranger", which also feature the same constellation - fans usually know that SAGA are going to start playing "Humble Stance" as soon as Sadler takes over Jim's bass guitar.
2017 marked SAGA's 40th anniversary. The band that has combined hard rock, progressive rock and pop like no other celebrated their anniversary with a tour around the globe, saying thank you and farewell to the fans… for now. Now, one year later, the exciting live recording "So Good So Far - Live At Rock Of Ages" sees its release. SAGA's performance video for the song "Humble Stance" can be seen below.
Featuring the most iconic of songs that SAGA has been known and loved for by fans for more than 40 years, "So Good So Far" delivers the epitome of the band's long and proud history — all recorded at the Rock Of Ages festival in Seebronn, Germany in 2017 on both audio and video. SAGA, the headliner of the evening played, an energetic one-and-a-half-hour set in front of thousands of festival goers, featuring the best of 21 SAGA studio albums with classics such as "On The Loose", "Humble Stance", "Wind Him Up" and "Don't Be Late".
SAGA has a very special history with the legendary Rock Of Ages festival in Seebronn, Germany. Founder Horst Franz invited us to perform for the very first one in 2006! Fast forward to 2017 — SAGA returns to the coveted Saturday night stage by special request, celebrating the band's 40th anniversary with our 'Final Chapter' tour".
Today's tune "Humble Stance" taken from the first self titled studio album. But I have picked the live version from "In Transit" for today. This clip is filmed live at Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Germany, December, 1981.

When THE NEAL MORSE BAND released their acclaimed "The Similitude Of A Dream" album (a progressive rock retelling of John Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress) back in 2016, it began a journey of epic proportions, with the companion piece The Great Adventure arriving in 2019. The band embarked on a worldwide tour in early 2019 & it was in Brno, Czech Republic that the band chose to film "The Great Adventour" 2019 - LIVE IN BRNO, the definitive record of the tour, as George explains:
“This was our first time playing there and this venue had a different look and vibe: the audience also turned out to be very energetic. They loved it!”
As Randy George explains: “After the Similitude tour, expectations were really high, and we had more people coming to these shows than ever before. People were really excited to see it, so we had to make sure that we delivered.”
Performing "The Great Adventure" flawlessly and in its entirety 47 times in 2019, Neal Morse (vocals, keyboards and guitars), Mike Portnoy (drums, vocals and audience cheerleading), Randy George (bass), Bill Hubauer (keyboards and vocals) and Eric Gillette (guitars and vocals) brought audiences to their feet night after exhilarating night: “The tour delivered every night. We never got tired of playing it, and it always paid off”, says George.

Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Randy George, Bill Hubauer & Eric Gillette
Neal Morse (born August 2, 1960) is an American singer, multi-instrumentalist, bandleader and progressive rock composer based in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1992, he formed the progressive rock band SPOCKS BEARD with his brother Alan and released an album which was moderately successful. In 1999, he joined former DREAM THEATER co-founder Mike Portnoy, FLOWER KINGS Roine Stolt and MARILLIONs Pete Trewavas to form the super-group TRANSATLANTIC. In 2002, Neal Morse became a born again Christian, left SPOCKS BEARD and began a Christian rock solo career, releasing many progressive rock concept albums about his new religious faith. In the meantime, he continued to play with TRANSATLANTIC and formed three new bands with Portnoy, YELLOW MATTER CUSTARD, FLYING COLORS, and THE NEAL MORSE BAND.
Today's tune "Dark Melody" is taken from the upcoming album, enjoy!
After a pretty busy week with a tribute show to Avicii at Friends Arena and firing off some Vikings at Annexet the week is finally to an end.
The first show was pretty cool, the electronic tunes got some life with a real orchestra and it's really sad that it has to go this far to be true for Tim Bergling. Well, I hope he enjoyed the show from heaven at least.
The weekend ended at Annexet here in Stockholm and once again I meet up with the lads from the Swedish death metal band AMON AMARTH. They traveled with ARCH ENEMY and HYPOCRISY.
During the years, have AMON AMARTH grown to a big arena band with their Viking influenced death metal. The show was sold out and they really offered a hell of an evening to their fans, props of Vikings, Vikings fighting in a few numbers, raised drum raiser covered with a mask and gold chains, red flames, normal flames, flame balls, I mean a lot of flames along with lots of pyro effects to create a superb visual effect and a night to remember.
So after a hot night at Annexet with FFP, the german pyro dudes it's pretty easy to choose this evening classic.
Well, 2004 is not so far away, but on September 6, 2004 did AMON AMARTH released their fifth full-length studio "Fate Of Norns" where we find today's tune "The Pursuit of Vikings" that also was played during the evening at Annexet, here in Stockholm.
Enjoy!
