"Mighty Wings" is a song by the American rock band CHEAP TRICK, released in 1986 as the third single from the soundtrack of the film Top Gun. It was written by Harold Faltermeyer and Mark Spiro, and produced by Faltermeyer.
Despite the commercial success of the Top Gun soundtrack, and unlike the four other singles culled from the album, "Mighty Wings" failed to make an appearance in the Billboard chart. It was the third of five singles to be released from the soundtrack, following "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins and "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin.
In the film Top Gun, the music (without vocals) is played in the first training session at Miramar, while the full version with vocals is played during the ending credits.
The song has been credited as an influence on Ken's theme music from the Street Fighter II videogame. Composer Yoko Shimomura stated: "I watched the movie before I composed the song, so I can't deny I may have been inspired subconsciously. But I didn't go into it thinking, 'OK I'm gonna make this song sound like Mighty Wings'."

Monday and it's a new week, time for us to present "Record Of The Week".
It was barely a year and a half ago when we got served "Aeromantic" by the Swedish classic rock/AOR supergroup THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA, read about it here! Now they are back with a follow-up and their formula may no longer have the surprise factor of earlier efforts, it's already their sixth album and they simply titled the new one with "Aeromantic II", where they take us on another journey telling the stories of broken hearts, hopeful beginnings and glorious party nights! I guess that they probably were a few songs left from the previous one and that they could not tour with the album quite simply continue to fill up the already solid collection of songs for an upcoming tour when this misery finally releases.
If you loved the previous album "Aeromantic", then you can just skip this post and go buy the record, it will be right in your alley for sure. But if you are curious, then I offer an review of my thoughts on "Aeromantic II".
The album opens up with big 80's keys in "Violent Indigo", with great riffs and a catchy overall feeling, a big chorus, a great opener. Cool guitars open up the next tune inline "Midnight Marvelous" which switches to a real funky dance number, where you can easily show off your Travolta moves, incredibly catchy Disco with some cool beats, and a great solo. The tempo is increased further "How Long", a tune that has been described as "90s DEEP PURPLE on cocaine", and I can only agree as this is true eargasm, so catchy and driven tune makes it impossible to keep your feet steady on the ground. The opening tunes on "Burn For Me" is like a flash movie from the '80s were plenty of hit tunes flying by in seconds. The tune is another very catchy piece and the flashes continue, I see Elton John's wonderfully crazy piano playing, Steve Lukather from TOTO playing a few riffs, Phil Collins on drums, and so on. TNFO really makes images spin for the listener, especially those who were there right away when everything was for real. Shit, starting to feel old now, lol. It's a marvelous tune. And it doesn't stop here, it's time for a real feel-good dinner tune in "Chardonnay Nights", a little more secluded, still incredibly driven with cheeky passages and brilliant singing. "Change" serves us with more keys, big keys, great drumbeat, a bit different layout but I love what I hear and I get pictures in my brain from movies where this would fit in, feels like a song that would work in preparation for something, a march, a warm-up, etc., I think of movies like Top Gun, Rocky, and others. "Amber Through A Window" gives us a progressive pop disco, a great beat, catchy chorus, and some small fine delicate features here and there, well done guys. "I Will Try" gives us some big beats from the past where TEARS FOR FEARS comes to mind. "You Belong To The Night" gives us an Asian Disco feeling, a nice dance number to shake up to on the nearest club. "Zodiac" is a number that offers a slightly different approach, wandering bass lick, picking guitar, fast drum beat, but everything is spiced with very good singing that makes the result as good as possible. "White Jeans" was the first single and video from this album, a classic TNFO tune in the best possible way, a magic song. The album closes up with "Moonlit Skies", a big tune in a lower tempo where all the extra energy is played on the instruments. As everything is played in a dual sense, really cool and gives us the end of an era, and the beginning of an empire. The album "Aeromantic II" is a great follow-up that showcases a hungry band that still has its creativity on top to serve as a feel-good power-rock airborne soap opera, get it! And I'm sure the band will have a nightmare about making a setlist for the upcoming tour, haha!

VILLAGERS OF IOANNINA CITY, one of the leading Greek heavy rock bands, comes from the
mountains of Epirus. Their are deeply influenced by Greek nature and cosmic phenomena and infuse their unique brand of heavy psychedelic rock with folk instruments such as bagpipes, flutes and, didgeridoo.
With their inspired mixture between BLACK SABBATH and TOOL with the traditional instruments and scales from the Greek rich musical past, they created a blend meant to strike an impression both locally and internationally.
Since their debut album "Riza" in 2014 they toured all over Greece and brought their music out to many European cities (Berlin, Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, among others). Throughout the last years performed in carefully selected shows in Greece, featuring a vast production with an impressive light show and grandiose stage settings, which highlights their open-air sold-out shows in
Athens 2015 and 2019 with more than 6000 attendance each.
In the meantime, the foundations for the "Age Of Aquarius" were laid in absolute secrecy. 5 years in the making is not an easy feat to stay hidden, but VIC did manage to keep it under wraps until the autumn of 2019 when all preparations were completed.
The new album "Age Of Aquarius" is exactly what the title implies, a whole new era of creation and experimentation, sonically and lyrically, setting up a journey through space and time.

It’s a rock anthem that comprises their signature, musical specialties.

“Way back in the day when we were recording the first WOLFMOTHER record, Chris invited us all over for a barbecue at his house in LA,” says WOLFMOTHER frontman Andrew Stockdale. “I think we all appreciated the sense of camaraderie he and the band had shown us in the early days, so it’s kind of cool to acknowledge these times by combining forces with a collaboration”.
“With Chris’s signature style drumming, rock speak and his old mate Jason Hills production wizardry, we managed to give one of my riffs a bit of a Hollywood nip and tuck, without over polishing the wild beast. Now it’s morphed into it’s own hybrid anthem for many future backyard cook ups and late night dive bar meanderings.”
“Andrew and I have known each other for years,” adds Chris, “and when he’d come to LA we’d always say, ‘Let’s do something let’s jam or whatever.’ So one day he comes over with this riff, we finished writing it in an hour or two, recorded it all in a couple more. No computers, no BPMs making it all robotic – all live. I think we did six takes!? It felt good to roll the tape and just deal with the consequences… next to a digital record, it sounds like an animal to me”.
Chase The Feeling is the first taste of new WOLFMOTHER material, coming in 2020.

"Back during the summer of 1969, an up-and-coming band called GHOST, fronted by Papa Nihil, played its first date at the Whisky A Go Go on Hollywood's Sunset Strip. The show was to celebrate GHOST's first release on Galaxy Recordings, 'Seven Inches of Satanic Panic', the double-A-side seven-inch single featuring 'Kiss The Go-Goat' and 'Mary On A Cross'. This original GHOST lineup eventually disbanded and the single, its original tapes, and the band's only promo and live performance of 'Kiss The Go-Goat' ever filmed, were lost...that is until recently when the songs and the Super 8 footage were discovered and resurrected by Papa Nihil..

BLACK LUNG emerged from a brutal Baltimore winter back in 2014, and from that emergence they arose victorious, wielding a trademark Maryland Doom-influenced balance of melody and power. With that vital underpinning, Adam Bufano and Elias Schutzman (founding members of THE FLYING EYES), along with multi-instrumentalist Dave Cavalier, crafted a sound heavy on volume that pushed hard into experimental territory. In lieu of a bass guitarist, the three opted for an unusual setup with a sonic palette defined by a multitude of amps, drop-tuning, and copious effects.
After releasing BLACK LUNGs self-titled debut and being named "Best New Band" by the Baltimore City Paper, they embarked on their first European tour in 2015, including a performance at the Rockpalast Crossroads Festival on German national television. Their sophomore album, "See The Enemy", was produced by J. Robbins (guitarist and frontman for post-punk icons JAWBOX; producer for THE SWORD and CLUTCH) and released in 2016, with a subsequent European tours hitting Freak Valley Festival and Desert Fest Belgium, alongside the likes of GRAVEYARD, DEAD MEADOW and ALL THEM WITCHES. After several years of touring and songwriting, BLACK LUNG is back with their most ambitious work yet, "Ancients", produced by Frank "The Punisher" Marchand (producer of THE OBSESSEDs "Sacred"). The title has a double-edged meaning, paying homage to the ancient powers of the earth while rejecting the ancient ideals of men who want to drag society back into the past. The ex H.E.A.T lead vocalist Kenny Leckremo have released the song "10 Years" from his upcoming solo album "Spectra", which will be released on October 19, 2018. Leckremo was the singer for H.E.A.T from 2007 to 2010 and handled the lead vocals on the first two albums H.E.A.T (2008) and Freedom Rock (2010).
Kenny Leckremo’s Spectra consists of Leckremo, Dave Dalone (H.E.A.T guitarist), Georg Härnsten and Mikael Planefeldt. All songs have been written by Kenny Leckremo, assisted by Dave Dalone, who also plays the guitar on the album.
Kenny Leckremo. One voice that even the most hardened critics could agree, he was nothing but magnificent. After two albums and a megahit in the form of the song "1000 Miles", H.E.A.T and Leckremo went separate ways. Internationally acclaimed guitar hero Michael Romeo has announced the release of his eagerly anticipated first official solo album, "War of the Worlds / Pt. 1", released July 27th thru Music Theories Recordings / Mascot Label Group. The wildly ambitious 10-song album sees the founder, chief songwriter and prime mover of the progressive titans SYMPHONY X furthering his reputation as one of the world's preeminent axe slingers and composers of adventurous, multi-faceted orchestral metal.
The album is inspired by the homonymous novel by H. G. Wells and incorporates elements of EDM, dubstep and classical music, inspired by movie score composers such as Bernard Herrmann and John Williams. Most of it was created when SYMPHONY X's vocalist Russell Allen was still recovering from the road accident he suffered one year before while on tour with ADRENALINE MOB Mob (in which his bandmate David Zablidowsky and tour manager Jane Train died) and the other members were involved with other projects. Michael hired three musicians he's known for a while, including bassist John DeServio, with whom he went to high school together.
Two lyric videos, one for "Djinn" (see below) and another for "Fear of the Unknown", were released on 29 June and 18 July, respectively. According to Romeo, a sequel, "War of the Worlds, Pt. 2", is already at the final stages of recording, but will take a while to be released because he wants people "to absorb the first one for a while, and then we'll put out the second record. They'll complement each other, but they'll also be a bit different".
Michael Romeo: "This is one of my favorite riffs on the album. The album title is 'War of the Worlds', but in this case, the 'Worlds' refers to the worlds of politics and religion."
After shaking the world by the neck last year's monster album "Amber Galactic", which also got selected for "Record Of The Week" one year ago, it also snapped the 5th position on the best albums 2017. Really good for a bunch of Swedish old school rockers that turns back to their own roots in the music making, could say about 1975 and 1985 where bands like JOURNEY, TOTO, STEELY DAN, SUPERTRAMP, REO SPEEDWAGON among others had their primetime then.
Now it's time for the fourth album "Sometimes The World Ain't Enough" to make some place in the spotlight. The album follows in the same steps as the 2017's "Amber Galactic". Twelve songs in fifty-eight minutes of glorious AOR. The album opens up with the catchy high tempo tune "This Time" and a happy smile turns on. Follows up by "Turn To Miami", a tune that well could be been picked from the soundtrack to the movie "Miami Vice", a melodic piece with a catchy chorus. There are a few disco-heavy tunes, like "Paralyzed", "Pretty Thing Closing In" with its funky strut and "Winged and Serpentine" that will shake your body and get you up and dance. The title tune "Sometimes The World Ain't Enough" have a really inspiring vocal, a tune that well could be the title tune for a James Bond movie. "Moments Of Thunder" waves hands with TOTO and "Speedwagon" and "Barcelona" is two power pop tunes that follow up by the bombastic "Lovers In The Rain". The album closes with a love full nine minutes epic beauty "The Last Of The Independent Romantics", a melodic piece with incredible vocals and a guitar riff that is just amazing.
The album was released on June 29, 2018, via Nuclear Blast. The album was again produced by the band themselves and was recorded at Handsome Hard Music / Larsson Music Studio as well as Nordic Sound Lab in Skara, Sweden. Mixing duties were taken on by the band's guitarist/percussionist Sebastian Forslund and mastering was done by Thomas ”Plec” Johansson at The Panic Room. The band will hit the road, see the tour dates below and make sure you catch them live.
Sum: "Sometimes The World Ain’t Enough" is the best soundtrack for this summer, an infectiously fun record to play.

ONE DESIRE is a melodic rock band from Finland, formed in 2012 when drummer Ossi Sivula started gathering musicians and friends for his new project. A couple years of writing songs, making demos with different musicians and friends went by with an aim to create music that could change the world. Various musicians came and went along the way, but in 2014 they met Jimmy Westerlund. Jimmy has several platinum and gold albums to his credit as a producer, guitarist, and songwriter. Jimmy had just moved back to Finland after a stint in Los Angeles. The band hired him to produce some songs, and after recording three songs with a new musical direction, they managed to attract the attention of Serafino Perugino, owner and head of A&R at Frontiers Music.
But, at this point, the band desperately needed a great singer. After trying out some different options, Jimmy suggested his longtime friend Andre Linman from the band STRUM UND DRANG. They were friends since way back and SuD had decided to go on hiatus the year before. Andre got together for a couple of sessions with the guys and after writing a couple new songs together, the style and sound that was about to become ONE DESIRE. Ossi and Andre asked Jimmy to join the band in 2016 and this is the album that was born from that collaboration. Also, not long after this happened, the very talented Jonas Kuhlberg (Paul Di´Anno, Cain´s Offering, MyGrain) was brought on and he became the last link in the chain.
After Jimmy brought in the song “Hurt”, the band felt that they had taken it to the next level. Andre wrote the beautiful ballad, “This Is Where The Heartbreak Begins” and at that time, ONE DESIRE started to find the right direction for Ossis' rocker, “Do You Believe”. Finally, in mid-2016, the band felt they finally were musically locked in and had the material to make an album that they could honestly stand behind and love beyond a doubt. 2017 will be a fantastic year as the journey of ONE DESIRE just begins!

Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"
The British rockers have released their 20th studio recording "Lost On The Road To Eternity" by the group MAGNUM surrounding founder members Bob Catley (vocals) and Tony Clarkin (guitar) since their 1978 debut "Kingdom Of Madness". At the same time, Clarkin, Catley and bassist Al Barrow are set to introduce their current line-up featuring new additions Rick Benton (keyboards) and Lee Morris (drums). Benton joined the MAGNUM camp in December 2016 to replace long-standing member Mark Stanway, while Morris took over from Harry James only a few months ago.
"Lost On The Road To Eternity" sees British hard rock band MAGNUM celebrate a very special anniversary in 2018.
40 years as a rock band is pretty awesome, not many band reach that milestone. And in that time, since their debut record, they have made their own sound, you could say that they earned the right to a "MAGNUM” sound, like AC/DC sounds like AC/DC, IRON MAIDEN sounds like IRON MAIDEN and so on. "Lost On The Road To Eternity" sounds... well MAGNUM!
The album contains eleven new songs, among them the first single release "Without Love", a tune that doesn’t sound like classic MAGNUM, but you will recognize Bob Catley peculiar voice. Even the sound and melody doesn’t follow the typical melodic pattern, instead it flows on a groovy cloud with a funky beat, not bad at all, I do like this step outside the ordinary comfort zone. The title tune "Lost On The Road To Eternity" features vocals from both Bob Catley and Tobias Sammet (EDGUY & AVANTASIA), kinda natural for him to contribute here as they have been working together on AVANTASIA. It’s a fantastic powerful tune! "Show Me Your Hands" is a bouncy modern MAGNUM classic. Beautiful keys by Benton starts "Storm Baby", a softer approach before the tempo rises for a time until it sets back to it's originally beauty. "Peaches and Cream" is a catchy, gentle and very melodic piece, and the opposite of the right sublime tune "Welcome to the Cosmic Cabaret" where the melodic parts really flows out from the classic template that MAGNUM usually adopts, a song that certainly would have been significantly longer, but unfortunately, shortened to only 8 minutes, sad, why not give it all. The song is a piece of art, could easy be the theme for the cover of the album. "Tell Me What You’ve Got to Say" follows the more classic style, powerful melody with wonderful low chugging riff. "Ya Wanna Be Someone" is a straight catchy rocker. "Forbidden Masquerade" continues in the more classic MAGNUM template, great singing, great melody and great guitar playing. Keys and Guitars opens up "Glory to Ashes", an half paced powerful piece, with amazing playing and fine poetic vocals. "King of the World" closes this package grandiose, bluesy licks with big choruses.
The release will once again be complemented by Rodney Matthews's atmospheric cover artwork.

With their 2012 self-titled debut album UNISONIC unleashed a storm of enthusiasm. For the first time in 23 years, the two former members of Hamburg’s metal institution HELLOWEEN - Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen – reunited to play in the same band. More than a few metal fans might have shed a tear.
After the successful follow-up album "Light Of Dawn" (2014) a worldwide tour followed with memorable gigs in South America, Europe and Japan until Unisonic, still at full speed, brought their energy to the small village of Wacken where one of the biggest and most spectacular metal festivals in the world takes place every year.
The international all-star act consisting of Michael Kiske (HELLOWEEN) on vocals, Kai Hansen (HELLOWEEN, GAMMA RAY) on guitars, Mandy Meyer (ex. ASIA, ex. GOTTHARD, KROKUS) on guitars, Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69 and successful producer of many top class hard rock acts) on bass guitar and Kosta Zafiriou (ex-PINK CREAM 69) on drums entered the stage at last year’s Wacken festival and made the night ablaze with glorious metal. For the band it was a remarkable experience.
On stage the band showed their class and diversity; their sound is spiked with remarkable riffs and guitar solos, thundering grooves, classic metal hymns and hooks other bands would be dying to write. And on top the anthemic vocals of Kiske, whose “out-of-this-world” voice is so extraordinary and strong, he is often mentioned in the same breath with Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford and Geoff Tate.
Like the studio albums, "Live in Wacken" was mixed and mastered by the band’s own Dennis Ward.
This show was a very special occasion for the whole band, but possibly it was “the show of the life” for one band member… Kosta Zafiriou had in fact decided to focus only on the management side and to leave his drummer seat forever, after a lifetime spent between management duties and being a professional drummer.
2017 and 2018 will see Kiske and Hansen reunite with HELLOWEEN for the Pumpkins United World Tour.
The UNISONIC show will be available on a limited CD+DVD (Digipak) and digital version. The bonus DVD includes the video recording of six songs from their spectacular performance.

"Amber Galactic", THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRAs (NFO), third album was released on 19 May 2017.
Suddenly my speakers streams classic melodic rock pop with a light glamdisco feeling, my smile gets bigger and I find my self dancing in the living room. Think T.REX, KISS, TOTO, REO SPEEDWAGON and some glittery guitar and the bulky 70s and 80s effects, there you have "Amber Galactic", an totally amazing album.
"Amber Galactic" is a very fun record to play, it's old but very modern. It's very well made, both song and lyrics wise, the production have a very good quality.
The album kicks of with the galloping opener "Midnight Flyer", a real catchy killer tune and the pumping "Star Of Rio", catchy verses and choruses of "Gemini", amazing start of the album. The we get a cool 80's bass line on "Jennie", mid-tempo monster filler like "Josephine" to the classic 80's soundtrack rock "Something Mysterious". The grooving KISS alike "Domino" the up tempo dueling tune "Space Whisperer" to the disco beat in "Saturn in Velvet"

DAN REED NETWORK’s latest record “"Fight Another Day”" marks the anticipated return of one of the most infectious and gifted bands to come out in the Melodic Rock World in the second part of the 80’s!
Formed originally in Portland, Oregon, the band began packing out local clubs from late 1984 through 1986 with their infectious mixture of hard rock, funk and soul. After releasing their EP ‘Breathless’ and having a top ten single on local radio, ‘Steal Me’, DRN signed to Polygram/Mercury Records. In the winter of 1987, the group released their self-titled debut album which was produced by Bruce Fairbairn (BON JOVI, AEROSMITH) and engineered/mixed by Mike Fraser in Vancouver, Canada. The first single, “Ritual” peaked at number 38 on the US Billboard Charts and became a staple of what became known as the ‘Funk Rock’ genre. The debut album received a wealth of positive reviews, not the least of which was a four-star write-up from the notoriously hard-to-please Rolling Stone Magazine.
DAN REED NETWORK’ went over to Europe to support the album and had legendary performances at the Marquee Club in London and the The Melody Club in Stockholm, which are still talked about to this day. While attending the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum induction ceremony in January 1989 in New York, Dan Reed met up with producer Nile Rodgers (Duran Duran, Madonna, David Bowie) which led to the creation of the second album “Slam”. Produced by Rodgers, it better represented the DAN REED NETWORK’ live sound and accelerated the band’s growing status in Europe. DAN REED NETWORK’ opened the European leg of BON JOVIs ‘New Jersey Tour’ in 1989 and THE ROLLING STONES’ European ‘Urban Jungle Tour’ in 1990. The DAN REED NETWORK’s third album ‘The Heat’, produced by Bruce Fairbairn in 1991, was their biggest success in the UK, mostly due to the single ‘Lover’ which was accompanied by a live video from Wembley Stadium filmed when they opened for THE ROLLING STONES’. Despite some success and disillusioned with the record business and all it’s trappings, the band eventually disbanded, much to the dismay of their supporters around the globe.
Fast forward to the 21st century and DAN REED NETWORK’ played their 25th anniversary reunion show on New Years Eve 2012 in their home town of Portland, Oregon, with all the original band members: Dan Reed, Dan Pred, Brion James, Melvin Brannon II and Blake Sakamoto. The members found it was incredibly fun being back together and consequently DAN REED NETWORK’ decided it was a good time to bring the band and the music back to Europe and performed three sold out shows in Stockholm at Debaser, outside of London at the Enchanted Festival and at the Diamond Rock Club in Northern Ireland in 2013.
Dan Reed says: “It's been 25 years since our last studio album "The Heat" was released, and to be honest, I never envisioned making another DAN REED NETWORK’ album despite countless people throughout the world encouraging us to do so. But with a mixture of fate and a collective of trusted friends and supporters in the business coming to the table, I am excited to say we are poised to release a brand new record entitled "Fight Another Day" in 2016 on Frontiers, home of many artists that we in fact admired back when we were first hitting the scene and before. Finally the stars aligned perfectly to have it all come together and make this album, and to have Derek Shulman, who originally singed DAN REED NETWORK’ to Polygram in 1987, once again being in our lives as our co-manager and A&R man, brings us full circle. As for the sound and approach of the album the band and I thought it would be a great experiment and interesting challenge to revisit what endeared the band to so many back in the day and deliver a rock record with funk and soul elements, strong melodies, but this time around incorporate even edgier lyrics while not losing sight that this release needed to be uplifting, infectious, and most of all, powerful when performed live. The title "Fight Another Day" represents the fact that after 25 years we were able to gravitate back to the passion we discovered playing together all those years ago, and battle once more!“ The band looks forward to the world's response to this new labor of love, and this testament to the bonds of friendship and musical chemistry!
