V**gra Boys - Ain't No Thief

The Swedish post-punkers V**GRA BOYS have announced a new album, "Cave World" - Out July 8th 2022 on YEAR0001, and shared the first taster from the record, "Ain’t No Thief".

The band was formed in 2015, with several members coming from the bands LES BIG BYRD, PIG EYES, NINE, NITAD, and NEU-RONZ. In 2018, they released their first album, "Street Worms". Nils Hansson, a journalist at the newspaper Dagens Nyheter described the band favorably, praising their musical style, as well as their use of black humor and satire, and rated the album a five out of five.

In 2019, the band won the Independent Music Companies Association (IMPALA) Album of the Year Award for "Street Worms".

The band's second album, "Welfare Jazz", was released in January 2021.

Benjamin Vallé, the band's co-founder and former guitarist, died in October 2021.

V**RA BOYS: “A lot of our output is a celebration of being a fuck-up”. The follow-up to 2021’s "Welfare Jazz", which has been produced by Pelle Gunnerfeldt and DJ Haydn, is released on July 8 via Year0001.

According to a press release, the album is “inspired by current events”, and “aims to tear through the insanity and confusion the world currently finds itself in.”

Gang Of Four - To Hell With Poverty

Sunday, time for a classic.

"To Hell With Poverty" is a tune by the English post-punk band GANG OF FOUR, formed in 1976 in Leeds. The tune was released a single in UK but not in US, so the "Another Day/Another Dollar" EP, released in 1982 in the US, by Warner Bros. Records. The release is a compilation of material previously unreleased in the US. The first two tracks were released in the UK as a single. The third track is the b-side of the UK only single "What We All Want," and the last two tracks are excerpted from a live show recorded at the Hammersmith Palais, in London, on 3/30/81. All five songs from the EP later appeared on the EMI Records and Infinite Zero Archive/American Recordings's 1995 CD reissue of the 1981 LP "Solid Gold".

Squid - Pamphlets

SQUID is an English post-punk band from Brighton, England. They are currently based in London. Squid released their debut EP on Speedy Wunderground, Town Centre, in 2019 and have since released four singles on Warp Records. Their debut album, "Bright Green Field", was released by Warp Records on 7 May 2021.

Taking advantage of lockdown, the band spend most of 2020 recording what would be their debut full length album, "Bright Green Field", again working with producer Dan Carey. The album was released on 7 May 2021 and was promoted by three singles, "Narrator", "Paddling" and "Pamphlets". It was well received by critics.

“The video for "Pamphlets" is a meditation on the feeling of being unfit, unlovable, not compatible and the manic anxiety and stress that this results in. I wanted to explore a state of mind that I have found myself in many times, of fearing to go outside and being confronted with everything that one cannot love about themselves.

Rooted in trauma that is as personal as it is always connected to society at large, harmful self-images are incredibly hard to escape. The fear of being rejected for the ways one is marked as different and perceived as such, manifested in the presence and gaze of others, becomes the way we see ourselves. We internalize the rejection that we are subjected to. As a result, there is the urge to hide away, suppress and judge whatever it is that we have been taught to hate. Thus detaching from the self and thereby detaching from others.

This is a video that relates to my own experiences as well as it is a solidarisation with everyone that has been made to feel this way.” Raman Djafari

V**gra Boys - In Spite Of Ourselves (with Amy Taylor)

Thursday, time for a cover.

"In Spite Of Ourselves" is the title tune of the 13th studio album of John Prine, featuring duets with various well-known female folk and alt-country vocalists, released in 1999.

The album was Prine's first release since successfully battling throat cancer. The female duet partners include Iris DeMent, Connie Smith, Lucinda Williams, Trisha Yearwood, Melba Montgomery, Emmylou Harris, Dolores Keane, Patty Loveless, and his wife, Fiona Prine. There is only one Prine-penned song in the bunch, In Spite Of Ourselves, the title track, that he is doing a duet with Iris DeMent.

Sadly, Prine died on April 7, 2020, of complications caused by COVID-19 at the age of 73.

Today's cover is made by the Swedish post-punk band V**GRA BOYS featuring Amy Taylor of Australian rock band AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS. The cover will be featured on V**GRA BOYS upcoming album "Welfare Jazz", which will be out January 8, 2021 on YEAR001.

Frontman Sebastian Murphy states regarding the cover in a press release: “When I heard ‘In Spite’ the first time I instantly had an urge to do a cover or it and I instantly knew that I wanted Amy to sing Iris DeMent's part because of her unique voice. I love that she sings with an Australian accent which is not too common in country songs I’ve heard before. I’ve listened to the SNIFFERS since way back when we started and Benke showed me ‘I’m not a loser.’ Then I’ve had the privilege of playing with them and hangin out and partying with Amy and the band all over the world and we’ve hit it off from the start. Amy is a goddess of punk rock and a very important part of music today, and one of the smartest people I’ve talked to and it’s an honor to able to make music with her and I hope we can do more in the future!”

Taylor also speaks a bit on the collaboration: “I was so excited when V**GRA BOYS asked me to do a duet with them. Sebastian is a classy man but let's be true, we're both insanely feral and gross, so the lyrics are perfect, I love tomato sauce and have a foul mouth so it's like he's singing right to me, what an honour. Seb’s a country music fan, and so am I, so it was really sweet to do a little nice duet and he actually introduced John Prine to me, and now I’m a fan. V**GRA BOYS AND SNIFFERS see each other here and there around when we're touring, I’ve got all the time in the world for them and their music. Gus, our bass player, even represents a full VB track suit, hat and all! I remember when we were in London once and V**GRA BOYS were playing, Gus and Bryce went and ended up sleeping in a park because they had too much fun. I rode a ferris wheel with Benke once when they were in Australia last year. I want to try that hectic stupid canned fish they always talk about. Shrimp Jazz for life!”

Blaze Of Perdition - With Madman's Faith

Existing at the forefront of the Polish black metal movement, BLAZE OF PERDITION returned with their fifth full-length, "The Harrowing Of Hearts" – their most urgent, refined, dynamic and accomplished work to date. Richly layered, it is also their most textured release, and they dive ever deeper into the themes they have been exploring since dropping their debut full-length in 2010, "Towards The Blaze Of Perdition".

BLAZE OF PERDITION was formed in 2007 by the guitarist XCIII. The band started its publishing activity by releasing a split album with PSEUDOGOD (Ru) "In The Void And Serpent, The Spirit Is One" in 2009. Although beginnings were strongly influenced by the so-called orthodox BM scene, with "Near Death Revelations", the band started looking for broader ways of expression, mixing their traditional style with different kind of influences from beyond the genre.

Line-up changed numerous times, but the core remained intact, with its general direction by XCIII and lyrical/conceptual themes by Sonneillon. Final shape of the songs, especially later ones, is an effect of mutual effort by all band members who offered their ideas and arrangements, although filtered by XCIII to keep the music consistent.

November 2nd 2013 turned out to be tragic. Car accident took life of the bass player 23 and left Sonneillon and Vizun (drummer) severely injured. Unfortunately, Sonneillon couldn't continue any live activity due to his serious health condition, but remained a core member responsible for the studio vocals, lyrics, graphic design and PR.

BLAZE OF PERDITION released their fifth full-length album "The Harrowing Of Hearts" on February 14, 2020. This time the focus is on the occult, satanism, Luciferianism. They put us in Christ's shoes on a metaphorical journey into one's soul to face and come to terms with whatever it holds, very close to the Jungian concept of shadow integration mentioned here and there on our previous album.

Working with the same producer they've been teaming with since 2013 and with artwork designed by Izabela Grabda, every aspect of "The Harrowing Of Hearts" has come together as intended, and with Metal Blade now behind them the band is now ready to work their asses off to spread their name even further. It's also safe to say the members of BLAZE OF PERDITION don't feel like they have anything to prove going into 2020.

Some call it street blues; smart and dumb at the same time, sad, lonely but always with a smirk and a unique knack for deadpan funny but grim storytelling. Stockholm punk rockers V**gra Boys make great music, sort of like The Stooges meets The Birthday Party, or Devo cross-pollinated with Mark E Smith’s Fall – it might not be for everyone, but like Gibby said: ‘There’s a time to shit and a time for god, the last shit I took was pretty fucking odd’. Grimey, acid highway full throttle; V**gra Boys debut album ‘Street Worms’ released last year is an interesting ride as vocalist Sebastian Murphy lets you ride shotgun while this trip takes you blazing to the top of a mountain before speeding right back down to the basement again. The bass line ferociously drives the car and the drums make sure you stay on the road – this is one of those trips where you sporadically wake up and find yourself in strange situations, wondering how the f*ck you got there.

INVSN - This Constant War

Why not continue on the same path as yesterday, "This Constant War" is a tune taken from the Swedish post-punkers INVSN taken from their 2017 album "The Beautiful Stories".

INVSN (pronounced "Invasion") is a Post-Punk band from Umeå in the North of Sweden. The members have all played in influential punk and rock bands from Sweden. It is the music project of Swedish Punk rock musician Dennis Lyxzén. In contrast to his other projects, REFUSED and THE (INTERNATIONAL) NOISE CONSPIRACY, AC4 and many more. He has also been a touring member of THE BLOODY BEETROOTS. This started out as a solo career and much more folkish and softer than his prior music endeavors.

Sara Almgren used to be in the first Swedish all-female straight-edge band THE DOUGHNUTS. She later played keyboard and guitar in THE (INTERNATIONAL) NOISE CONSPIRACY and has also played in bands like THE VICIOUS and MASSHYSTERI. She has also toured with Marit Bergman and SAHARA HOTNIGHTS. Anders Stenberg is a member of acclaimed Swedish band THE DEPORTEES and also a touring member of Lykke Li's band. Christina Karlsson, besides playing in INVSN she also plays with bands and artist such as Frida Selander, TIGER FOREST CAT, and HONUNGSVÄGEN. Andre Sandström hails from Swedish hardcore thrashers DS-13 and has also played in bands like THE VICIOUS and UX VILEHEADS.

"This Constant War" is a song about human ability to make mistakes, be idiotic and selfish and to generally fuck up! But it's also about a second chance and a third chance and a fourth chance, says Dennis Lyxzén.

Dark Days + Canapés is the fourth album by British vocalist and musician Ghostpoet.

Ghostpoets single "Immigrant Boogie”, pitch-black post-punk guitars, distorted synths that is filled with the sense of impending doom, the tune sees Obaro Ejimiwe telling a first person account of a difficult journey across borders.

A piece of music where it’s hard to set a label on it. A quick referens, a young and sober Tom Waits with struggling minds, trying to make sense of an ever-increasingly technologically connected, but lonesome world.

Obaro Ejimiwe (18 January 1983) is a British vocalist and musician better known by his stage name Ghostpoet. His first album, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam, was shortlisted for the 2011 Mercury Prize. His 2015 album, Shedding Skin was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. Ghostpoet's fourth album Dark Days + Canapés was released on 18 August 2017.

In April 2017 Ghostpoet released the single "Immigrant Boogie" released via Play It Again, Sam. The track was produced by Leo Abrahams and mixed by Leo and Kristofer Harris. The track is the first from the album Dark Days + Canapés.

Grave Pleasures - Infatuation Overkill

GRAVE PLEASURES is Finland's most notorious Post-Punk band.

There are still those rare bands out there in the world that have a unique ability to combine macabre, mystifying rock with a more pop-oriented flare, a la early BOWIE or early THE CURE. GRAVE PLEASURES are such a band that is equally suited for playing on a stadium stage, or in some Lynchian nightmare. It’s that duality and electrifying contradiction that makes their music so exhilarating.

Lead guitarist Juho Vanhanen (ORANSSI PAZUZU) steps up to write the majority of the songs together with British-born outcast McNerney (HEXVESSEL, ex- BEASTMILK/DHG/CODE). His screaming telecaster and unique interplay of discord and harmony has become a trademark of the band’s sound. Together with guitarist Aleksi Kiiskilä (ex - KOHU 63), their strings shimmer, hammer and howl out a web of sound which is distinctly GRAVE PLEASURES. Fleshed out by the hypnotic signature rhythms of Valtteri Arino (ex- BEASTMILK) on bass and Rainer Tuomikanto frenetically pounding the funeral drums (AJATTRA, ex- SHINING Swe), this group of well established punks have started to reach up to their zenith on their sordid new testament "Motherblood".

"Motherblood" was recorded at Orgone Studios in the UK with Jaime Gomez Arellano (GHOST, ULVER, HOST, PARADISE LOST) in March 2017. The studio was suitably situated on the site of an old WW2 coding bunker and brought with it the isolation of the bleak British countryside. The setting helped give the album an intense and smiling urgency that picks up where 80s UK bands such as MAGAZINE, THE WIRE and ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN left off, but never stopping long enough to look back too much into the past. Featuring guest vocals from David Tibet from CURRENT 93, the band sets the tone for their inspirations, from the esoteric underground of England’s hidden reverse to Manchester’s sound of misery. With their own metallic raw tone clashed with pop hooks, "Motherblood" is a furiously passionate and contemporary record, which re-defines post-punk as a “war-cry for the eternally doomed.”

Algiers - Cleveland

"The Underside of Power" is the second album by American experimental band ALGIERS. The album was released through Matador Records on June 23, 2017. The album was produced by Adrian Utley of PORTISHEAD and his frequent collaborator Ali Chant. It was also the band's first album to feature drummer Matt Tong as a full-time member.

"The Underside of Power” assert violence, darkness and horror, that the human spirit is affirmed through witness and resistance, leading not only to solace but to redemption.

ALGIERS is composed of vocalist/guitarist Franklin James Fisher, bassist Ryan Mahan, guitarist Lee Tesche and drummer Matt Tong. ALGIERS pulls from a divergent number of musical (and nonmusical) influences; the most notable of which being post-punk, gospel music, Southern Gothic literature and the concept of the Other. Their sound has been described as "dystopian soul" due to its somber mood, afrofolk inspired vocal approach, and heavy emphasis on atonal textures.

The band met and grew up playing music together in Atlanta, Georgia but was officially formed in London in 2007. Their name evokes the anti-colonial struggle in general, symbolizing a contested space where violence, racism, resistance, and religion commingle.

The group released their first single “Blood” in January 2012 via Atlanta based label Double Phantom. Byron Coley for The Wire wrote “Although the fusion may have been touched upon in recordings related to both The Birthday Party and The Gun Club, Algiers are dedicated to grafting gospel music onto post-punk guitar-cuzz...this record is mesmerising and really sucks you in with its weird power.”

The band's self-titled debut album was released through Matador on June 2, 2015. In 2015, ahead of their eponymous release, the band opened for Interpol, during their North American Tour. Matt Tong, formerly of Bloc Party, has been playing drums for Algiers since early 2015. Their live show has been described as "recalling at various points PIL’s dub-style expansions, Afrobeat, industrial, no wave, free jazz, Suicide, the XTC of “Travels in Nihilon,” Nick Cave’s fire and brimstone, and musique concrète.”

Kvelertak - Bronsegud

Norwegian rockers KVELERTAK have released the official music video for "Bronsegud", from their new LP, "Nattesferd".

KVELERTAK has been announced as special guests for the entirety of METALLICA's upcoming "WorldWired" European tour. Dates are set to kick off September 4 at The Netherlands' Ziggo Dome and continue through May 2018, see all the dates below.

Recently profiled by Vice's Noisey Shreds, KVELERTAK took home its third Spellemann award (Norway's Grammy equivalent) earlier this year for "Nattesferd". Recorded live in Oslo, Norway's Amper Tone Studio, the abum was produced by KVELERTAK and mixed/engineered by Nick Terry (LINDSTRØM, TURBONEGRO, THE LIBERTINES). It was the first KVELERTAK LP to be recorded in Norway.

KVELERTAK is Erlend Hjelvik (vocals), Vidar Landa (guitar), Bjarte Lund Rolland (guitar), Maciek Ofstad (guitars), Marvin Nygaard (bass) and Kjetil Gjermundrød (drums).

Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs

AMESOEURS was a French post-punk/black metal band formed in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, France in Summer 2004 by guitarist/vocalist Neige of ALCEST, bassist/singer Audrey Sylvain and guitarist Fursy Teyssier (PHEST, LES DISCRETS) with the purpose of creating a music that reflects the dark side of the industrial era and modern civilization. Neige and Audrey Sylvain are also known for their input as session/live musicians in La sale Famine de Valfunde's band PESTE NOIRE.

A kaleidoscopic vision of the modern era. AMESOEURS are the children of this sad and metallic century, the musical metaphor of the modern urbanized world... By mixing elements of harsh melancholic Black Metal, Post-punk and '80s New Wave influenced by the likes of JOY DIVISION, early CURE and DEPECHE MODE, AMESOEURS is a bleak, violent, melancholic, suffocating and desolate vision, one brimming with despair.

Today's tune is the title track from the only full length self titled album "AMESOEURS" (Soulmates) is the sole album by the band of the same name. It was released in 2009, just before the band broke up. Northern Silence Productions released a special limited LP edition of the album in three different versions: the "Metallic Century" edition, limited to 333 copies, the "Cold Light" edition limited to 333 copies, and the "Night Sky" edition limited to 222 copies, which all come with exclusive bonus tracks.

Kingdom Of Evol - Alcohol

April 18th, the Record Store Day, a day where the Vinyl record is in focus. Great old stuff has dust wiped, re-issued for this particular day, to once again become available to freaks like me. Many works have been lost along the way and some others have been forgotten and almost impossible to get hold of, so it's with great fun to see old things again disposable.

Every year, the most exciting thing we do (or atleast me) is watch the list of all the releases during the Record Store Day! This is the day were musicians rolls in to the stores for a take over and offers the visitors with some live music, artists that are locally known, regionally beloved, nationally recognized and globally phenomenal are here to help celebrate those stores we love so much.

The live performance this year have increased a lot, so there is not a chance to see them all (: Anyway, you could always pick out a few, take a coffee and go thru the records that the store has to offer.

This years #RSD15 Ambassador DAVE GROHL will set up his FOO FIGHTERS at Record Connection, and Amanda Palmer confirmed a DRESDEN DOLLS reunion at Rough Trade. ALL TIME LOW, who have the #1 album in both the US and the UK this week are meeting the fans at Schoolkids, MORBID ANGEL does the same at Waterloo. STEVE EARLE, JASON ISBELL, DAMIEN RICE, YELLOWCARD, GWAR, EX HEX, TV ON THE RADIO, the list of artists heading to a record store on Saturday is wide-ranging and we really wish we could be everywhere at once.

In Sweden there have been artists as WEEPING WILLOWS, KRISTOFER ÅSTRÖM, WINHILL/LOSEHILL, OBLIVIOUS, NOCTURNALIA, OLA MAGNELL, BO KASPERS ORKESTER, EBBA FORSBERG & PLURA, KINGDOM OF EVOL among many others.

Todays band, or atleast one of the acts that got their Vinyl released today is the psychedelic postpunk band THE KINGDOM OF EVOL. Started in 2007 in Gothenburg, Sweden by musicians/artists Freddie Wadling and Per Svensson. The Music and Lyrics of THE KINGDOM OF EVOL is inspired by art and magic and creates dark soundscapes - and poetic images appear. “The music is very psychedelic and dark, EVOL is LOVE backwards” (Freddie Wadling) The members of THE KINGDOM OF EVOL met in the 80's ´round record label Radium 226.05 Records in Gothenburg and started their carriers in various constellations and groups.

Marilyn Manson - Third Day Of A Seven Day Binge

The Pale Emperor is the upcoming ninth studio album by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It is expected to be released on January 20, 2015 in the US through Marilyn Manson's Hell, etc. imprint, via Cooking Vinyl Records. The album will be released in standard, deluxe and limited edition versions on CD and Vinyl. The standard version of the album will comprise of ten tracks, while a deluxe edition will include three bonus tracks. Another deluxe edition is set to include four acoustic versions as bonus tracks

The band started production for The Pale Emperor in 2013. In early 2014, Gil Sharone of Stolen Babies revealed he had been working on the new album since November. On February 1, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter stated that he had written a song with Shooter Jennings, for which Manson was to perform vocals. As well as confirming that Jennings was involved in the recording of The Pale Emperor, Sutter stated that the song is to appear in the seventh and final season of Sons of Anarchy, and also confirmed Manson's acting involvement in the show, playing the white supremacist Ron Tully. On June 25, Fred Sablan confirmed he had left the band on good terms. On September 3, Manson confirmed that the new album is "prepared for landing", indicating that production for the album had been completed

Marilyn Manson is an American rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The band's lineup has changed between many of their album releases; the current members of Marilyn Manson are the eponymous lead singer (the only remaining original member), bassist Twiggy Ramirez, guitarist Tyler Bates, drummer Gil Sharone .
