New week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".
"Impera" is the fifth full-length studio release for the Swedish rock band GHOST, twelve years as a band and they really have establishes them self as a commercial hard rock force and they finally reached the top-tier mainstream heavy metal/hard rock act that they were aiming at. "Impera" is themed mainly on "the rise and fall of empires". It is described to take place hundreds of years forward from the 14th century Europe Black Plague era of GHOSTs previous album, "Prequelle".
The album is a well crafted catchy piece that flows between heavy metal, rock and catchy pop ,much depends on the magic team they have surrounded them self with, thinking of the very talent Swedish writers and producers, namely pop producer Klas Åhlund and songwriting team Tobias Forge, Joakim Berg (KENT), Salem Al Fakir, Vincent Pontare and Peter Svensson (CARDIGANS) and for the musical parts we have the marvelous guitar playing by Fredrik Åkesson (OPETH), drummer Hux Nettermalm (INFINITE MASS, PAATOS), and on Piano, keybords Martin Hederos (THE SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES, TONBRUKET).
The albums opens up with an instrumental intro in "Imperium", dual lead guitars, marching drums that gives a powerful feeling and give a great start to the next tune "Kaisarion", i high driven catchy piece. The tune is titled for the son of Cleopatra and Julius Caesar, the last Pharoah. "Spillways" is a bombastic popish tune, written by Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare. Keys that bings the mind to ABBA, yes keep it Swedish. The second single out of the album is "Call Me Little Sunshine" and "Hunter's Moon" are two powerful tunes where the both have a 80's feeling. The guitar heavy "Watcher In The Skies", heavy riffing and a great melody keeps the tune up. "Dominion" an instrumental interlude to prebuild "Twenties", another heavy riffing piece, that takes the band out of the normal comfort zone and serves us with a head banger. "Darkness At The Heart Of My Love" is a power ballad with some beautiful harmonies. "Griftwood" gives a nod to WHITESNAKE. The album closes up with a short interlude "Bite Of Passage" before the half pace "Respite On The Spitalfields" closes the book for this time. A story about Jack The Ripper, where the arrangement sounds partly as DEEP PURPLE and ALICE COOPER. The album is a pleasant listen, where they successes to keep the interest high. This is a grand step for GHOST. Now it will be interesting to see where it goes.
"Impera" was released by Loma Vista Recordings on 11 March 2022. The cover art by Zbigniew Bielak is a reference to English occultist Aleister Crowley.
Sum: GHOSTs fifth album have a history that strangely enough fits into today's events.
Today's tune "Call Me Little Sunshine", taken from "Impera", enjoy!
The ghastly Swedish outfit GHOST have just released a brand new music and video "Hunter’s Moon", finally they delivered on long-promised new material, which is a stand-alone single featured in the movie "Halloween Kills".
The video is an spooky one with creepy vibes of an horror movie. Listen and see it below.
This latest single has arrived just hours after GHOST announced a co-headlining U.S. tour with VOLBEAT, which is set to kick off on Jan. 25 with special guest TWIN TEMPLE as the opening act, see the dates below.
Work on the successor to 2018's "Prequelle", GHOST's fourth studio album, began over a year ago with intentions on recording in January and that he was targeting a late 2021 album release. But with an pandemic in the way it looks more like a release for next year if they don't already made everything ready for a secret "hush hush" release, you never know when it comes to these Swedes.
We wish to inform you……. It’s a Hunter’s Moon.🌕
Enjoy today's tune, where the video was directed by Amanda Demme.

"Sympathy for the Devil" is a song by English rock band THE ROLLING STONES, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It is the opening track on their 1968 album "Beggars Banquet".
"Sympathy for the Devil" is credited to Jagger and Richards, though the song was largely a Jagger composition. The working title of the song was "The Devil Is My Name", having earlier been called "Fallen Angels". Jagger sings in first person narrative as the Devil, boasting his role in each of several historical atrocities. The singer then ironically demands our courtesy towards him, implicitly chastising the listener for our collective culpability in the listed killings and crimes. In the 2012 documentary Crossfire Hurricane, Jagger stated that his influence for the song came from Baudelaire and from the Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita (which had just appeared in English translation in 1967). The book was given to Jagger by Marianne Faithfull and she confirmed the inspiration in an interview with Sylvie Simmons from the magazine Mojo in 2005.
Today's version is by GHOSTs frontman Tobias Forge joins THE HELLACOPTERS for a cover of THE ROLLING STONES tune "Sympathy For The Devil" on Swedish television as part of Sweden’s nationally televised quiz show "På Spåret".
Forge’s rendition was conducted via his latest persona, Papa Emeritus IV, the fourth guise in GHOSTs epic line of ghoulish frontmen. Enjoy today's cover.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, GHOST's "Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic": "Kiss The Go-Goat" and "Mary on A Cross" will be re-released by Loma Vista on September 27 and can be preordered via GHOST's web site and from all digital platforms. Check out GHOST's webisode "Chapter 8: Kiss the Go-Goat" for the whole story.
A press release offered the following back story for GHOST's new single:
"Back during the summer of 1969, an up-and-coming band called GHOST, fronted by Papa Nihil, played its first date at the Whisky A Go Go on Hollywood's Sunset Strip. The show was to celebrate GHOST's first release on Galaxy Recordings, 'Seven Inches of Satanic Panic', the double-A-side seven-inch single featuring 'Kiss The Go-Goat' and 'Mary On A Cross'. This original GHOST lineup eventually disbanded and the single, its original tapes, and the band's only promo and live performance of 'Kiss The Go-Goat' ever filmed, were lost...that is until recently when the songs and the Super 8 footage were discovered and resurrected by Papa Nihil..
The limited-edition "reissue" of Ghost's "Seven Inches of Satanic Panic: 'Kiss the Go-Goat' and 'Mary on a Cross'" will be available on September 27th. Look for that and more, including the collector's dream "Prequelle Exalted" vinyl-and-book box set, on the band' webstore.
GHOST is known for special, limited-edition items that have been tied to its various album releases — an eight-track edition of "Ceremony & Devotion", and for "Prequelle", a seven-inch die-cut-as-rats vinyl disc of the album's first single "Rats", offering the album on a variety of different colored cassette tapes, and the lenticular cover for "Prequelle"'s special vinyl edition as well as five alternate covers for the retail edition. On September 27, GHOST will release a plethora of limited, exclusive items tied to the "Prequelle" album and world tour: the deluxe collector's edition, "Prequelle Exalted", with only 5000 sets produced. Log on to ghost-official.com for all purchasing information.
Included in the "Prequelle Exalted" deluxe collector's limited edition will be:
* "Prequelle" limited edition transparent orange with black smoke colored vinyl
* 60-page arena tour photo book, hardbound and wrapped in black gator skin
* Exclusive die-cut "Prequelle" artwork with a 12-page booklet featuring brand-new, mind-blowing illustrations.
* Four 12" X 12" live photo prints
* Bonus 7" with two GHOST rarities
* GHOST 7" vinyl adapter
For the arena tour hardbound photo book and the exquisite, suitable-for-framing 12" X 12" prints, Ryan Chang photographed GHOST on tour over the course of a year, documenting the band's live performances throughout Europe, Canada and the United States, including the special guest spots on METALLICA European "WorldWired" stadium tour this summer. The 12-page booklet of new prints was created by GHOST's longtime visual collaborator Zbigniew M. Bielak, offering 10 stunning illustrations, each one a visual representation of the 10 songs on "Prequelle".
"Prequelle" was produced by Tom Dalgety and originally released in on June 1, 2018. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award as "Best Rock Album", and for Sweden's Grammis award as "Best Rock/Metal Record Of The Year", and Dalgety received a Grammy nomination as "Producer Of The Year." Both Revolver and Kerrang! magazines named "Prequelle" the best album of 2018, and the album produced three Top 10 singles — "Rats", "Dance Macabre" (both of which went to No. 1 at Rock Radio) and "Faith". To date, "Prequelle" has accumulated some 250 million streams globally.
GHOST will kick off its fall/winter North American and European "Ultimate Tour Named Death" headline arena trek on September 13, see all the dates below.
Today's tune "Kiss The Go-Goat" is the brand new single, the tune will be included on a new limited-edition seven-inch single which will be released on September 27. "Kiss The Go-Goat" will be backed by another new song, "Mary On A Cross", enjoy!

17th of May, the national day in Norway, hurray hurray Norway!
I wish we could celebrate our national day same as the Norweigan does, but no, we don't...sad.
So today we celebrate them and play Norway's finest stoner-punk band BOKASSA, a band that released a brand new music video for "Mouthbreathers Inc." yesterday, taken off of the new upcoming album "Crimson Riders" out June 21st.
BOKASSA plays some fuse stoner rock riffs and groove with the energy and volatility of punk and hardcore, into their own unique brand of stoner punk. Their 2017 debut album, "Divide & Conquer" was an excellent release.
"Crimson Riders" was recorded back home in Trondheim’s Brygga Studio, with production by the band together with Yngve Andersen (BLOOD COMMAND), mixing by Simon Jackman, and mastering by the legendary Brian ‘Big Bass’ Gardener.
BOKASSA enthuses, “We are very excited to release "Crimson Riders". Nine songs which revolve around everything from cults, religion, and border patrols to beer-drinking anti-heroes and immortal space pirates! Sonically, the album gives the listener everything from classic stoner-punk tracks, groovy desert songs, and high speed trash metal, to hardcore-oriented sing-a-longs. This time we also played around with both cellos and saxophone in the studio so expect a few curveballs here and there.”
BOKASSA is out on tour with METALLICA and GHOST this summer, see all the dates below.
Enjoy today's tune!

Today I'm working on the musical dark side, heavy riffs from the Polish pit. Here on Tune Of The Day you will get the total opposite to that.
PRIEST is a synth band that creates music rooted in the vastness of electronic dreams. The goal of their multifaceted prophecy is to safely guide humanity unto the next evolutionary step – the merging with machines.
PRIEST is like a Delorean DMC-12 it will take you back to the colourful future of the '80s. The illusions presented contains everything from symmetric star prisms, a burning escape from the darkness or to break out of your inner prison. Bit by bit, fragments of a puzzle of success story is taking shape. With a mechanical sound, futuristic melodies and a masterful voice, they´ve seduced listeners all over the planet.
Today's tune "The Pit" is taken from the band's debut album "New Flesh", released in 2017. The album is produced by Alpha (ex GHOST) and features a performance by Airghoul (ex GHOST). The recording is mixed by Niklas Berglöf (SLAGSMÅLSKLUBBEN, DEAD SOUL) and is mastered by Magnus Lindberg. "New Flesh" contains 10 tracks that sounds like when 1982 imagine how 2019 should sound like. "The Pit" is released by Lövely Records. Directed by Dan Svan.
GHOST has released "the perfect love song for that special demon in your life", an erotic dance video of the tune “Dance Macabre”
“Dance Macabre” is the second music video and radio single from the Grammy-winning rock/pop band's most recent album "Prequelle"
GHOST recently sold out the very prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London, and METALLICA just announced the Swedish band will be special guest on its 25-date European stadium tour next summer. GHOST will headline its two-act "A Pale Tour Named Death" fall North American tour that starts in Dallas on October 25. The North American trek includes two headline arena shows, The Forum in Los Angeles, and New York City's Barclays Center, see all the dates below.
The video is also notable as it tells the backstory of GHOST frontman “Papa Emeritus,” and how he got his iconic look. A woman seduces one of the men, who emerges with “Papa’s” iconic face paint and punches him in the eye creating a blue and bloodshot left eye. The song itself touches on how many people coped with the Black Plague in Europe back in the 14th century by dancing and partying until they died. In other GHOST news, a lawsuit filed against GHOST mastermind Tobias Forge by former bandmates was dismissed in a Swedish court. The judge ruled in favor of Forge, forcing the ex-GHOST musicians to pay the frontman’s legal fees.

Monday, a new week and it's time to present "Record Of The Week"
The British CHURCH OF THE COSMIC SKULL is one of the most notable emerging psychedelic rock bands in the underground scene lately. With the second full-length album "Science Fiction". The album was released May 18, 2018.
CHURCH OF THE COSMIC SKULL is a twofold entity: a new religious movement who seek to free mankind from their material possessions and unify all living beings into a singular cosmic whole; and a 7-piece supergroup based in Nottingham UK playing Prog/Psych/'70s Rock/Pop.
The combination of guitar, Hammond organ, electric cello, bass, and drums is a tip of the hat to the MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA sound, but with six-part QUEEN-esque vocal harmonies, ABBA choir, GHOST melody, and THIN LIZZY pop-rock structures.
"Science Fiction" is a really fun, great sounding album with excellent tunes. It opens up with the half paced title tune "Science Fiction", organ-assisted riffs, choir vocals sing about 'the man with the silver hair', it accelerates in the choruses. Guitars and organ startup "Go by The River", with a smooth and groovy harmony, cleaver and excellent vocals arrangement make this a treat for your ears, same goes with the "Cold Sweat", a deep bassline along with a picking guitar riffs, Lynott-style vocals along with beautiful vocal toppings. "Revolution Comes With An Act Of Love", deep guitars, with lovely riffs, groovy organs, marching vocals that are not laughing to the fool. "Timehole (Gonna Build A Rocket Tonight)" is a hyperactive, desperate rocker, to the bluesy grooves in "The Cards That You’re Playing". "Paper Aeroplane & Silver Moon" starts off slowly with a church organ, naked vocals before it freakout to some psychedelic mayhem. Some lovely ballads can be found on the album like in "The Others" and album-ending "The Devil Again", both with some mournful organ chords, rich and nick picked guitars and lovely solo along with a soulful vocal performance.
"Science Fiction" is carefully arranged with astounding and flawless vocals, catchy song harmonies. That CHURCH has found a perfect combination to make an excellent and fun album that can brighten up your gray everyday life and with cool cover with the rainbow-filled artwork that makes your day.
SUM: If ABBA would have played some rock approach tunes, it might have sounded like this.
CHURCH OF THE COSMIC SKULL are:
Guitar & Vocals - Brother Bill
Keys and Vocals - Brother Michael
Vocals - Sister Caroline
Vocals - Sister Joanne
Drums - Brother Laurence
Bass & Vocals - Brother Samuel
Cello & Vocals - Sister Amy
Today's tune "Cold Sweat" is taken from "Science Fiction", enjoy!
