The Picturebooks - Corrina Corrina

Thursday, time for a cover.

"Corrine, Corrina" (sometimes "Corrina, Corrina") is a 12-bar country blues song in the AAB form. "Corrine, Corrina" was first recorded by Bo Carter (Brunswick 7080, December 1928). However, it was not copyrighted until 1932 by Armenter "Bo Carter" Chatmon and his publishers, Mitchell Parish and J. Mayo Williams. The song is familiar for its opening verse:

Corrine, Corrina, where you been so long?
Corrine, Corrina, where you been so long?
I ain't had no lovin', since you've been gone

The Mississippi Sheiks, as the Jackson Blue Boys with Papa Charlie McCoy on vocals, recorded the same song in 1930; this time as "Sweet Alberta" (Columbia 14397-D), substituting the words Sweet Alberta for Corrine, Corrina. "Corrine, Corrina" has been recorded in a number of musical styles, including blues, jazz, rock and roll, Cajun, and Western swing. The title of the song varies from recording to recording, most often with the variant "Corrina, Corrina".

Making friends on tour definitely pays off and the result of one of these friendships can be witnessed in another stunning collaboration between power duo THE PICTUREBOOKS and Neil Fallon from stoner rock legends CLUTCH.

Fynn and Philipp know how to keep themselves busy and after not being able to tour, they used their studio and all the excessive time and energy to realize some very challenging and fun projects!

With their new single “Corrina Corrina” they go down to where they feel most comfortable, the bare bones of the blues and joining them on this eerie trip is no other but Neil Fallon on vocals and Dave Dinsmore of Brant Bjork fame also guests on this track.

The Picturebooks – The Rabbit and the Wolf

THE PICTUREBOOKS are two bikers that creates a steely, enticing blues-saturated heavy rock, with Fynn playing on obscure vintage guitars he bought from thrift shops around the world, while Philipp beats a drum set that consists of the largest possible drums that he hits with heavy duty felt beaters. The set has no cymbals whatsoever and instead includes a few self-made percussion instruments with huge chains, bells, and more. It's fresh out of the grittier end of Nashville, or that’s what you’d think, if they weren’t actually German. Expect motorbikes, heavy chains, wild-eyed blues and guitars that sound like they were cooked up in a tin shed. In a very good way.

The German duo featuring Fynn Claus Grabke [vocals, guitar] and Philipp Mirtschink [drums] performs

Today's tune "The Rabbit and the Wolf" is produced by THE PICTUREBOOKS (Fynn Claus Grabke and Philipp Mirtschink). Filmed by Claus Grabke, Jim Gray, Gabriel Mann, Ben Ott, Danny Koetter and Dirk "The Pixeleye" Behlau. Edited by THE PICTUREBOOKS and Claus Grabke.

"Nothing in the video for ‘The Rabbit and the Wolf’ is staged, we just filmed what happened on tour or when hanging around with our friends, riding choppers, skating etc. Some of it was filmed in Europe and some in the US. The lyrics in the song kinda describe us and the way we feel when being on tour, so it seemed appropriate to use mostly tour-footage for the video. Most of the smaller locations in this video are what really made this band. People believed in us and gave us the chance to play, even before we were signed. We kept coming back till the place was finally packed. We owe these people a lot!"

The Picturebooks - E.L.I.Z.A.B.E.T.H.

THE PICTUREBOOKS create a sound that is thick with sweat and desert dust. The guitars are fat and covered in a layer of grime whilst the drums hammer with a Bonham like intensity. The music is dark, sombre yet somehow uplifting as they pepper the swampy riffs and thundering, simplistic drumming with choruses that resonate and offer the listener the chance to sing along.

THE PICTUREBOOKS are a German alternative rock/blues rock duo (Fynn Claus Grabke and Philipp Mirtschink) who formed after meeting a skate park. The band released the albums "Artificial Tears" and a "List of People To Kill" independently in Europe before signing to RidingEasy Records in 2014. "Imaginary Horse" was recorded in the same garage where they regularly refurbish and repair motorcycles and choppers.

Today's tune "E.L.I.Z.A.B.E.T.H." is taken from the band's album "Imaginary Horse". The video is filmed and edited by: Claus Grabke, Actress: Zilah Drawn. The video was filmed on location at Paul revere school Los Angeles, Silverado, Costa mesa
