Monday, new week, it's time for us to introduce the "Record Of The Week".
"Mad Gone Wild" is the seventh studio album by the Swedish duo JOHNOSSI since the formation of 2006, this Stockholm-based duo consists of guitarist/vocalist John Englebert and drummer Ossi Bonde.
A band that always has had a great blend between rock and pop and got the eye and feeling to create catchy and mesmerizing tunes. On "Mad Gone Wild" they continue on the path they created fifteen years ago, but they take out the turns a little more, dares, and tries to create something new and interesting, something I think they succeed with well as here the tunes are both raucous and rousing, spacey and very energetic, catchy and electronic. On this record, the duo has dug deep into their own psyches and imaginations to realize something part-concept album, part catharsis, and entirely exhilarating and hypnotic. "Is there an exact point where reason turns into madness?" is one of the questions they brought with them during the creation process. "Are we not all completely insane in our very own unique way?" is another. Drawing on influences and inspiration from thier own periods of depression and anxiety, including Franz Kafka’s "Metamorphosis" and Scorcese’s "Taxi Driver", and Joaquin Phoenix in the role of Joker. The character Roscoe who appeared a bit here and has been in the duo's music since 2010 is also returning.
"Mad Gone Wild" is a dark piece to dig into, raw and still so haunting something that flows over all eleven tracks. The record has a great feeling and atmosphere that sounds refreshing, even if it sometimes results in some songs blending into each other and passing unnoticed. The lyrics are deep with a big heart and when the pace slows down and the words come out very powerful and tunes really hit hard. As in the title tune "Mad Gone Wild" or in the ending "Screaming". There are a few other tracks that need to be noticed like opening punk rocker "Give Me The Knife", the noise rocker "Something = Nothing", the garage rocker "Yeah Yeah", which has a great piano part that is led by their third and new member Mathias Franzen, who get some great space in the short instrumental interlude "Wizards Of Os". The new wave tune and the second single "Koala Before The Storm", is a really powerful tune. and the straight-ahead noise-punk of opener and paean to knife-play and three-day-benders ‘Give Me The Knife’. "A Passenger" tickles every time thanks to its rhythmically interesting arrangement. Overall JOHNOSSI have created another great album that will get some spins over here and I recomend that you let this record loose on your turntable aswell.

"The End" is an epic song by the American rock band THE DOORS. Lead singer Jim Morrison initially wrote the lyrics about his break up with his girlfriend Mary Werbelow, but it evolved through months of performances at the Whisky a Go Go into a much longer song. THE DOORS recorded a nearly 12-minute version for their self-titled debut album, which was released on January 4, 1967.
Today's version is by the Danish indie rock duo THE RAVEONETTES, consisting of Sune Rose Wagner on guitar, instruments and vocals, and Sharin Foo on bass, guitar and vocals. Their music is characterized by close two-part vocal harmonies inspired by THE EVERLY BROTHERS coupled with hard-edged electric guitar overlaid with liberal doses of noise. Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 1950s and 1960s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats, and often dark lyrical content (e.g., crime, drugs, murder, suicide, love, lust, and betrayal), similar to another of the band's influences, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND.

"Fast Car" is a song by American singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman. It was released on April 6, 1988, as the lead single from her 1988 self-titled debut studio album. Chapman's appearance on the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute helped the song become a top-ten hit in the United States, reaching number six on the Billboard Hot 100. In the United Kingdom, it reached number four on the UK Singles Chart. "Fast Car" received two Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, as well as an MTV Video Music Award nomination for Best Female Video in 1989.
The Austin rock duo BLACK PUMAS have shared a reverent cover of Tracy Chapman’s 1988 classic, “Fast Car.” The band — which comprises singer Eric Burton and guitarist Adrian Quesada — has regularly covered “Fast Car” during their live sets.
Some beautiful guitar strumming, softish vocal performance make this a really good version of this classic tune.
“To me, ‘Fast Car’ is a song of hope, dreams and a relentless heart to go somewhere and be someone,” Burton said in a statement. “I learned the song when I first began to busk and of the covers that I knew, it garnered the most attention from the random passerby. INDIGO GIRLS are an American folk rock music duo from Atlanta, Georgia, United States, consisting of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. The two met in elementary school and began performing together as high school students in Decatur, Georgia, part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. They started performing with the name INDIGO GIRLS as students at Emory University, performing weekly at The Dugout, a bar in Emory Village.
They released a self-produced, full-length record album entitled Strange Fire in 1987, and contracted with a major record company in 1988. After releasing nine albums with major record labels from 1987 through 2007, they have now resumed self-producing albums with their own IG Recordings company.
Outside of working on INDIGO GIRLS–related projects, Ray has released solo albums and founded a non-profit organization that promotes independent musicians, while Saliers is an entrepreneur in the restaurant industry as well as a professional author; she also collaborates with her father, Don Saliers, in performing for special groups and causes. Saliers and Ray are both lesbians and are active in political and environmental causes.
Today's tune "Closer To Fine" is taken from the second self titled studio album and first major label release. It was originally released in 1989 by Epic Records, and reissued and remastered in 2000 with two bonus tracks.
Upon its release, the album received mostly positive reviews from critics, went gold after six months and eventually went platinum. The duo was nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy (losing to MILLI VANILLI), and won one for Best Contemporary Folk Recording.
Michael Stipe sang on "Kid Fears", and the other members of R.E.M. performed on "Tried to Be True". In addition, the Irish band HOTHOUSE FLOWERS contributed background vocals on several tracks, notably "Closer to Fine". Enjoy!
The Canadian blues rock duo THE BLUE STONES has resently released thier new album "Hidden Gems".
The band has released multiple songs as singles leading into their highly anticipated sophomore album release, "Hidden Gems", in Mars, 2021. The first of those is "Shakin’ Off The Rust", see it below, a tune, as Jafar explains, that very much serves as a mission statement for their renewed sense of confidence and newfound identity.
Although THE BLUE STONES were always more than a blues-rock duo, that’s especially true now on "Hidden Gems". The album was co-written and produced by Mutemath frontman Paul Meany. The ten song album was preceded by singles "Shakin' Off The Rust," "Grim," "Careless," "Let It Ride," and "Spirit." "Hidden Gems" was released on March 19, 2021.

"Eld // Ljus" is the new single by the Swedish duo JOHNOSSI, it's the very first time in their long career, they are releasing a song in the Swedish language. It’s a new take on their "Torch // Flame" tune called "Eld // Ljus".
As JOHNOSSI comment the tune: "It feels both exciting and strange at the same time. We have been a band since 2003. Six albums. All in English. Writing and singing in English has always been the most natural thing for me (John).
I suppose it's because when I was a child I listened almost exclusively to English-language artists and it was through them that I formed my own musical expression. It is extremely rare that I even consider writing and singing in Swedish throughout the years. But something happened at Christmas. I (John) listened to our, when not yet released, song "Torch // Flame" and suddenly some sentences in Swedish came to me.
Hmm, interesting I thought and paused the song. I took out my guitar, played "Torch // Flame" and started singing the sentences that had just come to me. It felt good, so I was looking for more images to put words into, and thankfully it just kept coming in a steady flow. I recorded my voice memo and after a while, I had written my first lyrics in Swedish ever.
I secretly recorded it in the studio and eventually presented it to the others. In principle, we decided directly that it deserved to be released. So it is not a direct translation of the English lyric, it is a completely standalone Swedish version. So. Here it is. We call it "Eld // Ljus"."
JOHNOSSI is a rock duo from Saltsjöbaden, Stockholm County, Sweden, consisting of songwriter, singer, guitarist John Engelbert and drummer, percussionist, singer Oskar "Ossi" Bonde.
Their music is characterized by a full guitar sound supported by Engelbert's unorthodox guitar rig and myriad effects pedals, and Bonde's straightforward beats; studio releases often feature colorful percussion accents on instruments such as tambourine, woodblock, guiro, and chimes. A variety of musical styles appear in their work, from hard rock, to blues riffs, post-punk, and even gloom-pop, though lyrical themes are almost uniformly personal and slightly angsty.

"Spiritual Instinct" is the sixth full-length release for the French blackgaze duo of Neige and Winterhalter in ALCEST.
Once again these lads have given us a breathtaking piece of music - a gateway to the otherworldly.
"Spiritual Instinct" is an atmospheric journey through light and darkness, exploring to find the Spiritual Instinct. The album was written in bursts both during and after a prolonged period of touring in support of 2016’s hugely successful "Kodama". "Spiritual Instinct" follows the same path as their precursor, a record full of spontaneity and greatness.
The album opens up with the breath-taking pace of "Les Jardin De Minuit", a real beauty with excellent vocals and guitar playing so the saliva starts to drip until it rolls over to the first single and the melancholy piece "Protection". This continues with a slow methodical pounding in "Sapphire" where Winterhalter shows his skills in drumming. The darkens fall over us in the dramatic and epic number "L’Île Des Morts" and the emotional piece "Le Miroir" where all the emotions will bubble in your body. The album closes up with the title tune "Spiritual Instinct" where the lights and darkness finally find it's meaning or does it?
The band has undoubtedly crafted one hell of an album. It's a massive piece that will take a few spins to get a grip on, but one you do, you will discover its hole beauty. "Spiritual Instinct" was released by Nuclear Blast on October 25th, the album was produced by Benoît Roux.

William spent a lot of time with Benoît Roux and ALCEST at Drudenhaus Studio in order to capture their moods, as well as glimpses of the long journey that was this recording process. "Protection (Acoustic Instrumental Version)“ is played in the background.

Drum and guitar duo VOLGA, Erik Gille and Felix Pietucha, based in Stockholm. With the DIY releases of singles "On My Own", "Don't Wanna Know", "Shame" and "In The Blanks", VOLGA have paved way for the debut album "Dead Man's Hand" (released on July 5th 2019), fully presenting what has surprised audiences around Sweden since 2016. Is it Halloween yet? Silly question, it’s Halloween all year round for BLOODY HAMMERS! The American hard rock duo has prepared a wonderfully creepy horror musical experience that pays homage to classic flicks such as "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie" (1974) and "Now The Screaming Starts" (1973).
BLOODY HAMMERS was founded in 2012 by Anders Manga in Transylvania County, North Carolina. Manga is the primary producer, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist. BLOODY HAMMERS music straddles a range of genres including heavy metal, gothic rock, doom metal and psychedelic rock. The touring band features a revolving lineup with Manga and keyboardist Devallia being the only permanent live members. Devallia also contributes keyboard parts to recordings, is sometimes credited as a co-producer.
The band will release their fifth album "The Summoning" in June 28th, 2019. "The Summoning" is the BLOODY HAMMERS idea of a soundtrack for your favorite video nasties holds some surprises on their upcoming album.
TELEKINETIC YETI is a 2 piece Stoner Rock/Doom band based out of Iowa that was formed by Alex Baumann and Anthony Dreyer in March of 2015.
TELEKINETIC YETI has been impressing audiences across the US with their high energy performances and thunderous live sound. They dropped their first official music video on January 1, 2017, which racked up 172,000 views by the end of the year. They released their debut full-length album "Abominable" on March 17, 2017, which has received many rave reviews by metal/rock websites and ranked on several best albums of 2017 lists. In 2017 and 2018 they also toured most of the US and parts of Canada alongside sludge metal legends WEEDEATER as well as the Swedish stoner rock legends TRUCKFIGHTERS and the Greece rockers 1000MODS.
It will be interesting to see what two guys that sound this big only some strings and skins can come up with after this.

GOBLINSMOKER was started as a one man project by Adam Kennedy in Durham in late 2016. Having spent a number of years touring with his previous band, Adam wanted to write a record that embraced his biggest and favoured musical influences. Taking the seething bleakness of black metal and combining it with the fuzz soaked riff worship of doom.
Adam set about not only writing the record but also creating a mythology that would be fully entwined in the band’s sound, lyrical content and art. The band would focus on telling the story of the Toad King, the discontented ruler of the goblins and their forest home. A place where goblin subjects would willing sacrifice themselves to be smoked by their King.
After laying down the foundations of the songs, Adams long term friend Calum Young offered to play the drums on the record, embracing the sound and the story. The next year was spent polishing the songs and the essence of the band.
In mid 2018 GOBLINSMOKER entered the recording studio, recording with Adam’s long term recording partner Joe at No Studio in Manchester. The record was recorded with Adam on guitars, bass and vocal duty and Calum on drums. After a weekend of countless fuzz pedal combinations and too much time spent listening to toad samples, the first instalment of the story was complete. ‘Toad King’ was born.

The Trondheim noise rock duo BARREN WOMB is an interesting combo, with their latest album "Old Money / New Lows" and loads touring they finally find their way into Tune Of The Day.
Armed with nothing more than drums, guitars and their voices, they rely mostly on crude dynamics and the power of the riff to hammer their point across. Since their inception in late 2011, the Nordic Heavy Noise Rockers have been raising both eyebrows and hell with their minimalistic approach, earsplitting volume and defiant experimentation. The duo, comprising singer/drummer Timo Silvola and singer/guitarist Tony Gonzalez, make efficient use of crude dynamics and the power of the riff to hammer their point across.
The album was recorded live and mixed by Håkon Gebhardt (MOTORPSYCHO, Bertine Zetlitz, Ida Jenshus), with mastering duties handled by Keijo Niinimaa (ROTTEN SOUND, MORBID EVILS). Adorning the cover is an original painting by artist and longtime collaborator Ole Spangrud. The Doom/Stoner Duo FRAYLE was formed in Cleveland in 2017 by Sean Bilovecky and Gwyn Strang.
FRAYLEs “lullabies over chaos” approach to songwriting and their strive to balance the heaviest of riffs, complex layering, tone stacking, syncopated rhythms, with unexpected vocal progressions of Gwyn’s haunting vocal melodies.
Gwyn tells stories of heartbreak, anger, hypocrisy, and resolution, asking the audience for empathy, and in turn inspiring vulnerability.
Drawing inspiration from bands like SLEEP, PORTISHEAD, BEASTWARS, BLONDE REDHEAD, KYUSS, MASSIVE ATTACK, DOWN, CHELSEA WOLFE, and many more, FRAYLE exists at the intersection of doom and dream pop.
They released their "White Witch" on April 1st, 2018, the opens drop tuned and eerie and continues to draw the listener in with heavy slow riffs, light spooky vocals, and doleful lyrics.
Work has already begun on a new full-length album with release pending this summer. Frayle promises to further explore the relationship between crushing riffs and ethereal fragility.

THE GRAVELTONES are a 2 piece heavy blues rock and roll band consisting of members Jimmy O (guitar/vocals) and Mikey Sorbello (drums). The band are currently based in London. THE GRAVELTONES are influenced by artists such as Captain Beefheart, John Lee Hooker and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE.

The Mexican instrumental guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela break the silence with their first new music in four years. "Cumbé", a tune that was recorded live at their Lumbini studio in Ixtapa, Mexico, gives a tantalizing glimpse their new album currently in the works and according to a press release the title of the tune translates to “the dance of people of color.”
The pair also revealed that they will release their fifth studio record in “early 2019,” and they’ve scheduled a lengthy US tour, including stops at the Hollywood Bowl, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas, and more, see the dates below.
Rodrigo y Gabriela (Rodrigo and Gabriela) are a Mexican classical guitar duo whose music is influenced by a number of genres including nuevo flamenco, rock, and heavy metal. The duo's recordings consist largely of instrumental duets on the flamenco guitar. Currently residing in Mexico City, they began their career in Dublin, Ireland, during an eight-year stay. They have released five studio albums, three live albums and one EP.
