Depeche Mode - Where's the Revolution

The British electronic band DEPECHE MODE released their fourteenth studio album "Spirit", released on 17 March 2017 by Columbia Records. It is the band's second album released under Columbia and was produced by James Ford. On 11 October 2016, the band announced on its website that it would embark on the Global Spirit Tour to support the album. The Summer 2017 European stadium tour will begin in Stockholm on 5 May 2017 and end in AB Rogers Place, Edmonton on 28 October, see all dates below.

The band that formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex. The group consists of founders Dave Gahan (lead vocals, occasional songwriter since 2005), Martin Gore (guitar, keyboards, vocals, main songwriter since 1982), and Andy Fletcher (keyboards, bass guitar). DEPECHE MODE released their debut album Speak & Spell in 1981, bringing the band onto the British new wave scene. Original band member Vince Clarke (keyboards, guitar, main songwriter from 1980 to 1981), left the band after the release of the album, leaving the band as a trio to record A Broken Frame, released the following year. Gore took over the lead songwriting duties and, later in 1982, Alan Wilder (keyboards, drums, bass guitar, occasional songwriter) officially joined the band to fill Clarke's spot, establishing a line up that would continue for the next 13 years. DEPECHE MODE have been a trio again since 1995, when Wilder left.

Today's tune "Where's the Revolution" is a song taken from "Spirit". It was released as the album's first single on 3 February 2017, on the 20th anniversary of "Barrel of a Gun". The cover art is made by Anton Corbijn. Single was premiered on the Polish radio Trójka - Polskie Radio Program III at midnight on 3 February. Enjoy!

Sammy Hagar - Personal Jesus

Today I thought we should focus on a song that has been remade by more than one artist over the years. The song I think of Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode.

The song was inspired by the book Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley. According to songwriter Martin Gore:

It's a song about being a Jesus for somebody else, someone to give you hope and care. It's about how Elvis was her man and her mentor and how often that happens in love relationships; how everybody's heart is like a god in some way, and that's not a very balanced view of someone, is it?

Since its release, the song has been covered by numerous artists including Gravity Kills, Marilyn Manson, Sammy Hagar, Jerry Williams, Lollipop Lust Kill, Nina Hagen, Richard Cheese, and Johnny Cash.

Todays version is by Sammy Hagar who also known as The Red Rocker, is an American rock vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and musician. Hagar came to prominence in the 1970s with the hard rock band Montrose. He afterwards launched a successful solo career, scoring an enduring hit in 1984 with "I Can't Drive 55". He enjoyed huge commercial success when he replaced David Lee Roth as the lead singer of Van Halen in 1985, but left the band in 1996. He returned to the band for a 2 year reunion from 2003 to 2005. On March 12, 2007, Hagar was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Van Halen.

Outside of music, he founded the Cabo Wabo Tequila brand and restaurant chain, as well as Sammy's Beach Bar Rum. He currently resides in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and also has a residence in Mill Valley, California. His present musical project is as lead singer of Chickenfoot.

Todays song is taken from his first-ever rock collaborations album, "Sammy Hagar And Friends". The record arrived in stores on September 24, 2013 via Frontiers.

This is a career-defining record for Sammy, where he masterfully assembled a diverse selection of songs that delve into rock, country, blues and pop. Featured Guest Appearances: Kid Rock, Neal Schon (Santana, Journey, HSAS), Joe Satriani, Chad Smith, Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen, Chickenfoot), Taj Mahal, Ronnie Dunn (Brooks & Dunn), Toby Keith, Nancy Wilson (Heart), Bill Church & Denny Carmassi (Montrose), The Wabos and more on a epic collection of 10 new songs!

Todays tune "Personal Jesus" (Originally recorded by Depeche Mode and the writer is Martin Gore). This tune features Michael Anthony / Neal Schon / Chad Smith, enjoy!

Record Madness: D

Record Madness is a project between Metal blog and Tune Of The Day, a project that have now been running for some time.

In short, its based on a closer look at our record collection, and the rules are relatively simple.

There will be challenges between us. Everything is about to dive into the shelf and pick up the records with the letter which you have been challenged with. One tells stories, shows pictures, a little anecdotes, or anything that affects the character that is current at the moment. The posts ends with a challenge in the form of a letter from the alphabet sent to Chief Rebel on Metal blog. Then he makes the same thing with his record shelf (hey CD!) But with his twist and his angle on it before he sends back a letter. Then it all goes back and forth like a pinball machine, but in slow motion.

Everything started with "Chief Rebel" who dived into the letter "A", and wrote a mammoth post with lots of pictures of what was in his record shelf under the letter A. Then he has described what he has under "R","G", "U" and now latest "S" (ARGUS) - Like the album title of Wishbone Ash third album from 1972.

Now we have come up a bit in the process and I have harvested both the letter "L", "Q", "B", "U" and today we'll see what is hidden behind the letter "D"(LQBUD) <-- br="" bud="" light="" nbsp="">
Alright let's get it going. "D" a pretty big letter, that contains a lot of classics and some new stuff, "D" has the perfect standing height in the record shelf, almost bull's-eye, in other words, like the first place where your hand touches in before you figured out what you really are looking for. Once I have browsed through the albums, it is just like some other letters, are a lot of holes to fill in. For example, I have more records that I need for this letter and there is some few that I don't have that I would love to get my hands on.

As the end of this record Madness, we see a picture with a bunch of picks on the letter D, a little hobby I have.
Can you see which band it is?

I really hope I got it all now, but have I missed one or two images, so be it.
That was it, a rich entrie, with a pretty wide spectrum of music, one sees that there are a lot of holes of course that must be filled in, things that I have to work on.
Anyway, I hope it was an interesting reading.

Now we throw the ball to Cheif and challenge him in the letter "T",
will probably be a little less vigorous summer reflection, may well be a lot of candy there, who knows, eg Testament?

Todays tune will be posted later on this evening, based on the letter "D" of course.

Cheers
