The English pop rock band TEARS FOR FEARS are back and have released the band’s first new album in 17 years, "The Tipping Point". I do not want to say that I am a pop string, but I must say that this sounds very good so I have to share the video for "No Small Thing", the second single and opening track off the new album
As TEARS FOR FEARS previously told Rolling Stone, after years of false starts and failed collaborations when recording their new album, “No Small Thing” marked a breakthrough for the band, as Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith sat down in a room together to write music for the first time since their teen years.
“In early 2020, Curt and I sat down together with just a couple of acoustic guitars. The first time in decades. We needed a meeting of minds, a coming together psychically. We were literally going back to the drawing board looking for some depth, heart and soul with which to complete our album. Curt came up with this simple folk/country riff, a little bit Dylan, a little bit Johnny Cash, and then we were off. It was the complete opposite of what we had been trying to do for many years – searching for the elusive, modern hit single. We felt suddenly unencumbered, free if you like, no longer worrying about the market, about success, but drawing on influences from our childhoods. It was at this point that the whole album started opening up. ‘No Small Thing’ was the key, the thing that turned a red light green,” - Roland Orzabal
"No Small Thing" feels like it could have been a song from a seventies or sixties acoustic folk album with how the track starts. The fact that we felt confident enough to go from there to the end of the song to where it’s just absolute mayhem speaks to that sense of freedom, and that’s our comfort zone musically.” - Curt Smith
Today tune "No Small Thing", taken from the new album "The Tipping Point", enjoy!
"To Hell With Poverty" is a tune by the English post-punk band GANG OF FOUR, formed in 1976 in Leeds.
The tune was released a single in UK but not in US, so the "Another Day/Another Dollar" EP, released in 1982 in the US, by Warner Bros. Records. The release is a compilation of material previously unreleased in the US. The first two tracks were released in the UK as a single. The third track is the b-side of the UK only single "What We All Want," and the last two tracks are excerpted from a live show recorded at the Hammersmith Palais, in London, on 3/30/81. All five songs from the EP later appeared on the EMI Records and Infinite Zero Archive/American Recordings's 1995 CD reissue of the 1981 LP "Solid Gold".
Today's tune "To Hell With Poverty", with an TV live clip of tune, filmed 1980, enjoy!
SQUID is an English post-punk band from Brighton, England. They are currently based in London. Squid released their debut EP on Speedy Wunderground, Town Centre, in 2019 and have since released four singles on Warp Records. Their debut album, "Bright Green Field", was released by Warp Records on 7 May 2021.
Taking advantage of lockdown, the band spend most of 2020 recording what would be their debut full length album, "Bright Green Field", again working with producer Dan Carey. The album was released on 7 May 2021 and was promoted by three singles, "Narrator", "Paddling" and "Pamphlets". It was well received by critics.
Today's tune "Pamphlets", taken from the debut album "Bright Green Field", the video is by Raman Djafari.
Unsettling? Yes!, Hopeful? Yes!, Life affirming? I wouldn't go that far... but close!, Enjoy.
“The video for "Pamphlets" is a meditation on the feeling of being unfit, unlovable, not compatible and the manic anxiety and stress that this results in. I wanted to explore a state of mind that I have found myself in many times, of fearing to go outside and being confronted with everything that one cannot love about themselves.
Rooted in trauma that is as personal as it is always connected to society at large, harmful self-images are incredibly hard to escape. The fear of being rejected for the ways one is marked as different and perceived as such, manifested in the presence and gaze of others, becomes the way we see ourselves. We internalize the rejection that we are subjected to. As a result, there is the urge to hide away, suppress and judge whatever it is that we have been taught to hate. Thus detaching from the self and thereby detaching from others.
This is a video that relates to my own experiences as well as it is a solidarisation with everyone that has been made to feel this way.” Raman Djafari
TV PRIEST are an English rock band formed in London in 2019. The band consists of Charlie Drinkwater (vocals), Nic Bueth (bass and keyboard), Alex Sprogis (guitar), Ed Kelland (drums).
They signed to Sub Pop after only having played one gig in an industrial freezer in November 2019, with other concerts cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their debut album, "Uppers", was released on 5 February 2021 by Sub Pop.
Life isn’t quite like that though, and the debut album from London four-piece TV PRIEST instead embraces the beautiful and terrifying unknowns that exist personally, politically, and culturally.
Posing as many questions as it answers, "Uppers" is a thunderous opening statement that continues the UK’s recent resurgence of grubby, furious post-punk music. It says something very different though – something completely its own.
The first impression of "Uppers" got me thinking of the Swedish V**AGRA BOYS, even if they make it thier own creation, but it may be the best parable if you need somekind of lead.
Today's tune "Press Gang" taken from their album "Uppers", Release February 5 via Sub Pop Records. The video was directed by Joe Wheatley. Enjoy!
"Wrong name, wrong face, wrong time, wrong place." Is the first line of today's classic "I Want The Moon", taken from the English punk band LEATHERFACE's third full-length album "Mush". It was originally released only in Britain on Roughneck, a subsidiary of Fire Records, in 1991. It was re-released on Seed Records, an offshoot of Atlantic Records, in 1992, in an unsuccessful attempt to capitalize on the popularity of NIRVANA in the United States.
The Guardian called it an album "which has influenced every hardcore, post-hardcore, call it what you want, punk group that exists anywhere across the globe." Kerrang rated it as one of the 50 best albums of 1991.
In 2012, Sarah Anderson of NME named it one of "20 lost albums ripe for rediscovery", and the same magazine named it the 49th best album of 1991 in 2016.
LEATHERFACE were a British punk rock band from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, fronted by Frankie Stubbs. Trouser Press called them "England's finest, most exciting punk band of the 90s" and The Guardian has called them "the greatest British punk band of the modern era."
Enjoy today's tune "I Want The Moon", taken from the album "Mush".
"The Chauffeur" is a song by English band DURAN DURAN, taken from their second album "Rio", originally released worldwide on 10 May 1982.
DURAN DURAN are an English new wave band formed in Birmingham in 1978. The group was a leading band in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US in the 1980s. The group was formed by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and bassist John Taylor, with the later addition of drummer Roger Taylor, and after numerous personnel changes, guitarist Andy Taylor (none of the Taylors are related) and lead singer Simon Le Bon. These five members featured in the most commercially successful line-up.
Like several other songs on Rio, "The Chauffeur" contains sound samples thanks to Nicks Fairlight CMI - the world's first commercial sampler. According to a question on Ask Katy, the sample was taken “from a nature record that the band found. The man is talking about ‘insects in the grass’". No track or album under this name has yet been discovered.
Today's tune "The Chauffeur" was directed by Ian Emes and is one of two non-single tracks on Rio to have its own music video. None of the band appear in the video at all. It is a moody black-and-white piece inspired in part by the film, The Night Porter, and the photography of Helmut Newton. Two women dress themselves carefully in lingerie and drive through the streets of London towards a rendezvous with each other in an abandoned multi-storey car park. The instrumental end piece of the song was accompanied by a topless Perri Lister performing a sensuous dance - clearly an homage to Charlotte Rampling's topless "Dance of the Seven Veils" in The Night Porter.
"Private Life" is a 1980 song written by Chrissie Hynde, and released by both English band THE PRETENDERS, and Jamaican singer Grace Jones in 1980.
The tune is taken from the debut studio album by British-American band THE PRETENDERS, released on 27 December 1979 on Sire Records in the US and on 7 January 1980 under Real Records in the UK. A combination of rock, punk and pop music, this album made the band famous. The album features the singles "Stop Your Sobbing", "Kid" and "Brass in Pocket".
Enjoy today's classic where THE PRETENDERS performs the "Private Life" at Rockpalast 17/07/1981. Here you see a bit pissed off Chrissie about the cameras in the audience.
Some 40 years into one of music’s most impactful partnerships, TEARS FOR FEARS have arrived together at "The Tipping Point" – the group’s ambitious, accomplished & surprising first new studio album in nearly 2 decades.
TEARS FOR FEARS are an English pop rock band formed in Bath, England, in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced GRADUATE, TEARS FOR FEARS were initially associated with the new wave synthesizer bands of the early 1980s. Later, the band branched out into more mainstream pop and attained international chart success. TEARS FOR FEARS were part of the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US.
"The Tipping Point" is an upcoming album by TEARS FOR FEARS, set to be released on 25 February 2022. It is the seventh studio album by the band.
Tracks on the album include "The Tipping Point", which was released with a music video in October 2021, see it below, as well as "My Demons", "Please Be Happy", and "Stay". "Stay" was previously released on the group's 2017 compilation "Rule The World: The Greatest Hits". Track lyrics were inspired by the death of Roland Orzabal’s wife in 2017.
Today's tune "The Tipping Point" is the title tune from the upcoming album, where the new single cycle that vividly recalls the depth & emotional force of the group’s earliest triumphs. The music video for the tune was directed by Matt Mahurin. Enjoy!
Easter, also called Pascha (Greek, Latin) Påskdagen (In Swedish) or Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD. It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent (or Great Lent), a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.
"Easter" is a song from English neo-progressive rock band MARILLIONs 1989 album "Seasons End", which became a UK Top 40 hit when issued as a single in 1990. Allmusic describe the song as "heartfelt" with an "imaginative electric-acoustic arrangement". As with many MARILLION songs, the album version features an extended guitar solo by Steve Rothery, which has become a fan-favorite, although it is heavily edited for the single version. The song was written by singer Steve Hogarth before he joined the band in 1989 and was inspired by The Troubles in Northern Ireland. The title is in reference to Easter 1916 by William Butler Yeats. Portions of the video were filmed on the Giants Causeway.
Forget everything you know about Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes. Cast aside the savage brilliance of 2015 debut "Blossom" and Top Ten follow up "Modern Ruin". Erase from your mind a live show which remains the most thrillingly visceral experience in contemporary rock. Because everything they’ve done up until now has been leading to their jaw-dropping third album, "End Of Suffering".
Just six months in the making, End Of Suffering - named after the Buddhist term for enlightenment- is the sound of a band entering an entirely new realm of the senses. A forty minute rock’n’rollercoaster of molten-hot bangers, scorched-soul ballads and grunge lullabies laced through with a lacerating lyrical honesty, it’s both a stadium sized declaration of intent and a deeply personal cri-de-coeur.
Recording in Blackwood’s ‘shoebox-sized’ studio in Clapham, the band tapped into this kinetic energy, laying tracks down quickly rather than trying to recapture the feel of the demos. Following additional sessions at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, a final layer of sonic stardust came via mixing legend Alan Moulder (NINE INCH NAILS/QOTSA).
The result is End Of Suffering. it pulsates with ideas, energy and –crucially- cracking tunes. ‘Kitty Sucker’ - where Frank leers “I’m a punk rock renegade/ A tattooed motherfucker dripping lust for decade” is designed to create mosh pit mayhem, while Tyrant Lizard King is more vicious still- the musical equivalent of a bloodthirsty knifefight between Muse and Kasabian on the set of Peaky Blinders.
Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes will perform at Park Stage on Saturday 6/29, 1:30pm-2:15pm
Today's tune "Crowbar" is taken from the latest album "End Of Suffering", enjoy!
Monday, new week and Im still in Gothenburg, No "Record Of THe Week" this week, Im still influenced by the festival Way Out West, a few days more and hopefully in the middle of week I will do a wrap up and continue on the normal path, so stay with me and get a chance to listen to something totally different that in normal will be played on this blog.
THE XX are for sure one of very few odd and different bands in 21st century Europe. Romy, Oliver and Jamie played in Slottsskogen this weekend at Way Out West!
THE XX are an English indie band formed in 2005 in Wandsworth, London, and currently consists of Romy Madley Croft (guitar, vocals), Oliver Sim (bass, vocals) and Jamie Smith (beats, MPC, production), also known as Jamie xx. They are best known for their distinct and unique minimalistic sound that blends the likes of indie pop, indie electronic, dream pop and electronic rock and the dual vocalist setup of both Croft and Sim.
"I See You" was released in January and is the follow up to THE XXs two previous albums – "xx" and "Coexist" – which have sold over 3 million copies between them, winning a host of accolades along the way. The album marks a new era for the London trio, both sonically and in terms of process. For while xx and Coexist were both made in relative isolation in London, I See You was recorded between March 2014 and August 2016 in New York, Marfa TX, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London, and is characterised by a more outward-looking, open and expansive approach. "I See You" is THE XX at their boldest yet, performing with more clarity and ambition than ever before.
Today's tune "On Hold" is a song by English indie pop band THE XX. It was released on 10 November 2016 as the lead single from their third studio album, "I See You" (2017). The song was produced by band member Jamie xx as well as frequent collaborator Rodaidh McDonald. The instrumental samples "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" by HALL & OATES. Vocals are sung back-and-forth between Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim.
MEMORIAM was primarily developed to fill the void that was left following the tragic death of Martin "Kiddie" Kearns, the drummer from BOLT THROWER, back in September 2015.
BOLT THROWER subsequently placed all activity on hold for the foreseeable future which gave Karl Willetts an opportunity to develop a new project with friends that had expressed interest in forming a band for some time.
MEMORIAM are an old-school death metal band, maintaining the high standards set by their previous bands, focusing on the themes of death, loss and war. Initially the band members got together to play covers of songs that had influenced them throughout their careers within the death metal scene, however it soon became apparent that the new songs that they created were of a superior standard.
Karl Willetts - Bolt Thrower, Frank Healy - Benediction, Sacrilege, Andy Whale - Ex Bolt Thrower, Scott Fairfax - Ex Life Denied, Benediction
The band has a full album of material scheduled for recording during the spring of 2017, titled »For The Fallen«. But before their label debut is released, a brand-new EP will shorten the wait for all death metal fans. The EP called »The Hellfire Demos II«, out on January 2017, will contain two demo versions of new tracks from this Old School death metal machine and taking the same line as BOLT THROWER and BENEDICTION.
How The Band Came To Be
Today's tune "Reduced To Zero" from the debut album "For The Fallen" Out March 24th, 2017.
CHURCH OF THE COSMIC SKULL is a twofold entity: a new religious movement who seek to free mankind from their material possessions and unify all living beings into a singular cosmic whole; and a 7-piece supergroup based in Nottingham UK playing Prog/Psych/'70s Rock/Pop. For fans of BLACK MOUNTAIN, GHOST, KING GIZZARD, UNCLE ACID. The combination of guitar, hammond organ, electric cello, bass and drums is a tip of the hat to the MAHAVISHUU ORCHESTRA sound, but with six-part QUEEN-esque vocal harmonies and THIN LIZZY pop-rock structures.
Brought together by songwriter Bill Fisher, the group features some of the best musicians in the universe:
Michael Wetherburn - Hammond Organ & BV (HELLSET ORCHESTRA, ULYSSES STROM)
Loz Stone - Drums (IRON SWAN, RESCUED BY WOLVES)
Sam Lloyd - Bass & BV (YOU SLUT!, PILGRIM FATHERS)
Jo Joyce - Backing Vocals (Solo Artist)
Amy Nicholson - Electric Cello & BV (HELLSET ORCHESTRA, POLYMATH)
Caroline Cawley - Backing Vocals (DYSTOPIAN FUTURE MOVIES, CLUB AC30)
Bill Fisher - Guitar & LV (MAMMOTHWING, DISTILLERY BLUES BAND)

SYD ARTHUR have released a new album "Apricity", today we will play the title track of this folk, Krautrock and saucer-eyed psychedelia jazz band from Canterbury, UK. The band was formed in 2003 by brothers frontman Liam and bassist Joel Magill, drummer Fred Rother and violinist Raven Bush. Rother was officially replaced by the Magills' younger brother Josh in 2016.
SYD ARTHUR is a group who’ve opened for PAUL WELLER and YES and are about to tour with JAKE BUGG.
Today's tune "Apricity", the title track from the new album. It was released on 21 October, 2016.
Directed by Liam Magill, Filmed & Edited by Gavin Bush & Projections by Oliver ChiltonP. The Video shows SYD ARTHUR hunched over their instruments playing in near darkness, lit only by flashing shapes and amorphous blobs of colour. It’s suggestive of that clip in most BBC4 documentaries about the ’60s, the one with PINK FLOYD at the UFO club lit only by flashing shapes and amorphous blobs of colour. "Apricity" is oddball, trippy pop music that leapfrogs boundaries and eras.

MÖNGÖL HÖRDE is an English hardcore punk band formed in 2012. The group features Frank Turner on vocals, Ben Dawson on drums and Matt Nasir on guitar. Turner and Dawson are both former members of hardcore punk outfit MILLION DEAD. Frank Turner is now best known for his solo folk-punk material, and Matt Nasir is part of his backing band, THE SLEEPING SOULS. Lyrically, MÖNGÖL HÖRDE is not as serious as Frank Turner's other projects, with Turner stating, "Lyrically it's very different from what I do now, it's kind of depraved. The first song we wrote is about Natalie Portman's tapeworm using her as a glove puppet to lead an uprising in Hollywood. We're writing a whole pile of new songs and we're going to do some live dates soon."
The band made their live débuts at free shows in London and Leeds in the two days before the band played on the Lock Up Stage at Reading and Leeds Festival.
Today's tune "Make Way" is taken from their self-titled debut album was released on 26 May 2014.
From the urban dwellings in central London comes a trio of cosmopolitan citizens harboring some of the finest pop sensabilities heard this side of the millennium.
DAUGHTER is an indie folk band from England. Fronted by North London native Elena Tonra (born 15 January 1990), they were formed in 2010 after the addition of Swiss-born guitarist Igor Haefeli and drummer Remi Aguilella from France.
With a debut album as beautiful as "If You Leave", which they dropped in 2013, they were destined to be embraced by more than just their closest friends. And yes they were! After touring supporting Ben Howard around Europe and the USA they’ve become one of our dearest darlings whose every step we watch intensely. With their follow-up "Not To Disappear" now in the hands of eager fans we’re more than thrilled to have them on-board the Way Out West line-up, and they did a very nice performance, even if the play time was a bit early.
Today's tune "No Care" is taken from the bands latest release "Not To Disappear", enjoy!

DEF LEPPARD's Frank Gryner-directed video for the song "Man Enough" is the latest tune taken off the band's latest, self-titled studio album.
DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen told TeamRock about "Man Enough": "I had this bass riff floating around my head, and I wanted it to have a similar vibe to 'Billy Jean' by Michael Jackson — almost a disco vibe. I didn't know what it was going to be called, then I played it to Joe [Elliott, vocals]; we went to [drummer] Rick Allen's 50th birthday, and he said, 'Shit! I've got a great idea for this song! And it's called 'Are You Man Enough To Be My Girl'. People have said it reminds them of 'Another One Bites The Dust' by QUEEN. It has this dancey appeal. Our song 'All Night' was a bit like that, and 'Excitable' on 'Hysteria'. But I think this is the first time we've really made it work. It just fell into place, and I think that's because we didn’t restrict ourselves. Every song on the album's like that. It was, like, 'Fuck everybody. This album was done for us.' It wasn't a business venture. We really didn't care what anybody thought. We went to town on it; it was a lot of fun."
"Def Leppard" was recorded in early 2015 at Elliott's studio in Dublin, Ireland. The disc marked the group's first new collection of material in seven years and eleventh official studio release.
DEF LEPPARD's highly anticipated U.S. summer tour kicks off in Boston, Massachusetts at the Xfinity Center on June 22 and wraps up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the U.S. Cellular Center on October 10. The Live Nation-promoted outing will storm through cities across all parts of the U.S. and Canada.

"After Forever" is a song by English rock band BLACK SABBATH. The song was released on their third studio album Master of Reality in 1971, and later the same year it had been released as the first single from the album, but failed to chart anywhere. The lyrics were written by Geezer Butler while the music was written by Tony Iommi.
The lyrics of the song "After Forever", written by Geezer Butler, a proclaimed Catholic, focus entirely on Christian themes. Although the album jacket credits Iommi alone as the composer of this song (including lyrics), the BLACK SABBATH Black Box Set refutes the album jacket credit and gives credit to this song (along with "Orchid" and "Embryo") to all four band members in keeping with their wishes to remain a democratic band. At the time, some viewed BLACK SABBATH as Satanists (which the band had consistently denied) due to their dark sound, image and lyrics. "After Forever" was released as a single along with "Fairies Wear Boots" in 1971. Rolling Stone reviewer Lester Bangs criticized the Christian theme of "After Forever" as too obvious, but welcomed the arrangement, while Wilson & Alroy's called the guitar sound "crude but effective".
I have been pretty lucky these last few weeks, as during my work I get the chance to see many good artist playing live all around the world and during these last weeks I have been given time to watch BLACK SABBATH play twice, almost 3 times during a two weeks period.
I saw SABBATH at Graspop, almost at Hellfest and yesterday at Copenhell, kinda cool.
Here is a few pictures from a magic night with BLACK SABBATH.
Here is the setlist from yesterday.
