"As I Try Not To Fall Apart" is the sixth full-length release for British trio WHITE LIES was produced by Ed Buller and Claudius Mittendorfer. Released 18th February 2022.
WHITE LIES have been known for their moody and anthemic songs, where the tunes mostly were melancholy and brooding and somehow this feels different to previous outings, but I have heard it to few times to make a review but I will share the title track.
The album had four singles released ahead of its release: the title track, "I Don't Want to Go to Mars", "Am I Really Going to Die", and "Blue Drift".
"The Chauffeur" is a song by English band DURAN DURAN, taken from their second album "Rio", originally released worldwide on 10 May 1982.
DURAN DURAN are an English new wave band formed in Birmingham in 1978. The group was a leading band in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US in the 1980s. The group was formed by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and bassist John Taylor, with the later addition of drummer Roger Taylor, and after numerous personnel changes, guitarist Andy Taylor (none of the Taylors are related) and lead singer Simon Le Bon. These five members featured in the most commercially successful line-up.
Like several other songs on Rio, "The Chauffeur" contains sound samples thanks to Nicks Fairlight CMI - the world's first commercial sampler. According to a question on Ask Katy, the sample was taken “from a nature record that the band found. The man is talking about ‘insects in the grass’". No track or album under this name has yet been discovered.
Today's tune "The Chauffeur" was directed by Ian Emes and is one of two non-single tracks on Rio to have its own music video. None of the band appear in the video at all. It is a moody black-and-white piece inspired in part by the film, The Night Porter, and the photography of Helmut Newton. Two women dress themselves carefully in lingerie and drive through the streets of London towards a rendezvous with each other in an abandoned multi-storey car park. The instrumental end piece of the song was accompanied by a topless Perri Lister performing a sensuous dance - clearly an homage to Charlotte Rampling's topless "Dance of the Seven Veils" in The Night Porter.
"Whip It" is a song by American rock band DEVO from their third album "Freedom Of Choice" (1980). It is a new wave and synth-pop song that features a synthesizer, electric guitar, bass guitar, and drums in its instrumentation. The apparently nonsensical lyrics have a common theme revolving around the ability to deal with one's problems by "whipping it". Co-written by bassist Gerald Casale and singer Mark Mothersbaugh, Devo recorded "Whip It" with producer Robert Margouleff at the Record Plant in Los Angeles.
Mark Mothersbaugh – lead and background vocals, keyboards, guitar
Gerald Casale – lead and background vocals, bass guitar, keyboards
Bob Casale – guitar, keyboards, backing vocals
Bob Mothersbaugh – guitar, backing vocals
Alan Myers – drums
Although "Whip It" was released as the second single from "Freedom Of Choice", Warner Bros. Records did not expect it to be a hit, due to its nonstandard tempo and strange lyrics. The disc jockey Kal Rudman took an interest in the song and it was soon being played on several radio stations in the Southeastern United States. Peaking at number fourteen on the Billboard Hot 100, "Whip It" became a hit single and found chart success in several countries. Mothersbaugh believes the song sold well because some people assumed the lyrics are about masturbation or sadomasochism.
An accompanying music video depicts these sexual themes; it features Mothersbaugh whipping clothing from a woman on a dude ranch. Despite some claims of misogynistic undertones, the video became popular on the fledgling television channel MTV.
If there was a Hall of Fame for early '80s New Wave music, DEVO's "Whip It" would be a shoo-in for induction. Undoubtedly the band's most recognizable song, "Whip It" elevated DEVO from an underground art-rock outfit to a (briefly) mainstream pop act, albeit one that still retained its pointed and satirical view of society. And, of course, who can forget the song's surrealist and now-iconic video that was a staple of MTV during the then-fledgling channel's early years? The fact that The Simpsons even paid homage to both the song and the video in an episode demonstrates how much "Whip It" has transcended pop culture.
AMESOEURS was a French post-punk/black metal band formed in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, France in Summer 2004 by guitarist/vocalist Neige of ALCEST, bassist/singer Audrey Sylvain and guitarist Fursy Teyssier (PHEST, LES DISCRETS) with the purpose of creating a music that reflects the dark side of the industrial era and modern civilization. Neige and Audrey Sylvain are also known for their input as session/live musicians in La sale Famine de Valfunde's band PESTE NOIRE.
A kaleidoscopic vision of the modern era. AMESOEURS are the children of this sad and metallic century, the musical metaphor of the modern urbanized world... By mixing elements of harsh melancholic Black Metal, Post-punk and '80s New Wave influenced by the likes of JOY DIVISION, early CURE and DEPECHE MODE, AMESOEURS is a bleak, violent, melancholic, suffocating and desolate vision, one brimming with despair.
Today's tune is the title track from the only full length self titled album "AMESOEURS" (Soulmates) is the sole album by the band of the same name. It was released in 2009, just before the band broke up. Northern Silence Productions released a special limited LP edition of the album in three different versions: the "Metallic Century" edition, limited to 333 copies, the "Cold Light" edition limited to 333 copies, and the "Night Sky" edition limited to 222 copies, which all come with exclusive bonus tracks.
Today Hultsfred is being tear down to pieces, and at approx 01:00 it was packed up and wrapped into trucks and ready to go on a new festival somewere.
These days has been extreme, a lucky day u might get 4 hrs sleep at most, usually very little or none at worse, BUT I love the intence the jokes the talks after work.
This band, The Cure, had a extremely nice lighting guy.
They came during the night and started to plan up the light.
I was the Night Stage Manager with 8 stagehands from Stagefright, Sweden, The best :D
As help we had 2 lighting, a guy and a girl. They were tired but Damn nice and competent!
This night we begun at 01:00AM and worked until 07:00 It was the coldest night ever.
But my crew was fantastic and the next day when The Cure went up the stage everything was perfect.
Some weird photos...I didnt take photos on the gig, sorry for that.
First is a cool thingie that the Swedish made to the Germans (It was Scorpio that held this festival and they are Germans) Second photo is a cool very old news paper in a toilet at the area ;D
The third is the venue...quite empty and last trucks with stage things being filled.
Almost forgot the band....The Cure:
From the album Three Imaginary Boys 1979 up to today, The Cure
constantly found new ways to stand aside the current perception of what
happens to be right now, and instead continually demonstrated that their
choices not only been the artistically correct,we are in fact, talking
about a band that has sold nearly 30 million albums. That in itself is
an equal feat Robert Smith with his literary references, scattered like
little sparkling clues in his texts, has been almost three generations
of teens to clear their local library shelves on the books of such
Camus, Baudelaire, and Cocteau
Last night The sounds preformed at Debaser Medis in Stockholm.
It was a very crowded Debaser, perspiration is word that would fit.
The audience were fantastic, they knew every word and jumped like
mad when she started to sing.
I was one of the security guards in the "pit"
and picture me...being very tall,
trying to make myself shorter
and yet have an overview over the crowd...
And then in a sitting position the singer
Maja parted her legs behind me
didnt see it at first...looked at the left and i saw a knee..
Ehhhmm moved a bit...one of the photo shooters took a nice pic of it :)
(forgot to ask for it)
Couple of songs later, there I were and suddenly she wrapped her t-shirt
over my head. Gaaahh.
After I went up with her in the elevator to the dressing rooms,
she apologized for the hoax but she couldnt resist. :D
Its all show :)

The Sounds is a Swedish New Wave band founded in 1999 in Helsingborg. The group's musical style has been compared to New Wave acts such as Blondie, The Cars, the Epoxies and Missing Persons. She was featured on Cobra Starship's "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)", for the film Snakes on a Plane. The album "Crossing the Rubicon" is full of that catchy, keyboard-driven power pop. The songs are well-polished without being overproduced. Its not their best album but its well worth listen to it.

I couln't resist to add one more song from Imperiet. Ballad om en Amerikansk Officer is a song from Imperiet last offical record "Tiggarens tal", released in 1988. The song is about Oliver North and the Iran-Contra scandal.
Imperiet were a Swedish 1980s rock band from Stockholm, that existed from 1983 to 1988. They can be argued the most influental band in Sweden for a while, but definitely dominated the new wave scene, which at the time was seen as the same as the punk rock scene. Imperiet started as Rymdimperiet, a side project to the most popular punk band in Sweden, Ebba Grön, and included three of its members.
Todays tune is taken from Imperiets 4th album "Synd" 1986 But todays tune is from the new release of the album, that was released 1997. It included the songs "Märk hur vår skugga (Epistel 81)" and "Balladen om briggen Blue Bird av Hull".
"Märk hur vår skugga" is number 81 of Epistles of Fredman by Carl Michael Bellman. It's about one of Bellman's female acquaintances funeral (grälmakar Löfberg's wife).
Many Swedish artists has recorded Märk hur vår skugga, among others Cornelis Vreeswijk, Stefan Sundström, Fred Åkerström and Imperiet. An English translation has been recorded by the Swedish band Candlemass and by the American doom metal band While Heaven Wept, on the album Of Empires Forlorn. English speaking Mediaeval Baebes has recorded the song in Swedish on the album Mirabilis (2005).
