"Ultra" is the debut album by the American psychedelic rockers KADABRA.
The band hails from Spokane, Washington U.S., delivers the eerie psyche crawl of acts like DEAD MEADOW and the heavy fuzzed riff grime of BLACK SABBATH. In the fall of 2020, they tracked their debut album "Ultra" with Dawson Scholz, and it did see the light on September 17th via Heavy Psych Sounds.
In 2020, a year wracked with cultural dissent and a global pandemic, fellow musicians and long-time friends Garrett Zanol and Ian Nelson decided to create a band that would pull influence from a few of their favorite musical acts. After retaining the talents of their favorite local drummer Chase Howard, the group got to work on writing an album that illustrates their current climate.
KADABRA is:
Garrett Zanol (Vocals/Guitar)
Ian Nelson (Bass)
Chase Howard (Drums)
Today's tune "Settle Me" is the second single taken from the KADABRA debut album "Ultra". KADABRA comments the tune:
"Settle Me" is the last song we wrote for the album "Ultra". The song rides the steady swampy flow of psychedelia while racing into a heavy, fuzzed turbulence."
SNAIL picks up where their last LP left off: heavy, fuzzy melodic tunes with floating harmonies and lyrics that explore both inner and outer space. But this time, the band comes recharged and rejuvenated, enthusiastically triumphing over their dark side and reveling in their power trio roots. Heaviness with sweet melodies and evil backmasking. The album "Fractal Altar" shows off some slick songwriting and Custom-made for mind expansion that will give you as a listner a pleasent time.
So spin today tune "Mission From God" on a high volume and surf in to Argonauta Records https://www.argonautarecords.com/ and get a copy of the new album "Fractal Altar". Release date April 30th, 2021
Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".
"Full Virgo Moon" is the eighth album of dark folk by Thomas Jefferson Cowgill's KING DUDE.
Thomas Cowgill is an American musician, mostly known for his work with dark folk music project KING DUDE – he speaks of benefits in mind-expansion and the majesty of earthquakes while averting his gaze from the dawn of Immortals, he is the king of Satanic folk.
For the past few years, KING DUDE has been one of the most misunderstood voices in folk music. He's been accused of everything under the sun; to some, he is a violent psychopathic Satanist, to others, he is a charlatan-left-leaning coward... And that's just scratching the surface. While there are many myths surrounding him it seems true that no one can easily sum him up in a single breath. One thing is for sure, he plays uncompromising songs devoted to his craft without questioning how it will be interpreted. He doesn't ask anyone for permission to exist in this way and refuses to back down in the face of his naysayers.
As is the tradition of folk music in its original form, his latest album "Full Virgo Moon" represents a "shots-fired over the line" at many of these detractors, his songs becoming pointed dagger-like anthems of the unsung theists and atheists alike. As he weaponizes his songs in this unique manner, he is quickly becoming one of the most dangerous and influential folk musicians of our times. Beware and be aware, KING DUDE is a force to be reckoned with.
"Full Virgo Moon" was recorded in Seattle Washington in the first two weeks of January 2020. The album consists of nine new songs all performed, recorded, mixed and mastered at home by Thomas Cowgill. The focus of the album was to recall the earlier works of KING DUDE before he had a full band, so there is a distinct minimal approach to the album. "Full Virgo Moon" was released on March 13th 2020 via Ván Records.
"Full Virgo Moon" is a wonderful mix of Gothic Folk Americana with a slight Country Blues touch in his own woven brand of KING DUDE. The tunes are peeled down in nine melancholic hymns with a decent playtime of thirty minutes, like the opening "My Rose By the Sea (Satyr Boy)", a mellow vocal that serves out a plate of beautiful sadness that will shake off any stiff He-man, that he gets completely imbalanced. It's followed by an acoustic guitar piece with atmospheric keys surrounds the living room of the title track "Full Virgo Moon", a tune that I somehow get the feeling that David Bowie was part of, a real beauty indeed. To saddle up a few knuckles to the mood-driving cowboy lullaby "Forty Fives Say Six Six Six" and the same mood can be found on "Make Me Blind" to the more creepy piano tune "Forgive My Sins" and the sensitive piece that will hook your soul and take it to "The Satanic Temple", or the mournful piano ballad in "A Funeral Song For Atheists". The album closes up the excellent album with the folkish "Something About You". KING DUDE has once again created an interesting and loveful album with just enough sadness to keep the tears in control even for a sensitive man like me.
Sum: A terrific "Satanic Folk" album that really needs to be noticed in these times.
Today's tune is the title track taken from "Full Virgo Moon", enjoy!
SIGE Records is owned and operated by Faith Coloccia and Aaron Turner. It was founded in 2009 and is based in Vashon, Washington. The owners also have an experimental music project called MAMIFFER.
The long-arc vision of Faith Coloccia has deftly traversed a sonic terrain with an emotional depth and compositional restraint rarely found in contemporary music. Across multiple albums, EPs, and splits, she and her collaborators have tapped into the passionate elements of life—the sublime joys and the harrowing losses - while also providing a score to the less definable moments; the pensive times of solace, the dissonant chapters of uncertainty, and the meditative sojourns. MAMIFFER's latest album, "The Brilliant Tabernacle", transmutes darkness and rejoices in the force of life by illuminating the beauty of creation. Beginning with a foundation of piano, organ, and voice, Coloccia enlisted her partner and long-time collaborator Aaron Turner along with a congregation of auxiliary musicians to help her construct “a guiding light” in the form of seven songs.
Today's tune "All That Is Beautiful", is taken from the album “The Brilliant Tabernacle” (released November 1, 2019), The tune is a poetic salve buttressed by Coloccia’s piano, Jon Mueller’s communal drum patterns, Veronica Dye’s constellating flute, and Turner’s dichotomous combination of bucolic acoustic guitar and distorted squall. Coloccia weaves a private psalm of global stewardship and personal strength—a prime example of her music serving as a talisman in a labyrinthine world, enjoy!
THE HAUNTED NORTH is a groove metal band out of Seattle, Washington, driving music, powerful vocals of merge in the band’s debut release, "Monster". Randy V (DAMIEN) and Canadian guitarist Sean Francis, along with ‘JD’ DeServio and Jeff Fabb (both from BLACK LABEL SOCIETY), create crushing groove rock as fresh as it is familiar.
Singer Randy V was cutting his vocals at Bass-Mint Studios in New Jersey when THN co-producer and bassist John 'JD' DeServio told him the lyrics were out-of-place within the context of the whole album. The entire band (including Randy) agreed. The following morning Randy wrote the title track "Monster", which he describes as a life-long battle with codependency, born out of growing up in an appalling alcoholic environment. Justin Shturz (SHINEDOWN & SLIPKNOT) put the final mastering.
Regarding the lyrics, Randy states, "Sometimes the issue is not the addiction you were subjected to, but rather the unconscious need to be validated through hedonism and debauchery. It's a losing battle trying to fill an endless void right through the center of your being. That's what the monster is, blind, never-ending hunger, either trying to feel alive and known, or completely annihilated. There is no in between. The battle is fought with vigilance, everyday. It creeps up on you when you're not watching and destroys the people who actually love you. It's a beast to be reckoned with."
Today's tune "Monster" is the title tune taken from the bands debut album, enjoy!
Reverent as it is prophetic and stark, King Dude has previously shared his spiritual visions with releases on Dais, Avant!, Bathetic, Clan Destine, and Ván records. Pulling together the biblical sound and isolation of the bygone days of revelation with an atmosphere filled with hope and salvation, King Dude has woven his own brand of American music.
He brandishes many varied influences in his songwriting. Everything from British Folk, Americana, Country and Blues can be heard in his songs. Even the heavier sounds of Heavy Metal tend to sneak and slither it's way into the King Dude canon. The resulting songs are much more of a modern-day hymn then your average pop song. King Dude's music beg's the soul to lift itself up from the darkness of ignorance, towards the ever shining glorious "Light" that exists outside of all of us yet that which we are eternally connected to and at once connects everyone on Earth.
King Dude and Chelsea Wolfe did reunite to create another seven-inch vinyl tune of collaborative songs entitled "Sing More Songs Together...". Was released March 25th, 2014 on Not Just Religious Music.
