Dunsmuir - Dunsmuir

Monday, New Week, Last Day of July, time to introduce ”Record Of The Week”.

DUNSMUIR is a very intressting side project, a band that includes members from CLUTCH, FU MANCHU, DIO/SABBATH etc catching your interest huh? The album was released July 22, 2016.

DUNSMUIR crew is composed of super rockers such as CLUTCH s frontman, Neil Fallon navigating vocals, legendary drummer Vinny Appice of DIO era BLACK SABBATH, the FU MANCHU bassist Brad Davis and Dave Bone (from Dave's & Fallon’s other-side-project, THE COMPANY BAND) anchoring away on the guitar.

The self title album ”Dunsmuir" is a real rocker, it’s like a heavier version of CLUTCH or a more rockier FU MANCHU dipped in BLACK SABBATH, an inevitably fantastic combinations. Think, Crackers and Cheese, Cinnamon roll and milk, BLACK SABBATH and CLUTCH, catching the drift.

”Dunsmuir” is a catchy son of a bitch, with 10 tunes clocking in at 35 mins, too short for me so the repeat button was hit kind quickly. After a few spins in my headphones I got hooked. Ordered my Vinyl on the spot. ”Dunsmuir” is a concept record about the fates met by survivors of a 19th century shipwreck.

Already with the opening tune “Hung on The Rocks” you hear Neil Fallon’s inimitable and dominate vocals, together with heavy powerful drumming by Appice and the formidable strings team Davis and Bone. "Our Only Master” is a real rocker that could be on any NWOBHM album, heavy riffing, catchy melody and furious drumming. The punchy "The Bats (Are Hungry Tonight)” is a real killer, it will hit you in the head with a sable tooth. "What Manner of Bliss?” is half pace sludgy piece, heavy SABBATH riffing, hard snare drumming. ”Deceiver” is a catchy uptempo tune and so is "…And Madness”. "Orb Of Empire” have a pretty cool chorus and monotone heavy riffing. "Church Of The Tooth” is a slow and sludgy, a more clearer bass here then it would been a real killer, it's still good. "The Gate” is a solid rocker and the album ends with the top notch tune "Crawling Chaos”, sneaky and heavy and just brutally fantastic!

Sum: ”Dunsmuir” rocks, simple as that!

Today’s tune "Crawling Chaos!” is taken from the self titled album with DUNSMUIR, Enjoy!

The Beatles - Hey Jude

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Hey Jude" is a song by the English rock band THE BEATLES, written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. The ballad evolved from "Hey Jules", a song McCartney wrote to comfort John Lennon's son, Julian, during his parents' divorce. "Hey Jude" begins with a verse-bridge structure incorporating McCartney's vocal performance and piano accompaniment; further instrumentation is added as the song progresses. After the fourth verse, the song shifts to a fade-out coda that lasts for more than four minutes.

"Hey Jude" was released in August 1968 as the first single from THE BEATLES' record label Apple Records. More than seven minutes in length, it was at the time the longest single ever to top the British charts. It also spent nine weeks at number one in the United States, the longest for any Beatles single. "Hey Jude" tied the "all-time" record, at the time, for the longest run at the top of the US charts. The single has sold approximately eight million copies and is frequently included on professional critics' lists of the greatest songs of all time. In 2013, Billboard named it the 10th biggest song of all time.

THE BEATLES did not record their promotional film until "Hey Jude" had been on sale in America for a week. They returned to Twickenham Film Studio, using director Michael Lindsay-Hogg who had worked with them on Paperback Writer and Rain. Earlier still, Lindsay-Hogg had directed episodes of Ready Steady Go! And a few months after the film for "Hey Jude" he made THE ROLLING STONES Rock and Roll Circus TV special that featured John and Yoko but wouldn’t be shown until 1996

To help with the filming an audience of around 300 local people, as well as some of the fans that gathered regularly outside Abbey Road Studios were brought in for the song’s finale. Their presence had an unlikely upside for THE BEATLES in their long-running saga with the Musicians’ Union in that the MU were fooled into believing the band were playing live, when in fact they were miming for the vast majority of the song. Paul, however, sang live throughout the song.

The video was first broadcast on David Frost’s Frost On Sunday show, four days after it was filmed. At that point transmission was in black and white although the promo was originally shot in colour. It was first aired in America a month later on 6 October 1968, on The Smotheres Brothers Comedy Hour.

In 1987 Julian ran into Paul in New York City when they were staying at the same hotel and he finally heard Paul tell him the story of the song firsthand. He admitted to Paul that growing up, he'd always felt closer to him than to his own father. In Steve Turner's book The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song, Julian said: "Paul told me he'd been thinking about my circumstances, about what I was going through and what I'd have to go through. Paul and I used to hang out quite a bit - more than Dad and I did... There seem to be far more pictures of me and Paul playing at that age than me and Dad. I've never really wanted to know the truth of how Dad was and how he was with me. There was some very negative stuff - like when he said that I'd come out of a whisky bottle on a Saturday night. That's tough to deal with. You think, where's the love in that? It surprises me whenever I hear the song. It's strange to think someone has written a song about you. It still touches me.”

”Hey Jude” have been Håkan Hellström ending tune on his shows during the summer, a tune were he sings along with the audience and handing out roses. This weekend was the last 2 shows by Håkan at Ullevi in Gothenburg.

Black Lips - Can't Hold On

Atlanta flower punk pioneers BLACK LIPS have released their first album in three years, "Satan’s Graffiti or God’s Art?", released on May 5 on Vice Records. Produced by Sean Lennon at his studio compound in upstate New York throughout 2016, the album is the group’s most musically evolved to date, while still staying true to their original blistering take on fuzzy, dirty rock n’ roll.

During the recording the band isolated themselves from the outside world, infusing the album with a focused liveliness similar to the spirit that brought them together in the first place. On "Satan’s Graffiti or God’s Art?" founding members Cole Alexander and Jared Swilley teamed with former guitarist Jack Hines (who played in the group from 2002-2004) and recent additions Oakley Munson on drums and Zumi Rosow on saxophone. The album also features contributions by Saul Adamczewski of Fat White Family and guest vocals by Yoko Ono.

BLACK LIPS were born of DIY ethic, working their way from sweaty basement shows in Georgia to huge crowds at international music festivals (including a performance at Fun Fun Fun Fest that appears in Terrence Malick’s forthcoming film Song to Song) to tours in such far flung locales as India, Jordan, Cyprus, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraqi Kurdistan, the United Arab Emirates, and many more. "Satan’s Graffiti or God’s Art?" vindicates BLACK LIPS for sticking it out through many years of shifting trends and buzz bands; a sonically captivating document that is as creatively unhinged as it is precisely executed, one of the rawest and most expansive albums in the band’s storied history.

The band will hit the road in August, see the dates below.

Second Sun - Autonomic Pilot

The single "Autonomic Pilot” is following the success of last year's debut LP "Hopp/Förtvivlan” by the electric folk/space rock project SECOND SUN of Jakob Ljungberg, drummer of Swedish Death Metal band TRIBULATION.

What started as a solo project (with Ljungberg performing all of the instruments) has now become a fully realized live rock band, with the 'Autonomic Pilot' session being the first recorded output of SECOND SUN mach II. Joining Ljungberg are Jakob Enlund (HUNT) on drums, Sofia Rydahl (ex-GRÄVMASKIN) on keyboards and longtime collaborator Marcus Hedman on bass. The record is backed with a fantastic, organ-heavy cover of "Sånt Är Livet," which was originally written and performed by Swedish punk band BÄDDAT FÖR TRUBBEL.

The idea was born on New Year's, 2011, when Jakob was listening to the 70's retrospective LP First Daze Here from US Doom Metal pioneers PENTAGRAM. He soon realized SECOND SUN was the perfect outlet for his love of bands like STEELEYE SPAN, NEKTAR, HAWKWIND and BLACK SABBATH as well as traditional Irish folk music. In May 2014, Jakob put eight songs to tape with his friend Marcus Hedman and the result is "Hopp/Förtvivlan” were the words sung entirely in his native Swedish and was released in April 2015 on Electric Assault Records.

Today’s tune "Autonomic Pilot”, enjoy!

Algiers - Cleveland

"The Underside of Power" is the second album by American experimental band ALGIERS. The album was released through Matador Records on June 23, 2017. The album was produced by Adrian Utley of PORTISHEAD and his frequent collaborator Ali Chant. It was also the band's first album to feature drummer Matt Tong as a full-time member.

"The Underside of Power” assert violence, darkness and horror, that the human spirit is affirmed through witness and resistance, leading not only to solace but to redemption.

ALGIERS is composed of vocalist/guitarist Franklin James Fisher, bassist Ryan Mahan, guitarist Lee Tesche and drummer Matt Tong. ALGIERS pulls from a divergent number of musical (and nonmusical) influences; the most notable of which being post-punk, gospel music, Southern Gothic literature and the concept of the Other. Their sound has been described as "dystopian soul" due to its somber mood, afrofolk inspired vocal approach, and heavy emphasis on atonal textures.

The band met and grew up playing music together in Atlanta, Georgia but was officially formed in London in 2007. Their name evokes the anti-colonial struggle in general, symbolizing a contested space where violence, racism, resistance, and religion commingle.

The group released their first single “Blood” in January 2012 via Atlanta based label Double Phantom. Byron Coley for The Wire wrote “Although the fusion may have been touched upon in recordings related to both The Birthday Party and The Gun Club, Algiers are dedicated to grafting gospel music onto post-punk guitar-cuzz...this record is mesmerising and really sucks you in with its weird power.”

The band's self-titled debut album was released through Matador on June 2, 2015. In 2015, ahead of their eponymous release, the band opened for Interpol, during their North American Tour. Matt Tong, formerly of Bloc Party, has been playing drums for Algiers since early 2015. Their live show has been described as "recalling at various points PIL’s dub-style expansions, Afrobeat, industrial, no wave, free jazz, Suicide, the XTC of “Travels in Nihilon,” Nick Cave’s fire and brimstone, and musique concrète.”

Today’s tune ”Cleveland” is taken from their second album "The Underside of Power”, enjoy!

Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie - Too Far Gone

For many music lovers, the legendary band FLEETWOOD MAC was the soundtrack of the '70s. Their album "Rumours" topped the charts for an incredible 31 weeks. Now, two of the band's alums, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and singer Christine McVie, have joined together for a brand new duet album.

The backstory behind Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie‘s self-titled album is filled with plenty of the drama their famous FLEETWOOD MAC lineup has been serving up since the mid ’70s.

That classic quintet — Buckingham, McVie, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie — was set to record its first album since 1987’s Tango in the Night when Nicks decided to focus on her solo career instead, leaving new material written by Buckingham and Christine McVie — some together, some separately — without a home … until they pushed forward with the project, reconfigured as a duet record, and recruited drummer Fleetwood and bassist John McVie.

So, basically, Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie is a FLEETWOOD MAC record minus one key member. Nothing new for the often-splintered group: 1990’s Behind the Mask was made without Buckingham, 1995’s Time without Buckingham and Nicks and 2003’s Say You Will (which followed the reunited band’s 1997 live comeback, The Dance) without Christine McVie. And like the albums made over the past quarter century, there are some good moments, some underwhelming ones and some missed opportunities.

Thankfully, Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie is a lot closer to the springy Say You Will than the forgettable Time. It starts with three killer songs: Buckingham’s “Sleeping Around the Corner,” “Feel About You,” a co-write with McVie, and “My World,” another Buckingham composition. And it reinforces just how reliable FLEETWOOD MAC can be, even without their most popular singer-songwriter.

Nicks is clearly missed at times, especially her part in the vocal trio’s harmonies. But Buckingham — one of music’s most undervalued guitarists, singers, songwriters and producers — checks in with some of his most engaging songs in years. And McVie, who last released a solo record in 2004, sounds revitalized following her long absence from the studio.

Occasionally the album comes off as separate and distinct solo records, sorta like FLEETWOOD MACs 1979 ”Tusk", the double LP that often found the band’s three singer-songwriters serving as each other’s backing players. (Indeed, “Sleeping Around the Corner” first appeared as a bonus track on Buckingham’s last solo record, 2011’s Seeds We Sow.) But Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie still manages to fall together thanks to the two artists’ undeniable creative fusion, which powered songs like “Don’t Stop” and “Think About Me” in the past.

There’s filler — “Too Far Gone,” the album’s heaviest song, relies on a riff and percussion breakdown borrowed from “Tusk,” and McVie is best when pushed outside of the confines of her big melancholy piano ballad here, “Game of Pretend” — but the majestic pop landscapes Buckingham drops most of the songs into make even the flimsiest tracks a treat to hear. And the longtime rhythm team of Fleetwood and McVie consistently and effortlessly locks into the grooves. In other words, Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie is a pretty good FLEETWOOD MAC album. It’s Nicks’ loss.

Today’s tune ”Too Far Gone” is taken from their brand new album, enjoy!

Foghat - Slow Ride

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Slow Ride" is a song by the British rock band FOGHAT. It was the lead single from their fifth studio album, "Fool for the City"(1975), released on Bearsville Records. In 2009, it was named the 45th "Best Hard Rock" song of all time by VH1.

There are 5 versions of this song on the market. The original LP version from "Fool for the City" lasts 8 minutes and 14 seconds. The single version, found in several compilations was truncated to 3:56 with a fade-out ending. The 1977 live version is 8:21, the King Biscuit Flower Hour FOGHAT version is 10:37 and the 2007 live version is 9:44.

According to drummer Roger Earl, the song was created during a jam session with then new bassist Nick Jameson.

“Nick had a cassette player and he would record whatever we played there. As I recall it, the whole song was written— the middle part and the bass part and the ending were all Nick's ideas. Basically, Nick wrote the song, but we just jammed on it, and Nick cut the stuff up so it made sense as far as the song goes. And then Dave [Peverett, the band's then guitarist and vocalist] said, 'I've got some words.' That's how that came about (laughs).

The album version of this song, which runs 8:14, has become a classic rock staple. While the "slow love" theme is common in R&B music where the tempo is more congruent with the lyrics, this is a rare rock song that pulls off the feat. The famous guitar riffs change speed and climax neat the end, effectively simulating a lovemaking session. Those who are feeling strong can use the album version, but a single cut down to 3:56 with a fade out ending is also available.

This song was written by the group's lead singer, David "Lonesome Dave" Peverett, who died in 2000. He also wrote "Fool for the City.”

A '70s classic, this was used in the movie Dazed and Confused, which was set in that era. The song also appeared on The Simpsons, Seinfeld, That '70s Show and My Name Is Earl.

This song is featured as a playable song in Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock. It is a cover of the 3:56 version, but instead of fading, an original ending was added leaving the singer belting out "SLOW RIDE" and having a bass solo before ending. >> Did you know: Foghat got their name when Peverett came up with the word while playing a Scrabble-like game with his brother. Peverett convinced the band to go with it instead of Brandywine.

Today’s clip is filmed live 1978, enjoy!

Pretty Maids - Kingmaker

"Kingmaker" is the the latest and the fifteenth studio album of Danish metal icons PRETTY MAIDS. Building on their rebirth with 2010’s ”Pandemonium" and 2013’s ”Motherland", they are back with ”Kingmaker", which follows the same formula as their previous releases. They’re still led by founding guitarist Ken Hammer and vocalist Ronnie Atkins, who have been the backbone of their existence from the very beginning in 1981.

The album was pre-released in Japan on October 21, 2016. In other areas, it was released on 4 November 2016 by Frontiers Records. It is the first album of all new material since Motherland (2013). Kingmaker is the first album without keyboard player Morten Sandager who left the band in February 2016 after joining Pretty Maids in 2006. Instead Kim Olesen of Anubis Gate plays keyboards on the album.

In an interview with The Classic Metal Show, lead singer Ronnie Atkins said of the album: "Basically we are big pop freaks as well. We like all kinds of music and to us a good song is a good song. Some of the stuff is actually written on an acoustic guitar. There are songs on the album that are basically pop songs. You could take songs like "Heavens Little Devil", basically just a pop song. The challenge is turning a pop song into a rock song."

The album debuted at number 35 on the German Albums Chart, becoming Pretty Maids' highest-charting album since Jump the Gun in 1990 (which also charted at number 35). However, the album failed to chart in their native Denmark.

Today’s tune ”Kingmaker” is the title tune from the bands latest release.

Unisonic - Exceptional

With their 2012 self-titled debut album UNISONIC unleashed a storm of enthusiasm. For the first time in 23 years, the two former members of Hamburg’s metal institution HELLOWEEN - Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen – reunited to play in the same band. More than a few metal fans might have shed a tear.

After the successful follow-up album "Light Of Dawn" (2014) a worldwide tour followed with memorable gigs in South America, Europe and Japan until Unisonic, still at full speed, brought their energy to the small village of Wacken where one of the biggest and most spectacular metal festivals in the world takes place every year.

The international all-star act consisting of Michael Kiske (HELLOWEEN) on vocals, Kai Hansen (HELLOWEEN, GAMMA RAY) on guitars, Mandy Meyer (ex. ASIA, ex. GOTTHARD, KROKUS) on guitars, Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69 and successful producer of many top class hard rock acts) on bass guitar and Kosta Zafiriou (ex-PINK CREAM 69) on drums entered the stage at last year’s Wacken festival and made the night ablaze with glorious metal. For the band it was a remarkable experience.

On stage the band showed their class and diversity; their sound is spiked with remarkable riffs and guitar solos, thundering grooves, classic metal hymns and hooks other bands would be dying to write. And on top the anthemic vocals of Kiske, whose “out-of-this-world” voice is so extraordinary and strong, he is often mentioned in the same breath with Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford and Geoff Tate.

Like the studio albums, "Live in Wacken" was mixed and mastered by the band’s own Dennis Ward. This show was a very special occasion for the whole band, but possibly it was “the show of the life” for one band member… Kosta Zafiriou had in fact decided to focus only on the management side and to leave his drummer seat forever, after a lifetime spent between management duties and being a professional drummer.

2017 and 2018 will see Kiske and Hansen reunite with HELLOWEEN for the Pumpkins United World Tour.

The UNISONIC show will be available on a limited CD+DVD (Digipak) and digital version. The bonus DVD includes the video recording of six songs from their spectacular performance.

Arch Enemy - The World Is Yours

Melodic metal masters ARCH ENEMY have returned full force ahead as they prepare to release their forthcoming album, "Will To Power", out September 8, 2017 via Century Media Records.

ARCH ENEMY is a Swedish melodic death metal band, originally a supergroup, from Halmstad, formed in 1996. Its members were in bands such as CARCASS, ARMAGEDDON, CARNAGE, MERCYFUL FATE, SPRITITUAL BEGGARS, NEVERMORE and EUCHARIST. It was founded by CARCASS guitarist Michael Amott along with Johan Liiva, who were both originally from the influential death metal band CARNAGE. The band has released nine studio albums, two live albums, three video albums and three EPs. The band was originally fronted by Johan Liiva, who was replaced by German Angela Gossow as lead vocalist in 2000. Gossow left the band in March 2014 and was replaced by Canadian Alissa White-Gluz, while remaining as the group's manager.

"Will To Power" will mark the first album the band have recorded with their current line-up -- ALISSA WHITE-GLUZ (Vocals), MICHAEL AMOTT (Guitars), JEFF LOOMIS (Guitars), SHARLEE D'ANGELO (Bass), and DANIEL ERLANDSSON (Drums).
The album is Co-produced by guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, "Will To Power" was sent to Jens Bogren (OPETH, AT THE GATES, DIMMU BORGIR) for mixing and mastering and marks legendary guitarist Jeff Loomis' (NEVERMORE) first recording with the band.

Mastermind Michael Amott comments,

"We've been hard at work on the new album for a while now and we're proud to present the first taste of new ARCH ENEMY music in over three years with our new single and video, 'The World Is Yours'! This was the first song I wrote for the upcoming 'Will To Power' album and Daniel (Erlandsson, drums) helped me arrange and finish it up. One of many songs we co-wrote and co-produced this time around. We had a blast recording together with the full band in the south of Sweden and then mixing with Jens Bogren, who did a superb mix and mastering - in my opinion even surpassing the epic sound on our previous record, 'War Eternal'. People that have heard this song in particular are saying it's got the classic anthemic ARCH ENEMY vibe going on, and I think they might be right about that... Looking forward to playing it live on stage later this summer!”

Following the immense critical acclaim from their anthem-laden triumph of 2014, "War Eternal", ARCH ENEMY will continue to bring their thunderous live performances to fans worldwide on the "Will To Power 2017 International Tour" this fall, followed by a busy summer making appearances across the European festival market. The first leg of the tour will stretch across Eastern Europe from September 15 to October 11 with direct support from Jinjer. Further dates across Europe and North America are soon to be revealed. See below for a full listing of upcoming shows!

Tequila Mockingbyrd - Fight and Flight

Monday, new week, time to introduce ”Record Of The Week”.

"Fight and Flight" is the debut from Melbourne’s TEQUILA MOCKINGBYRD, a band that not use either lemon or salt in their drinks. Since their inception in 2012, the trio has toured Australia multiple times and earned killer support slots with international acts such as Cherie Currie of THE RUNAWAYS and punk icon Richie Ramone whose management hand‐picked the girls for the slot having heard their cover of The Ramone’s classic “Somebody Put Something in my Drink”.

"Fight and Flight" is a shot of straight up rock n roll packing a high energy punch that will hit you from the first explosion of sound until long into the after-party.

TEQUILA MOCKINGBYRD is comprised of Estelle Artois (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Jess Reily (Bass, Backing Vocals) and Josie O’Toole (Drums, Backing Vocals).

"Fight and Flight” is a really fun album to listen to, rocky as hell. From the opening track "I Smell Rock N Roll” where they are blowing of the hole arsenal of catchy riffs and heavy stomping tunes with choruses that you would die of. Heavy guitar riffing fires of "Never Go Home”, cool tune with massive chorus. The heavy bass and drum intro to ”Money Tree” is brilliant with a great punky attitude. Then ”Catalyst” kicks in, bluesy guitars, heavy riffs, a more softer approach than the other ones with amazing vocals. "Half Of The Man” is a great tune about a dude that I feel sorry for if they bump into these girls one day :). ”So Not Me”, back to the more punkier way to express themselves. ”Everyone Down”(todays tune) kicks me in the stomach with it's stomping melody, wow what a energetic tune, I’m very impressed of these talented girls. ”This Ain't Dead” starts with an amazing intro, holy cow and turns out to be a real beauty. “Somebody Put Something in my Drink” is the THE RAMONES classic tune. A very well done version that suites these ladies like a glow. ”Jagerbomb” is a classic Rock n’ roll tune. ”Shut Me Down” continues in the same lane but with a more updated version of the old classics and ends with the party anthem "Good Time”.

Sum: A modern RUNAWAYS that kicks ass! TEQUILA MOCKINGBYRD is something that have a really bright future ahead.

Today's tune "Everyone Down", taken from the bands debut album "Fight and Flight", release March 24, 2017. Track recorded, mixed and mastered by Shane Rae at Lighthill Studios, Directed by Daniel Nolan & TEQUILA MOCKINGBYRD, Camera and edit by Daniel Nolan/Clear Reel, Smoke and lights by David (Schnappa) Skoda, Make-up by Charlie, Filmed at GM Sound Studio, Campbellfield, VIC, AU

Maria Callas - Vissi d'Arte

Sunday, time for a classic, this time we take a step outside the "pretty" normal box and play a tune with Maria Callas by Puccini and a piece from Tosca called "Vissi d'Arte"

Maria Callas (Greek: Μαρία Κάλλας; December 2, 1923 – September 16, 1977), was a Greek-American soprano, and one of the most renowned and influential opera singers of the 20th century. Many critics praised her bel canto technique, wide-ranging voice and dramatic interpretations. Her repertoire ranged from classical opera seria to the bel canto operas of Donizetti, Bellini and Rossini and further, to the works of Verdi and Puccini; and, in her early career, to the music dramas of Wagner. Her musical and dramatic talents led to her being hailed as La Divina.

Born in New York City and raised by an overbearing mother, she received her musical education in Greece and established her career in Italy. Forced to deal with the exigencies of wartime poverty and with myopia that left her nearly blind onstage, she endured struggles and scandal over the course of her career. She turned herself from a heavy woman into a svelte and glamorous one after a mid-career weight loss, which might have contributed to her vocal decline and the premature end of her career. The press exulted in publicizing Callas's temperamental behavior, her supposed rivalry with Renata Tebaldi and her love affair with Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis. Although her dramatic life and personal tragedy have often overshadowed Callas the artist in the popular press, her artistic achievements were such that Leonard Bernstein called her "the Bible of opera" and her influence so enduring that, in 2006, Opera News wrote of her: "Nearly thirty years after her death, she's still the definition of the diva as artist—and still one of classical music's best-selling vocalists.

Why Maria Callas, well mostly because me and Thetania just let loose the Wallander series, where the main character Kurt Wallander most adorable artist is Maria Callas, something that you will see that he plays more than once.

Today's tune is with Maria Callas that sings Puccini: Tosca - 'Vissi d'Arte' at Covent Garden 1964. Maria Callas' final appearance on the operatic stage was in Tosca at Covent Garden's 1965 Royal Gala. For many opera lovers, Maria Callas and Tosca's Vissi d'Arte are inseparable. "I lived for art; I lived for love" became La Divina's cri de coeur, her swansong, the perfect expression of her own triumphs and tragedies. This unrivaled recording is from that legendary Zeffirelli production in 1964 and is one of just many jewels in the Maria Callas Live edition.

DeWolff - Sugar Moon

DEWOLFF is a three-headed rock ’n roll monster from the Netherlands’ Deep South: it’s a fire-breathing love child of the great Rock bands from the 1970’s and psychedelic cosmic radiation from the future. DEWOLFF was formed in 2007 by singer/guitarist Pablo van de Poel, brother/drummer Luka van de Poel and Hammond organist Robin Piso, and has grown to be one of the greatest live acts around. It’s Leon Russell meets DEEP PURPLE, BLACK KEYS meet ALLMAN BROTHERS. But above all, DEWOLFF sounds like DeWolff; an old soul in a young body; an eccentric and very hard-rocking young band that has already released six studio albums and a live album. Seeing DeWolff live is an experience one will never forget: it’s a mixture of inexhaustible energy, great musicianship, contagious enthusiasm and a play-like-it’s-your-last-show-mentality that seems pretty rare nowadays.

On June the 6th they announced that "we started recording our 7th album!"

Today's tune "Sugar Moon" is taken from the latest album "ROUX-GA-ROUX"

Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen

Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria celebrates 40th birthday today. It's a big day for Crown Princess Victoria as the Swedish royal celebrates turning 40, with festivities set to take place across two days in multiple parts of the Nordic country.

Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée; born 14 July 1977), is the eldest child and heiress apparent of King Carl XVI Gustaf. If she ascends to the throne as expected, she will be Sweden's fourth queen regnant (after Margaret, Christina and Ulrika Eleonora) and the first since 1720.

So for today I believe "God Save the Queen" would fit nice, it's a tune by the British punk rock band the SEX PISTOLS. It was released as the band's second single and was later included on their only album, "Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols" . The song was released during Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in 1977. The record's lyrics, as well as the cover, were controversial at the time, and both the BBC and the Independent Broadcasting Authority refused to play the song. The song is an attack on the treatment of working-class people in England in the 1970s by the government.

SEX PISTOLS manager Malcolm McLaren released this to coincide with The Queen's Silver Jubilee, a celebration commemorating her 25th year on the throne. The SEX PISTOLS and their fans detested the monarchy and this celebration.

The Queen's Silver Jubilee took place on June 7, 1977. On that day, The SEX PISTOLS attempted to play this song from the Thames river, outside of Westminster Palace. It was a typical Malcolm McLaren promotional stunt, as they played up how the band was circumventing a "ban" by playing on the river instead of setting foot on ground. The performance never took place, as they were thwarted by authorities.

This was originally called "No Future." The band played it live and recorded a demo version with that title, but changed it when lead singer Johnny Rotten got the idea to mock the British monarchy.

This became an anthem for the punk movement in England. It expressed the anger young people felt toward the establishment. In the UK, this outsold the #1 song at the time, Rod Stewart's "I Don't Want To Talk About It," but it mysteriously and controversially stayed at #2.

The SEX PISTOLS were signed to A&M records when they recorded this. They dropped the band just as this was released, pulling all the singles. The ones that slipped through became valuable collectors items. In 2011 Record Collector magazine compiled its Top 50 most collectable records, and top of the list came the A&M release of this song - if you happen to have a copy the good news is it worth $12,000 (£8,000).

This was released on Virgin Records, the third label to sign The SEX PISTOLS (EMI and A&M both dropped the band because they were too much trouble). It was released as a single in May 1977, but the album did not come out until December, as they had many problems recording it.

Bass player Sid Vicious joined the band shortly before this was released - it was one of only two songs he played on. Original bassist Glen Matlock was fired because he was too nice.
