The Beatles - Hey Jude

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Hey Jude" is a song by the English rock band THE BEATLES, written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. The ballad evolved from "Hey Jules", a song McCartney wrote to comfort John Lennon's son, Julian, during his parents' divorce. "Hey Jude" begins with a verse-bridge structure incorporating McCartney's vocal performance and piano accompaniment; further instrumentation is added as the song progresses. After the fourth verse, the song shifts to a fade-out coda that lasts for more than four minutes.

"Hey Jude" was released in August 1968 as the first single from THE BEATLES' record label Apple Records. More than seven minutes in length, it was at the time the longest single ever to top the British charts. It also spent nine weeks at number one in the United States, the longest for any Beatles single. "Hey Jude" tied the "all-time" record, at the time, for the longest run at the top of the US charts. The single has sold approximately eight million copies and is frequently included on professional critics' lists of the greatest songs of all time. In 2013, Billboard named it the 10th biggest song of all time.

THE BEATLES did not record their promotional film until "Hey Jude" had been on sale in America for a week. They returned to Twickenham Film Studio, using director Michael Lindsay-Hogg who had worked with them on Paperback Writer and Rain. Earlier still, Lindsay-Hogg had directed episodes of Ready Steady Go! And a few months after the film for "Hey Jude" he made THE ROLLING STONES Rock and Roll Circus TV special that featured John and Yoko but wouldn’t be shown until 1996

To help with the filming an audience of around 300 local people, as well as some of the fans that gathered regularly outside Abbey Road Studios were brought in for the song’s finale. Their presence had an unlikely upside for THE BEATLES in their long-running saga with the Musicians’ Union in that the MU were fooled into believing the band were playing live, when in fact they were miming for the vast majority of the song. Paul, however, sang live throughout the song.

The video was first broadcast on David Frost’s Frost On Sunday show, four days after it was filmed. At that point transmission was in black and white although the promo was originally shot in colour. It was first aired in America a month later on 6 October 1968, on The Smotheres Brothers Comedy Hour.

In 1987 Julian ran into Paul in New York City when they were staying at the same hotel and he finally heard Paul tell him the story of the song firsthand. He admitted to Paul that growing up, he'd always felt closer to him than to his own father. In Steve Turner's book The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song, Julian said: "Paul told me he'd been thinking about my circumstances, about what I was going through and what I'd have to go through. Paul and I used to hang out quite a bit - more than Dad and I did... There seem to be far more pictures of me and Paul playing at that age than me and Dad. I've never really wanted to know the truth of how Dad was and how he was with me. There was some very negative stuff - like when he said that I'd come out of a whisky bottle on a Saturday night. That's tough to deal with. You think, where's the love in that? It surprises me whenever I hear the song. It's strange to think someone has written a song about you. It still touches me.”

”Hey Jude” have been Håkan Hellström ending tune on his shows during the summer, a tune were he sings along with the audience and handing out roses. This weekend was the last 2 shows by Håkan at Ullevi in Gothenburg.

Håkan Hellström - Det kommer aldrig va över för mig

Sunday, I felt a bit broken, which is not so strange after 3 long days on Eriksdalbadet and Popaganda festival. A festival that goes in the sign of "Indie/Pop", not really my cup of tea music wise but still it's a magical festival where the site is just wonderful. Eriksdalsbadet is situated in the southern part of central Stockholm and is a municipal swimming and sport centre near Årstaviken in Stockholm.

The outdoor bathing area was built in 1962 for the European Swimming Championships and since then there has been numerous of swimming competitions held at Eriksdalsbadet. Those who have grown up in Stockholm probably think of Eriksdalsbadet as their oasis in the summer heat, the place you went to when the beach was too far away. Since 1999 Eriksdalsbadet also have the largest and most modern indoor bath.

Before the outdoor bathing area was built there was a water treatment plant, but long before this was the place where the Eriksdals Theater was located. The Theater was unfortunately destroyed by a bomb which razed the Theater to the ground. This happened during the World War II, February 22, 1944. According testimony the bomb hit the ground right outside the fence where Popaganda’s main stage is placed.

Well it's time to sum up this years event, first of all I guess the band bookers hit the jackpot this year as this years festival got sold out, congrats! The artists on my stage really had a wide range of styles, with Swedish bands like El Perro Del Mar, Sibille Attar, Makthaverskan, Systraskap and Beatrice Eli to the US/UK artists such like Kate Nash, Chlöe Howl, MS MR and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Were Kate Nash and MS MR was the coolest on Friday and Chlöe Howl and Sibille Attar on Saturday.

Sibille Attar the show at Popaganda festival is the last for the year, so they ended with a rain of confetti! They did a really good gig and you could really see the joy of playing live.

The big attraction for the festival was undoubtedly Håkan Hellström. An artist that I do not really understand, but that he's an awesome live performer is something you cannot get away with. Very good looking show, where the light was well-planned and the sound was brilliant.

Håkan Hellström (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈhoːkan ˈhɛlˌstrœm]; born 2 April 1974) is a Swedish musician. He got his Swedish breakthrough in the year 2000 with the song "Känn ingen sorg för mig Göteborg" ("Shed no tears for me, Gothenburg"). In 2005, Hellström released his fourth album, Nåt gammalt, nåt nytt, nåt lånat, nåt blått (literally: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue), which is a collection of old material that never made it onto any of his albums, a few new songs and covers. In 2006, following the birth of his son, he announced that he would take a break from touring and recording. Despite this, he still performed occasional gigs. Since then he has released his fifth album För sent för Edelweiss (Too Late for Edelweiss). Hellström played drums in the Swedish indie pop band Broder Daniel between 1988 and 1994, then briefly for Swedish alternative rock band Honey Is Cool. In 1997 he rejoined Broder Daniel to play the bass, until 2003 when he left the band again to focus completely on his solo career.

Here are some pictures from the festival:

Zara Larsson - Uncover

Rockbjörnen is a music prize in Sweden, divided into several categories, which is awarded annually by the newspaper Aftonbladet. The magazine's web browser appoint laureates. The prize was first awarded in 1979, and is mostly centered on pop and rock.

2010 they decided to redo Rockbjörnen and focus more on live performances. This initiative was hailed by artists and industry. The period of Rockbjörnen was extended with the concept of development from one month to three months (all summer).

Well it was a pretty strange evening at Gröna Lund and if you take a closer look on what the menu is offering during this evening you start to wonder if it's time to start think about chance the name from Rockbjörnen to Popbjörnen (Rockbear to Popbear) as to be honest, there is not much rock left here.
After a short chat with Sabaton, one of the Rock band that was nominated, they felt pretty lost in there, the same feeling I believe Lizette & and Ghost had.

Anyway, here you got this years winners:

Foreign Song of the year: Passenger: ”Let her go”
Livegroup of the year: Mando Diao
Swedish Concert of the year: Håkan Hellström
Hardrock/Metal of the year: Sabaton
Swedish Song of the year: Håkan Hellström ”Det kommer aldrig vara över för mig”
Breakthrough of the year: Zara Larsson
Male Artist of the year: Håkan Hellström
Female Artist of the year: Zara Larsson

And then we need to pick a song from this event. Well this years breakthrough was pretty cool, a 15 year old girl that sings awesome.

Zara received national fame for winning the TV4 talent show Talang 2008, the Swedish version of Got Talent. She is currently signed to TEN Music Group since 2012. She had a breakthrough with her debut EP album Introducing, released in January 2013, with the single "Uncover" topping the charts in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Both the single "Uncover" as well as the album Introducing were certified triple platinum in July 2013 by Universal Music Sweden. Zara signed with Sony Music Entertainment in the United States in April 2013. She lives with her mother, father and her one sister.

Todays tune "Uncover" is taken from the EP Introducing. Enjoy!

The Knife - Silent Shout

The Knife are a Swedish electronic music duo from Stockholm, formed in 1999. The group consists of siblings Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer, who together also run their own record company, Rabid Records. The group gained a large international following in response to their 2003 album Deep Cuts. The group and this specific album later received further attention when a cover of their song "Heartbeats", rearranged for acoustic guitar by José González, appeared in a Sony commercial. Subsequent songs have appeared on a number of television shows.

The duo's first tour took place in 2006, along with the release of their critically acclaimed album Silent Shout. They have won a number of Swedish Grammis, but refuse to attend awards ceremonies. They have appeared in public wearing Venetian masks. Andersson released a solo album under the name Fever Ray in 2009, while Dreijer released several EPs as Oni Ayhun in late 2009 and early 2010.

Way Out West being The Knife’s only festival in Sweden and with a performance like stage show did they got the audience to dance out during the night in Slottsskogen, Gothenburg. A little quirky, pretty weird, artistic but with a small hook that could get almost everyone to wiggle the big toe.

The majority of the performers at this year's festival is the males, something like The Knife pointed out during his concert.

There has been a lot of cock on this stage today, they said, referring to Håkan Hellström, Rodriguez and Local Natives who all played at the Flamingo stage earlier that day.

Todays tune "Silent Shout" is a really "brooding, bassy, dance-fuelled electronica", the tune is the first single and title track from the album Silent Shout. The song was released in 2006.
