Death Breath - Death Breath

Sunday, time for a classic.

Yesterday it was the annual Record Store Day, a feast for the still alive stores that do their best to keep the spirit up and sell the music we all love. As in this matter, I am pretty old school, still, buy a lot from the locals and so I did yesterday, love to support the once still around. Got a bunch of records, the bought got really spread as it usually gets during this time, it's not that I get stuck in one genre even if it's been really hard lately, but that I guess is something that you readers already got used to.

This is what I got home with.....

One of the records was the Swedish old-school death metal band DEATH BREATHs debut album "Stinking Up The Night". Got the seven tune EP "Let It Stink" already which I just adore, high-class death metal.

DEATH BREATH featuring Robert Pehrsson (THUNDER EXPRESS/DUNDERTÅGET) and Nicke Andersson (ENTOMBED, THE HELLACOPTERS, LUCIFER, IMPERIAL STATE ELECTRIC) who wanted to return to playing drums and death metal. The members of the band are both members of other bands but do not consider DEATH BREATH to be a side project. The band was formed in 2005 and was originally intended to be named BLACK BREATH but to the band's surprise, the name DEATH BREATH had never been used by a metal band. The band considers their music to be pure death metal, free from seven-string guitars, five string basses and triggered drums. The band's music is influenced by SLAYER, VENOM and BLACK SABBATH, AUTOPSY, CELTIC FROST as well as old horror movies and HP Lovecraft.

The Dagger - Ahead Of You All

THE DAGGER is a hard rock/heavy metal band from Stockholm, Sweden formed in 2009 by Fred Estby, David Blomqvist, Tobias Cristiansson and Tyrant, who are or have previously been involved in bands such as DISMEMBER, GRAVE or NECRONAUT. After auditioning several possible singers and seeing Tyrant exiting the band, Jani Kataja (MANGROVE, SIDEBURN) joined the fold as vocalist by the end of 2012.

While there certainly was a revival of 70’s rock and traditional 80’s metal in recent years, THE DAGGER thought many acts around lacked the right feeling and sound, so they set out to create real classic hard rock / heavy metal rooted in blues rock and perform it simply the way they like to hear it themselves. THE DAGGER stands for eagerly rehearsing, jamming, recording live and writing songs as a unit resulting in an authentic and captivating approach.

The group’s debut 7” single (released via High Roller Records in Summer 2013) and the upcoming “S/T” debut album were recorded at Gutterview Recorders (owned by Fred Estby and Nicke Andersson) in Stockholm, where bands like IMPERIAL STATE ELECTRIC, ’77, BULLET and MORBUS CHRON already recorded their material.

While legendary acts such as early IRON MAIDEN, DEEP PURPLE, JUDAS PRIEST and RAINBOW obviously left their mark on THE DAGGER, the band does not rely on just resurrecting the 70’s/80’s era of hard rock but focus on quality throughout the entire album offering heavy to-the-point riffing, strong vocal melodies and twin guitar harmonies in spades.

Robert Pehrsson's Humbucker - Wasted Time

Robert Pehrsson is a Swedish guitarist, singer & song writer. He has worked for such diverse bands such as Runemagick, Thunder Express, Death Breath, Dundertåget, Imperial State Electric, Slingblade and also Dagger. Robert Pehrsson started his career as a guitarist/vocalist around 88-89, then concentrating mainly on playing extreme music like thrash and early death metal, but soon branched out in different musical genres but mainly focusing on rock music.

Pehrsson has now completed his first (solo) album for High Roller Records containing songs such as the guitar-driven “Haunt My Mind”, “Who Else Is On Your Mind” or the soft rockin' “Can't Change”.

The self-titled album combines yearning Thin Lizzy-esque guitar harmonies with tight classic rock hooks. Heartfelt and honest, it hits with confessional hymns to a lost age of guitar-driven rock.

Recorded at Gutterview Recorders, the nine songs feature guest spots by well-known musicians such as Nicke Andersson, Dolf De Borst and Tomas Eriksson from Imperial State Electric, Peter Stjärnvind (Nifelheim, Black Trip), Joseph Tholl (Enforcer, Black Trip), Robert Eriksson (ex The Hellacopters), Olle Dahlstedt (Entombed), Johan Bäckman (Necrocourse) and Johannes Borgström.

Todays tune "Wasted Time" is the second single from the self titled solo album "Robert Pehrsson's Humbucker" by Robert Pehrsson.
