Featuring lyrics such as “Come to the Sabbath, call down the demons from Hell, and just like that… you’re under my spell” they just finished a tour supporting the Swedish GHOST and the Danish co-headliners VOLBEAT. “It’s really just a reflection of everything we love,” explains vocalist Alexandra James. “We’ve always loved rock ‘n’ roll, especially from the golden era of American music, but we’re also Satanists and study the Occult. We both practice magick. It was just a crazy idea– ‘Why can’t you love Roy Orbison and hail Satan at the same time?’ Satanism has been relegated to the metal scene for so long, but we are Satanists and listen to The Platters and Buddy Holly, you know? We love metal too, but this is a reflection of who we are as people. EELS - Good Night On Earth

EELS have released a new single and video "Good Night On Earth" taken from the Mark ‘E’ Oliver Everett-led band’s upcoming 14th studio album "Extreme Witchcraft", which is set for release on January 28, 2022 via PIAS and the band’s own E Works Records.

The video is Directed by Steven Mertens, the primarily animated video for "Good Night On Earth" builds up to “an intergalactic clash of the titans”. E stars in the clip as a newscaster who appears on TV as disaster strikes when an evil giant space lobster lands on Earth, forcing the musician to do battle with the creature.

“Just another newscaster-Godzilla-fighting-a-lobster-from-space video,” E said of the clip for the song, which you can watch below.

Eels (often typeset as eels or EELS) is an American rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1991 by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Oliver Everett, known by the stage name E. Justin Pinkerton, from Oakland, California, is the one-man army behind the opaque merge of seemingly different forces: from mad fuzz guitar breakdowns à la Morricone at his most intense, to the syncopated drum learnings of Can’s Jaki Liebezeit, Justin weaves a blanket of sound that’s simply loaded with deep vibes: From heavily modulate Moog synths, gentle glockenspiel through amplified echo-perplexion. You almost forget that Justin’s main instrument is actually the drums - if it wasn’t for the superb loaded-yet-understated grooves tying everything together in an intricate tangle.

With a background as drummer & composer in famed psych-rockers GOLDEN VOID (Thrill Jockey), Justin also works as a full time film composer for library and commercial music. FUTUROPACO is the meeting between his two passions: It’s a vivid sonic dream where abstraction melts with the strict, focused approach of cinematic cues. It almost makes you forget the murky future of America these days, which was the catalyst for this album and it’s title. Imminent dystopia never felt this grounded, bright and uplifting. That you got a taste of Kristina Esfandiari (WHIRR, KING WOMAN) other projects after yesterday's review is not entirely surprising, for it was so good and I just felt in love with her :) and needed to get more, I'mm sure you know that feeling.

MISERABLE is an a where we finds her at her most vulnerable and emotional. Oscillating between shoegaze and dream pop, her music dwells in a soft, meditative space that reverberates with thoughtfulness.

King Woman – Celestial Blues

Monday, time to present "Record Of The Week".

"Celestial Blues" is the sophomore album by KING WOMAN. Led by the hypnotic and breathy vocal dramatics of Kris Esfandiari. KING WOMAN unveil a profoundly crafted opus of brooding, ethereal doom-rock. Produced by Jack Shirley (DEAFHEAVEN, WRECK & REFERENCE, OATHBREAKER).

Feeling compelled to reshape the biblical archetypes that once bound her, Esfandiari has created a theatrical tale of rebellion, tragedy, and triumph — a metaphor for her own personal experiences over the years — "Celestial Blues" was born. The former’s name refers to Lucifer himself, taking root in a John Milton-ish humanization of the Biblical adversary.

Esfandiari has written an epic poem in blank verse where the dramatic tone for the record is set with "Morning Star" where "Lucifer, falling from the heights" with an primeval echo in the heavy riffs by Peter Arsendorf that played both bass and guitar on the album in the absence of former guitarist Colin Gallagher and drums beaten with a firm handshake by Joey Raygoza. "Boghz" is about the delicate line between love and drugs. Beautiful-sounding tones begin "Golgotha" which invites to some gymnastics choirs, laze distorted guitars and violins that try to hide the bloody lyrics. "Coil" is a massive wall of big sounds in this punkish gospel. "Entwined" starts nicely at a low tide pace, only when halfway has been passed, it break loose and she sings "I've been fucking around my whole life, No more". In "Psychic Wound" she get enslaved by the pinions under seductive rule. The music surrounds in a horror theme around her screams. A bass line lick opens up "Ruse" is another story of betrayal in the sense of intoxication. The album closes really beautiful in "Paradise Lost" where the inspiration is taken from John Milton epic poem, a neat guitar and soft drums along with a naked and soulful vocals makes me shiver. "Celestial Blues" is marvelous and so different, as the lyrics is very important to understand it's composition and meaning, the music frames up the story very well. Highly recomend to spin this with headphones.

"Celestial Blues" was recorded in Oakland, California by GRAMMY-nominated engineer Jack Shirley (DEAFHEAVEN, WRECK & REFERENCE, ANENRA, OATHBREAKER). Released July 30, 2021 by Relapse Records

Ty Segall & Cory Hanson - She Is A Beam

Ty Segall has returned with “She’s a Beam”, a new collaborative single with WAND frontman Cory Hanson. Cory and Ty have decided to release the much anticipated single "She's a Beam", along with "Milk Bird Flyer". Both songs were recorded 5 years ago, and were recently rediscovered. They will be donating 100% of the first week's sales of both songs to Black Lives Matter LA. The single was released February 7, 2021.

Unfurling like a five-minute jam-out session, “She’s a Beam” sees Segall and Hanson working pure psychedelic magic. For about 90 seconds we hear some foggy vocals, but the rest is dedicated to the two musicians playing off one another with their respective guitars.

Patrón - Who Do You Dance For

Friday, time to get up and dance a little to PATRÓN's 2nd single "Who Do You Dance For".

PATRÓN (pronounced with a Mexican accent and an "r" that rolls under the tongue like a jelly bean soaked in lysergic acid) could be the premonitory soundtrack to Roberto Rodriguez's next feature film if it were set in a post-apocalyptic and degenerative Las Vegas where the only chance of salvation would be Barry White's resurrection.

PATRÓN is a new project fronted by Lo (aka Patrón) frontman of the band LOADING DATA. The self-titled debut album was produced by Alain Johannes (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, ELEVEN, THEM CROOKED VULTURES, Chris Cornell Band) and also happens to be the last album ever recorded in his legendary studio 11AD, in Los Angeles.

Lo had some well-known friends record the album with him: Joey Castillo (DANZIG, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, THE BRONX), Barrett Martin (MAD SEASON, SCREAMING TREES, TUATARA), Nick Oliveri (KYUSS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MONDO GENERATOR), Aurélien Barbolosi (ASTON VILLA) and Monique St Walker (BLACKBIRD DAYS).

PATRÓN is a melting pot of influences, a new entity, a sort of Frankenstein creature, borrowing as much from stoner rock, 50s rock n roll, the Rat Pack as from 80s pop. It’s sexy, it’s groovy, it’s loud and heavy. Heady melodies that will stick to your skin like a thirsty alcoholic tick.

Monday, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

Lauded California-based progressive metallers PSYCHOTIC WALTZ are back! Not only that but they return—after officially reforming in 2010—with all five members from the group’s first three albums, "A Social Grace" (1990), "Into The Everflow" (1992), and "Mosquito" (1994). That’s right. Appearing on new album "The God-Shaped Void" and stepping in as if they never left are: Dan Rock (guitars/keyboards), Brian McAlpin (guitars/keyboards), Ward Evans (bass), Norm Leggio (drums), and Devon Graves (vocals/flute/keyboard), originally known to fans as Buddy Lackey.

PSYCHOTIC WALTZ got its start in El Cajon (a suburb of San Diego) in 1986. Previously known as ASLAN, the band that would become America’s foremost progressive metal outfit—alongside FATES WARNING and WATCHTOWER. Now, 23 years later, the high school friends have found each other again under the majesty and mystery of PSYCHOTIC WALTZ.

"The God-Shaped Void" is a delightful album where the band continues to dive into darker atmospherics. Eleven tunes that clocks in at just under an hour. The lyrical and melody works continue to captivate and impress. From the opening dramatic, six-minute sprawl "Devils And Angels" where we hear that they still possess the magic in creativity. Powerful harmony with excellent riffage and a magical vocal opens the door to a delightful journey in The God-Shaped Void. That they are true to their prog metal roots while also imparting insightful songwriting tact on tunes like "Stranded", "All The Bad Men", and "Demystified", which features Graves on guitar and flute. A few other great tunes are the doomy "Sisters Of The Dawn", and the hook-laden "In The Silence" and the tempestuous groovy "Back To Black". The excellent beautiful piece "While The Spiders Spin" that gives us marvelous riffage and delicate vocals, see it below. The album a well-made craft where they stick to what they do best and deliver us a delightful piece of are that will get plenty of spins, an album that should be taken as whole to be fully appreciated. If you are into progressive rock then this is something for you, at least check it up and be impressed.

Let's continue in the path of peeled down tunes and serve you all with this delicate piece of music "Be All Things", a tune that is taken from the latest album "Birth Of Violence" by the folkish goth goddess Chelsea Wolfe, the album was released September 13, 2019

Speaking about the new tune, Wolfe explains, ""Be All Things" is about navigating the world as a woman: reconciling the soft and the strong, balancing the warrior and the goddess, and wanting to be everything and nothing at the same time. Telling stories through song allows me to explore so many facets of myself; so many lives within. Some days I want to be quiet and reach my roots into the earth, and some days I want to spring up from the ground and be all things."

Of the video, Wolfe adds, "The video is a culmination of footage taken in a few magical locations. Around southwestern Iceland, while shooting the Birth of Violence album cover, inside Moaning Cavern in Northern California - a marble cavern 450 feet deep that I visited as a child and sang in as an adult, sending my voice out as heavy as I could against the powerful dampness and sparkles of the ancient cave walls. A special spot in nature not far from my home where the Manzanita grows up like a red and green tunnel, and a historic California hotel from the Victorian era where many from the past rested their heads."

Testament - Night Of The Witch

The time has arrived for legendary bay area thrash metal giants TESTAMENT to unleash new thunder to the masses and reveal their twelfth studio album: "Titans Of Creation" which will be released on April 3rd via Nuclear Blast.

The first single/lyric video "Night Of The Witch" is released, see and hear it below, the tune uses old school lyrics about witches chanting in the moonlight and casting spells.

Chuck Billy says that the beauty of this song is that I worked in Eric's vocals into the chorus. I wanted to incorporate him as he does DRAGONLORD and this song was a perfect match. It is a heavy song and a great way to introduce everyone to "Titans Of Creation".

The album was produced by Chuck Billy and Eric Peterson while Juan Urteaga of Trident Studios handled co-producing, recording and engineering. Andy Sneap was responsible for the mixing and mastering of the album. Eliran Kantor stepped up once again to create a new masterpiece of artwork for the cover of this release.

Just as the elements of this planet thrive within all living creatures, each musician in TESTAMENT represents a necessary component of this latest musical creation.

The release comes ahead of TESTAMENT s "The Bay Strikes Back European Tour", which will get underway in Copenhagen on February 6 and wrap up in Hanover on March 11. TESTAMENT will be joined on the road by EXODUS and DEATH ANGEL, see all the dates below. Hopefully, I can arrange everything at home and run over and see the show and say hey to the guys.

Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas

Monday, a new week and a new year. Let's present 2020's first "Record Of The Week"

Climate issues have been the ultimate topic to speak about during 2019 and that is something the San Diego extreme metal band CATTLE DECAPITATION has really caught on with their eighth studio album "Death Atlas". They have never shied away from confronting the awfulness wrought upon the natural world by the human race, and "Death Atlas" is their bleakest offering to date. The cover art says it all: a stooped, skeletal Grim Reaper carrying the burnt-out husk of our planet on his back. The magnificent album artwork is done by Wes Benscoter.

The album's theme is humanity’s destruction of a dying world and it's the next step in the band's development where the extreme overlord's brutality spreads its wings and crosses the boundaries of many exhilarating genres and gives us the group’s most varied record by far.

"Death Atlas" delivers an unforgettable and really enjoyable hour full of technical virtuosity and aggression of today's careless and nonchalant people in our world. Musically is an extremely well-crafted beast with a distinct balance of hyper adrenaline rush and half paced, chunky melodic parts. Big riffs that will drop your chin, cut off from Josh Elmore and the newcomer Belisario Dimuzio, tight, creative and totally inhuman drummings by Dave McGraw, steady and well-picked bass lines by Olivier Pinard and the amazing vocals that only Travis Ryan masters. Lyrically is a lot of grief, anger, hate, passion and big emotions around humanity’s destruction. "Death Atlas" contains 14 tunes, broken up by several interludes like the intro "Anthropogenic: End Transmission". The first real tune "The Geocide" is a cruel piece that will shake off all the bad things that you have collected over the years as a human being. The blazing tremolo-picked riffs along with the killer blast-beats and the signature vocal with the clear message will make you follow the order to be a better human. Furious blasting in a thunderstorm tempo lays the path for "Be Still Our Bleeding Hearts", vocal changes along with amazing riffing that will satisfie you as a listener. "Vulturous" and "Finish Them" are two straightforward tunes with crunchy and stompy riffing. Lovely doom riffs along with the nasty goblin snarl in the beauty "Time’s Cruel Curtain", to the blackened "Bring Back The Plague" and "Absolute Destitute". The riff raffing tunes like "Finish Them" and "One Day Closer To The End Of The World" are both well done and enjoyable tunes to play on a high volume. The album closes up with the title tune "Death Atlas", over nine minutes of tempo changes between the high furious speed with a tremendous screech and middle rolling with a goblin snarl, a middle part with emotional atmosphere and sensible clear vocals until it fades out in the space.

I wonder if this could be Gretas favorite band 2019? This was one of the best albums in this genre during 2019, an excellent crafted extreme metal record. It will be very interesting how it will stand during the time. If you don't own this album, make sure to get it.

T.S.O.L. - Flowers By The Door

T.S.O.L. (True Sounds of Liberty) is an American punk rock band formed in 1978 in Long Beach, California. Although most commonly associated with hardcore punk, T.S.O.L.'s music has varied on each release, including such styles as deathrock, art-punk, horror punk and other varieties of punk music.

Formed in 1978 in Long Beach, T.S.O.L. originated as a punk band, developing from earlier bands SS Cult and Johnny Koathanger and the Abortions. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Jack Grisham (who has been credited as Jack Greggors, Alex Morgon, Jack Ladoga, Jack Delauge and Jack Loyd, among pseudonyms), guitarist Ron Emory, bassist Mike Roche and drummer Todd Barnes. According to legend, the band acquired their instruments by casing a local music shop, waiting until closing, and then performing a smash-and-grab robbery.

Today's tune "Flowers By The Door" is taken from the third studio album "Change Today?", released in 1984 through Enigma Records. It was the band's first album with singer/guitarist Joe Wood and drummer Mitch Dean, replacing founding members Jack Grisham and Todd Barnes who had left the band in late 1983. The album was recorded using money loaned to T.S.O.L. by the DEAD KENNEDYS, and found the new incarnation of the band moving away from the hardcore punk associations of the original lineup in favor of traditional rock and gothic rock sound. "Change Today?" was reissued in 1999 through the Enigma subsidiary Restless Records, adding four tracks from the recording sessions that had been left off the original album.

In ‘98 Greg Wilkinson started playing shows with a drum machine, bass, circuit bent noise generators while singing under the moniker Mr Brainoil. Playing gigs solo during that time would come to an end in early 2000 when Nathan Smith would join on guitar. Later that year, Ira Harris would round the lineup on drums to its final and only formation changing its moniker to BRAINOIL.

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Summertime Girls" is a classic hard rock anthem by Y & T with the awesome Dave Meniketti on vocals & guitar. Sing this one to yourself while on the beach observing the sights!

Y&T (originally known as YESTERDAY & TODAY) is an American hard rock/heavy metal band formed in 1974 in Hayward, California. The band released two studio albums on London Records as YESTERDAY & TODAY in the 1970s, before shortening their name to Y&T and releasing several albums on A&M Records beginning in 1981, as well as albums on Geffen Records, Avex Records, and others. The band was originally co-managed by Herbie Herbert (who also managed Journey) and Louis "Lou" Bramy. The band has sold over 4 million albums worldwide to date.

Today's tune is taken from the seventh studio album "Down For The Count", released in 1985 through A&M Records. It contains the band's biggest hit "Summertime Girls", which charted at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song had initially appeared as the lone studio track on the band's live album, "Open Fire", released earlier in the year. Enjoy!

Shotgun Sawyer - Bury The Hatchet

Monday, a new week, time for the "Record Of The Week".

"Bury The Hatchet" is the second full-length album by the Auburn, California’s SHOTGUN SAWYER. The album was released on April 19th by Ripple Music.

SHOTGUN SAWYER is a raw, blues-infused rock n' roll band that consists of the bassist Brett "The Butcher" Sanders, guitarist/vocalist Dylan Jarman, and drummer David Lee. They teamed up in January of 2015 with the intent to revive and reimagine the musical styles of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, treading similar ground to LED ZEPPELIN, ZZ TOP, and BLACK SABBATH.

The result is a thundering, passionate, toe-tapping, knee-slapping and unique mixture of tasty bass grooves, crunchy riffs, searing guitar solos, and powerful vocals, all underpinned by virtuosic drumming. This is rock n' roll the way it was meant to be played.

"Bury The Hatchet" is a 9 track bluesy album with a big spectrum from the opening uptempo "Aint Trying To Go Down Slow" that has a groove that makes it hard to sit still in the boat, follows up with another groovy high octane rocker "(Let Me) Take You Home", the tune slows down a bit and gives us a lovely bluesy distorted solo. "Backwoods Bear" is an old school acoustic blues number with a great stomp. The gear hits the next level in "You Got To Run", where the distorted riffing get a place in the sun. The dreamily somber "Son Of The Morning" is a real beauty, fat and slow riffs along with a soulful voice make this a high note on the album. In the next tune "Hombre" the guys give a nod to ZZ TOP with this blues rocker. Another heavy blues piece is "When The Sun Breaks" with great guitar handling. The album closes up with heavy bass licks in blues rocker "Shallow Grave". "Bury The Hatchet" is an album full of soul-burning blues that will sort any BBQ out this summer or a long car drive up to the north.

Sum: An excellent heavy blues rocker that should not be missed.
