Landing - Wait Or Hide

Connecticut group LANDING celebrates their 20th anniversary this year, but is showing no signs of losing creative momentum. On the contrary, "Bells In New Towns", their second album for El Paraiso Records, is arguably their finest, most cohesive effort to date.

LANDINGs sound has always been multi-textured, alluding to many different genres at once. There's the heavy oscillating drones and the fuzzy, motoric psychedelia, the lush ambient soundscapes and shimmering, dreamy vibes - all tied together by that characteristic sense of fluid progression.

"Bells In New Towns" could be described as their most grounded, earthy sounding release so far. On this record the ethereal components of their sound are firmly anchored by a tight, steady low-end – certainly due to the fact that the album was partly recorded by seasoned New England rock producer Justin Pizzoferrato (DINOSAUR JR., ELDER, PIXIES, SONIC YOUTH). Much like their spiritual kins in YO LA TENGO and BARDO POND, LANDING have eclectically picked their influences from a wide range of musical eras and cultures. The result is an electric music that speaks to the mind as well as the senses.

Futuropacos - Fantasma Arancione

FUTUROPACOS debut album is the shape of things to come: it’s a wet, enigmatic cocktail of part 1970’s Italian library music, part krautalicious beat-galore and part riff-driven heavy psych.

Justin Pinkerton, from Oakland, California, is the one-man army behind the opaque merge of seemingly different forces: from mad fuzz guitar breakdowns à la Morricone at his most intense, to the syncopated drum learnings of Can’s Jaki Liebezeit, Justin weaves a blanket of sound that’s simply loaded with deep vibes: From heavily modulate Moog synths, gentle glockenspiel through amplified echo-perplexion. You almost forget that Justin’s main instrument is actually the drums - if it wasn’t for the superb loaded-yet-understated grooves tying everything together in an intricate tangle.

With a background as drummer & composer in famed psych-rockers GOLDEN VOID (Thrill Jockey), Justin also works as a full time film composer for library and commercial music. FUTUROPACO is the meeting between his two passions: It’s a vivid sonic dream where abstraction melts with the strict, focused approach of cinematic cues. It almost makes you forget the murky future of America these days, which was the catalyst for this album and it’s title. Imminent dystopia never felt this grounded, bright and uplifting. Freedom Fuzz!

Maragda - Hermit

The Spanish psychedelic rock band MARAGDA with prog tendencies have released thier debut self titled album. Big sound that covers most of the musicalspectrum along with some psychotropic moments along with some heavy riffs and great solos that gives you a rough trip to the unknown, that last approx for thirty minutes.

This record tells the story of Maragda, a civilization that took refuge underground after the Great Disaster. Many years have passed now, and the memory of a life on the surface has completely faded. People live under the oppression of a totalitarian government, The Core, when suddenly a strange voice speaks inside their minds. After this call, a group of rebels launches an expedition through The Unknown, willing to discover the secrets of Maragda”

Meatbodies - Reach For The Sunn

Within the fertile West Coast rock scene of the 2010s, MEATBODIES’ Chad Ubovich was a perennial candidate for MVP. Over the course of the decade, the Los Angeles native could be seen peeling off guitar solos in Mikal Cronin’s backing band, supplying the Sabbath-sized low end for Ty Segall and Charlie Moothart as the bassist for Fuzz, and, of course, fronting his own MEATBODIES. That recently dormant noise-damaged freak-rock outfit now returns with "333", a corrosive stew of guitar scuzz, raw acoustic rave-ups, and primitive electronics. That acidic mix didn’t come from nowhere. Because the downside to maintaining such a prolific work rate is that the threat of burnout becomes a looming occupational hazard, and after touring behind MEATBODIES’ second album, 2017’s "Alice", Ubovich finally hit his breaking point.

“I’d been touring for eight years straight with all these bands, and just couldn't do it anymore,” he says. “There was also a feeling in the air that everything was changing, politically. Things just didn't feel right, and I went down a dark path.”

Fortunately, Ubovich was able to pull himself back from the brink and, upon getting sober, began writing and recording at a furious pace. By mid to late 2019, MEATBODIES—Ubovich and drummer Dylan Fujioka—had a new album in the can, ready to be mixed. But when COVID hit, the band, like so many other artists, put their release on hold as they rode out the pandemic’s first wave. During that idle time, Ubovich discovered a cache of demos that he and Fujioka had recorded in a bedroom back in the summer of 2018, and he really liked what he heard. In contrast to MEATBODIES’ typical full-band attack, it was deliriously disordered. “It sounded gross, like a scary Magical Mystery Tour,” he recalls proudly. After subjecting them to some mixing-board freakery, Ubovich fast-tracked the songs into becoming MEATBODIES’ third release, "333".

While "333" charts Ubovich’s journey from drug-induced darkness to clear-eyed sobriety, it also reflects how the world he re-entered was still pretty messed up—if not more so. That psychic tug-of-war plays out on the opening “Reach For The Sunn” whose distorted slow-motion creep leads to a chorus both celebratory and dispiriting: “Reach for the stars/reach for the sun/reach for the trigger/reach for the gun.” In writing these songs, Ubovich realized that he wasn’t so much singing about his own path, but something much greater than himself. "These lyrics are dark, but I think these are things that people everywhere are feeling and going through” he says. “Here in America, we’re watching the fall of U.S. capitalism, and "333" is a cartoonish representation of that decline.”

KOSMODROM is a four-piece instrumental Stoner-Psyche-Rock band from Upper Franconia, Germany. Formed in 2013.
An interesting mix of all kinds of styles blended into one. These Germans funk's up the classic rock tones and blends it with heavy riffs and with a stoner approach. I wish I could hear this in the elevators instead of the easy listening stuff that you are forced to hear.

Iron Lamb - Apocalypse Express

"Apocalyse Express" is the second single from the fuzzed-out, psychedelic Swedish rockers IRON LAMBs upcoming album "Blue Haze" set for release the 26th of October on The Sign Records.

"Blue Haze" was recorded and mixed by Martin ’Konie’ Ehrencrona (producer of IN SOLITUDE, V**GRA BOYS and TRIBULATION) in Studio Cobra. Andreas Sandberg (Negative Self) plays keyboard and mellotron on the song "Into the Night". ’Koine’ plays keyboard and piano on "Erase/Rewind" and Hammond organ on "Dead Beat". IRON LAMB has been around for ten years and released two albums "The Original Sin" (2011/Pulverised Records) and "Fools Gold" (2015/High Roller Records). Except for the dark vibe over ‘Blue Haze’, there are few resemblances to bands as Repugnant, Martyrdöd, Dismember, Diskonto, General Surgery, Tyrant, and Insision where the members have served time. Iron Lamb third album ‘Blue Haze’ is their most complete album to this day.

The video is actually more of a short film and a homage to Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriquez. The film is an original story written and directed by Jimmy Johansson. The video features the members of IRON LAMB as the actors along with cult icon Christina Lindberg.

IRON LAMB was formed by guitarist Johan Wallin, drummer Tomas Daun and vocalist Gustaf Lindström in 2009, soon to be joined by bass player Daniel Ekeroth, the gravelly-voiced Daniel Bragman replaced Gustav and guitarist Jens Bäckelin joined the team. As all these members have quite extreme musical backgrounds, in bands such as REPUGNANT, INSISION, GENERAL SURGERY, and TYRANT.

Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters - Mother Chub

British psychedelic power trio CHUBBY THUNDEROUS BAD KUSH MASTERS have announced their debut album "Come & Chutney" will be released via Riff Rock Records on July 13th 2018.

In the mean time we check out a video, taken from the London trio’s 2015 debut EP "Earth Hog", and hey, what a video it is. Looks like they taped over the Beavis and Butt-Head appearance on Dave Letterman on VHS to save it. As the Video follos the same line as an old VHS tape back in the 90's. In the video you will get a bunch of corpsepainted, tye-dyed, headbanging psychedelic hip hop hipsters.

The trio consists of guitarist/vocalist Owen Carty, bassist Will Hart and drummer Mark Buckwell.

The band have recently been signing to Riff Rock Records, where the upcoming album will be relesed. Their words follow the video below.

“We’re psyched and honoured to be joining Riff Rock Records. They totally get that we’re trying to do something a little different with the band… We want to create a rad vibe that’s a little less serious and hopefully a lot of fun. If we can convince one diehard metal fan to buy a tie-dye t-shirt at every show then that’s our job done. We have a split EP coming out around the start of next year with some good friends of ours and then we’ll focus on finishing our first full album. Love ‘n Kush!”

Black Rainbows - The Hunter

Since they formed eleven years ago in Roma, Italian trio BLACK RAINBOWS have established themselves as one of the most active fuzz-fueled rock acts in Europe, with four albums, a remarkable handful of EPs (including a split record with L.A.'s space rockers Farflung) and countless tours and festival appearances across the continent. Blending the drive and swagger of 70's hard rock with the sun-baked thickness of 90's stoner rock, BLACK RAINBOWS have managed to create their own sound imprint, that could be described as "HAWKWIND, MC-5 and NEBULA crashing cars in the middle of the Mojave desert". Closely following with their highly acclaimed effort "Hawkdope", the band have just deliver another tasty piece of their fuzzy cake with fifth full-length "Stellar Prophecy", an album that should drop in the mail box any day now. Skraeckoedlan - Flod

Since their formation in 2009, the young members of SKRAECKOEDLAN have left a big footprint in the Swedish underground scene. In 2011 the critically acclaimed debut album “Äppelträdet” was released on Transubstans Records. The follow up record "Sagor", is set to be released June 10th 2015. In cooperation with the association Blå Huset, they present a release gig in their hometown Norrköping. The evening offers three awesome bands (SKRAECKOEDLAN, HONG FAUX and SKURK) and a real party!

SKRAECKOEDLAN serves you a buffet of heavy fuzz rock with its roots deeply planted in the riffing of BLACK SABBATH, the 90’s pop choruses of WEEZER and MASTODONs modern progressive metal. Combine this with lyrics in Swedish and a cryptozoological theme and you have a fraction of a description of SKRAECKOEDLANs sound. We’re thrown on a musical space ship in orbit around the solar system, where the melodies are in the centre and the dreamlike atmosphere always stays persistent.

Since their inception, SKRAECKOEDLAN have done over 120 shows in both Sweden and the rest of Europe. Mostly on their own but also as a support act for KYLESA, ORANGE GOBLIN and TRUCKFIGHTERS.

The upcoming album "Sagor" have been recorded in several studios during a two years period. They have been worked with technicians and producers such as Daniel Bergstrand (IN FLAMES, MESHUGGAH) and Niklas Berglöf (GHOST, DEN SVENSKA BJÖRNSTAMMEN). Erik Berglund has mixed it all and been an important part of finding the perfect sound for the record.

During the creation of "Sagor" did the band get in contact with Anders Friden (IN FLAMES) and his record label Razzia Notes, which will release the upcoming album.

Bite the Buffalo - Blue Lips

Monday and a new week, which means it's time to introduce this week's "Record Of The Week".

The brothers Stos and Dimitri Goneos form fuzz riddled rock ‘n roll outfit BITE THE BUFFALO.

Record Of The Week is "Blue Lips", an album that mixes beautiful singer song writing with filthy fuzz blues mixed with acoustic numbers and a touch of pop. That this duo sounds like a five piece band shows that these brothers handles the instruments well, they are tight and really clever in their music creation. The record have tons of catchy hooks that will kick off your feet's, they will never stop stomping to the rhythm. The twin harmonies mixes well with the raw and powerful riffs. The secret for the excellent music has to be the bloodline, that these guys really know how to craft a song properly is clear on Blue Lips.

Cradle rocked in the mining towns of The Copperbelt in Central Africa, the brothers jet set to Europe to share their sonic ramblings. Releasing the Bromigos EP in 2012 led to touring the UK / Europe and through to The United States. Following up a successful year with their stomping debut album "Blue Lips" created in a lighthouse off the coast of Dorset took the guys to SXSW festival in Texas and back for a storming set on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury Festival which got the attention of LED ZEPPELINs Robert Plant who invited the brothers to join him at a sold out Manchester Apollo.

Summury: Blue Lips is a catchy piece of art, well done guys, I just love duos :)

A new new album is currently being put together in the studio, all guns are blazing for a big 'ol 2015. :)

The Atomic Bitchwax - So Come On

Chris Kosnik, Finn Ryan, and Bob Pantella first started plotting their musical careers back in the mid 90s influenced by 70s rock and progressive groups ranging from Black Sabbath to Parliament Funkadelic. Simultaneously all three members where already playing for major labels in separate bands: Godspeed (Atlantic), Monster Magnet (A&M) and Core (Atlantic).

The Atomic Bitchwax slowly evolved for fifteen years as a players band with the enduring vision to "play what you want". Their music is a combination of 60s psychedelic rock, and 70s riff rock filtered though the progressive rock influences of today. Since their first release in 1999 'The Atomic Bitchwax' on Tee Pee Records, they have toured every year in North America and Europe covering over 15 countries and continue to expand. In that time the band has released five more records including three full lengths. 'TAB-2, 3 and 4', two EPs 'Spit Blood', and 'Boxriff', which included a DVD live show filmed in Seattle's Sunset Tavern. Their music has also appeared in popular TV shows including 'Jackass', 'Home-wrecker' and 'Fox sports'. Latest work includes the 2011 release of 'The Local Fuzz', boasting one 42 minute track of over 50 riffs back to back. 2012 and 2013 brings the bands road show to Australia, New Zealand, England, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and the United States.

Chris and Bob will also be touring with Monster Magnet from late 2013 through summer 2014 in support of their latest record "Last Patrol".

"In 2005, fresh off the heels of their appropriately titled third full-length, 3, The Atomic Bitchwax hit the road hard. The drama surrounding the departure of guitarist Ed Mundell (also of Monster Magnet) was long behind them, and for the lineup of Keith Ackerman (drums), Chris Kosnik (bass, vocals) and former "Core" frontman Finn Ryan (guitar, vocals) the future looked great. So this is where the bus flips, right?"

Greenleaf - Equators

New week, time to present a new album for this week, today we pick a band from Sweden and present the Borlänge based rock band "Greenleaf".

A band that have over the years made up of several members from bands like Truckfighters and Dozer. Greenleaf plays a fuzzy psychedelic stoner rock with classic rock riffs.

This weeks album "Trails & Passes" is the fifth long-player from Greenleaf and it's an album filled up with great harmony, skill full riffs and expressive melodies signed by Tommi Holappa. The new singer Arvid Jonsson sings with high class, the vocals are mature and deep and suits Greenleaf perfectly. The album delivers a production that is both deep, sharp and more complex than previous releases.  Greenleaf have released a really pleasant album that have been spinning on my record player for some time now, it's a record that is growing for every spin and Im sure it will spin more than one time and continue to give me some happiness.

Valley of the Sun - Centaur Rodeo

New week and it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week", this week we fly to the Valley Of The Sun, Cincinnati, Ohio were we find the heavy blues-metal band with their latest record "Electric Talons of the Thunderhawk".

There is a smoldering hotbed of Rock and Roll in the most unlikely of places; Ohio. Some time ago, the Devil came to sew his seed throughout the state leaving every city with it’s own High Priests of Hellish Riffs. The congregation of Cincinnati’s Church of Rock and Roll is watched over by Valley of the Sun, and a well tended flock they are.

Electric Talons of the Thunderhawk (Electric Talons) is the first full-length release from the band and follows on the heels of two very excellent EPs, "Twothousandten" and "The Sayings of the Seers". Electric Talons follows up right where "Sayings of the Seers" left off with a composition of dynamic driving riffs and rhythms.

Valley Of The Sun consist of 3 gentleman where the lead guitarist and vocals Ryan Ferrier leads the trio with his role as front man. Mr Ferrier does an excellent part to cobble together well defined riffs and manages his vocal efforts brilliantly. His partners Ryan McAllister on the bass and Aaron Boyer on drums applies their skills to the band perfectly. With a great energy and smoothness do they team up to make the tunes sound great and deliver a great enjoyness to the listner.

If you enjoy heavy blues with shattering rhythms and soulful melodies, then this is something for you.

Groggy - Zombie Ride With The Devil

Today we throw an ear to the East and listen to a Heavy-blues/stoner/doom duo from Omsk, Russia. From their latest 3 tunes EP "Woodoo" can we hear loads of influences from the country on the west side of Sweden.

The EP is filled with some blues hard-rocking riffs that will entertain you throughout the playing time, however, it is only 11 minutes long :)

They already have a full length record to check out – Eagles and Lions from 2012.
