Entombed A.D. - Kill To Live

The Swedish death metalheads "Entombed" have released a video "Kill To Live" taken from their latest release "Back To The Front".

Entombed is a Swedish death metal band which formed in 1987 under the name of Nihilist. Entombed began their career as an early pioneer of Scandinavian death metal which initially differed from its American counterpart by its distinct guitar tone. However, by the early 1990s their sound had broadened to include garage rock and other influences. This new style would eventually be described as death 'n' roll. Entombed have been influenced by bands such as Slayer, Black Sabbath, Celtic Frost, Autopsy, Repulsion, Kiss, The Misfits, Motörhead and Discharge.

On January 21, 2014 it was announced that the Petrov/Dahlstedt/Elgstrand/Brandt line-up of the band would henceforth be known as Entombed A.D. and that the new album would be released under that name. It was also stated that any shows announced using the name Entombed would not feature this line-up.

The band name is on hold. According to an interview in Sweden Rock Magazine #3 / 2014, with L-G and Nico, the name Entombed is now owned by all four original members, Alex Hellid, L-G Petrov, Uffe Cederlund and Nicke Andersson and is not to be used until further notice.

Accept - Final Journey

New week, time to announce this weeks Record Of The Week, Blind Rage is the fourteenth studio album by German heavy metal band Accept. It was released on August 15, 2014 on Nuclear Blast Records.

Accept is a German heavy metal band from the town of Solingen, originally assembled by former vocalist Udo Dirkschneider, guitarist Wolf Hoffmann and bassist Peter Baltes. Their beginnings can be traced back to the late 1960s. The band played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, being part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. Accept achieved commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which remains the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".

Following their disbandment in 1997 and short-lived reunion in 2005, Accept reunited again in 2009 with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider and released their three highest charting albums to date, Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012) and Blind Rage (2014), the latter of which was Accept's first album to reach number one on the charts in their home country. They have sold over 17 million albums worldwide.

With the 3:rd red album with the new line up Accept have climbed back to the top again. With three killer albums in a row, they must have done a lot of impression and gained lots of new fans while having strengthened the confidence with their existing fans. Beside this they have probably or I should say absolutely guaranteed made an mr UDO pretty jealous :).

The band continues to create around the Classic Accept recipe and delivers excellent music based on on the guitar tandem of Wolf Hoffman and Herman Frank together with Mark Tornillo rattled consistent voice, all backed up around Peter Baltes heavy bass playing and the tight drumming by Stefan Schwarzmann. This band is taking the German power metal standard and throwing just enough melodic twists and variations into the chord patterns it all sounds fresh and to make the perfect and pure metal.

Overall the Blind Rage is a solid, dynamic and incredibly vital album, Mark's have done more than anyone could've expected on the these 3 records so my metal heart of Accept beats stronger with each new release, buy it and if you live or are in Stockholm this week (Sep 30), go and see the them live for god sake. Genesis - Supper's Ready

The end of the week is here and it's time for us to give you a Sunday Classic. With a timing of the Sunday dinner, we play a true classic, a song that in time makes it through the Sunday dinner.

Todays tune "Supper's Ready", taken from the fourth studio album "Foxtrot" by the English progressive rock band Genesis and the second from the band line-up which included Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Phil Collins, and Steve Hackett. "Watcher of the Skies" and "Get 'Em Out by Friday" appeared on 1973's Genesis Live, while the 23-minute-long "Supper's Ready" was omitted due to space considerations, though Tony Banks once said "we felt we couldn't have two records coming out in succession with that on it." Live versions of "Supper's Ready" did appear on 1977's Seconds Out (with Phil Collins on vocals and Chester Thompson on drums), the 1998 box set Genesis Archive 1967–75, and the 2008 box set Genesis 1970–1975.

The 'fox on the rocks' (spelled "focks" on the rocks in the original LP printed lyrics) is mentioned in the lyrics of the "Willow Farm" section of "Supper's Ready", and is featured in the album artwork. This figure in a red dress with a fox's head became one of Gabriel's earliest stage costumes.

Anyway, "Supper's Ready" is a nearly 23 minutes in length, the song is divided into seven sections. A number of musical and lyrical themes do re-appear throughout. The melody of the verse in section I reappears as a flute melody between sections II and III. The melody of the chorus in section I reappears with new lyrics in the coda to section VI. And the song that comprises the majority of section II reappears briefly in instrumental form at the beginning of section VI, and then returns to form the body of section VII, with new lyrics.

One commentator regarded the structure of "Supper's Ready" as a variation of sonata form—a musicological analysis by Nors Josephson proposes that "section VII may be viewed as a Lisztian, symphonic apotheosis" of the "cyclical fanfares that originated in section II." On the other hand, the individual components of "Supper's Ready" are much closer to traditional rock songs than they are to classical pieces, even if they contain elements of both.

As with many progressive rock suites, the song undergoes multiple changes in time signature, key signature, Leitmotif, instrumentation, and mood.

In an interview, Peter Gabriel summed up "Supper's Ready" as "a personal journey which ends up walking through scenes from Revelation in the Bible....I'll leave it at that."

Live performances of "Supper's Ready" were preceded by Peter Gabriel telling a story. This is the story told at the Rainbow Theatre on 20 October 1973 (as released on the Genesis Archive 1967–75 set):

"Old [Michael] went past the pet shop, which was never open, into the park, which was never closed, and the park was full of a very smooth, clean, green grass. So he took off all his clothes and began rubbing his flesh into the wet, clean, green grass. He accompanied himself with a little tune—it went like this." [Gabriel briefly performs scat singing over Collins's drum accompaniment.]

"Beneath the ground, the dirty brown writhing things called 'worms' interpreted the pitter-patter from above as rainfall. Rainfall in worm-world means two things: mating and bath time. Both of these experiences were thoroughly enjoyable to the worm colony. Within seconds, the entire surface of the park was a mass of dirty, brown, soggy, writhing forms.

"He was still pleased, old Michael, and he began whistling a tune this time to accompany himself." [Gabriel then briefly whistles the beginning of the hymn Jerusalem.] " 'Jerusalem Boogie' to us, perhaps. But to the birds it meant that supper was ready."

Todays tune "Supper's Ready" Live in Shepperton 1973, taken from the 1972 album Foxtrot.

Cannibal Corpse - Kill or Become

The Buffalo death metal band Cannibal Corpse has recently released a new blast beat "A Skeletal Domain". The album is filled with truly evil guitar melodies and dark sound. The album is the thirteen studio albums since the début album 1990 "Eaten Back to Life".

Cannibal Corpse was formed in 1988, the band has released thirteen studio albums, two box sets, four video albums and one live album. The band has had little radio or television exposure throughout its career, although a cult following began to build behind the release of their 1991 album Butchered at Birth, and 1992 album Tomb of the Mutilated. Both albums achieved worldwide sales of one million copies by 2003, including 558,929 in the United States, making them the all-time top-selling death metal band in the country.

The members of Cannibal Corpse were originally inspired by thrash metal bands like Slayer and Kreator, as well as other death metal bands such as Morbid Angel, Autopsy and Death. The band's album art (most often by Vincent Locke) and lyrics, drawing heavily on horror fiction and horror films, are highly controversial. At different times, several countries have banned Cannibal Corpse from performing within their borders, or have banned the sale and display of original Cannibal Corpse album covers.

Cannibal Corpse Consists of:

George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher – vocals
Pat O'Brien – guitars
Rob Barrett – guitars
Alex Webster – bass
Paul Mazurkiewicz – drums

The album A Skeletal Domain, were we find todays tune was produced Audiohammer Studios by Mark Lewis.

Bassist Alex Webster said "I think it's turning out to be kind of a dark-sounding album. Which, you know, it's a death metal album, so, of course, it should be kind of dark and eerie sounding anyway, but I think this one a little more than normal. That was kind of the direction the songwriting went in."

Todays tune "Kill or Become" is taken from A Skeletal Domain, the Video was released on 24th of September, 2014. Enjoy!

Cannibal Corpse European tour for the fall.

This will be their first European tour in support of their new album. The label mates Revocation have been confirmed as direct support while Swedish death metal heroes Aeon have been picked as the opening band.

Gojira - The Gift Of Guilt

The French monster "Gojira" took a turn on the record player over the weekend. During these spins did I browse through the art that Mario Duplantier creates, truly amazing stuff that can be found.

The music suits art creation well as these dudes knows how to get you going, with the power full heavy riffs that grabs you around the balls and shake you until you loose the control of time.

So sit down, relax, press play and see whats happen :)

Todays tune "The Gift Of Guilt" is taken from the fifth studio album "L'Enfant Sauvage". "The Gift of Guilt" recorded live at Brixton Academy, London in 2013. From the CD/DVD/book Les Enfants Sauvages, available now on Roadrunner Records.

Opeth - Cusp Of Eternity

A new week, which means that we will present this week's "Record of the Week".

Pale Communion, the 11th full-length release for the Swedish progressive rock/metal band "Opeth", the album was produced by bandleader Mikael Åkerfeldt and mixed by Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson.

The Swedes follows up the previous and surprising genre twist 2011's "Heritage" with the new Opeth effort, Pale Communion. The band continues on with the progressive path they made on "Heritage". The production is more expansive than before and the songs have more affinity and do not sprawl as much as it did on the last album. However, I hear more classical references now, bands like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Genesis etc. appearing in the background.

The musicians are doing a fantastic job on Pale Communion, The most notable is Martin Axenrot who makes a huge impact on this record, he plays neat, stylish and this is probably the most well-filled drumming I've heard him do. Martin Mendez support Martin well and creates a perfect rhythm section. Joakim Svalberg on keys must really have fun on this record as he gets a lot of air and can jam freely. Åkerfeldt signs good, really good and handle his guitar excellent and his guitar partner Fredrik Åkesson handles the guitar just like that he could not do anything else, splendid in other words.

Pale Communion does really fill me up with exciting moments and keeps my interest flowing. The compositions are magnificence and full of dynamics and contrast. The sound on the Vinyl is amazing, a hell of  good pressing and It's a thrill and enjoyment to play this and I do enjoy playing this from the start to finish.

Mikael Åkerfeldt said of the album, "I wanted to do something more melodic with this album, so there's stronger vocal melodies and more melodies overall for this album." .

Deluxe Pale Communion Box Set

7” of bonus track “Solitude” recorded live at Stockholm Södra Teatern in April 2012

Ufo - Love To Love

Sunday, time for a classic. Today we go in the sign of Love with a tune taken from the sixth studio album "Lights Out" by the British rock band UFO, released in May and also on 11 October 1977.

The album was UFO's first to feature lush string arrangements alongside more complex song structures than their previous albums. Producer Ron Nevison brought in Alan McMillan to handle the string and horn arrangements.

2008 EMI's remastered edition includes 4 live bonus tracks, recorded at The Roundhouse, London. The album cover erroneously states that these tracks were recorded in 1976, but the correct year is 1977. EMI did correct the writing credits, with Paul Raymond finally being credited for his contributions.

The most notable song to feature the orchestral coloring was "Love to Love" which became one of the bands most successful singles. The tune were featured in the 1999 movie Detroit Rock City. "Love to Love" was also covered by Djali Zwan for the 2002 movie Spun.

Steve Harris - primary songwriter, founder, leader and bassist of British heavy metal band Iron Maiden - calls Love To Love his favourite song.

Misty green and blue, Love to love to love you that is part of the lines in todays tune "Love To Love".
