Alcest - Kodama
Monday, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"
"Kodama" (Japanese for "tree spirit" or "echo") is the fifth studio album by blackgaze band ALCEST marks the French duo's ferocious return to the epic and contrasted style of its early works while continuing the band's relentless pursuit for fresh ideas. Combining poetic elements with darker ones, that were not present in ALCESTs earlier works, "Kodama" manifests as an intense album, featuring a more organic, punchy sound and showcasing impulses from an array of different places. This concept album is about "the confrontation of the natural world and the human world", inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's film Princess Mononoke. "Kodama" picks up on the fate of its protagonist and, at its core, deals with the sensation of not belonging; of living in between worlds, be it city and nature, the physical and spiritual one. By giving the album a cultural, stylistic and compositional narrative, Neige and Winterhalter keep "Kodama" from just being the latest improvement on the ALCEST sound and instead make the album a most rare and exciting thing: a vital, relevant record from a front runner that not only upholds the band's trailblazing legacy, but actually makes you want to see where they go next.
Musically the album is a return to the band's earlier blackgaze style, due to Neige's feeling that he "needed to go for something more punchy, darker, and more personal too." Kodama is also the first ALCEST album to feature Indria Saray performing on bass, though he has played with the band live for many years.
"Kodama" is a strikingly pretty and graceful record, a tasteful homage to the music and culture that inspired it. The record starts with the natural bittersweet title track, a wonderful piece exactly a tune that I remembered that ALCEST should sound like. Where the flow just rasps your skin and the melody signs in your brain, the blood flows fast in your vain almost like you will explode. The second piece "Eclosion" follows the same road, keeps the warm blood stream on it's course to the heart that blows more red than ever. When "Eclosion" fades away the grande "Je Suis D’Ailleurs" takes over by overwhelmingly rich layers of tingly chords, by now you are lost, the compass is failing and you are totally disoriented. When the tremolos and blast beats of "Oiseaux de Proie" takes control you will race your hands to the sky and fall down on you knees and scream out loud until the short instrumental piece "Onyx" ends the album with a great march.
Sum: Kodama delivers on all accounts an excellent and very emotionally powerful album, you need this.
Today's tune "Oiseaux de Proie" is taken from "Kodama", was released on September 30, 2016 via Prophecy Productions.

Bob Dylan - Political World
Bob Dylan was struggling to come up with the right arrangement for this tirade against the modern world when producer Daniel Lanois came up with a setting that he thought could make the song work. Guitarist Brian Stolz recalled to Uncut magazine: "Dan had an idea for a little groove, kind of a funkier groove. I remember we ran through it a few times before Bob got there. Bob came walking in the room when we were playing. He said, ''What's that?' Dan said, 'It's a little something we're working up for 'Political World.' And Bob said, 'Political World'? It doesn't go like that! It goes like this.'"
"He picked up a guitar and started playing it and we all jumped in – and my memory is that's the track you hear on the record," Stolz added. "If you listen to 'Political World' you can hear how Willie (Green, drums) doesn't even come in with the beat because he was jumping in after Bob."
In 1989, Bob Dylan released Oh Mercy, his twenty-sixth studio album. Watch the official music video of "Political World" now, directed by John Mellencamp.
Bob Dylan is a rare artist that has managed to transcend genre to become a universally praised songwriter, performer and musician of the 20th- and 21st-centuries. Starting out as a chronicler of social issues in the 1960s, Dylan has hadtrue staying power with thirty-two studio albums released in 53 years - the most recent of which is 2015's critically acclaimed Shadows in the Night.
In October 2016, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, the second to receive this honor for songwriting.

The Limiñanas - My Black Sabbath
Following the classic swinging tradition of Serge Gainsbourg and the ye-ye sound of the '60s, THE LIMIÑANAS have a sound that blends sunny psychedelia with vintage pop and garage rock infused psych. Hailing from Perpignan, a French Mediterranean port close to the Spanish border, the pair played in various punk acts before opening their record shop, Vinyl Maniac. Their next collaboration, THE LIMIÑANAS, took on a more serious focus after the family were caught up in the 2010 Haitian earthquake while visiting the country to adopt their son.
The group is made of drummer and sometimes vocalist Marie Limiñana and bassist, organist, and jack-of-all-trades Lionel Limiñana, as well as a host of guest vocalists including MU.
With its combination of fuzzy organ, half-spoken/half-sung vocals, and vintage production, the band captures the sexy, ultra-hip sound of classic French pop.
Today's tune "My Black Sabbath" is taken from "Costa Blanca", released 2013, enjoy!

Steve Gunn - Ancient Jules
Steve Gunn is a New York-based guitarist and songwriter. With a career spanning nearly fifteen years, Steve has produced volumes of critically acclaimed solo, duo, and ensemble recordings. His albums with GHQ and longtime collaborating drummer John Truscinski represent milestones of contemporary guitar-driven, forward music. Mining the catalogs of Basho, Bull, Chapman, and Sharrock, among other titans of stringed-things and record-session royalty, Steve has steadily processed these inspirations into a singular, virtuosic stream. Close listening reveals the influence of Delta and Piedmont country blues, ecstatic free jazz, and psych, as well as Gnawa and Carnatic music, on the continually unfolding compositions.
Gunn was formerly a guitarist in KURT VILEs backing band, THE VIOLATORS.Gunn has stated that his musical influences include Michael Chapman, La Monte Young, Indian music, John Fahey, Jack Rose, Robbie Basho, and Sandy Bull.

Charles Bradley - Changes
Changes is the third album released by American funk/soul singer Charles Bradley, released on 1 April 2016 on Daptone Records. The title track on the album is a cover of the BLACK SABBATH song of the same name and was first released as a Record Store Day Black Friday single in 2013.
Charles Bradley (born November 5, 1948) is an American funk/soul/R&B singer, signed to the Daptone Records label under the Dunham Records division. His performances and recording style are consistent with Daptone's revivalist approach, celebrating the feel of funk and soul music from the 1960s and 1970s.
Bradley's vocal style, describing him as "the closest living equivalent to Brown" and concluding that "Bradley sings of his aches and pleasures with such conviction that he makes one believe this is possible".
He is the subject of a documentary, Soul of America, that premiered at South by Southwest in 2012. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer in October 2016 :( FUCK CANCER!!

Recorded throughout the United Kingdom and the United States, Hawk features a number of guest musicians, including folk singer Willy Mason, bassist Bill Wells and former SMASHING PUMPKINS guitarist James Iha.

Syd Arthur - Apricity
SYD ARTHUR have released a new album "Apricity", today we will play the title track of this folk, Krautrock and saucer-eyed psychedelia jazz band from Canterbury, UK. The band was formed in 2003 by brothers frontman Liam and bassist Joel Magill, drummer Fred Rother and violinist Raven Bush. Rother was officially replaced by the Magills' younger brother Josh in 2016.
SYD ARTHUR is a group who’ve opened for PAUL WELLER and YES and are about to tour with JAKE BUGG.
Today's tune "Apricity", the title track from the new album. It was released on 21 October, 2016. Directed by Liam Magill, Filmed & Edited by Gavin Bush & Projections by Oliver ChiltonP. The Video shows SYD ARTHUR hunched over their instruments playing in near darkness, lit only by flashing shapes and amorphous blobs of colour. It’s suggestive of that clip in most BBC4 documentaries about the ’60s, the one with PINK FLOYD at the UFO club lit only by flashing shapes and amorphous blobs of colour. "Apricity" is oddball, trippy pop music that leapfrogs boundaries and eras.

Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith
Monday, new week, well you know all what that means by now.
Today will I be a bit nostalgic, an album that made a big impact on me back in the days, a record that have so many spins that I think that I'm on the 3:rd copy of the same album already, that's allot. The album that I will introduce today is "Defenders of the Faith", the ninth studio album by British heavy metal band JUDAS PRIEST. A record that had three tracks that was released as singles: "Freewheel Burning", "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" and "Love Bites".
"Defenders of the Faith" is one of the first real Heavy Metal album I bought as a kid, it's was so new, different, hard, fast and heavy. A record that was driven by constant aggression and power. I was familiar with "Breaking The Law", "United" and "Hell Bent For Leather" back then but this was something new, I remember that I was totally speckless and paralysed when the first spin was running on my own Sharp VZ-1500 stereo. A pretty cool thing that you could play both sides without lifting a finger, see picture below. (Had to google it as I don't find any picture of it now, mine was black)
Musically, it follows the same path as "Screaming for Vengeance", but here with more speed and fist-pumping midtempo grooves with a more commercial accessibility. It have the classic motorcycle-riding, leather-clad headbangers with speedy galloping riffs and pulse all through the album. The album contains many excellent tunes, to be honest, non are bad. All from the high-energy amazing album opener "Freewheel Burning" to "Jawbreaker" and then the terrific "Rock Hard Ride Free" and "The Sentinel" that have a bit more complex approach. The excellent and a bit confused tune "Love Bites" to cheesy S&M themed "Eat Me Alive", that still have the power to kick anyone of the bed. "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" have a bit more darker feeling, a tune that ended up on the 2001 Clear Channel memorandum banned songs-list after 9/11. The half ballad "Night Comes Down" is a real beauty. Yes the lyrics is flimsy cock rock songs, but who cares, it's damn good.
Doug Johnson designed the cover art for "Defenders of the Faith", featuring a colourful, transformer-like beast/tank/thing that the band decided to baptized as the "Metallian".
Sum: "Defenders of the Faith" is a record that should be in every rockers record shelf, is the peak of the classic JUDAS PRIEST lineup with the most consistent songs, technical ability and authenticity.
Today's tune "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" is taken from the "Record Of The Week" album Defenders of the Faith", released on 4 January 1984.

Don McLean - American Pie
Sunday, time for a classic.
"American Pie" is a song by American folk rock singer and songwriter Don McLean. Recorded and released on the American Pie album in 1971, the single was a number-one US hit for four weeks in 1972. In the UK, the single reached No. 2 on its original 1972 release and a reissue in 1991 reached No. 12. The song was covered by Madonna in 2000 and reached No. 1 in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
This song made the 26-year-old McLean very famous very quickly, which was difficult for the songwriter. McLean was prone to depression, losing his father at age 15 and dealing with a bad marriage when recording the album. So when the song hit, it thrust him into the spotlight and took the focus away from the body of his work. In a 1973 interview with NME, he explained: "I was headed on a certain course, and the success I got with 'American Pie' really threw me off. It just shattered my lifestyle and made me quite neurotic and extremely petulant. I was really prickly for a long time. If the things you're doing aren't increasing your energy and awareness and clarity and enjoyment, then you feel as though you're moving blindly. That's what happened to me. I seemed to be in a place where nothing felt like anything, and nothing meant anything. Literally nothing mattered. It was very hard for me to wake up in the morning and decide why it was I wanted to get up."
At 8 minutes 32 seconds, this is the longest song in length to hit #1 on the Hot 100. The single was split in two parts because the 45 did not have enough room for the whole song on one side. The A-side ran 4:11 and the B-side was 4:31 - you had to flip the record in the middle to hear all of it. Disc jockeys usually played the album version at full length, which was to their benefit because it gave them time for a snack, a cigarette or a bathroom break.
On February, 3rd, 1959, 22 year old Buddy Holly, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and Ritchie Valens, aged 17, died in a crash shortly after take-off from Clear Lake, Iowa. All three were travelling to Fargo, North Dakota, for the next show on their Winter Dance Party Tour which Holly had set, covering 24 cities in three weeks, to make money after the break-up of his band, The Crickets, last year.
The bus they had originally planned to use developed heating problems, but Buddy was able to find a plane at the last minute.
Also on this day, in 1978 Holly's Lubbock, TX birth home is miraculously saved from demolition by its new owner, who had, a few days prior, bought the house scheduled to be demolished on this very day. Neither the city nor the new resident had any idea of the home's significance.
Don McLean: "For some reason I wanted to write a big song about America and about politics, but I wanted to do it in a different way. As I was fiddling around, I started singing this thing about the Buddy Holly crash, the thing that came out (singing), 'Long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile.'
"I thought, Whoa, what's that? And then the day the music died, it just came out. And I said, Oh, that is such a great idea. And so that's all I had. And then I thought, I can't have another slow song on this record. I've got to speed this up. I came up with this chorus, crazy chorus. And then one time about a month later I just woke up and wrote the other five verses. Because I realized what it was, I knew what I had. And basically, all I had to do was speed up the slow verse with the chorus and then slow down the last verse so it was like the first verse, and then tell the story, which was a dream. It is from all these fantasies, all these memories that I made personal. Buddy Holly's death to me was a personal tragedy. As a child, a 15-year-old, I had no idea that nobody else felt that way much. I mean, I went to school and mentioned it and they said, 'So what?' So I carried this yearning and longing, if you will, this weird sadness that would overtake me when I would look at this album, The Buddy Holly Story, because that was my last Buddy record before he passed away."
In whole and in parts, this song carries deep and heartfelt memories to many, including me. One of the great songs of all-time.
Today's tune "American Pie" have a full length Video.
This video was created in 1989 by a group of professional video makers, who believed that they could create a video for a fantastic song from the past. Songs that were released and were big hits, BEFORE videos were ever conceived. These videos were aired on TV back in 1989, on a show called DEJA VIEW, hosted by John Sebastian. Never at anytime, was this song, or video, used to make money, sold, or transferred for profit by me. I have posted this video, out of love for the music and respect for all the people involved.

Shadow Witch - Creeper
Kingston, New York, four-piece SHADOW WITCH have release their debut album "Sun Killer", that sound-wise digs into dudely heavy with a side-order of hey-check-it-out-it’s-tits objectification in the artwork and the like-you-better-without-clothes lyrics, it's heavy, doomy and sludgey. Fuzz out stoner riffs in the guitar and a cultish swirl vocals. A mix between ALICE IN CHAINS and BLACK SABBATH.

Kings of Leon - Waste A Moment
Walls (stylized as WALLS) is the seventh studio album by American rock band KINGS OF LEON. It was released on October 14, 2016, by RCA Records. The album title is an acronym for We Are Like Love Songs; which continues the band's unwritten rule of having five-syllable album titles on a technicality.
Following their New Year's Eve show in Nashville, Nathan Followill said the band are aiming to release album seven in 2016: "We've already started pre-production in our studio for the next record, but the main thing on the calendar for 2016 is getting the record finished. And then the whole press machine kicks up and doing press for the record." Caleb added "We enjoy this part of the process. Obviously there's a lot of work that goes into it and it can get stressful at times, but we're all in a good place and we're having fun with it and we're all excited to do something new." The album is likely to be recorded in LA, with Caleb saying the band are looking for inspiration: "We might just try to get a little change of scenery. Our first two albums we recorded in L.A., so we're going to try to go back and see if it inspires us," he said. "If it doesn't, we always have a studio at home, so we can always come back."
KINGS OF LEON is an American rock band that formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2000. The band is composed of brothers Caleb Followill (b. January 14, 1982, lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Nathan Followill (b. June 26, 1979, drums, percussion, backing vocals) and Jared Followill (b. November 20, 1986, bass guitar, backing vocals), with their cousin Matthew Followill (b. September 10, 1984, lead guitar, backing vocals).
Today's tune "Waste A Moment" is the first single release from the brand new album "WALLS". The single was released on September 9, 2016.
The second single, "WALLS", was released on September 22. The third single "Around the World" was released on the September 29. The fourth song, "Reverend", was made available on streaming platforms on October 6.

Dark Suns - The Fountain Garden
DARK SUNS is a German progressive metal band formed in 1997. It is currently composed of guitarists Maik Knappe and Torsten Wenzel, with Maik's brother Niko performing the vocals and drums. The band has released one demo, one EP, and five studio albums as of 2016.
The band was founded in 1997 by Tobias Gommlich and Niko Knappe, two well known players of the local metal scene in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany. DARK SUNS was initially planned to only be a side project for Knappe and Gommlich, but they spent more and more time on it, eventually finding themselves absorbed in this "side project". In 1998 they recorded a demo called "Below Dark Illusion". During that time they had numerous band member changes. Their first EP, Suffering the "Psychopathic Results of Daily Blasphemy" was released in 1999, and contained only one, 14-minute song.
The band began to write their first album "Swanlike", in 2001, and self-released it in 2002. In 2003, guitarist Gommlich left the band, to be replaced by Torsten Wenzel. This lineup would remain the same through the 2005 release of the band's second, album, "Existence". This album showed a change in musical style, including the dropping of the death growls used in "Swanlike", and a change from the death/doom style to a progressive metal style. A remastered version of "Swanlike" was released the same day, through Prophecy Productions.
In 2006, Christoph Bormann left the band, leaving them without a bassist. As of 2007, the band did not yet have a bassist, instead relying on PAIN OF SALVATIONs Kristoffer Gildenlöw as a session artist to perform the bass parts on the new material they were recording. "Grave Human Genuine" was released on February 22, 2008.
After the release of "Grave Human Genuine", keyboardist Thomas Bremer left the band, with Ekkehard Meister joining the band taking over keyboard duties. Around the same time, Jacob Müller joined the band as the new bassist. With a complete band in hand, DARK SUNS started work on their next album "Orange", which was released in 2011. The new album explored a different direction for the band, taking on a 70's progressive rock sound. This radical departure in style is similar to what OPETH and Steven Wilson did in "Heritage" and "Grace For Drowning" respectively, both of which were released in the same year as "Orange". Now they are back with a new and fifth album "Everchild", still progressive, but with a more down to earth feeling, it's modern and very well executed.
Yes it's released on Vinyl |
DARK SUNS consist of:
Niko Knappe - Vocals
Maik Knappe - Guitars
Torsten Wenzel - Guitars
Ekkehard Meister - Piano, Organ
Dominique Ehlert - Drums
Jacob Müller - Bass
Evgeny Ring - Sax

Meshuggah - Clockworks
The Violent Sleep of Reason is the eighth studio album by the Swedish extreme metal band MESHUGGAH, formed 1987 in Umeå. MESHUGGAHs line-up consists of founding members vocalist Jens Kidman and lead guitarist Fredrik Thordendal, drummer Tomas Haake, who joined in 1990, rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström, who joined in 1992 and bassist Dick Lövgren since 2004.
The album's title was loosely inspired by The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters, an etching by Spanish painter Francisco Goya. The album's title and lyrical themes are a commentary on terrorism, extremist views on ideals, religious dogma, and the violent implications of "being asleep, so to speak, or not reacting to what's going on in the proper way". Concerning the album artwork, Tomas Haake stated:
"It was a hard one in the sense that you don't immediately have a visual to the title The Violent Sleep of Reason – how do you portray that?
"So when discussing this with Keerych Luminokaya, who also did the artwork for our 25th anniversary box set along with the artwork for Koloss, we just let him loose on that idea and how to portray that.
"What you're seeing on the artwork is basically a human being that's been in stasis for a long time. The vines were the original idea – they're growing into him. But it's a body that's been asleep for so long that it's been taken over by something else."
In an attempt to depart from the production on previous albums like Koloss and obZen, this album was recorded live. According to Haake, this allowed the band to capture their sound more "honestly" and to capture the "rawness" of albums from the '80s and early '90s that "inspired us when were growing up." Haake elaborated:
"If you put it all together using computers then you often have to fix problems after the fact. I've gone back to records where I've not known every drum part. And once you do that you can start with drums and then just add layers of guitars and then bass and it all sounds perfect.
"ObZen and Koloss are great albums but, to me, they are a little too perfect. It didn't really capture what we sounded like honestly. "But where we recorded live you get to hear the push and pull, one person might be a little ahead and the other might be a little behind. If you kill that, you can kill the energy."
Today's tune "Clockworks" is a single taken from the latest album "The Violent Sleep of Reason", released on 7 October 2016 on Nuclear Blast. Official music video (produced by Julius Horsthuis).

Green Carnation - Sweet Leaf
GREEN CARNATION is new a new acquaintance, a band that was formed as early as in 1990, but after Terje "Tchort" Schei joined EMEPEROR for the "Darkside Eclipse" album shortly after, the band was put on hold until the debut album, "A Journey To The End Of The Night" was released in 2000. "Light of Day, Day of Darkness" followed in 2001, before the band took a change in direction, with "A Blessing In Disguise" (2003) and "The Quiet Offspring" (2005) before the band went all-acoustic with "Acoustic Verses" (2006). GREEN CARNATION established their cult status among progrock and avantgarde metal fans all over the world in the early 2000s with their 60-minute masterpiece Light of Day, Day of Darkness and have been critically acclaimed throughout their career for their artistic creativity and astonishing musical concepts.
That's about it, no more records, but the future looks bright.
On August 12, 2016, it was announced that EMEPEROR would be reunite again in 2017 for a special set of performances to celebrate their 20th anniversary second studio album "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk". So I guess more will come (: On the bands homepage you can read following lines:

Opeth - Sorceress
Monday and a new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".
"Sorceress" is the twelfth studio album by the Swedish band OPETH. The album was released on 30 September 2016 via record label Nuclear Blast and the band's own imprint Moderbolaget. The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales. Following the album's release, the band will embark on a world tour with American band THE SWORD as support, see tour dates below.
2016 marks the monumental return of one of heavy rock’s most unique, revered and fearless bands of the last three decades, OPETH. Over the years, the experimental, prog veterans have continuously reinvented themselves, pushing the boundaries of their craft and expectations of fans and critics alike.
"Sorceress" is the 3:rd album that follows the new path of progressive folk rock and is album with great material and with more creative control from a band that dares to take new steps. "Sorceress" is even wider than "Heritage" and "Pale Communion".
The album have many excellent tunes like the gorgeous folksy "Will O the Wisp" to the RUSH alike "Era" or the more traditional outfit in "The Wilde Flowers". The title track "Sorceress" could have been on "Pale Communion", great piece. There is a few real highlights, like "The Seventh Sojourn" where some world music slips in with some grandiose sitar and strings, very beautiful. The duelling organ and guitars of "Chrysalis" and with Åkerfeldt’s confidence singing with a embraced control. "Strange Brew" could be the albums strongest tune with it's spacey masterclass of riff-centric hard prog glory. "Sorceress" is a really good album!
”The new album "Sorceress" is our 12th studio album since our beginnings in 1990,” says Åkerfeldt. “I find it difficult to understand that we’ve been going on for 26 years, let alone that we’ve made 12 records now, all of which I am very proud of. ”Sorceress” is no exception. I love this album, as does the whole band. I wrote the music during 5-6 months and we spent only 12 days recording it at Rockfield studios in Wales. I find that once again we’ve taken a step forward. Or sideways, Or backwards. Somewhere!? It’s different! It’s extremely diverse. And if I may say so myself, extremely good. I feel the right to say that since I like to think I know this band better than anyone on the planet. Also, I always manage to detach myself from the record and listen as a fan. It’s a fine little record. My favorite in our discography right now. Of course. That’s how it should be, right? It’s both fresh and old, both progressive and rehashed. Heavy and calm. Just the way we like it. Hopefully there’ll be others around the globe sharing this opinion. It was a joy to make it. A fucking joy to record it, and a sheer joy listening to it. So there you have it!”
Sum: The 2016 OPETH is heavier than ever and that needs to fit in your record shelf!
Today's tune is the title track from "Sorceress", enjoy!

Warlock - Three Minute Warning
Sunday, time for a classic.
"Three Minute Warning" is a fast rocker that will kick you of bed if you still lying there.
The tune is taken from the fourth and final studio album "Triumph and Agony" by the German heavy metal band WARLOCK, released on 5 September 1987.
The album was recorded in the US with producer Joey Balin and a different band line-up in comparison with the previous album "True as Steel", which had made the name of WARLOCK known outside of Europe. Peter Szigeti and Frank Rittel were replaced in 1987 by the American musicians Tommy Bolan and Tommy Henriksen respectively. The album also features British drummer Cozy Powell on some tracks. WARLOCK were one of the few successful female-fronted heavy metal bands in the circuit during the 80s, when the scene was dominated by macho singers.
By the end of the decade, Doro Pesch was the sole original member who remained in the band and she was forced to change the name to DORO for legal reasons. DORO, the band, continues to play several songs taken from the WARLOCK repertoire in their live shows.
Today's tune "Three Minute Warning" is filmed live @ the Royal Oak Music Theatre, Detroit, MI 1988. Great stuff!!

Pain - Designed To Piss You Off
Coming Home is the eighth album by Swedish metal band PAIN, released on September 9, 2016 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Amongst metal's heaviest, darkest and meanest diehards Peter Tägtgren is known first and foremost as the frontman and founder of HYPOCRISY, then as a producer who has racked up time in his Abyss Studio since 1995 with seemingly every metal band under the sun.
During the five year gap between You Only Live Twice (2011) and Coming Home, PAIN did a decent amount of touring and Peter succeeded in blindsiding the metal community by teaming up with seemingly reclusive RAMMSTEIN frontman Till Lindemann. The duo released the Lindemann debut, Skills And Pills, backed by some huge label confidence and promotional firepower, guaranteeing that everyone heard about Lindemann whether they liked the PAIN-STEIN sound of the project or not.
"It was great, we had the time of our lives," Peter laughs. "Just two idiots out in the world doing promotion and it was great. We had such a blast. It's a memory for life. We started with one song and we all know how it ended. It was amazing. Till is fucked up which is why we fit together (laughs). There were no rules for anything when we made the album. It was all 'follow your heart.'"
"Coming Home" includes drummer Sebastian Tägtgren, Peter's seventeen-year-old son who delivers an impressive guest appearance on the title track as well as SABATON's Joakim Brodén who joins the team for some typically raw warrior vocals on "Call Me".
Today's tune "Designed To Piss You Off" is taken form the latest album "Coming Home", Enjoy!
