Steve Gunn - Ancient Jules
Steve Gunn is a New York-based guitarist and songwriter. With a career spanning nearly fifteen years, Steve has produced volumes of critically acclaimed solo, duo, and ensemble recordings. His albums with GHQ and longtime collaborating drummer John Truscinski represent milestones of contemporary guitar-driven, forward music. Mining the catalogs of Basho, Bull, Chapman, and Sharrock, among other titans of stringed-things and record-session royalty, Steve has steadily processed these inspirations into a singular, virtuosic stream. Close listening reveals the influence of Delta and Piedmont country blues, ecstatic free jazz, and psych, as well as Gnawa and Carnatic music, on the continually unfolding compositions.
Gunn was formerly a guitarist in KURT VILEs backing band, THE VIOLATORS.Gunn has stated that his musical influences include Michael Chapman, La Monte Young, Indian music, John Fahey, Jack Rose, Robbie Basho, and Sandy Bull.
Today's tune "Ancient Jules" is taken from the latest release "Eyes On The Lines", released June 3rd 2016. The Video is Directed by Claes Nordwall Video credits: Director: Claes Nordwall, Producer: Douglas Cox, DOP: Nicolas Booth, AC: Stephen Dunn, Editor: Claes Nordwall, Colourist: Thomas Mangham at The Mill, Starring Michael Chapman and Steve Gunn

Jeff Beck - Live In The Dark
The English rock guitarist Jeff Beck have pretty recent released his eleventh studio album "Loud Hailer". An album that shows that Beck is fully engaged with the world. "Loud Hailer" is a colorful book of Southern Blues, Modern Funk and Vampy Rock.
He is one of the three noted guitarists to have played with THE YARDBIRDS (the other two being Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page). Beck also formed The Jeff Beck Group and BECK, BOGERT & APPICE.
Much of Beck's recorded output has been instrumental, with a focus on innovative sound, and his releases have spanned genres ranging from blues rock, hard rock, jazz fusion, and an additional blend of guitar-rock and electronica. Although he recorded two hit albums (in 1975 and 1976) as a solo act, Beck has not established or maintained the sustained commercial success of many of his contemporaries and bandmates. Beck appears on albums by Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Morrissey, Jon Bon Jovi, Malcolm McLaren, Kate Bush, Roger Waters, Donovan, Stevie Wonder, Les Paul, Zucchero, Cyndi Lauper, Brian May, Stanley Clarke, Screaming Lord Sutch and ZZ Top.
He was ranked fifth in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and the magazine, upon whose cover Beck has appeared three times, has described him as "one of the most influential lead guitarists in rock". He is often called a "guitarist's guitarist". Beck has earned wide critical praise and received the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance six times and Best Pop Instrumental Performance once. In 2014 he received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. Beck has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: as a member of the Yardbirds (1992) and as a solo artist (2009).
Today's tune "Live In The Dark" is taken from the eleventh studio album "Loud Hailer", released on 15 July 2016 on Atco Records.

Yngwie Malmsteen - What Do You Want
Sunday, time for a classic.
Eclipse is the fifth studio album by guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, released in 1990 through Polydor Records. The album contains a competent set of neo-classical rockers including today's tune "What do you want" that I play as a memory to the recent loss of Mats Olausson who was the keyboard player on this album.
Yngwie Johan Malmsteen; born Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck, 30 June 1963) is a Swedish guitarist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and bandleader. Malmsteen became known for his neo-classical playing style in heavy metal.
Personnel on Eclipse album:
Yngwie Malmsteen – guitar, guitar synthesizer, Moog Taurus, arrangement, background vocals, production
Göran Edman – lead vocals
Mats Olausson – keyboard, background vocals
Michael Von Knorring – drums
Svante Henryson – bass, background vocals
Tom Fletcher – engineering, mixing
Keith Rose – engineering assistance
Roger Hughes – engineering assistance
Bob Ludwig – mastering
Little over a week ago I heard the sad news that Mats Olausson have passed away. He was is best known as the keyboard player in Yngwie Malmsteen band throughout the ‘90s, he died in Thailand. He was 54.
The Bangkok Post reports that Olausson was found dead in his hotel in Rayong on Thursday (Feb. 19) by an employee who noted that Olausson had not paid for his room or been seen in the hotel dining room. Upon entering, he found Olausson’s body along with numerous empty bottles of whiskey and cans of beer. He was identified by his passport.
Upon investigating the scene, police found no evidence of a struggle and believed that he had been dead for at least 24 hours. Olausson’s body will be sent to the Institute of Forensic Science in Bangkok for an autopsy.
According to his bio, Olausson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1961 and received formal, classical piano training. Influenced by prog, he moved to Stockholm in the ‘80s and found work as a session musician. This included a stint working with Jean Beauvoir of the Plasmatics, performing on his 1988 album Jacknifed and embarking on a tour where they opened for the Eurythmics. Towards the end of the decade, he joined forces with Malmsteen and was a member of his band for nearly 12 years.
From there, he was in a succession of groups, including a cover band in Thailand, before leaving the road and returning to session work in Sweden.
Today's tune "What Do You Want" is in memory of Mats Olausson, R.I.P.

Annihilator - Alison Hell
Jeff Waters visited Sweden last week and conducted a clinic for Epiphone, where he released his signature guitar. It was a very interesting meeting in which Jeff mixed a type of stand-up komedian with heavy guitar riffs and some songs from his own archives.
He talked a lot about Canada and Ikea, his influences and how he started playing the guitar by listening to Metallica and Slayer (which is his favorite band). How his guitar playing has been influenced by these heroes, were his riffs are coming from.
It was actually really entertaining and it turned up some tricky questions. Songs like The Trend, Alison Hell and Phoenix Rising Among others were played.
He also asked the audience to wish for the Annihilator for upcoming Sweden Rock Festival, almost felt like they were already ready for the festival. Finished the clinic to hand out Epiphone T-shirts and sign various stuff that fans and other loose people had with them.
Epiphone has a long history of supplying some of the greatest guitarists of all time with the instrument they need to excel. Annihilator is a Canadian heavy metal band hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, also from Vancouver, British Columbia between 1987-2002 by founding member, vocalist, guitarist and bassist Jeff Waters. The band has been around since 1984 and is the biggest selling heavy metal artist from Canada in history, yet most of the sales have not been in the band's home country. Dave Padden joined Annihilator in 2003 as lead vocalist and has continued his career with the band since, as rhythm guitarist/vocalist.
With this, I offer ofcourse some pictures and an Annihilator song.
Enjoy.
Todays tune "Alison Hell" is taken from the first album "Alice in Hell", released in 1989. The song is based on a true story about a young girl in Montreal, Canada, Alice who lives in fear of seeing the boogey man. Her parents ignore her pleas for comfort, calling it a phase. Her fear only increases as time goes on. She becomes so fearful that she reaches full insanity.
