Tribulation - The Lament

The Swedish death metallers TRIBULATION are back with a brand new cut "The Lament" taken from the upcoming album "Down Below" will be released on January 26th, 2018.

The band formed in 2005 in Arvika, Sweden. In early 2009, the band released its debut studio album "The Horror". Their second full length studio album "The Formulas of Death" was released in 2013. In 2015, they released their third full length studio album "Children of the Night". Though their debut album sits firmly within the old school death metal genre, their later albums are a radical departure from this sound, drawing significantly on traditional heavy metal, psychedelic rock, gothic rock, as well as the occult and supernatural mythology. The fourth album "Down Below" will be released next year. Preceding the album release they are releasing an EP "Lady Death" that will be released on December 22nd.

Some Comments on the producer and director of the latest Video, Robert Piel.

"We always plant strange seeds, seeds that when fully grown and ripened have taken their own often unexpected twists and turns. When working with this video we got to share that process with someone else who is also planting strange seeds. Director and producer Robert Piel approached us and wanted to make a collaboration, which was something that we gladly accepted after seeing his previous work and after seeing how well we got along and how our cinematic references really overlapped. It’s rare that you find people who have that creative spark that lacks in most of us and the discipline to fully get the job done. Robert and his entire crew had that! They all put a lot of effort and work into this and we all gladly endured the long and cold German nights. We hope you all enjoy our artistic amalgamation!"

The art on the EP and Album is done by Jonathan Hultén.

The album will be available in the following formats:

Deluxe LP with heavy stock gatefold sleeve, 180 gram vinyl and LP-booklet

The Obsessed - Sacred

New Week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

The mythos of THE OBSESSED returns with the fantastic milestone "Sacred". It's their first studio album in over 20 years. Led by legendary frontman Scott "Wino" Weinrich (SAINT VITUS, SPIRIT CARAVAN to name a few).

THE OBSESSED originally formed in 1976 and released three seminal stoner / doom albums in the early 90's, including "The Church Within" which has been hailed as one of the important records in the genre's history. Now, after reforming in 2016, the band has returned with renewed energy and purpose, sounding heavier and more relevant than ever before. The lineup consist of Wino’s longtime friend and former road crew member Brian Costantino (Drums) and Reid Raley (Bass & Vocals) and of course Scott "Wino” Weinrich (Guitar & Vocals).

"Sacred" kicks on with a remake of "Sodden Jackal", that was released on their 1999s album "Incarnate", here the tune have gotten a more deeper sound, much heavier and doomier, more powerful than ever, Wino's vocal is clearer and have a more punch. The tune got a new life indeed, a very good remake. "Punk Crusher" has a more classic hard rock approach, with a thundering chorus. The title song and today's tune "Sacred" has a more typical Wino layout, melodic and heavy. The record have a good mix between the styles of "Classic Rock", all from the light punkish "Haywire" and "Be The Night", the rocker "Razor Wire" to a more punchy radio rock friendly "Perseverance Of Futility" or the instrumental jam-oriented "Cold Blood". The THIN LIZZY cover "It's Only Money" is real heavy rocker were Wino sounds like an old Phil Lynott, cool version. The catchy, melancholic charm of "Stranger Things" is one if the hightlights with it's bluesy doom/rock groove. There are two bonus tracks on the deluxe version of the LP, the awesome nine minutes doomy "On So Long" with a amazing guitar work and the catchy classic rocker "Crossroader".

Deluxe Vinyl Version

Sum: "Sacred" is an extensive musical journey that is very fun to listen to.

Today's tune "Sacred" is the title track from the "Record Of The Week", enjoy!

Dark Suns - The Fountain Garden

DARK SUNS is a German progressive metal band formed in 1997. It is currently composed of guitarists Maik Knappe and Torsten Wenzel, with Maik's brother Niko performing the vocals and drums. The band has released one demo, one EP, and five studio albums as of 2016.

The band was founded in 1997 by Tobias Gommlich and Niko Knappe, two well known players of the local metal scene in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany. DARK SUNS was initially planned to only be a side project for Knappe and Gommlich, but they spent more and more time on it, eventually finding themselves absorbed in this "side project". In 1998 they recorded a demo called "Below Dark Illusion". During that time they had numerous band member changes. Their first EP, Suffering the "Psychopathic Results of Daily Blasphemy" was released in 1999, and contained only one, 14-minute song.

The band began to write their first album "Swanlike", in 2001, and self-released it in 2002. In 2003, guitarist Gommlich left the band, to be replaced by Torsten Wenzel. This lineup would remain the same through the 2005 release of the band's second, album, "Existence". This album showed a change in musical style, including the dropping of the death growls used in "Swanlike", and a change from the death/doom style to a progressive metal style. A remastered version of "Swanlike" was released the same day, through Prophecy Productions.

In 2006, Christoph Bormann left the band, leaving them without a bassist. As of 2007, the band did not yet have a bassist, instead relying on PAIN OF SALVATIONs Kristoffer Gildenlöw as a session artist to perform the bass parts on the new material they were recording. "Grave Human Genuine" was released on February 22, 2008.

After the release of "Grave Human Genuine", keyboardist Thomas Bremer left the band, with Ekkehard Meister joining the band taking over keyboard duties. Around the same time, Jacob Müller joined the band as the new bassist. With a complete band in hand, DARK SUNS started work on their next album "Orange", which was released in 2011. The new album explored a different direction for the band, taking on a 70's progressive rock sound. This radical departure in style is similar to what OPETH and Steven Wilson did in "Heritage" and "Grace For Drowning" respectively, both of which were released in the same year as "Orange". Now they are back with a new and fifth album "Everchild", still progressive, but with a more down to earth feeling, it's modern and very well executed.

Yes it's released on Vinyl

DARK SUNS consist of:

Niko Knappe - Vocals
Maik Knappe - Guitars
Torsten Wenzel - Guitars
Ekkehard Meister - Piano, Organ
Dominique Ehlert - Drums
Jacob Müller - Bass
Evgeny Ring - Sax
Govinda Abbott - Trumpet

Today's tune "The Fountain Garden" is taken from the latest album "Everchild", The Video was filmed by Philipp Gründig. Music and Production by DARK SUNS.
All paintings used in the video drawn by the wonderful Alina Fontain.
Mixed by Peter Junge, London

C R O W N - Serpents

Hailing from France, C R O W N is a one man band headed by Stephane A and a three men and a machine live band who tune their neutron guitars to the Richter scale, and deliver the sound of a molten universe collapsing. Touching on early ISIS, GODFLESH, FLOOR and even KILLING JOKE, NIN, C R O W N explore the depths of slow tempos on their debut album, The One, and their split EP with St Valley through sheer exuberant heaviness.

The trio’s depth-charging guitars and buried melodic tendencies snake around hissing electronics, a tribal / military percussive thwack, and the splashing cymbals of a minimal-yet-completely-effective drum-machine. Their sound is further emboldened by a massive bestial roar, heavy and oppressive, leading to an abyss of nothingness…. Welcome to the dark, spiraling, and obscure experiments of C R O W N.

Since January 2014, Frederyk Rotter from Zatokrev joined forces for a three piece crushing live act.

CROWN LIVE 2015 :
Stephane A : Vocals, Guitars, Machines
Frederyk R : Vocals, Guitars
Pascal G : Guitars

The album is released on 500 Limited Edition Double 180 Gram Red Vinyl / Clear Vinyl

Today's tune "Serpents" is taken from the album "Natron" (2015)

Hong Faux - A Message from Dystopia

The Sweden rockers HONG FAUX takes the position 10 on Tune Of The Days "Best Albums 2015" with the album "A Message from Dystopia".

A record that has grown a lot the last months and I just dig it. I guess the secret is the wide musical palette, well-written tunes and an awesome song craft. A great genre mixture where the flow is magnificent without feeling the slightest contrived. Well done guys!

Today's tune is "No Exit" taken from "A Message from Dystopia", no Video was found so it's only Spotify, enjoy!

Ironbird - Hard Times Light Shines

Monday, New week and it's time to introduce this week's "Record Of The Week"

Record Of The Week is "Black Mountain", the latest release on "Transubstans Records" from the Swedish band IRONBIRD.

IRONBIRD was formed by Magnus Jernström (MANGROVE). With a perfect blending of skilled musicians and visions, IRONBIRD manages to create a unique mix of the 70's best era along with the heavy days of the 90's.

"Black Mountain" is classic hard rock album with it´s roots in the seventies retro genre, the record is crammed with heavy boiling riffs, doomish sound and pounding rhythms. The vocals are slightly like Ozzy Osbourne. While their influences are a familiar mix of BLACK SABBATH hard rock and 90’s stoner rock. It's energetic and full of spirits, also a handful of psychedelia. The songs have a great substance and are backed up with skilled musicians.

I highly recommend the astonishing début "Black Mountian" with IRONBIRD, perfect for fans of classic Hard Rock.

My copy of Black Mountain.

IRONBIRD consists of:

Magnus Jernström - Guitar
Rasmus Jansson - Vocals
Fredrik Schönbeck - Bass
Magnus Arndtzén - Drums
Jonas Edler - Spirit, Percussion

Todays tune is the smoker "Hard Times Light Shines", enjoy it!

Record Madness: E

Record Madness is a project between Metal blog and Tune Of The Day, a project that have now been running for some time.

In short, its based on a closer look at our record collection, and the rules are relatively simple.

There will be challenges between us. Everything is about to dive into the shelf and pick up the records with the letter which you have been challenged with. One tells stories, shows pictures, a little anecdotes, or anything that affects the character that is current at the moment. The posts ends with a challenge in the form of a letter from the alphabet sent to Chief Rebel on Metal blog. Then he makes the same thing with his record shelf (hey CD!) But with his twist and his angle on it before he sends back a letter. Then it all goes back and forth like a pinball machine, but in slow motion.

Everything started with "Chief Rebel" who dived into the letter "A", and wrote a mammoth post with lots of pictures of what was in his record shelf under the letter A. Then he has described what he has under "R","G", "U", "S", "T" and now latest "H" (ARGUS TH)

Now we have come up a bit in the process and I have harvested both the letter "L", "Q", "B", "U", "D", "F" and today we'll see what is hidden behind the letter "E" (LQBUDFE)

That it this has taken some time is simply that the time was not there to be used for this, but it is what it is and this serial will take the time to go through was something we agreed in the beginning of this journey, mostly because of my profession that takes most of my time, but as they say, the one who waits for something good always waiting forever for it!  (:

Alright let's get it going. "E" is a pretty average letter, that contains a pretty big mix lot of artists and genres, "E" has a pretty good place to the left and still in a standing height in the record shelf.

Once I have browsed through the albums I quickly notice that it contains a really mixed output, kinda funny indeed. But like some other letters, there are a lot of holes to fill in. There a few records that not is displayed here, as they are standing in a box a long way from here and hopefully will be here in a few years :)

This time we start off with the digital media and going thru the pile of CD's that I have. And yes it's backward :)

First out from the top left is the Melodic Progressive Metal band from Budapest, Hungary, "Everwood" - Mind Games (2005), German band "Everon" - Fantasma (2000), Swedish "The Exploding Boy" - Exploding Boy (2007) and the supergroup "Explorers Club" - Age Of Impact (1998)

Anyway, I hope it was an interesting reading.

Now we throw the ball to Cheif and challenge him in the same letter "E",
it will be very interesting to see what he can come up with here, who knows, maybe some Entombed I guess among others?

Todays tune will be posted later on this evening, based on the letter "E" of course and as it's sunday it will be a classic tune of one of the records that has been showed here, stay tuned.

Cheers
