"Nutshell" is a song by ALICE IN CHAINS that originally appeared on the band's 1994 extended play "Jar Of Flies". The band played it on "MTV Unplugged" in 1996, and this rendition of the song was included on the compilation album "Music Bank" (1999), as well as "The Essential Alice in Chains" (2006). Since 2011, guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell dedicates "Nutshell" to ALICE IN CHAINS' late original members Layne Staley and Mike Starr during the band's concerts.
Bassist Mike Inez said of "Nutshell" when asked what song makes him think of Layne Staley the most:
I think the No. 1 for me is "Nutshell." Layne was very honest with his songwriting. And in "Nutshell," he really put everything in a nutshell for everybody. That song still gets me choked up whenever I play it. I get a little teary-eyed, and sometimes when we're doing the arena runs especially, they'll have some video footage of Layne. And I look and see me and Jerry [Cantrell, vocals and guitar] and Sean [Kinney, drums] looking the wrong way. We're not looking at the audience, we're looking back at Layne, and it's pretty cool that there's still that song for us. Yeah, it's just a sad thing.
Today's version is not any kind of version, today's "Nutshell" is made by Mark Lanegan (SCREAMING TREES, MAD SEASON) & Maggie Björklund (CALEXICO, GIANT SAND & Jack White). A tune where they perform "Nutshell" by ALICE IN CHAINS at MoPOP's Founders Award fundraiser.
The Museum of Pop Culture's one-night-only annual benefit event streamed for FREE on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 with an unforgettable performance from Seattle's own ALICE IN CHAINS, plus an acclaimed lineup of tribute artists who put their own spin on some of the band's most iconic songs.
The Founders Award event serves as the nonprofit museum’s principal annual fundraiser for youth development programs, access initiatives, community engagement, and world-class exhibitions.
From the opening bars of Disbelief Suspension onwards, it’s clear that "Somebody’s Knocking" is an album made by someone deeply obsessed with how music – with all its primal, spiritual healing power – truly penetrates the soul. As a result, there’s joy in the music, as if created from a perfect set of inspirations smashed and grabbed from God’s own record shop.
"Somebody’s Knocking" is the eleventh solo album by ex-SCREAMING TREES frontman, Mark Lanegan. Lanegan says that JOY DIVISION, THE STOOGES, LOVE and, perhaps surprisingly, NEW ORDER have all influenced this album. Despite having always been a fan of electronic music, the sounds are now making their way into his otherwise fags-and-whiskey-drenched gruff rock sound as it’s what he listens to most these days.
Although "Somebody’s Knocking" came together in an eleven-day session in L.A. (Lanegan’s hometown of the last twenty-two years), many of the deepest musical influences on the record are European – be they the aforementioned electronic artists or newer, murkier forms provided by
writing partners Martin Jenkins (who records as Pye Corner Audio) Sietse van Gorkom who co-wrote 7 tracks including first single and today's tune "Stitch It Up", or Rob Marshall – a collaborator on "Gargoyle" and on his own, forthcoming debut album as "Humanist". In each case, Lanegan approached working
with each of the writers from the perspective of a fan.

"Come Undone" is a tune taken from the third collaborative studio album "Hawk" by Scottish indie pop singer Isobel Campbell and American alternative rock musician Mark Lanegan, released on 24 August 2010 on V2 Records. Recorded throughout the United Kingdom and the United States, Hawk features a number of guest musicians, including folk singer Willy Mason, bassist Bill Wells and former SMASHING PUMPKINS guitarist James Iha.

MARK LANEGAN BAND has rolled out his tour machine in support of his latest album, "Phantom Radio". The iconic alt rocker and his merry backing band has a bunch of dates for Europe, see below. According to a press release, this outing serves as LANEGANs first with a full band since mid-2012. Tomorrow he lands in Stockholm for a show at Debaser Strand. A show I sadly will miss as I off to Gothenburg for the first step in the "Swedish Eurovision machine" Melodifestivalen. But if you have nothing to do, go and see it I am almost sure it will be a magical evening.
MARK LANEGAN (born November 25, 1964) is an American alternative rock musician and singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Ellensburg, Washington, Lanegan began his musical career in 1984, forming the grunge band SCREAMING TREES with Gary Lee Conner, Van Conner and Mark Pickerel. During his time in the band, Lanegan also started a low-key solo career and released his first solo studio album, The Winding Sheet, in 1990. Since 1990, he has released a further six studio albums and has received critical recognition and moderate commercial success.
In an interview with The Quietus, Lanegan stated that he used a phone app called FunkBox to write the drum parts on some of the songs.

When this highly explosive band from Umeå will, for the first time since 1998, come together on the same stage it is hard to believe that even the outdoors will be able to contain a show of such magnitude. Refused is one of the few bands to truly have made a difference and had a lasting influence on numerous contemporary music scenes. During the seven years they were active they managed to rewrite the rules of what a punk band could do. Like no band before or after, they managed to combine the explosiveness of a Molotov cocktail, harmonies reminiscent of the calm before the storm, lyrics powerful enough to kick start 90s counter cultures, and a roaring warmth that many have tried, though ultimately failed, to emulate. And, like Jesus, Refused became even more exalted after their death.
If you have somehow, against all odds, never heard Refused, we recommend you begin with the third and latest album – the critically acclaimed masterpiece The Shape of Punk to Come from 1998, a consistent favorite on lists of the most influential albums of all time and a work that has even been called ”the Sergeant Pepper of punk rock.” This is where all the pieces fall into place. Though Refused can lazily be categorized as hardcore/punk, they never allowed themselves to conform to the obvious or expected. They were – and are – ahead of every rigid standard, all the while being nothing short of fantastic. Take the song ”New Noise” for example – sharp riffs, exploding drums and a message that is as well-formed as it is unambiguous: old bandages won’t heal new wounds. Refused live is no exception – each show is a unique explosion. Once you have experienced it, every other concert will pale in comparison.

Refused is a Swedish hardcore punk band originating from Umeå, formed in 1991. In total the band released five EPs and three full-length albums before originally splitting up in 1998. Kerrang! magazine listed the band's 1998 album The Shape of Punk to Come at No. 13 on their 50 Most Influential Albums of All Time list in 2003. Refused is composed of vocalist Dennis Lyxzén, guitarists Jon Brännström and Kristofer Steen, drummer David Sandström and bassist Magnus Flagge. Their lyrics are often of a non-conformist and politically far-left nature.
On January 9, 2012, the band announced their long-awaited reunion (which was also highly contested considering the band's original and explicit declaration to never reunite), confirming shows at Coachella, Rock am Ring, Ruisrock, Roskilde Festival, Groezrock, Way Out West Festival, Sonisphere Festival (Cancelled), Download Festival, Rock for People, Primavera Sound, Hellfest,Fuji Rock Festival, and Pukkelpop
