New week, new album to be presented as Record Of The Week, This time it will be Swedish act, from my current hometown of Stockholm. This weeks album is "Dead End Kings" with Katatonia.
Katatonia is a Swedish metal band formed in Stockholm in 1991 by Jonas Renkse (formerly known as Lord Seth) and Anders Nyström (formerly known as Blakkheim). The early Katatonia albums, along with albums by bands such as My Dying Bride, Anathema and Paradise Lost, are sometimes considered forerunners of the death/doom genre.
"Dead End Kings" is a record that also took the tenth spot on seasonal best list last year, a record that actually has got a lot of playing time lately, like it more and more each lap it goes.
One of Katatonia’s strengths is that the bands music is not playing super technical, which means that listening becomes both more comfortable and easier, a band that is relatively easy to grasp without having struggling with pick out different audio tracks in strange guises. But it's not as if the band is losing the slightest quality, they have a very high class on everything they touch.
"Dead End Kings is about the corridors of our mind from where there is no return. Be a king or queen in your own right in these hallways, even at the dead end. Carry your burden with pride. That’s what we are doing, twenty years and counting. Kings, because we believe in what we are creating, in our own disturbing faith." — Jonas Renkse
