Last Saturday I was at a sold out concert at Debaser Slussen, where Dinosaur Jr. stood for the entertainment, it was reduced to say a slightly sweaty euphoric concert experience.
There is something mythic of J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph. Is there anything you can not accuse Dinosaur Jr., so it's constantly pop up in new guises before each release. And that is where the strength lies. Lofi-kings from Amherst, Massachusetts successfully innovate constantly, without leaving their walked path. It is the path where the youth never ages, the dist always sounds and music sounds best at top volume.
Mascis's drawling vocals and distinct guitar sound, hearkening back to 1960s and '70s classic rock and characterized by high gain, extensive use of feedback and distortion, were highly influential in the alternative rock movement of the 1990s.
The band is pretty cool to work with, that I see only as a plus, once all things were in place, it was discovered that it was missing a "foot pedal" for the kick drum, it must have been left in Gothenburg on the day before? huh'. So some fun was made that "Murph" should work it out and "kick" manually hehe. In any case Peter (The Houseguy of Debaser) solved the problem as he had one at home lying around so everything ended happily.
Support for the evening was the Tennis Bafra, but I missed their performance so unfortunately I can not speak much about it.
Todays tune "Sludgefeast" is taken from the second studio album "You're Living All Over Me". It was released on December 14, 1987. The album title was named after a line uttered by frontman J Mascis while on tour with the band. The album was originally issued when the band were still known as Dinosaur, before a lawsuit forced the name change to Dinosaur Jr. The album was recalled by SST a few months after release, and new copies were printed crediting the band as Dinosaur Jr.
Todays clip is when Dinosaur Jr was performing at Norwegian Wood Festival 12/06/2008.
