Maragda - Hermit

The Spanish psychedelic rock band MARAGDA with prog tendencies have released thier debut self titled album. Big sound that covers most of the musicalspectrum along with some psychotropic moments along with some heavy riffs and great solos that gives you a rough trip to the unknown, that last approx for thirty minutes.

This record tells the story of Maragda, a civilization that took refuge underground after the Great Disaster. Many years have passed now, and the memory of a life on the surface has completely faded. People live under the oppression of a totalitarian government, The Core, when suddenly a strange voice speaks inside their minds. After this call, a group of rebels launches an expedition through The Unknown, willing to discover the secrets of Maragda”

The album was released on 15th October 2021. Artwork by Xavi Forné at Error! Design. Produced, recorded & mixed by Edgar Beltri at La Atlántida Estudio. Mastered by Peter Deimel at Black Box Studio.

MARAGDA is:
Marçal - Bass, Vox, Synth
Guillem - Guitar, Vox, Synth
Xavi - Drums, Vox

Today's tune "Hermit" is taken from the self titled debut, enjoy!

Magmakammer - Bloody Diamond

Almost a year ago did the Riff Merchant Records teamed up with Fuzzy Cracklins Presents to bring you seven tracks of ecstasy-inducing aural madness. They brought together evil Norwegian Fuzz Merchants MAGMAKAMMER with Italian Doom-Monsters SANGUE. A very limited, first pressing black-in-red RMR edition of 150.

All audio remastered for the turntable by Signaturetone Recording. Including new custom artwork for both MAGMAKAMMER and SANGUE in the insert. The split EP was released May 12, 2019. Get it here: www.riffmerchant.com/product/magmakammer-vs-sangue-split

The artwork for the EP which takes a stab at imitating an 80s thriller movie. Like last time, this one is also recorded in a not-at-all-suitable recording space. MAGMAKAMMER possesses a kind of vintage heavy sound that lurks good in the ears.

Today's tune is picked from the EP and my choice ended up with "Bloody Diamond", the title tune by MAGMAKAMMER.

MAGMAKAMMER are:

Axe, Voice and Keys: Ulrik Jacobsen
Low End: Stian Solberg
Cosmic Hammer: Lasse Røed .

Enjoy today's tune!

Cato Salsa Experience - Lovesick

Part of the post-CARDIGANS trend in Scandinavian pop toward a more rocking, garage sound, Oslo, Norway's CATO SALSA EXPERIENCE make a righteously sloppy clatter with a strong hint of psychedelia and just enough pop smarts to make it work. The group formed in 2000 when singer and guitarist Cato Thomassen, bassist Christian Engfelt, and drummer Jon Magne Riise held an informal jam session in Thomassen's kitchen. Adding keyboardist Nina Bjorndalen and taking their nonsensical name from a joke someone had scribbled on the aforementioned kitchen wall, the band started gigging around the local clubs and released a self-titled 10" EP. After THE HIVES made the Scandinavian countries hot again, the American label Emperor Norton signed the CATO SALSA EXPERIENCE, releasing their debut album, "A Good Tip for a Good Time", in the summer of 2002.

Later in the 2000s, the group began recording albums with The Thing. Following the beginning of Cato Thomassen's full-time musical partnership with ex MADRUGADA singer Sivert Höyem in 2009, the band is seemingly now defunct.

Members:

Cato (Salsa) Thomassen-vocals, guitar
Christian Engfelt-bass
Jon Magne Riise-drums
Nina Bjorndalen-keyboards

Today's tune "Lovesick" is taken from the bands second album "Fruit Is Still Fresh" (Garralda Records, 2003), enjoy!

Kvelertak - 1985

The Norwegian sextet KVELERTAK is back with a new tune "1985" taken from the upcoming album "Nattesferd", out 5/13.

KVELERTAK music is rooted d-beat and black metal, with alot of punkish attitude, but with the new tune "1985" it draws more from the classic old school hard rock like THIN LIZZY and AC/DC than DISCHARGE or DARKTHRONE. Sounds interesting, looking forward to hear the new album.

Today's tune "1985", taken from the album, Nattesferd - available for pre-order April 8 on Roadrunner Records.

According to a statement from the band, the song’s title refers to a setting much more ominous than the tone implied in the music:

Think of George Orwell’s 1984 instead of Taylor Swift’s 1989. Its lyrics depict a cold and (not so) distant future where technology and surveillance have erased all forms of individuality and critical thinking. Needless to say, everything was better before — can somebody hit the rewind button already?

This coming April the band will embark on a month long tour together with TORCHE, MUTOID MAN and WILD THRONE.

Radkey - Romance Dawn

RADKEY is an American garage punk band.

The band consists of three home-schooled brothers from St. Joseph, Missouri, all grew up in a shitty little pink house. Bored with nothing to do but listen to their Father's records so they started a band.

RADKEY consist of Isaiah Radke (bass), Solomon Radke (drums), and Dee Radke (lead vocals and guitar), formed their family-titled band in 2010, and played their first show in 2011 when they opened for FISHBONE. With their dad, Matt Radke, as their manager, they have since played with the likes of THE OFFSPRING, LOCAL H, Black Joe Lewis, Titus Andronicus and performed at festivals like SXSW, Riot Fest, Afropunk, the U.K.’s Download Festival and Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

They have released two EPs since their inception: 2012’s Cat & Mouse with Adrian Grenier’s Wreckroom Records and 2013’s Devil Fruit on Little Man Records. The band worked with Ross Orton (ARCTIC MONKEYS, DRENGE) to release their latest single, "Feed My Brain" and the team released their debut LP "Dark Black Makeup" in August 2015

Today's tune "Romance Dawn" is taken from the bands debut album "Dark Black Makeup"

Spidergawd - Tourniquet

New week, new month and that means it's time to present this week's "Record of the Week"

A year after the awesome self titled debut with our neighbours (Norway) SPIDERGAWD, they are back with are brand new album "Spidergawd II", this weeks "Record Of The Week".

The Trondheim-based SPIDERGAWDs music is intressting mix of 70's classic boogie rock, with progressive hooks and jazzy licks, it's a pretty forward and catchy, no fuss or other strange things. The influences are of course MOTORPSYCHO, as part of the band plays there. THE HELLACOPTERS are another one. It's Heavy, Bluesy, Jazzy and delightfully messy that you can only smile when you hear this. Take the first tune "...Is All She Says" with the slow guitar blues intro until it rise to a hard rocking beast. Or todays tune "Tourniquet", a happy, speedy and snotty garage rocker. Or the instrumental psychedelic "Careulean Caribou" with Jazzy and Dizzy saxophone, a real beauty in my ears.

The album was recorded at SoerGarden Studios and the cover Illustration is made by Emile Morel.

SPIDERGAWD are:

Bass – Bent Sæther
Design Concept – Håvard Gjelseth
Drums – Kenneth Kapstad
Guitar, Vocals – Per Borten

Record Summary: This is a record that appeals to you with a wide music taste and like it when bands take a few steps outside the box and are experimental.

Todays tune "Tourniquet" is taken from the new album Spidergawd II.

PS: The album is available as 180g vinyl (CD included). Limited edition 500 copies. Order it from Stickman, here.

Spidergawd upcoming tourdates:

The Hellacopters - (Gotta Get Some Action) Now!

Sunday, time for a classic. "(Gotta Get Some Action) Now!" is the first single by THE HELLACOPTERS, released in 1996 from the album Supershitty to the Max!. In general this single is the third in a group's activity (after "Killing Alan" and "1995"). The music video THE HELLACOPTERS have shot in 1996. It was the first video by the group. It shows the band playing on racing competitions in a karting park, mixing with the fragments of playing at the concert. The members of the group took place in kart racing and drove in go-karts. And on some curves appeared tables with the label "action"

Supershitty to the Max! is the Grammis Award winning debut album and was recorded in just 26 hours during February 1996 at Sunlight Studios in Stockholm.

The album was initially released on 500 units of clear vinyl, followed two weeks later by a CD version. A second vinyl release was available in 1997 with 1500 units in white vinyl, whilst Toys Factory also released the album in Japan with a cover version of the Misfits song "Bullet" as a bonus track.

Todays tune "(Gotta Get Some Action) Now!" is a classic beast, it's furious like a go-kart race. Enjoy!

Satan's Satyrs - Show Me your Skull

Something sinister is looming in the mist - a ghastly three-headed apparition, equal parts riffage & rancour and fuelled by a steady diet of garage rock 7-inches played at 33RPM and horror movies watched at 5AM, the primeval force of Satan’s Satyrs is returned to the earth to lay waste to everything in its path.

Rising high above the overkill of self-styled occult psychedelic proto-rock that lurks in the underground at present. Satan’s Satyrs are blazing a trail through a nightmarish world of battered VHS videos, overheated ampstacks and dog-eared vinyl, and are a band fit to set the pulse of any self-respecting trash connoisseur racing.

They played Roadburn Festival twice in 2013, first as personally selected guests of Electric Wizard at the Electric Acid Orgy, and then a day later performing a set completely dedicated to Blue Cheer.

The Band:

Clayton Burgess - Bass, Vocals
Jarrett Nettnin - Guitar
Stephen Fairfield - Drums

Todays tune "Show Me your Skull" is a crushing caveman-doom. Culled from the latest Satan's Satyrs opus "Die Screaming", released 21 April 2014

Lorelle Meets the Obsolete - What's Holding You?

The Guadalajara duo Lorelle Meets The Obsolete play a real deadly nightshade brand of psychedelia.

The music is done with a Mexican fuzzed out sound that is filled with dreamy garage rock and droned out psychedelica. There are so many influences that I lost count when I tried to go true them. The thing that amaze me is that they manage to use all the musical influences and made it all their own, well done.

Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, is Lorelle, who plays guitar, organ and sings, and her partner The Obsolete, who plays drums and does everything else.

Todays tune "What’s Holding You", taken from the album "Chambers", released 03 March 2014. Just listen to this tune as it's filled up with crunchy distorted guitar and ethereal female vocals.

Roky Erickson - Night of the Vampire

Sunday, time for a classic. This time fits the Roky Erickson perfectly, Roky who yesterday paid a visit to the town for a gig at Debaser Medis.

This time I had a bit odd role in my work, but I had fun anyway.

Amazing Poster from the Scandinavian Tour 2013

Roky Erickson (born Roger Kynard Erickson on July 15, 1947) is an American singer, songwriter, harmonica player and guitarist from Texas. He was a founding member of the 13th Floor Elevators and a pioneer of the psychedelic rock genre.

Like Syd Barrett, a common point of reference, Roky Erickson rose to cult-hero status as much for his music as for his tragic personal life; in light of his legendary bouts with madness and mythic drug abuse, the influence exerted by his garage-bred psychedelia was often lost in the shuffle.

Roky began playing the piano at age five; by age 12, he had also taken up the guitar. The child of an architect and would-be opera singer, Erickson dropped out of high school to become a professional musician. In 1965, he penned his most famous composition, "You're Gonna Miss Me," which he first recorded with a group called the Spades. The song and his high, swooping tenor brought him to the attention of another area band, the psychedelia-influenced 13th Floor Elevators, whose lyricist and jug player Tommy Hall invited Erickson to join; the Elevators soon cut their own version of "You're Gonna Miss Me," and took the single to number 56 on the pop charts in 1966.

The record's success earned the 13th Floor Elevators a deal with International Artists, but as their fame grew, so did their notoriety with local law enforcement officials, who took exception to the group's heavy experimentation with (and public support of) marijuana and LSD. the Elevators became the subject of considerable police harassment, and after Erickson was arrested for the possession of one lone joint in 1969, he pleaded insanity to avoid a prison term.

A three-and-a-half year stint in the state's Hospital for the Criminally Insane followed; Erickson was diagnosed as a schizophrenic, and subjected to extensive electroshock therapy, Thorazine, and other psychoactive treatments. Though released from the hospital in 1973, Erickson was never the same person; he returned to performing with a new band, the Aliens, but his songs -- a series of horror film-influenced records including "Red Temple Prayer (Two-Headed Dog)," "Don't Shake Me Lucifer," and "I Walked with a Zombie" -- found little success. He did retain a devoted cult following, however, but his popularity was fully exploited by managers who took advantage of his instability to draw the singer into a series of unfair publishing contracts that resulted in a steady stream of unauthorized releases from which Erickson earned not a cent. In 1982, he signed a legal affidavit declaring that a Martian had taken residence in his body, and gradually disappeared from music as the decade wore on.

By the '90s, Erickson was struggling to survive on a $200 monthly Social Security stipend; after an arrest on mail theft charges (later dropped), he was re-institutionalized. In 1990, however, artists like R.E.M., ZZ Top, John Wesley Harding, and the Jesus and Mary Chain recorded his songs for the album Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye: A Tribute to Roky Erickson, which brought his work to a wider audience than ever before. In 1993, Erickson performed publicly for the first time in many years at the Austin Music Awards; a few months later, he returned to the studio with guitarists Charlie Sexton and the Butthole Surfers' Paul Leary to record a number of new songs. In 1995, Leary's bandmate King Coffey released Erickson's All That May Do My Rhyme on his Trance Syndicate label; four years later, Trance issued Never Say Goodbye, a collection of rare, private recordings or unreleased Erickson compositions. (Coffey claims Erickson told him he was the first person to ever give him a royalty check for his music.)

In 2001, Sumner Erickson, Roky's brother and a successful classical musician, obtained custody of Roky, who had fallen into poor health. Under Sumner's watch, Roky began receiving proper medical and dental care for the first time in years, as well as more effective treatment for his psychological problems. Sumner also set up a charitable trust to help finance his brother's care, and with the help of sympathetic lawyers, attempted to sort out the legal red tape that prevented Roky from being paid for his music. A fit and relatively lucid Roky Erickson began making occasional public appearances in Austin, TX, and in March 2005, Roky spoke as part of a panel discussion on the 13th Floor Elevators at the South by Southwest Music Conference.

Roky also made a brief musical appearance with a reunited lineup of the Explosives, and a documentary on Erickson, You're Gonna Miss Me, premiered at the affiliated South by Southwest Film Festival.

The Will Sheff-produced True Love Cast Out All Evil, Erickson’s first new studio album in some 14 years, appeared from Anti in 2010.

Mammoth Mammoth - Go

A new week has started and I actually feel more tired than ever, mostly because all the work of the Friends Arena and Rival last week, but have time to catch my breath today before a new week begins in the same arena. Enough of that, will return with a report when it's over. Today we will be presenting this week's album of the week, after more softer rock that have been played during this week, I required something more dirtier and something that was made far far away from Sweden, which this weekly record "Volume III - Hell's Likely" match in quite excellent.

Self acclaimed as, "The most rock n roll, rock n roll band in the History of History", Described by one radio DJ as, ‘… impossible not to admire a band with a sense of humour; that doesn’t take themselves too seriously - yet are hugely serious about the riffage that hits you head on!’ And I can only agree on that.

Australian Mammoth Mammoth plays an heavy-murder-fuzz type of rock that some times kills unicorns, there is no argument that their dark, heavy and menacing tracks are an indelible signature that underlines their musical preferences.

Mammoth Mammoth's "Volume III - Hell's Likely" is their 3:rd album, released 2012, the first self titled EP did already see the light in 2008 and the second was named "Mammoth" and was released 2009.

Overall it's a pretty good album with a neat production, cool riffs that will suit your spring barbecue well.

Members are:

Ben Couzens - Guitars
Mikey Tucker - Vocals
Frank Trobbiani - Drums
Pete Bell - Bass

Todays tune "Go" is the 2:nd tune taken from the album "Volume III - Hell's Likely", enjoy!

Troubled Horse - One Step Closer to My Grave

Troubled Horse is hotly-tipped heavy garage rock , straight out of Örebro Sweden, who’s been banging heads and crushing bones since back in 2003.

After almost 10 years of waiting. Troubled Horse has finally gathered their best tunes from a 10 year period and put em down on a record called "Step Inside"! Available now worldwide!

That Örebro is a town that bought us a second wave of vitally cool hard rock bands such as Witchcraft and Graveyard. Ironically Troubled Horse features three members of the original Witchraft line-up, one of which (bassist Ola Henriksson) is still a current member. Lead guitarist John Hoyles parted ways from Witchcraft a few years ago to concentrate on his other band, Spiders and these frantic rockers of course.

Despite the collective members association with the aforementioned band and origins, Troubled Horse is most definitely an institution in its own right. The raw and melodic song writing skills of singer/guitarist Martin Heppich combines the hard edged spirit of 70’s US bands such as Dust and Pentagram, with an altogether more soulful 60’s MC5 vibe, making them very unique and fresh. Just what the rock and metal scene needs right now!

The band has built a cult following over the past few years and Step Inside is hugely anticipated by fans. Crammed full of instantly memorable hard rocking, footstomping anthems such asShirleen, One Step Closer to the Grave and Fear, Troubled Horse are ready for action and ready to be heard!

The album "Step Inside" is out now on Rise Above Records and Metal Blade Records, a Vinyl version will soon be released.

Todays tune "One Step Closer to My Grave" is taken the album "Step Inside". Order Here: http://www.metalblade.com/troubledhorse
