"The Sun Still Rises" is the second full-length album from California based rock band THE ABSURD.
The album is a leap forward for the band's sound, into dirtier, grimier territory. Recorded once again at Canyon Hut Studios—built into the side of one of Alice Cooper’s old houses.
"The Sun Still Rises" is a high-intensity, diversity and raw, high-octane rock ‘n roll and seasoned with a little some stoner rock. The album is produced by Joshua Martinez, Ben Foerg, & Josh Loney, Engineered & Mixed by Joshua Martinez, and Mastered by Grant Cornish.
"The Sun Still Rises" was released by BENT KNEE RECORDS on November 2, 2020.
THE ABSURD is:
Vox/Guitar/Lyrics - Ben Foerg
Bass - Josh Loney
Drums - Colin Jensen

Dust-dry desert blues, savvy stoner rock and African polyrhythms come together rousingly on the multilingual new SONGHOY BLUES album "Optimisme".
The quartet was formed in 2012 as an act of rebellion in Mali and has since been regarded as one of the most exciting African band projects. On the new album "Optimisme" songs, the band presents themself significantly rockier, harder and punchier than on the previous two albums "Music In Exile" (2015) and "Résistance" (2017). The band consist of Aliou Touré, Garba Touré, Oumar Touré, and Drissa Kone
Today's tune "Worry" is taken from "Optimisme", released 23rd October 2020.
“The harshness of life still weighs on our societies and sinks many young people into a dead end,” says the band in a unified statement. “’Worry’ is a positive energy that Songhoy Blues want to be a ray of hope for humanity. ‘Worry’ is about not stopping fighting because at the very end you will find the light.”
Monday, new week, it's time for "Record Of The Week".
Today we are doing a little flashback on the previous year, 2020. For a heady portion of fuzzy riffs and desert-driven grooves with the second LP "Venus Skytrip" from UK rock merchants PSYCHLONA.
So get ready and enter the ship that will take you on a ride at the "Venus Skytrip", buckle up as there are no escaping from the hum-worthy refrains and hypnotic grooves of the eight tracks of the new album with PSYCHLONA. Any of these fuzz-wreathed tunes could be a single or video. The quality of the album is coherent at a high level, overflowing with heavy riffing that you can feel the sand between your toes, the grooviness makes it really hard to stand still without shaking a piece of your meat bag, where we get soaring melodies and psychedelic drony harmonies and excellent vocals with really captivating hum-worthy refrains already from the brilliant opening tune "Blast Off", to get electrocute on "10000 Volts", groovy "Blow", the tar-thick fuzz "Star", the bass-rumbling "Edge Of The Universe", to the beautiful "Resin" that blows you away in the crescendo that follows by the desert rock stomper "Tijuana" until its time for the nine minutes closing piece "The Owl", where we get a last trippy doom moment in the return ride home of this fantastic album. So get on this skytrip and head for Venus.
Sum: "Venus Skytrip" is a brilliant desert rock album!

Friday, time to get up and dance a little to PATRÓN's 2nd single "Who Do You Dance For".
PATRÓN (pronounced with a Mexican accent and an "r" that rolls under the tongue like a jelly bean soaked in lysergic acid) could be the premonitory soundtrack to Roberto Rodriguez's next feature film if it were set in a post-apocalyptic and degenerative Las Vegas where the only chance of salvation would be Barry White's resurrection.
PATRÓN is a new project fronted by Lo (aka Patrón) frontman of the band LOADING DATA. The self-titled debut album was produced by Alain Johannes (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, ELEVEN, THEM CROOKED VULTURES, Chris Cornell Band) and also happens to be the last album ever recorded in his legendary studio 11AD, in Los Angeles.
Lo had some well-known friends record the album with him: Joey Castillo (DANZIG, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, THE BRONX), Barrett Martin (MAD SEASON, SCREAMING TREES, TUATARA), Nick Oliveri (KYUSS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MONDO GENERATOR), Aurélien Barbolosi (ASTON VILLA) and Monique St Walker (BLACKBIRD DAYS).
PATRÓN is a melting pot of influences, a new entity, a sort of Frankenstein creature, borrowing as much from stoner rock, 50s rock n roll, the Rat Pack as from 80s pop. It’s sexy, it’s groovy, it’s loud and heavy. Heady melodies that will stick to your skin like a thirsty alcoholic tick.
PATRÓN are:
Lo aka Patrón : Lead Vocal / Guitar / Keyboard
Joey Castillo : Drums
Nick Oliveri : Bass
Aurélien Barbolosi : Guitars
Alain Johannes : Bass, Guitar, Keyboard, Vocal
Barrett Martin : Drums
Monique St Walker : Vocals
Aurelia : Vocals
Today's tune "Who Do You Dance For" was made from home during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic. The tune was taken from the self-titled debut album, released May 29, 2020, enjoy!
The Dortmund, Germany rockers DAILY THOMPSON have taken off once again, here with thier fourth longplayer "Oumuamua", released on August 21st via Noisolution.
Influences from grunge, garage and indie rock work together for a completely overdriven, extremely fuzzy Bigmuff. Their sound is rich in noise, indie-blues and stoner-rock, with Daily Thompson's usual fuzz, wah-wah and distortion attacks, they create their individual sound of Fuzz-Desert-rock.
The trio has spent the last four years on the road. DAILY THOMPSON have already proven themselves as a certificated rock sensation during countless shows, including festivals such as the German TV WDR Rockpalast Crossroads Festival, Reeperbahn Festival, Orange Blossom Special Festival or Krach Am Bach. Stages were shared with bands like DINOSAUR JR., Liam Gallagher, MAXIMO PARK, PORTUGAL THE MAN, EARTHLESS, MUSTASCH, NEBULA, TRUCKFIGHTERS, KADAVAR and many more. The 2021 Festivals like Freak Valley Festival, Stoned From The Underground and Rock Im Wald are confirmed already!
Although the band is constantly on tour, they simultaneously release singles and albums like the self-titled debut album in 2014. One year later, they put out the split 7"-vinyl ‘Spit Out The Crap’ together with the US band Mos Generator and in 2016 the band released their second album ‘Boring Nation’. Plus, they celebrated the release of the split 7"-vinyl ‘River Haze’ at Reeperbahn Festival in 2017. Their album ‘Thirsty’ was signed by MIG Music and released in November 2018. In January 2020 the band released a split 7” via the italian Label Ammonia Records with one woman show Elli De Mon, the italian respond to Seasick Steve. And in 2020 the band did release their fourth longplayer "Oumuamua".
Vocals and Guitar: Danny Zaremba,
Drums: Stefan Mengel,
Bass: Mercedes
Today's tune "Sad Frank" is taken from the album "Oumuamua", enjoy!
The searing new album from Sweden's desert rock progenitors opens up this week. Before MONOLORD, TRUCKFIGHTERS, GREENLEAF or GRAVEYARD, one band blasted open the doors to announce Sweden's riff-heavy desert rock arrival.
Now, at long last, LOWRIDER is back to deliver on their much-deserved mythic status. And gives us this week's "Record Of The Week" with "Refractions"(released on February 21st, 2020 via Blues Funeral Recordings).
Finally, LOWRIDER has returned from a 20 yrs hiatus, "Refractions" is more than welcome, a brand spanking album from the Swedish stoner rockers and a superb follow up to the debut album "Ode To Io", that was released back in 2000.
"Refractions" is a six tune album with a playtime of 41 minutes of pure enjoyable low gear rock that please any rocker that like when the "muff‘s" cranked to the max. The album opens up with the monstrous "Red River", where the clocks stop and the calendar goes bananas and take you back in time to the mid-'90s where the desert rock was reaching the peak. With a big grin I enjoy and feel how the riff and melody plow into the soul, the goose skin slowly rises and reaches unseen sky in "Ode To Ganymede", the guitars give me shivers and I lose my self into the psychedelic part halfway true the tune. Holy freaking Moses the Hammond really knocks me off. The heaviness along with a cleaver guitar riffing is just pure craftsmanship of the highest level. "Sernanders Krog" (It's a vegetarian restaurant in the band's hometown Uppsala) follows in the same path, but with a jazzier approach and an amazing groove. "Ol’ Mule Pepe" is a groovy rocker with infectious Montone riffing that makes it really hard to sit still. "Sun Devil/M87" is a progressive instrumental doom piece, slow and heavy. "Pipe Rider" is a real beauty, that closes up this masterpiece in the best possible way, it opens up with a glorious guitar playing until the rest of the band joins in. The vocals are just superb. Eleven minutes of happiness. I guess it has nothing to do with this, but somehow I saw Clint Eastwood playing together with Mark Knopfler, hey it's the music that fingers on your unconsciousness. "Refractions" is an amazing album that explodes with all the churning fuzz and expansive riff-heaviness for which the band is beloved, shot through with re-energized purpose and maturity. The grooves swing, the bottom end rumbles, and the melodies growl and soar, delivering at last on LOWRIDERs longing-to-be-fulfilled promise.
The band consists of:
Bassist/vocalist Peder Bergstrand,
Lead guitarist/vocalist Ola Hellquist,
Guitarist Niclas Stålfors, and
Drummer Andreas Eriksson
The Postwax subscription version.
The only downside is the fade-out in "Sernanders Krog", I would love to hear it in the full. I really don't like fade-outs. LOWRIDER has released an album that would reach the highest points if I ever would hand them out. "Refractions" is an instant classic and will end high when 2020 is going to be summarized, this is far the best record so far this year.
Sum: "Refractions" is here to remind you what real desert/stoner rock is. Highly recommended.
Today's tune "Red River" is taken from "Refractions", enjoy!
Since the release of their debut album, "Twilight in the Desert", in 2007, Roma rockers BLACK RAINBOWS have become one of the most essential acts in Europe’s heavy underground. As the spearhead of an entire movement of Italian bands, They’ve issued six full-lengths to-date where the latest "Pandaemonium" came out 2018 with founding guitarist/vocalist Gabriele Fiori and bassist Giuseppe Guglielmino welcoming new drummer Fillippo Ragazzoni to the fold for the first time.
Across albums like 2010’s "Carmina Diablo" (recently reissued), 2011’s "Supermotherfuzzalicious!!", 2012's "Twilight In The Desert", 2014's "Holy Moon", 2015’s "Hawkdope", 2016’s "Stellar Prophecy", BLACK RAINBOWS sound has oozed between classic ‘90s-style stoner fuzz and deep-cosmos psychedelia, drawing on the best of hard-driving space rock to conjure a vibe totally tripped-out and all its own. By bringing Ragazzoni on board, the riffs have gotten tighter and are fuzzed as ever, and two years after their last outing, BLACK RAINBOWS are refreshed and with well-earned veteran status resulting from countless tours, festival appearances, and their track record of absolutely unstoppable energy.
Today's tune "High To Hell" is taken from "Pandaemonium". The album was recorded at Forward Studios, one of Italy's finest recording spaces. Produced by Gabriele Fiori and engineered by Fabio Sforza. "Pandaemonium" was released on April 2018. Enjoy!
Today it the day where we Scandinavians celebrate a thing called "Midsummer", herring and potatoes with snaps is the main thing on the menu, silly dance around a green pole of flowers and have fun about it. Outside games until your body hurts. Sauna and a swim usually end the evening. Some drink until they can't stand any longer, but most peeps just enjoy the first day of the Industrial vacation that usually starts for most Swedes. I do still have a few weeks more before I take some time off.
So for today, we play a true summer piece to celebrate this day.
"Feel Good Hit of the Summer" is a song by American rock band QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and written by band members Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri. It is the opening track of their second album, "Rated R", and the second single to be released from it. Upon the album's release, "Feel Good Hit of the Summer" had particular attention drawn to it due to the song's focus on drugs. Despite this, critical reception to the song was generally positive, with various critics considering it a highlight of the album.
Josh Homme claimed the song was conceived after his three-day Millennium party. The song's lyrics are merely a list of drugs repeated throughout. The drugs listed in the verses are nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol, with cocaine mentioned throughout the chorus. Homme has hinted that the song is a direct reference to the band's stoner rock label:
"Feel Good Hit of the Summer" might be like a knife in the neck of stoner rock. It's hard to tell, and I think that's the good part about it. Look, you're always going to get labeled with something. Stoner rock is kind of a dumbing-down label, and that's why I don't gravitate toward it.
On multiple occasions, Homme has also referred to the song as a "social experiment" in regards to how the public would approach it. He has also stated that despite the heavy drugs content in the track, the band's stance was left ambiguous, stating that "there's no endorsement" and that "doesn't say yes or no". Chris Goss, who co-produced "Rated R" with Homme under the pseudonym The 5:15ers, later stated that the track was intended to be a "joke" and a "funny song". He also commented that it was originally recorded as a chant at the end of the album, but its effectiveness resulted in its expansion into a full song and usage as the opener.
Though it was Josh Homme who provided lead vocals, there are several other vocalists present on the track. JUDAS PRIEST lead singer Rob Halford was in a neighboring studio when this song was first recorded and ended up singing backing vocals at the band's request, calling the lyrics a "rock and roll cocktail". Halford's performance was only used in the final chorus of the track, though this was enough to have him credited alongside Nick Oliveri, Wendy Ray Moan and Nick Eldorado as providing backing vocals. The song features again on "Rated R" as a reprise after the eighth track "In the Fade".
Enjoy today's tune and have a wonderful Midsummer.
VALLEY OF THE SUN is a four-piece desert-rock band out of Cincinnati, Ohio, formed in 2010, "Old Gods" is their third release and catches our ears today. VALLEY OF THE SUN has frequently been here on Tune Of The Day, a rock band that I do really like, it's like a medium rare steak, taste good and sounds excellent.
"Old Gods" offers a broad pallet of righteous riffs and heavy sound mixed with sensitive and soulful tones. Already from the first opening title track, the sensitive and layback guitar play, where the fingers almost caress the strings before the drums roll in, the heavy guitar and the almost grungy vocals give the tune a bit of energy. "All We Are" is another grunge piece, great guitar sling, hefty drumming, and a catchy chorus. Acoustic guitar opens up the lovely mellow instrumental piece "Gaia Creates". Righteous riff kicks on the energic and catchy tune "Dim Visions". Then it's time for a little break on the album with an instrumental ritualistic drum tune "Shiva Destroys" that follows up with furious force in the short flash of "Fire Walker". "Into The Abyss" is a slower, light psychedelic piece that flows like an eagle over the desert. "Faith Is For Suckers" follows the grunge template. "Buddha Transcends" is another short break on the album, atmospheric guitars that you can lose your mind awhile before the guitars speed up a bit in the heavy and catchy piece "Means The Same". The album closes up with "Dreams Of Sand", soft start that burst up for a short while, great riffing, fat bassline along with excellent and superb vocals. The only bad thing is the fade out in the end. The production is great along with all the distorted sounds and I will enjoy this for a great amount of time. Well done lads.
Sum: "Old Gods" is an exciting release.

Monday, a new week is here again, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".
The new boys from London, UK, THE LUNAR EFFECT released their debut full-length album "Calm Before The Calm" on the 25th January 2019.
"Calm Before The Calm" is a modern take on soulful rock music firmly rooted in the seventies, bands like DEEP PURPLE, LED ZEPPELIN, and BLACK SABBATH comes in mind.
THE LUNAR EFFECT consists of the Jefford Brothers, Jon (guitar) & Dan (Drums) together with the brilliant bassman Brett Halsey and the excellent vocalist Josh Gosling.
The album has eight glorious tunes that spin over thirty-five heavy soulful minutes. And somehow THE LUNAR EFFECT sounds like they have been around for ages in this outfit, the sound, the rhythm section, tight and well-played melodies, tasty and deep guitars and a cruel vocal delivery make this sound like some kind of spell has been thrown over these guys. It's magic!. The album opens up with the powerful "Woman", deep and soulful blues piece that gives you as a listener goosebumps. "Stare At The Sun" is an uptempo steam rocker with a groove-laden beat to shakes up things. The slow and wonderful bassline signed Brett Halsey, that opens up "Call It In" before the distorted guitars slide in and give the tune some spice, the main thing is the neat bassline that fondles with the vocals, the tune is a beauty by itself. In the tune "Weaver" the vocalist Josh Gosling summons Jim Morrison with his hypnotic vocals and gives the tune a THE DOORS feeling, the same thing goes with the tune "Filterdog" where the 60's psychedelic gently moves through the air. The album closer and the title track "Calm Before The Calm" is a breathless and moody blues piece that closes this off with big star in my book. This is an excellent album debut that offers great psych-flavored heavy rock that is always engaging and captivating that I highly recommend.
The vinyl is pressed on heavy high-performance vinyl by Pallas Group in Germany and released by Kozmik Artifacts.
Sum: Calm Before The Calm is an incredibly solid debut album with a brilliant blend of musical genres.
The term lunar effect refers to real or imaginary correlations between specific stages of the roughly 29.5-day lunar cycle and behavior and physiological changes in living beings on Earth, including humans. In some cases the purported effect may depend on external cues, such as the amount of moonlight. In other cases, such as the approximately monthly cycle of menstruation in humans (but not other mammals), the coincidence in timing reflects no known lunar influence.
Today's tune is the title tune "Calm Before The Calm", enjoy!
KARMA TO BURN, sometimes known as K2B, is a instrumental desert rock/stoner rock band from Morgantown, West Virginia comprising guitarist William Mecum, bassist Eric Clutter, and drummer Evan Devine. The band are noted for their uncompromising, mostly instrumental sound.
Their name comes from a sleevenote on Bob Dylan's 1976 album Desire which reads "I have a brother or two and a whole lot of karma to burn..."
Today's tune "Fifty-Seven" is taken from the sixth studio album "Arch Stanton". It is their third studio release since reforming from their 7-year hiatus in 2009. It was released on August 18, 2014, via FABA/Deepdive Records. Unlike their previous release V, this album returns to their exclusively instrumental roots, although the final track features dialogue snippets from the classic spaghetti western The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
GREENBEARD is a desert rock trio from Austin, TX created in 2014. GREENBEARDs sound is a sonic gathering of early British heavy metal, psychedelia, desert guitar riffs, & stoner rock. Most recently, GREENBEARD released their latest album, "Lödarödböl". This record was produced, mixed, and engineered in the fall of 2016 with Matt Bayles at Red Room Recording in Seattle, Washington.

Today's tune "Sativa Wizardia" is taken from the debut album "Stoned at the Throne", enjoy!
Monday, new week and it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week"
"Villains", the seventh full-length studio release for the rock band led by Josh Homme and his QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE.
This time they have worked with the producer Mark Ronson that have fine-tuned the tracks and the record sounds really good.
"Villains" feels as enthralling as it is complex, with it's typical QOTSA craziness, farout and trippy and in the same time very melodic and riffy, a little looser and more uptempo than their last release ...Like Clockwork and "more carefree".
The opening tune "Feet Don’t Fail Me" starts with an roman electric atmosphere for 90 seconds before it rumbles on with monoton bobbing guitar strut and Josh Homme on a few gallons of Red Bull. Lead single "The Way You Used To Do" is a real melodic piece with a clear bassline, well signed lines by Josh, could be a comming hit single, well I will dig it if it gets a spin on the radio or the pub. All the tunes on "Villains" is in a very good quality, it's like a cuttlefish, spreads all over, were influences fingers on classic artists like LED ZEPPELIN in crunchy "Domesticated Animals", a really cool tune that flows a bit out from the normal spectra with it's dirty riffing to the half pace "Fortress" where the love is gracious and in "Head Like A Hunted House" the tempo get's higher where the old school Rock 'n Roll get a punkish feeling, a odd but cool garage rock tune. In "Un-Reborn Again" flirts with both T-REX and DAVID BOWIE, fuzzy and wonderfully farout, easy-breezy disco beats and chilly synths. "Hideaway" is an electronic softish piece where the electronica works hand in hand with the distorted guitar and Josh sings beautifully. Tempo and the craziness goes up in "The Evil Has Landed" and the album closes with "Villains Of Circumstance", almost the same outgoing as the opening tune but this is more laidback, bigger and more gorgeous music vise.
Sum: "Villains" is a danceable glossy swagger!
The cover art for Villains was designed by graphic artist Boneface, who designed the artwork for QUEENS OF THE STONE AGEs previous album, ...Like Clockwork.
Today's tune "The Way You Used to Do" is the first single from the QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE album "Villains". The single was released on June 15, 2017. Enjoy!
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE perform "The Way You Used to Do" at Reading + Leeds 2017.

Today's tune “Trainwrecker” is a steel-jawed and fully-cocked musical madness. The tune comes from Scott Biram’s most recent released called "The Bad Testament" via the devil-may-care renegade label Bloodshot Records bred on the dirty streets of Chicago.
So put your big boy pants on and give it an spin, or otherwise duck and cover because the shit is about to get real.
Monday, New Week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"
"High Strangeness" is the third full-length album by the Texas, Dallas trio MOTHERSHIP. The album was released March 17th.
"High Strangeness" is a solid release from the guys where they deliver a record with an seasoned sound, great melodies, heavy riffing and very good vocals. Atmospheric stoner rock is mixed up with dusty sand boogie psychedelia and melodic riffing like the opening tune and the title track. "Ride The Sun" have a more classic upbeat sounding, excellent guitar tripping and great vocals. "Midnight Express" is a more heavier piece with driven fuzzy riffs, sounds almost like MASTODON meets KISS. "Crown Of Lies" is a old school rocker with galloping riffs (hello HEART) and a guitar driven midpart that is very melodic. "Helter Skelter" reminds of old HAWKWIND, an 70's hard rocker. "Eternal Trip" is a peaceful instrumental tune, the album ballad that hovering over the other tunes and stands out. "Wise Man", dirty riffs with a light BLACK SABBATH and ALLMAN BROTHERS touch but in more old school metal way. The album ends with the upbeat fuzzed out rocker "Speed Dealer" that breads KYUSS, a great ending tune.
A beautiful Vinyl version
Sum: "High Strangeness" is a solid album that anyone that like fresh 70's style of rock should not miss this!
Today's tune "Wise Man" taken from "High Strangeness", enjoy!

The Swedish Stoner Rockers TRUCKFIGHTERS latest album "V", as in the Roman numeral 5, which is appropriate considering this is their fifth album in the Swedish bands 15 years as a band.
The album is the most grown up desert stoner rock album the band have created so far. Well farmed tunes with a lot of space where the rhythms gets well along with the heavy distorted riffs by Niklas Kallgren (Dango), blasting drum beats by Danial Israelsson (El Danno), hard thundering bass tones and partly soft and very well singing by the bass guitarist Oskar Cedermalm, (Ozo). It's pretty clearly that the band is expanding their reach and trying new things on "V". An album that needs many spins before it settles down in the mind.
The album "V" kicks of with "Calm Before the Storm" (today's tune), a softish, emotional tune where feelings about a certain (see below) takes place, anger, concern, the why, love and hate are the topics in the writing, all is mixed into one single tune. The album continuous with "Hackshaw", a thick bass picking and sludgy drums kicks it on before the melodic stoner riffs entry the song. A heavy piece that have the classic TRUCKFIGHTERS logo on, excellent tune. "The 1" continuous where the last ended with a blasting start before it slows down a bit to give space to Ozo's singing and when he is done it accelerate again. "Gehenna" have a great groovy drive, melodic piece in it self. The fuzzyified moments of the album is partly splattered all around but are mostly showed in tune "Fiend". The tune "The Construct" is like an tripped out extended jam session with chaotic rhythms. The album closes up with a live version of "Manhattan Project"
Sum: A desert stoner rock album that you should check up!
Today's tune "Calm Before The Storm" is taken from the Album "V", This video is based on a real event and is made in memory of Lisa Holm.
Please donate to the Lisa Holm memory foundation: Lisa Holm minnesfond BG 5002-0197. Words from the band:
"In the summer of 2015 Sweden was shaken by the brutal murder of 17-year-old Lisa Holm. We like many others followed the news and events, and affected strongly by Lisa's fate, especially as we ourselves are parents.
We write music about things that happen in society and that concerns us, and therefore they wrote "Calm Before the Storm". The music video has now caught the attention of social media and in the media and we understand that many have been badly affected by it. Therefore, we want to emphasize that our intention was never to hurt anyone, but to bring out how wrong it is that such things happen in our society. We did not write the song in any other way, or with any other goal than any of the songs we have written over fifteen years as a band".
Furthermore, we have decided to donate all of our proceeds for this single "Calm Before The Storm" to the memorial fund of Lisa Holm.
PICAPORTERS, a Buenos Aires-based desert rockband. A laid back atmosphere with heavy riffs is the shortest explanation of the band that sounds bigger than they are. The trio consists of Juan Pablo Herrera (bass), Lucas Barrué (guitar) and Juan Pablo Vázquez (drums).
They released the debut full-length, "Elefantes" in 2013 (Download for free at the bands bandcamp) and the second and latest record "El Horror Oculto" in 2016 where we find today's tune "War Is Over", enjoy!
Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"
"Ancient Astronauts" with HOLY MOUNTAIN is the follow up album to the first anthropomorphous debut album "Earth Measures".
HOLY MOUNTAIN are a psychedelic rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, comprising Andy McGlone (guitar and vocals), Pete Flett (drums) and Allan Stewart (Idlewild/DeSalvo). The band are currently signed to Chemikal Underground Records.
This Scottish three-piece emerged on the scene in 2012 with a penchant for old-school heavy metal and a desire to tear up any stage they were on with their brand of hard-hitting riffs and explosive cosmic atmospherics, making them a premier group in the stoner/desert rock genre.
The band entered Chem 19 recording studio in April 2013 and completed recording of their second album "Ancient Astronauts" with producer Paul Savage. The album also features Graeme Smillie (Emma Pollock, Unwinding Hours) on organ and keys. The album was mixed by Savage in December. The band released a 7" single, "Luftwizard" from the album, with a cover of BLACK SABBATHs "War Pigs" as the B-Side.
The album was released in the UK on 7 April 2014.
"Ancient Astronauts" they continues the path that they made on "Earth Measures" but with more spaced out heaviness and summoning vocals, a real badass album in other words.
The album contains some real dark filthy titanic riffs and slamming drumming that suits perfect for the Vinyl.
Tunes like the opener "LV-42666", "Gift Giver" and "Tokyo" are high speed jamming and unpredictable tempo-shifting with hard and filthy riffs with a touch of both Blues and classic Garage Rock where tunes like "Star Kings" and "100 Years A Day" are more Garage Rockers with Stoner base. "Luftwizard" is a far out Blues psychedelic rocker with some LED ZEPPELIN beats that i just love. The Bass player are in focus on the title track "Ancient Astronauts" where his shattering playing is clear, monoton and classic. The guitar licks are cleaver and well used over the hole thread. The album ends with "Hollow Hill" a real classic rock smoker with it's earthshaking retro rock.
Sum:
"Ancient Astronauts" is a real rock smoker !
Today's tune "100 Years A Day" is taken from their latest album "Ancient Astronauts". The Video is made by Michael Sherrington of Forest of Black.
