Twin Temple - Let's Have A Satanic Orgy!

The Satanic Doo-Wop’ duo TWIN TEMPLE have shared the new single "Let’s Have A Satanic Orgy". Featuring lyrics such as “Come to the Sabbath, call down the demons from Hell, and just like that… you’re under my spell” they just finished a tour supporting the Swedish GHOST and the Danish co-headliners VOLBEAT. But more dates are in the pipeline, see them below.

Everybody knows that the Devil has all the best tunes. From Robert Johnson selling his soul at the crossroads to the blood-soaked black metal of Norway, Satan has long loomed large over the music world, striking fear into the hearts of the sanctimonious. But nothing that has gone before will prepare you for the arrival of Twin Temple: Los Angeles’ one and only purveyors of Satanic Doo-Wop. Devout Satanists and meticulous preservers of rock’n’roll’s ancient, timeless spirit, this black-clad and effortlessly stylish duo have created a sound that blends their Satanic ideology with the irresistible sass and melody of classic ‘50s and ‘60s rock ‘n’roll. The result is Twin Temple (Bring You Their Signature Sound…Satanic Doo-Wop), a debut album that not only serves to salute the Dark One, but also delivers some of the catchiest and coolest music to emerge from any genre in years.

“It’s really just a reflection of everything we love,” explains vocalist Alexandra James. “We’ve always loved rock ‘n’ roll, especially from the golden era of American music, but we’re also Satanists and study the Occult. We both practice magick. It was just a crazy idea– ‘Why can’t you love Roy Orbison and hail Satan at the same time?’ Satanism has been relegated to the metal scene for so long, but we are Satanists and listen to The Platters and Buddy Holly, you know? We love metal too, but this is a reflection of who we are as people. This record was something we wanted to create for ourselves… we were happy to see that it resonated with other people out there, too.”

Today's tune "Let’s Have A Satanic Orgy

EELS - Good Night On Earth

EELS have released a new single and video "Good Night On Earth" taken from the Mark ‘E’ Oliver Everett-led band’s upcoming 14th studio album "Extreme Witchcraft", which is set for release on January 28, 2022 via PIAS and the band’s own E Works Records.

The video is Directed by Steven Mertens, the primarily animated video for "Good Night On Earth" builds up to “an intergalactic clash of the titans”. E stars in the clip as a newscaster who appears on TV as disaster strikes when an evil giant space lobster lands on Earth, forcing the musician to do battle with the creature.

“Just another newscaster-Godzilla-fighting-a-lobster-from-space video,” E said of the clip for the song, which you can watch below.

Eels (often typeset as eels or EELS) is an American rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1991 by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Oliver Everett, known by the stage name E. Band members have changed over the years, both in the studio and on stage, making Everett the only official member for most of the band's work. Eels' music is often filled with themes of family, death, and unrequited love. Since 1996, Eels has released thirteen studio albums, seven of which charted in the Billboard 200

The Bronx - Breaking News

LA-based rockers THE BRONX return for their sixth studio album "Bronx VI" which was released worldwide on Cooking Vinyl August 27th.

“The feelings I got when writing for this sixth record is the same type of feeling I got writing “Heart Attack American”. It all comes from the same place and it’s all still 100% genuine and real. Believe me – I’m still feeling the raw emotion that I felt when this band first started. That’s just who I am, that’s who we are as people. You can’t fake stuff like that when it comes to music or art. You have to stay connected. You’ve just got to be real” - Matt Caughthran, vocalist.

"Bronx VI" was produced by Joe Baressi (MELVINS, TOOL, BAD RELEGION).

The band have released a live video for their song "Breaking News". The live version was recorded by Tim Armstrong of RANCID. The song is off their album "Bronx VI". THE BRONX will be touring Europe and the UK in 2022 and will be touring the UK with EVERY TIME I DIE in winter 2022.

"The Sun Still Rises" is the second full-length album from California based rock band THE ABSURD.

The album is produced by Joshua Martinez, Ben Foerg, & Josh Loney, Engineered & Mixed by Joshua Martinez, and Mastered by Grant Cornish. "The Sun Still Rises" was released by BENT KNEE RECORDS on November 2, 2020.

Meatbodies - Reach For The Sunn

Within the fertile West Coast rock scene of the 2010s, MEATBODIES’ Chad Ubovich was a perennial candidate for MVP. Over the course of the decade, the Los Angeles native could be seen peeling off guitar solos in Mikal Cronin’s backing band, supplying the Sabbath-sized low end for Ty Segall and Charlie Moothart as the bassist for Fuzz, and, of course, fronting his own MEATBODIES. That recently dormant noise-damaged freak-rock outfit now returns with "333", a corrosive stew of guitar scuzz, raw acoustic rave-ups, and primitive electronics. That acidic mix didn’t come from nowhere. Because the downside to maintaining such a prolific work rate is that the threat of burnout becomes a looming occupational hazard, and after touring behind MEATBODIES’ second album, 2017’s "Alice", Ubovich finally hit his breaking point.

“I’d been touring for eight years straight with all these bands, and just couldn't do it anymore,” he says. “There was also a feeling in the air that everything was changing, politically. Things just didn't feel right, and I went down a dark path.”

Fortunately, Ubovich was able to pull himself back from the brink and, upon getting sober, began writing and recording at a furious pace. By mid to late 2019, MEATBODIES—Ubovich and drummer Dylan Fujioka—had a new album in the can, ready to be mixed. But when COVID hit, the band, like so many other artists, put their release on hold as they rode out the pandemic’s first wave. During that idle time, Ubovich discovered a cache of demos that he and Fujioka had recorded in a bedroom back in the summer of 2018, and he really liked what he heard. In contrast to MEATBODIES’ typical full-band attack, it was deliriously disordered. “It sounded gross, like a scary Magical Mystery Tour,” he recalls proudly. After subjecting them to some mixing-board freakery, Ubovich fast-tracked the songs into becoming MEATBODIES’ third release, "333".

While "333" charts Ubovich’s journey from drug-induced darkness to clear-eyed sobriety, it also reflects how the world he re-entered was still pretty messed up—if not more so. That psychic tug-of-war plays out on the opening “Reach For The Sunn” whose distorted slow-motion creep leads to a chorus both celebratory and dispiriting: “Reach for the stars/reach for the sun/reach for the trigger/reach for the gun.” In writing these songs, Ubovich realized that he wasn’t so much singing about his own path, but something much greater than himself. "These lyrics are dark, but I think these are things that people everywhere are feeling and going through” he says. “Here in America, we’re watching the fall of U.S. capitalism, and "333" is a cartoonish representation of that decline.”

Today's tune "Reach For The Sunn" is taken from an album that wasn’t supposed to exist, "333" is the ultimate testament to MEATBODIES’ renewed vitality. "333" was released September 3, 2021.

The Record Company - Ball And Chain

Thursday, time for a cover.

"Ball And Chain" (also "Ball 'n' Chain" or "Ball & Chain") is a blues song written and recorded by American blues artist Big Mama Thornton. Although her recording did not appear on the record charts, the song has become one of Thornton's best-known, largely due to performances and recordings by Janis Joplin.

Big Mama Thornton's "Ball and Chain" is included on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame list of the "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll".

Grammy-nominated Los Angeles-based rock band THE RECORD COMPANY are set to return with Side Project, an EP featuring covers of some of their favorite, most influential artists. Produced by bassist Alex Stiff, the record is set for release May 19 via Concord Records; listen to the band's cover of the Big Mama Thornton classic "Ball And Chain", below.

"The pandemic forced us to try an entirely different approach to our process, with everyone working from home," the band explains. "With 'Ball And Chain,' we used some really non-traditional home methods and ended up finding some new sounds we may not have found otherwise."

"Side Project is what happens when three guys who have always been in bands finish their record, are locked away from each other, and are told they need to make more 'content,'" they add. "So, we took songs we love, fed them up, cut them up and twisted them around, until we loved it and felt like a band again."

Patrón - Who Do You Dance For

Friday, time to get up and dance a little to PATRÓN's 2nd single "Who Do You Dance For".

PATRÓN (pronounced with a Mexican accent and an "r" that rolls under the tongue like a jelly bean soaked in lysergic acid) could be the premonitory soundtrack to Roberto Rodriguez's next feature film if it were set in a post-apocalyptic and degenerative Las Vegas where the only chance of salvation would be Barry White's resurrection.

PATRÓN is a new project fronted by Lo (aka Patrón) frontman of the band LOADING DATA. The self-titled debut album was produced by Alain Johannes (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, ELEVEN, THEM CROOKED VULTURES, Chris Cornell Band) and also happens to be the last album ever recorded in his legendary studio 11AD, in Los Angeles.

Lo had some well-known friends record the album with him: Joey Castillo (DANZIG, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, THE BRONX), Barrett Martin (MAD SEASON, SCREAMING TREES, TUATARA), Nick Oliveri (KYUSS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MONDO GENERATOR), Aurélien Barbolosi (ASTON VILLA) and Monique St Walker (BLACKBIRD DAYS).

PATRÓN is a melting pot of influences, a new entity, a sort of Frankenstein creature, borrowing as much from stoner rock, 50s rock n roll, the Rat Pack as from 80s pop. It’s sexy, it’s groovy, it’s loud and heavy. Heady melodies that will stick to your skin like a thirsty alcoholic tick.

PATRÓN are:
Lo aka Patrón : Lead Vocal / Guitar / Keyboard
Joey Castillo : Drums
Nick Oliveri : Bass
Aurélien Barbolosi : Guitars
Alain Johannes : Bass, Guitar, Keyboard, Vocal
Barrett Martin : Drums
Monique St Walker : Vocals
Aurelia : Vocals

Today's tune "Who Do You Dance For" was made from home during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic. The tune was taken from the self-titled debut album, released May 29, 2020, enjoy!

Viza • Loyal Tea

Drink your "Loyal Tea" and spit it up on the ground.

That's a snipped from the latest single by the LA gypsy folkish rock band VIZA (VI·ZA).
A band that continues to captivate the global music scene with an erratically amusing blend of energized international rock. Unique in its musical arsenal is the inclusion of oud and percussion blended with more traditional rock elements such as guitar, bass, and drums. This fascinating fusion, combined with dramatic and powerful live performances have garnered Viza significant success all over the world.

VI·ZA are:
K'noup - Vocals, Guitar
Shant Bismejian - Guitar
Andrew Kzirian - Oud, Saz, Vocals
Jivan Gasparyan Jr. - Duduk
Alex Khatcherian - Bass
Chris Daniel - Drums, Percussion, Vocals

The tune "Loyal Tea" is a song that brings back classic tones of the band while guest-starring former bandmates. Danny Shamoun, who was a vital part of the songwriting in the album "Maktub" is at the spotlight once again in "Loyal Tea", lending his percussive skills on all things Arabic.

As the frontman K’noup comments:

“I remember when I first wrote "Loyal Tea" it was honestly not with the intention of it becoming a VIZA song because the chords behind it had a different mode, but I had invited Danny to record on it, and the minute he did the whole complexion of the song turned its face to VIZA and I certainly couldn’t question it”.

The song features beautifully constructed oud melodies by theoudplayer as well catchy duduk licks by Jivan all the while Shant Bismejian rhythmically carries the belly of the song with his glistening guitars. “I recorded the guitars on my couch with 2 cats staring at me”. says Shant gleefully.

“Lyrically the song itself is an obvious pun that reflects the harshness and lack of loyalty within the music business that I’ve unfortunately felt first hand. One minute you’re the cool cat in town the next minute you’re the forgotten buffalo”. says K’noup.

VIZA continues to write and record throughout the new year, look out for more to come.

Keep an eye out for the band on Facebook (www.facebook.com/vizamusic) and Instagram (@vizamusic).

Enjoy today's tune!

Pattern-Seeking Animals - No Burden Left To Carry

PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS is a progressive/art-rock band based in Los Angeles group featuring the talents of the current & former SPOCK'S BEARD members Ted Leonard, Jimmy Keegan & Dave Meros as well as long-time contributing songwriter-producer John Boegehold. The band recently signed to InsideOut Music for the release of their self-titled debut album on July 5th, 2019.

With the band obviously being closely associated with SPOCK'S BEARD, John was conscious of exploring different avenues with PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS, whether it was song structures, vocal arrangements, synth sounds or emotional textures.

“Pattern-Seeking Animals was a clean slate so I found myself drawing on a few different musical influences and using some contemporary production ideas and sounds that I probably wouldn’t use with SB for various reasons.”

As the project came together it quickly became apparent that they would want to take this material out live: “Originally it was intended to be a recording project but as it was coming together we started talking seriously about doing it as a live band. Because of the complexity of a lot of the material, it’ll require an additional musician or two to pull it off live. The plan is to tour as much as possible and to come out with a new album at least once a year. In fact, work on the second album is already well under way.”

Today's tune "No Burden Left To Carry" taken from the album PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS self-titled album, released July 5th, 2019.

Tool - Fear Inoculum

Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

After thirteen years of silence, the expectations for TOOLs upcoming fifth studio album "Fear Inoculum" were going sky high, I mean it would be almost an impossible challenge for TOOL to live up that. So finally it arrived and we can start to judge it, will the wait has been in vain or did they really manage to pull it off, well after serval spins of "Fear Inoculum" (released August 30) I do like what I hear and I'm really happy that they manage to pull it off.

"Fear Inoculum" is a massive piece to dig into, almost 87 mins of music divided into ten tunes. Or seven tunes on the physical version, CD only sofar, still waiting on the real format on this, hopefully in the future. The 10 tunes include 4 instrumental pieces that are squeezed in between the original tracks, only one instrumental on the physical version. The tunes are progressive and very melodic, the vocals are all on the long epics and all spins over the 10 mins line and all follow the same line in basic compositions and structure that follows the typical TOOL way. Jones guitars and Carey's drums are the backbones of the album and spices it up with Keenan's voice to make it more mature. All the tunes on the album have a really high class, no low points at all, excellent musicianship makes the album really funny to listen to. Even the instrumental parts stand out like the drum and synth piece "Chocolate Chip Tip". The highlights are the harmonic and rhythmic "Descending", melodic with a twisty Middle Eastern touch and the crushing doomish chorus in "Pneuma", and the progressive and heavy 15 mins majestic beast "7empest". Overall "Fear Inoculum" is an outstanding album and is absolutely worth the wait.

Sum: "Fear Inoculum" is a marvelous album.

Today's tune is the title tune from "Fear Inoculum", enjoy!

The Holy Mackerel - The Secret Of Pleasure

Sunday, time for a classic.

"The Secret Of Pleasure" is a tune by the American psychedelic pop band THE HOLY MACKEREL.

The band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1968. Created mainly as a studio venture to capitalize on Paul Williams' early success as a songwriter, the group recorded one self-titled studio album in the same year. Development for the album included several bandmates and top session musicians, but audiences were mostly unreceptive to it until THE HOLY MACKEREL was reissued years later.

Before THE HOLY MACKEREL, Paul Williams was a struggling singer, songwriter, and actor, who appeared in some low box office films and was one of many people turned down for a role in The Monkees. After an uneventful three months with White Whale Records, Williams begin working with Richard Perry. Perry offered Williams an attempt to record a studio album and signed a deal with Reprise Records, compelling Williams to form a band before entering the studio.

Williams recruited his brother, Mentor (rhythm guitar, vocals), ex-JEFFERSON AIRPLANE member Bob Harvey (bass guitar, vocals), George Hiller (lead guitar, vocals), Cynthia Fitzpatrick (flute, vocals), and former TURTLE Don Murray (drums), branding the group as THE HOLY MACKEREL.

On November 22, 1967, Biff Rose, (songwriter) who wrote "Fill Your Heart With Love" with additional lyrics by Williams, introduced Williams to Chuck Kaye of A&M Records, who suggested that he join with Roger Nichols to form a song-writing partnership. In March 1968, the Holy Mackerel began work on their self-titled album at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, cutting the first two tracks "The Golden Ghost of Love" and an early version of the Nichols-Williams song "To Put Up with You". Williams subsequently re-recorded the latter track on his 1970 solo album Someday Man. Later that same month, the group moved operations to United Studios and added session musicians such as Steve LeFevre.

Recording continued throughout mid-1968, and an album jacket with THE HOLY MACKERELs original line-up was designed; however, shifts in personnel necessitated a new cover image. Harvey, who wrote the psychedelic, sitar-laden "Wildflowers", left during development and was replaced by future Elvis Presley bassist Jerry Scheff. Soon after, Murray departed to perform in nightclubs; the group called upon Michael Cannon and Dewey Martin of BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD to fill-in at his position. Because of the band's various backgrounds, the album itself promoted a wide-variety of musical tastes including country rock, blues, and psychedelia. In November 1968, THE HOLY MACKEREL was released, but, whether a result of being distributed around the same time as "Electric Ladyland" or lack of a following for the band, the album failed to chart nationally. Three singles taken from the album also were commercially unsuccessful.

By the time the album was released, THE HOLY MACKEREL had already disbanded a few months beforehand. Williams edged out a solo and a more successful writing career, penning hit songs for musical acts like THREE DOG NIGHT and THE CARPENTERS. THE HOLY MACKEREL was reissued on CD format in 2005 on Collector's Choice Music. A deluxe edition, packaged with ten bonus tracks and extensive liner notes, was later distributed in 2010 by Now Sounds Records.

Today's tune "The Secret Of Pleasure" is taken from the self titled debut album, enjoy this!

Melvins - Don't Forget to Breathe

Monday, new week, no "Record Of The Week", it's the day before the countdown starts, so today we play something that didn't reach up to the glorious 50 best albums of 2018.

And as usual, too much music, to little time. It's almost that I would like to play 2 songs every day to cover it all up, or make the album of the day, naa this is enough, but still, the count of all good records that were released during 2018 is incredible.

So to create together a neatly top 50 list have been very difficult to complete, it feels that it has been harder than ever to put together, am I getting older or is there to much to choose from, well I guess I need to narrow down my music taste to make life easier every year when it comes to this, you know, when you compare albums to each other it's pretty easy to decide which one is the better one and gets a better position, but after a few, it's getting harder and harder, after a bunch of records you get crazy and you will lose track in your count. So after many hours I finally decided my sprawling list of divine music, I hope you will enjoy the upcoming days here at Tune Of The Day!

One album that I have pretty recently start to spinning is MELVINS "Pinkus Abortion Technician", a pretty cool and odd record, check it up if you want something that is not normal. The eight-song album is the band’s first to feature two bass tracks on every song, with the bass players being Steve McDonald (REDD KROSS, OFF!) and Jeff Pinkus (BUTTHOLE SURFERS).

Enjoy today's tune and check up the album.

The Freeks - American Lightning

Los Angeles band, THE FREEKS, know that as the Earth revolves the sun and the Universe infinitely expands, it must be shared with as many different kinds of life as there are stars. A bold statement coming from a bunch of FREEKS. This is not a new concept, however, an ever-recurring one dating back to Ezekiel’s biblical account to even further back with evidence from ancient Egypt and Mayan times. After 4,000 years the theory continues strong as we enter 2018.

THE FREEKS also enter 2018 with the completion of "CRAZY WORLD", their fourth full length “LP” and second release for Italian based HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS RECORDS. A studio record with eight songs that take you on a psychedelic journey from hidden moonlit distilleries all the way up to the Mothership and back down to Mother Earth. It could have happened in 2700 BC and it’s definitely happening again now as THE FREEKS continue to ferment their ethanol infused fuzz rock, bead their songwriting to reflect a heavier content and extract added amounts of psychoactive chemicals from the minds of their listeners.

THE FREEKS consists of: Ruben Romano (founding member of FU MANCHU and NEBULA) returns at the helm supported by Bob Lee on drums (CLAW HAMMER, MIKE WATT), Esteban Steban Chavez on Keys, Jonathan Hall on Guitar (BACKBITER) and introducing the latest Freek on Bass, Ray Piller (BIBLICAL PROOF OF U.F.O.’s).

Today's tune "American Lightning" taken from the album "Crazy World", featuring the ripping guitar leads by Ray Hanson (from legendary THEE HYPNOTICS), enjoy!

The Rolling Stones - Ride 'Em On Down

"Blue & Lonesome" is a covers album by THE ROLLING STONES, their 23rd British and 25th American studio album—released on 2 December 2016. It is the band's first album to feature only cover songs. It is their first studio release since 2005's "A Bigger Bang". "Just Your Fool", a Buddy Johnson cover, was released as the first single from the album on 6 October.

"Blue & Lonesome" was recorded in just three days in December 2015. In April 2016, at the launch of THE ROLLING STONES career retrospective Exhibitionism, the band confirmed their new album due to be released "some time in the autumn". Richards said the album would feature "a lot of Chicago blues". Eric Clapton plays guitar on two tracks. Clapton was recording his own album in the same studio as the Stones were and was asked to play on a few tracks. The album is entirely blues-based, consisting of covers of artists such as Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter.

This is the first album since "Dirty Work" to not feature any guitar playing from Jagger (who instead concentrates completely on vocals and harmonica) and also the first since It's Only Rock 'n Roll to not feature a lead vocal from Richards.

Today's tune is a cover of Eddie Taylor's "Ride 'Em On Down" originally recorded by Taylor in Chicago on 5 December 1955 for the Vee-Jay Label (and released as VJ 185) under the titel ""Shake 'Em On Down". The video features actress Kristen Stewart riding through Los Angeles driving a blue 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback.
