Grant-Lee Phillips - Remember This

Grant-Lee Phillips lost in the music as he performs his recent single "Remember This".

The single is taken from the forthcoming album "All That You Can Dream", which is due out on 20th May 2022. Like many artists, Phillips turned to song-writing when his touring schedule was paused indefinitely during the pandemic.

He explains: “I found respite in the process when I could do little else. It became a sort of meditation on this time in my life and the events that we’ve collectively experienced. We’ve experienced some staggering events over the past several years or so. When people speak of those things, it’s not enough to simply highlight or underline the headlines of the day. The aim is to tap into the feelings that we share that are trapped beneath our skin—and figure out how we expel those feelings by talking about them. I found that the circumstances of being off the road and left to reflect on what this time feels like, produced a different kind of song. In some ways, that freed me up to write and record the kind of song that was personal and executed as though it were for an audience of myself alone. That’s freeing.”

In a nod to this lyrical elegance, "All That You Can Dream's" music is ornate but spare. Phillips wrote and arranged the album's songs on guitar or piano, adding a basic rhythmic and vocal framework. To flesh out the music's contours, he then enlisted a pair of trusted previous collaborators, the Los Angeles-based bassist Jennifer Condos and drummer Jay Bellerose. "They were going stir-crazy themselves and welcomed the idea of a long-distance recording project," Phillips says. Bellerose set up drums in his living room, Condos served as engineer, and the duo laid down rhythm tracks to songs Phillips had sent over, as if the three musicians were all in the same room.

It’s a sensitive, introspective collection of songs that reflect the uncertainties and anxieties of the world we’re currently living in. Look out for the album and, in the meantime, enjoy this and try to catch him live, see all the dates below.

Natural Child - Out In The Country

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, NATURAL CHILD are a trio whose good and greasy style is informed by Southern rock, vintage country-rock, laid-back Laurel Canyon sounds, '70s-style boogie, a dash of hard rock, and most likely a careful balance of liquor and bong hits (the bookmark icon for the band's official blog is a tiny pot leaf, and their lyrics often confirm their fondness for recreational marijuana).

NATURAL CHILD were formed in 2009 by bassist Wez Traylor and drummer Zack Martin, who had just left another Nashville-based band, the TURBO FRUITS. Singer and guitarist Seth Murray previously played in THE HORRIBLY WRONG while living in Bloomington, Indiana.

NATURAL CHILD released their first 7" within months of their first practice, and in their first two years, they managed to play over 200 shows per annum. In 2010, NATURAL CHILD brought out a cassette-only EP, "Bodyswitchers". In 2012, they signed on with the respected California indie Burger Records, releasing two records that same year, "For The Love Of The Game" and "Hard In Heaven". Followed by 2014 "Dancin' With Wolves", 2016 "Okey Dokey" and the self titled "Natural Child" in 2020.

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown - Holdin’ My Breath

Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown is an American rock band. Founded in Nashville, Tennessee by guitarist Tyler Bryant, the group has since released four successful studio albums, and has toured with such groups as Jeff Beck, ZZ TOP, AEROSMITH, AC/DC, GUNS N' ROSES and LYNYRD SKYNYRD, as well as making appearances at several rock-themed music festivals. The group's current lineup consists of Tyler Bryant (lead guitar & vocals), Graham Whitford (rhythm guitar), Ryan Fitzgerald (bass), and Caleb Crosby (drums).

Fourth studio album from the Nashville rockers. "Pressure" is the product of a band bursting with creativity stuck indoors during lockdown. Surrounded by gear and a pile of demos – the band set out to create a 6 track EP but this quickly became a fully fledged album produced by longstanding friend Roger Alan Nichols.

"Pressure" is 13 songs of the bands finest work, created in difficult times as a reflection of their emotions and bottling the moment. Featuring guest appearances from Rebecca Lovell of LARKIN POE and BLACKBERRY SMOKES Charlie Starr.

Tyler Childers - House Fire

Appalachia country breakout Tyler Childers returned with his third album "Country Squire" on August 2, 2019, through Childers' own Hickman Holler label. Recorded at the Butcher Shoppe in Nashville, the album was produced by Sturgill Simpson.

  Tyler Childers (born June 21, 1991) is an American singer and songwriter. His music is a mix of country, bluegrass and folk.

Today's tune "House Fire" and the nine-track "Country Squire" follow "Purgatory", a stirring 2017 release from Childers that launched the earnest, poignant songwriter into an international success.

The single was accompanied with a video in March of 2019, "House Fire" uses a hyperbolic metaphor of a house fire to describe the passions felt for a lover living too far away, and his need to get to her. An uptempo tune with driving rhythm that gives the tune a dynamic that it’s difficult to remain seated while listening to.

CLUTCH is one of the best rock acts of the modern era that refuses to follow the mainstream industry or fall back into some retro act, they just play some simple real rock.

"Book of Bad Decisions" is a brilliant follow up to 2015's "Psychic Warfare", it's wise and deliberate, stylish and freaky and funny, that will make you fiddle after the "repeat" button. Fallon's lyrics are amazing, I wonder what's going on in his head when it comes down to write a tune and how the hell does he explain his ideas to his wingman's and the tightest band he could ever work with, guitarist Tim Sult, bassist Dan Maines, and drummer Jean-Paul Gaster.

The album is filled up with heavy rocket-fuelled blues and weaponized boogie funk and it kicks off with a real firestarter of "Gimme The Keys" that follows up by the boogaloo of "Spirit Of ’76", to the hard-charging riffs in "How To Shake Hands", after that comes "In Walks Barbarella" that will stun you with it crazy and freak out lyrics, apparently, not everything has to be serious. Some classic in the Rock n' roller "Vision Quest" to the groovy "Weird Times" and the powerful "Emily Dickenson", the straightforward old-school kitchen crab cakes bluegrass of "Hot Bottom Feeder" to the closing winding tongues of "Lorelei".

Sum: Another superb release from Maryland's finest.

All Them Witches - Diamond

By most bands’ fifth LP, the sound is pretty set. Parameters established. Refinement dissipated in favor of formulaic execution of what’s worked in the past and with the new single from the Nashville psych-rock experimentalists, ALL THEM WITCHES is sounding really promising.

In 2017, the Nashville four-piece offered what might’ve otherwise become their own template in their fourth album, "Sleeping Through The War". Their second for New West Records following 2015’s mellow-vibing "Dying Surfer Meets His Maker", Sleeping brought larger production value to dug-in heavy psych blues jamming with oversight from producer Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson). Good or bad, well I have learned to like it true time, even if the older one is more playable for my ears.

The new album is mixed by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith, Kurt Vile) and introducing keyboardist/percussionist Jonathan Draper to the fold with McLeod, bassist/vocalist Charles Michael Parks, Jr., and drummer/graphic artist Robby Staebler, the new eponymous record isn’t self-titled by mistake.

Today's tune "Diamond" is taken from the upcoming album "ATW", set to be released September 28. The Video is directed by Robby Staebler.



Additionally, the band has announced a US headlining tour, kicking off at the Desert Daze Music Festival in Perris, CA on October 12-14 where they will play alongside the likes of MY BLOODY VALENTINE, TAME IMPALA, KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD.

Rival Sons - Do Your Worst

California-Nashville rock outfit RIVAL SONS offer a look at stage performances on the road and behind-the-scenes snippets in the video for their new song, "Do Your Worst". This is the first new music to be made available from the band's forthcoming LP, expected to arrive early next year on Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb's Low Country Sound imprint via Atlantic, which was recorded at Studio A and the equally legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

"Do Your Worst" is a great rocker with a gritty lead guitar riff, rough and catchy drumming and powerful vocals with catchy chorus.

Buchanan said he and RIVAL SONS guitarist Scott Holiday wrote “Do Your Worst” during a session in south Tennessee. “Sometimes environment really shapes a song,” he said. “Hunkered down in a threadbare shack deep in the south Tennessee woods we (Scott and I) sweated it out and just wrote for a week straight. We were set out on an old causeway surrounded by neglected reservoirs and overgrown with shit you don’t want to see and yes; infested with all manner snakes. The song is a whiskey nightmare crawling with copperheads to me.”

All Them Witches - Elk.Blood.Heart

Heavy, heady and hypnotic, ALL THEM WITCHES concoct a powerful and potent psychedelic sound that fuses bluesy soul, Southern swagger, and thunderous hard rock.

The Dead Deads - Nothing Will Be Fine

The Nashville, Tennessee, alternative rockers THE DEAD DEADS releases an EP 2017, where today's tune was included, a video was made for "Nothing Will Be Fine". A tune were they have created a sound and a culture that is part heritage, part science fiction, and all ROCK. Heads bang as metal and grunge riffs are beaten into submission by relentless, often bombastic rhythms. Sixties harmonies, brutal growls and finely crafted wordplay force unexpected stops and odd time signatures into undeniable hooks creating a new brand of drum-driven rock–brutal, silly and sublime.

THE DEAD DEADS are very influenced by the sound of bands from 90’s, like THE PIXIES and SONIC YOUTH, to a more modern metal acts like MASTODON and BARONESS and the punkish and grunge roots of NOFX, WEEZER, NIRVANA. Very interesting mix of music.

They have been very busy touring over the years. And in 2017 got off to a crazy start with another trip on ShipRocked, direct support for NONPOINT and a run with ALTER BRIDGE and at the same time they released the latest EP, produced by Matt Mahaffey. They are currently writing for the third studio record, and will finish the year out with SEETHERs "Poison the Parish" tour after two shows with SKID ROW.

A Thousand Horses - Smoke

"Smoke" is a song by American country music group A THOUSAND HORSES. It is their debut release and the first from their album "Southernality".

The band formed in 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. The band is composed of Michael Hobby (lead vocals), Bill Satcher (lead guitar), Zach Brown (guitar and vocals), and Graham Deloach (bass and vocals). Their first EP, A Thousand Horses, was released under Interscope Records in 2010. In 2014, the band signed with Republic Nashville of Big Machine Label Group and released its first single "Smoke", which set a record for the highest debut by a new act when it opened at number 28 on the Country Aircheck radio chart.

The song is a ballad in which the narrator compares his lover to the substance dependence of tobacco, referring to her as a "habit that I can't let go"

Giving it a "B+", Jim Casey of Country Weekly praised the song's Southern rock and blues influences, adding that "The forlorn lyrics are despairing, but frontman Michael Hobby's gritty vocals…drive the song into an endorphin-releasing euphoria."

Today's tune "Smoke" taken from the latest album "Southernality". The music video was directed by Peter Zavadil. In the video, the band performs the song live about an erotic dancer they are watching on stage. Joseph Hudak of Rolling Stone compared the video to that of "Girls, Girls, Girls" by MÖTLEY CRUE.

Chris Stapleton - Tennessee Whiskey

New week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

Traveller is the highly anticipated Mercury Records Nashville solo debut album from rising superstar Chris Stapleton. This Kentucky native first got his start a decade ago as the lead singer of the bluegrass band, THE STEELDRIVERS. Stapleton is born 1978 and is an American country and bluegrass musician that is already a world-renowned songwriter, Stapleton has enjoyed six number-one songs including the five-week number-one "Never Wanted Nothing More" recorded by Kenny Chesney, "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" recorded by George Strait, and "Come Back Song" recorded by Darius Rucker. As a songwriter, over 150 of Stapleton's songs have appeared on albums by such artists as Adele, Luke Bryan, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley. He has co-written with notable artists like Vince Gill, Peter Frampton and Sheryl Crow.

In 2015, Stapleton released his debut album Traveller. It reached number one on the Billboard 200. Stapleton won the 2015 Country Music Association Award for Best Male Vocalist, New Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year for Traveller. He received four Grammy Award nominations for the 2016 ceremony, including Album of the Year.

Recorded at Nashville's historic RCA Studio A (with additional production at The Castle and Blackbird Studio), Traveller was produced by Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell) and recorded by Vance Powell (Jack White). In addition to renditions of Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove's "Tennessee Whiskey" and Don Sampson's "Was It 26," the album features twelve original songs, including fan-favorite "Sometimes I Cry."

The album is an old-school country record mixed with Southern rock. Tracks on the album features electric guitar, mandolin, and acoustic guitar. "The Devil Named Music" exclaims the hard life on the road, "Might As Well Get Stoned" features resignation lyrics, and "Sometimes I Cry" is a blues song. "Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore" shrouds reflections about his father in the language of religious backsliding.

This is a damn good record that works for any Southern rock, Country music lovers. 

Stapleton wrote or co-wrote all but two of the album's 14 tracks. The album features a blues-influenced cover of George Jones' single "Tennessee Whiskey", and Charlie Daniels' "Was It 26," written by Don Sampson.

Today's tune "Tennessee Whiskey" is the title of a country song written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. It was originally recorded by American country music artist David Allan Coe for his album of the same name. The song was covered by American country music artist George Jones, whose version was released in August 1983 as the third single from his album Shine On. Coe joined Jones onstage to sing a chorus on the song at the inaugural Farm Aid in 1985. It remained a mainstay in Jones' live set, with the singer often substituting the name of whatever city or town he was in for "Tennessee" in the second chorus.

Kings Of Leon - Sex on Fire

Another big American Alternative Rock band that did play at Bråvalla, Kings of Leon from Nashville, Tennessee, formed in 1999. The band is composed of brothers Anthony Caleb Followill (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Ivan Nathan Followill (drums, percussion, backing vocals) and Michael Jared Followill (bass guitar, backing vocals), with their cousin Cameron Matthew Followill (lead guitar, backing vocals).

Todays tune "Sex on Fire" is most likely on the set-list, the tune is the first single released from Kings of Leon's fourth studio album "Only by the Night".

The song gave Kings of Leon their first number-one single in Australia, Finland, Ireland and the United Kingdom, charting at the top-spot on digital downloads alone in the latter country, before its physical release. In September 2009 it was Britain's second most-downloaded digital single ever. Along with all of these achievements, in 2008, the song earned the band their first Grammy nominations. The song was nominated for Best Rock Song, and won the award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. In addition, the album earned a nomination for Best Rock Album. Channel V Australia named the song as the third biggest hit of 2008.
