Night Riots - Nothing Personal

NIGHT RIOTS is an American alternative rock band from San Luis Obispo, California. Formed in 2010, the band consists of Travis Hawley (lead vocals), Nick Fotinakes (guitar), Matt DePauw (guitar), Mikel Van Kranenburg (bass), and Rico Rodriguez (drums).

The music could be compared to THE CURE and THE KILLERS; with Hawley's "emotive vocal style" compared to that of Robert Smith. It's heavy rock synth electronica with a dance feeling.

Today's tune "Nothing Personal" is taken from the debut album "Love Gloom"

The Answer - Solas

Northern Irish rockers THE ANSWER released their new album, "Solas", on October 28 via Napalm. The record was produced by Andy Bradfield and Avril Mackintosh, who previously worked with THE ANSWER on their 2006 album "Rise". "Solas", which is the Gaelic (Irish language) word for "light," is also the title of the lead track on the new album.

With the last record "Raise A Little Hell" the band started to get outdated and a bit musty. Not that the album was bad, it just didn't have anything new. With "Solas" the band takes a new turn, creating something brand new. Is this good, well, hell yeah. The new "ANSWER" really show that these guys can play.

Having gone back to their roots and rediscovered their inner selves, "Solas" is an honest and brave album that panders to no label, to no media framework and to no rules. It is dark, occasionally menacing and at certain moments, joyous and uplifting. It is a record that bears the scars and soul of four talented men from Northern Ireland; sometimes troubled but seeking creative liberation.

The symbol that sits on the front cover, the ancient Celtic sign for "illumination," bears witness to this 2016 musical evolution. THE ANSWER are firmly embarked upon a new journey having been through the darkest period in their relatively brief rock history.

THE ANSWER consists of Cormac Neeson (vocals), Paul Mahon (guitar), Michael Waters (bass) and James Heatley (drums).

Today's tune "Solas" is the title track from the upcoming album. Enjoy!

Metallica - Hardwired...to Self-Destruct

Monday, New Week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

"Hardwired...to Self-Destruct" is the latest release from METALLICA. This is the latest attempt to return to the roots.

It follows the path of "Death Magnetic", the big difference is that this time they sound like they’re actually trying and that they really having a bit of fun in making of the album. Must say that I am mightily surprised, did not initially at first that they would succeed in creating an album that would be worth listen to, but hey they made it, it's damn good, refocused and fun record. It's triumphant return of the lads. This easily METALLICAs best album they've done since "The Black album".

The album is almost entirely written by drummer Lars Ulrich and singer-guitarist James Hetfield.

"Hardwired...to Self-Destruct" is trashy, heavy and re-fresh.

Overall the album have a really good quality, the riffs are smart and well executed, the drumming is well played, the bass lines are heavy and the vocals are clear and ruff. The tunes varies from trashy galloping metal like "Hardwired", excellent "Atlas, Rise", "Dream No More" and the SABBATH trasher "Confusion" and the more hard rock, heavy metal like the beauty "Now That We're Dead", "Moth Into Flame" and "ManUNkind" to half pace doomier cuts like "Halo On Fire", "Am I Savage?" and the Lemmy tribute in "Murder One" to close up the album with the blitzkrieg "Spit Out the Bone"

Sum: "Hardwired...to Self-Destruct" is a very good, honest, release!

Gasolin - Hva' Gør Vi Nu, Lille du?

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Hva' gør vi nu, lille du?" is a single released 1976 by the Danish rock band GASOLIN' where the B side had the tune "Keep On Knockin'".

GASOLIN' was a Danish rock band from Christianshavn in Copenhagen formed by Kim Larsen, Franz Beckerlee and Wili Jønsson in 1969. Their first drummer was the late Bjørn Uglebjerg. He was replaced by Søren Berlev in 1971. At the formation the guitar playing of Franz Beckerlee was inspired by Jimi Hendrix and the singing and lyrics of Larsen was inspired by Bob Dylan, while the rhythm playing of Jønsson and Berlev owed much to The Beatles. However, they would soon develop their own musical style. The pop sensibility of Kim Larsen, the artistic attitude of Franz Beckerlee and the musical competence of Wili Jønsson would prove to be a recipe for success. GASOLIN's lyrics were generally written by the entire group, often with the assistance of friend Mogens Mogensen who also wrote today's tune.

Franz Beckerlee and Wili Jønsson had known each other since they were kids, and as both played music they wanted to form a band together. While Beckerlee had been brought up without much love by his grandmother and grandfather, he felt warmth in Wili's home. Kim Larsen joined them after read an ad which was put up at Christiania. He soon became "one of the boys" , but the band still lacked a drummer. After a while Bjørn Uglebjerg became their first drummer, but was later replaced with Søren Berlev. In 1970 GASOLIN' released their first single "Silky Sally." It was followed by "Child of Institution" and "Johnny The Jackpot." These three singles were sung in English and flopped. Their debut album and all subsequent albums had Danish lyrics and were a success. Although they would occasionally still sing in English, Danish proved to be the language where they could express themselves most eloquently and this was acknowledged by the Danish audience and critics.

From 1972 to 1978, GASOLIN' was the most popular rock band in Denmark. With producer Roy Thomas Baker, they released classics such as "Gasolin' 3", "Gas 5" and "Efter endnu en dag". Some people consider GASOLIN' to be the Danish BEATLES, with each album a landmark and like The Beatles, breaking up at the pinnacle of their success. The reasons for the split-up was the failure to break the international market and personal differences.

After the demise, Kim Larsen would go on to become a very successful solo artist. His album from 1983, "Midt om Natten", is the best-selling album in Denmark ever. Wili Jønsson and Søren Berlev would go on playing music as session musicians and in various bands. Franz Beckerlee works as an artist, but occasionally he played with Søren Berlev in Christianhavns Bluesband and in 1979 he released "No Kiddin".

In 1991, the CD compilation "Rabalderstræde Forever" became a hit as was the box set from 2003 "The Black Box". In 2006, a movie called GASOLIN' 4-ever directed by Anders Østergaard became the most popular documentary movie in Denmark ever. Despite this, GASOLIN' have always refused to reunite.

Today's tune "Hva' gør vi nu, lille du?" was released as a single back in 1976, the tune is also available on the bands collections like "Supermix", "Live in Scandinavia", "The Black Box" & "Masser Af Succes"

Hayden Calvin - Cut Love

From early beginnings, the Australian singer/songwriter, Hayden Calnin has carved out a path refusing to adhere to convention and genre. By the time the multi-instrumentalist had graduated from film school, a major in sound design had set the scene for Calnin to take an interest in music production.

On his first two self-produced EPs, he explored the realms of everything from folk through to downbeat, melting together powerful melodies with understated electronic production. This lead to significant attention across major international blogs, Australian radio and USA college radio leading to US sync placements on the likes of Suits, Parenthood and Teen Wolf, festival slots at Falls and NYE on the Hill and supports with the likes of Missy Higgins, Matt Corby, Tom Odell and The Antlers.

Since his last EP, Calnin has found inspiration from current electronic artists such as M83 whilst delving more deeply into early childhood influences from his parents’ collection such as FLEETWOOD MAC and COUNTING CROWS which has led him to revisit his first love—the guitar. His sound on recently recorded material is a spectacular melting of where he’s been and where he’s going as an artist, remaining faithful to that ‘late night’ vibe, while bringing forward his melodic side.

Today’s tune "Cut Love” is taken from the album "Cut Love Pt. 1”. Directed By: Hayden Calnin + Lukas McFarlane, Performance/Choreography: Lukas McFarlane and Daisy Calnin, Cinematography: Thom Neal, Steadicam: Aaron Foley, Camera assist: James Bentley, Edit: Hayden Calvin, Stills: Al Parkinson and Laura Calnin and thanks to Joy Luck Studios for the use of their rooftop and home.

Beware of Darkness - Dope

Time for another tune with the rambunctious psychedelic pop rockers BEWARE OF DARKNESS.

Today's tune is the immaculately pop-savvy "Dope", taken from the new album "Are You Real?", Enjoy!

“I love taking clichés and unconventional things and flipping them on their head,” lead singer Kyle Nicolaides says of the "Dope" music video. “I think we did that a lot of the album, and I think this video does that too. It also speaks volumes to women being emotionally and physically stronger than men.”

"Nonagon Infinity" is the eighth studio album by Australian psychedelic rock band KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD. It was released on 29 April 2016 on ATO Records. The album is an infinite loop, with every song flowing into one another, including the closing and opening track.

Youngblood Supercult - High Plains

Here you are beautiful Monday with a brand new week, let's get this show running and let's introduce the "Record Of The Week".

"High Plains" is the 2:nd release from YOUNGBLOOD SUPERCULT, a Heavy psych-blues band from Topeka, Kansas.

The band formed in the wake of the splintering of several different bands located on the desolate plains of northeast Kansas. They release their debut "Season of the Witch" on September 6th, 2013. Following the album release, vocalist Wyatt Desch left the group to focus on other endeavors. The remaining trio caught a break with the addition of their beloved friend and current vocalist, David Merrill. This transition marked a new era for the group. They wrote feverishly, departing from their previous driving heavy rock sound in favor of experimenting with elements of folk, blues, psych, and the droning, flat-tuned, off-time riffs that are the trademark of the traditional classic heavy stoner sound. The band released their sophomore album "High Plains" on February 19th, 2016.

"High Plains" is something totally new when comparing the second full-length album to their 2013 debut. Where the debut took a classic metal bent toward heavy rock, more straightforward and rhythmically driving album, "High Plains" is more psychadelic, classic rock with a versatility of blues rock allows the band to broaden their wings and take advantage of the new vocalist capacity, which they do quite nicely. I must say that I really like this approach. The lead vocalist David Merrill is tremendous throughout the record.

"High Plains" pulls their influences from the classic roots of heavy blues rock, drenched in seventies style riffs with a few modern vibes appearing now and again, like the opening instrumental jam tune "Stone Mountain Blues", distorted Americana flows out the speaker. "Monolith" is marvelous piece of music, one of many highlights on the album, half pace tempo, thick heavy riffs with a magical vocals that will make you melt into a lump. There is more in the real stand-out parts like the psychedelic and progressive approach in "Nomad", "White Nights", "Forefather", where they all have a doomy atmosphere that will give you a fuzzy ride through the seat of Shawnee County. Tunes like "Mind Control", "Hell Hath No Fury" have a more classic heavy blues rock sound where the riffs gets space and the melody is highlighted and in "Before The Dawn" you can coruscate the Occultism of SABBATH.

Sum: Get yourself a hazy ride through the seat of Shawnee County

The album is released on Vinyl, but I recommend that you hurry before it's sold-out.

Members:

Bailey Smith - Guitar
Weston Alford - Drums
Brad Morris - Bass
David Merrill - Vocals

Today's tune "Nomad" is taken from this week's "Record Of The Week", enjoy!

Manu Chao - Rainin in Paradize

Sunday, time for a classic!

"Rainin in Paradize" is the first single released from MANU CHAOs fourth studio album "La Radiolina". The song was first released on the artist's official website as a free download in June 2007 before it was officially released on July 2 through digital outlets such as iTunes worldwide. It is a large step away from Chao's previous releases and is the first song sung in either English or Spanish since the Próxima Estación: Esperanza album (since Sibérie m'était contéee was a French-only album).

This is a song about war, and it mentions several places that have been through war: Zaire, Congo, Monrovia, Palestina, Baghdad, Fallujah, Jerusalem and Guinea-Bissau.

Three different videos were made for this song. Two were animated and one was live action, with Chao driving through Buenos Aires in the rain.

The first video released for the song was an animated video directed by Wozniak and MANU CHAO. It was released on YouTube by Nacional Records on June 4, 2007. The visuals are much like those of the Sibérie m'était contéee album art.

A second video was released on June 30 on YouTube by Nacional Records. This one is a live action video with MANU CHAO and a three members of La Colifata (named Eduardo, Hugo and Alejandro) driving around Buenos Aires in the rain. One by one, MANU drops the passengers off until he is reunited with them in the end. The film features many images of suffering in the world. It was directed by Emir Kusturica.

A third video was released on June 30 as well on YouTube by Nacional Records. It was directed by 75 Prod and is once again animated.

Tau - The Bridge Of Khaju

TAU TAU TAU is a wild archaic scream from the heart, woven from a seamless thread of prayers, chants, psychedelic invocations, and as Nunutzi says “songs of praise” in English, Spanish and Gaelic, shaken through pre-hispanic drums, bells, shakers, synths and acoustic guitar played “through an amp with a very shitty pick up that gives a weird sound.”

The recordings began in Berlin, by happenstance on the day Bowie died, the album was completed in a nine day live session. “ Though sad, for us it was a very good omen to start that day. There was a silent euphoria in the room, like being at the wake of an old friend with your closest friends. We made an altar for him for the huge inspiration that he was which stayed there until we finished the recording”.

Featuring collaborations with Knox Chandler of SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES, Earl Harvin of TINDERSTICKS, Nina Hynes and MISSKENICHI, TAUTAUTAU includes numerous additional vocalists and musicians, all of whom make their own unique contribution to the celebratory psychedelic folk of Tau.

While tracks like Mother and Midnight Jaguar summon up the spiritual music of North and CentralAmerica, The Bridge of Khajou has its heart in the Sufi mystic poetry of Iran. Mo Anam Cara (Gaelic for soul mate) is haunted by the ghost of Love’s Arthur Lee. Venadito and Kauyumari is an ode to the Great Deer spirit . Espiral (Spanish for spiral) is Tau’s riotous interpretation of chant sang in Temazcal Sweatlodges . Tau’s journey through the psyche comes to rest with Tara - the sacred dwelling place of Ireland - a long, luminous jam that signals a momentous, if fleeting, feeling of completion.

Says Nunutzi, “Vibrations, notes, semi tones, chants, lyrics, whatever it is, music has the power to heal and transcend all the clutter and if you can create that magic for yourself you can give it back to other people. This blows my mind”.

Today's tune "The Bridge of Khajou" is taken from the album "TAU TAU TAU" was released October 3, 2016

Alter Bridge - My Champion

The American rock band ALTER BRIDGE is out on tour and make a stop at Annexet, Stockholm, Sweden for a show. With them they have the brand new studio album "The Last Hero". Support on tour is LIVING, see the dates below.

The Last Hero was written during the winter of 2015 while both singer Myles Kennedy and guitarist Mark Tremonti were on tour with their respective projects, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators and Tremonti, with the recording process being finished during the spring of 2016. Regarding the sound of the album, Tremonti stated it to be similar to Fortress and Blackbird but they were planning on darker sound. The album name comes from the subject of being a hero in society and people's feelings of disillusionment with their current leaders. It also marks a departure from the band's previous visual style, with the grungy aesthetic of previous albums replaced with a more streamlined logo.

Today's tune "My Champion" is taken from Alter Bridge's new album "The Last Hero". "The lyric was actually inspired by thinking back to my situation as a kid," Myles says. "I was this really small, underdeveloped kid who had to work extremely hard to keep up with all of my peers. It was very frustrating. I would hear a lot of words of encouragement from parents, coaches, or teachers though. A lot of those things were stored away, and they manifested themselves in this song. I've been able to apply some of those concepts in my life a thousand times over since then."

Tyketto - Kick Like A Mule

The New York based rockers TYKETTO released their latest album "Reach", at 14th of October. A band that I somehow liked back in the days. Haven't really got time to give this record a true spin but heard the new single and hey, it's pretty ok, so I guess I have to give it a chance.

The group was put together in 1987 by former Waysted vocalist Danny Vaughn, Brooke St. James (guitar), Jimi Kennedy (bass), and Michael Clayton (drums) completed the lineup.

By 1990, the band had signed to Geffen Records and released their debut album Don't Come Easy, which included the successful single "Forever Young." Musically, the album was somewhere between WHITESNAKE and BON JOVI, and TYKETTO opened for the former on many bills. However, the rise of the grunge sound in 1991 saw TYKETTOs hopes of a big breakthrough begin to recede. Jimi left the band and was replaced by Jamie Scott. Their second album was rejected by Geffen and finally emerged in 1994 under the title Strength in Numbers on CMC International in the USA and Music for Nations elsewhere in the world.

After five years of relentless touring that included playing on some of the most prestigious stages on the planet, TYKETTO took their revitalized energy in to the studio in the spring of 2016. The sessions took place at the legendary Rockfield Studios (QUEEN, RUSH, OASIS) in Wales. Musically, the band is truly at the top of their game, with their muscular brand of melodic rock delivered with the finest arrangements and awesome performances.

In addition to Vaughn and Arbeeny, the 2016 lineup of TYKETTO includes Chris Green (guitar and vocals), Ged Rylands (keyboards and vocals) and Chris Childs (bass).

Today's tune "Kick Like A Mule" is taken from the bands latest release "Reach"

Wolf People - Night Witch

A.D. 2016 and England is in flux. This bastard island is divided, shot through with doubt and self-loathing, ruled by the feverish egos of passing power hungry-dilettantes, two-bit aristocrats and smiling psychopaths. Swathes of the country have been sold off, paved over, neon-lit. England is at war with itself and this time the enemy is in the mirror. The people require a new narrative, a new soundtrack. They need to feel the pull of history and navigate a new path through the morass of misinformation.

Emerging from the woodlands, riverbanks and the dales like the grizzled ‘green men’ resistance fighters of the post-Norman invasions, the spirit-raising purveyors of pagan folk psyche prog WOLF PEOPLE return to provide exactly just that.

Ruins is their new album, and its over-riding theme is that of nature reclaiming the land. The transcendence of life over politics, plants over people. It asks: where are we going and what comes next? If culture is history’s narration, then Wolf People are custodians and conduits; electrified sages, if you will. Through them runs a time-line of a nation rising from bloody glory to existentialist confusion. Yet within Ruins, their album proper, lies a spirit of hope too, it is a reminder that society is no match for the mighty power of music and nature working in perfect symbiosis. Wolf People are time travellers, their tools mythology, history, hauntology, big riffs, bigger beats, electricity.

WOLF PEOPLE are:

Jack Sharp (guitar, vocals),
Joe Hollick (guitar),
Dan Davies (bass) and
Tom Watt (drums).

Today's tune "Night Witch" is taken from the latest release "Ruins"

Domkraft - The End of Electricity

Monday, it's time for "Record Of The Week"

"The End of Electricity" is the latest release from the monolithic power judgement DOMKRAFT.

The seeds for this Stockholm trio were planted in Gothenburg, where bassist/singer Martin Wegeland, guitarist Martin Widholm and drummer Anders Dahlgren met while playing in various musical constellations. Bonding over the likes of SPACEMEN 3, MONSTER MAGNET, SLEEP and HAWKWIND, plus a fascination with trudging, 10-minute/three chord songs, they finally came together after each relocated to Stockholm.

"The End of Electricity" is a fascinating album where the heaviest shaping sound flows out into a monolith malevolent half-chant incantation and the repeated notes follow each other into a kaleidoscopic flurry, a stunning drone psychedelia.

The album contains 7 tunes that spins in at 40 mins, the record starts with the 10½ minute "The Rift" which draws you into a riff minimalism that will be hard to quarrel out from before the collapse and the tunes fade out to the perfect culmination "Meltdown Of The Orb" takes over. Hey, are you guys hooked now, well I am! The beautiful CLUTCH alike interlude "Drones" flows in the air until "Red Lead" hits the pan and the riffs are screaming again. "All Come Hither" a wonderful piece with a very hypnotic melody, I have been humming it the whole day. "Dustrider" is a punkish SABBATH tune, heavy and filthy. The album closes with crushing riff of the psychedelic "We Will Follow".

DOMKRAFT. Their name combines the Swedish “DOM” for judgement and “KRAFT” for power.
