KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD have shared a new video for the new single and the album opener "Yours". The video is the first of ten new visuals set to accompany new album "Butterfly 3000", which was released on Friday via KGLW / Virgin Music Australia.
That the band is very creative by now we know well, their album releases come quite close with new directions, new steps and absolutely fantastic I think. The new album follows 17 studio albums, including the recently-released "K.G." and "L.W."
Similar to its two predecessors, "Butterfly 3000" was executed in isolation, recorded entirely in the band members’ own homes, their studio and rehearsal space remaining out-of-bounds. First and foremost, the band were writing this new material on unfamiliar equipment, like modular synthesizers. “As we’re not very skilled at them and don’t have the deepest knowledge of this stuff, we’d get happy accidents – lots of weird, wrong, broken sounds we flipped and looped and turned into songs.” Says Stu Mackenzie.
KING GIZZARD did release two albums during 2019, where their 2nd album entitled "Infest The Rats' Nest", via ATO Records! In complete contrast to the laid back, feel-good vibes of the first release this year "Fishing For Fishies", "Infest The Rats' Nest" is a full-on thrash metal inspired assault and one of the most complex records the band has made in their extensive discography, their 15th album, and counting!
In the words of Stu Mackenzie from the band: “In year 4 there was an older kid who was into RAMMSTEIN. I made friends with him and we put together a performance at our school assembly where we headbanged to "Du Hast". I got whiplash, which I thought was pretty cool. That was my introduction to heavy metal, and soon RAMMSTEIN led to METALLICA, METALLICA led to SLAYER, SLAYER led to KREATOR and SODOM. The German bands really kicked my ass and scared the hell out of me too. Later on, when I picked up a guitar I realized that shit was too hard to play, so I got into rock ‘n’ roll and garage. That was liberating.”
"Infest the Rats' Nest" was composed and recorded mostly with only three of the band's usual seven-man lineup and showcases influences derived from heavy metal, mixing the band's signature garage rock guitar tones and psychedelic rock sounds with thrash metal. The album makes consistent use of double-kick drumming influenced by heavy metal pioneers MOTÖRHEAD. On the album's themes, frontman Stu Mackenzie explained that the A-side is about current problems, especially ecological disaster, and is set in the near future, and the B-side is about the story of a group of rebels attempting to settle on Venus after being forced to leave Earth.

The music of KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD [AUS] is as hard to describe as their name is to pronounce. Sometimes it sounds like a psychedelic gem you managed to dig out at your local record shop but their sonic universe also incorporates jazz, heavy metal, progressive rock, film music and folk. Like a materialization of a record collectors dream, this Melbourne band fearlessly guides the listener through some of the most obscure borderlands of music history. Always with an absolute love for the for the forgotten music and an intact faith in its transforming potential.
Just a few hours before 2017 came to a close KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD managed to make their album “Gimboot Soup” available on their Bandcamp and thus fulfilling the more than ambitious promise to release five (!) album in 2017 alone. If anyone was to pull of such a foolish venture it was King Gizz who released two album each year between 2013 and 2015. This seven-piece band is not only very productive, they are also known for their excellent live shows. In other words: prepare your minds for expansion because they will visit Slottsskogen this summer.
KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD will perform in Slottsskogen on Friday, August 10.
The band was formed in 2010 in Melbourne, Victoria. The band consists of Stu Mackenzie (vocals, guitar, keyboards, flute), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (vocals, harmonica, keyboards), Cook Craig (guitar, vocals), Joey Walker (guitar, vocals), Lucas Skinner (bass), Michael Cavanagh (drums, percussion), and Eric Moore (drums, percussion, management). They are known for their prolific recording output, as well as their energetic live performances. This is something I really looking forward to see.
Today's tune "Rattlesnake" is taken from the ninth studio album "Flying Microtonal Banana". It was released on 24 February 2017 on Flightless Records in Australia, ATO Records in the United States, and Heavenly Recordings in the United Kingdom. It is the first of five albums released in 2017, and subtitled "Explorations into Microtonal Tuning, Volume 1". The album is recorded in quarter-tone tuning, where an octave is divided into 24 (logarithmically) equal-distanced quarter tones.
The album earned the band a nomination for Best Group at the ARIA Music Awards of 2017.

Sometimes, it can be cozy with some quirky stuff, especially like now, with all the crazy things happening around around us, at least it makes one wonder on where the heck are we going, future do not look so bright. So let's bring on some odd, cool and really quirky music.
"Nonagon Infinity" is the eighth studio album by Australian psychedelic rock band KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD. It was released on 29 April 2016 on ATO Records. The album is an infinite loop, with every song flowing into one another, including the closing and opening track.
The band is from Melbourne and formed in 2010. The band consists of Stu Mackenzie (vocals, guitar, flute), Ambrose Kenny Smith (synths, harmonica), Cook Craig (guitar), Joey Walker (guitar), Lucas Skinner (bass), Eric Moore (drums) and Michael Cavanagh (drums)
The band are noted for their energetic live performances and their prolific recording output, having released eight full-length albums since 2012. KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARDs early work saw them primarily perform in a style that blended 1960s surf music, garage rock and psychedelic rock; but more recently have experimented with a broader range of influences, including elements of film music, folk, jazz, soul, Krautrock and heavy metal. On November 10, 2016 the band announced the title of their 9th album, "Flying Microtonal Banana", which is to be released on February 24, 2017.
