"Gift Of Sacrifice" is the second solo album from KING BUZZO, the MELVINS frontman Roger "Buzz" Osborne. The album features MR. BUNGLE/FANTÔMAS bassist, Trevor Dunn.
“’I’m Glad I Could Help Out’ is the only song on the album that was done in a single take”, explains Osborne of the new track which also features MR. BUNGLE/FANTÔMAS and MELVINS Lite bass player Trevor Dunn. “Trevor and I recorded this in one live session and I couldn’t have been happier with what the result was.”
“It’s no secret that these are strange times The music industry has been wounded as have most everyone else,” says Ipecac co-founder Greg Werckman. “The combination of the closure of our beloved indie record stores, delays and shutdowns of manufacturing plants and the lack of disposable income for many has given us no reasonable choice but to delay the release of this wonderful record. Fear not, music as you knew it, will eventually be back.”
Osborne released his solo debut, "This Machine Kills Artists", in 2014. Consequence of Sound said the album is “the negative bizarre Dylan Goes Electric,” adding “”Osborne’s jump across the electric/acoustic tracks succeeds much the way Dylan’s did: by keeping the strengths while adjusting the settings.” Pitchfork succinctly dubbed the collection “a refreshing breath of unplugged f*ck-it-all folk.”

The true treasure of former MELVINS bassist Mark Deutrom's artistic expression lies in his wide-ranging and genre-transcending solo recordings. Following the recent re-releases of Mark’s solo albums "The Silent Treatment", "The Value Of Decay" and "Brief Sensuality & Western Violence", his brand new full-length "The Blue Bird" underlines the multi-instrumentalist's broad musical scope, this time guiding you through the elusive nature of happiness.

Monday, new week, no "Record Of The Week", it's the day before the countdown starts, so today we play something that didn't reach up to the glorious 50 best albums of 2018.
And as usual, too much music, to little time. It's almost that I would like to play 2 songs every day to cover it all up, or make the album of the day, naa this is enough, but still, the count of all good records that were released during 2018 is incredible.
So to create together a neatly top 50 list have been very difficult to complete, it feels that it has been harder than ever to put together, am I getting older or is there to much to choose from, well I guess I need to narrow down my music taste to make life easier every year when it comes to this, you know, when you compare albums to each other it's pretty easy to decide which one is the better one and gets a better position, but after a few, it's getting harder and harder, after a bunch of records you get crazy and you will lose track in your count. So after many hours I finally decided my sprawling list of divine music, I hope you will enjoy the upcoming days here at Tune Of The Day!
One album that I have pretty recently start to spinning is MELVINS "Pinkus Abortion Technician", a pretty cool and odd record, check it up if you want something that is not normal. The eight-song album is the band’s first to feature two bass tracks on every song, with the bass players being Steve McDonald (REDD KROSS, OFF!) and Jeff Pinkus (BUTTHOLE SURFERS).
The Norwegian JABBA is the “the only rock band in Tromsø”, hails originally from the rural town of Sørreisa and have fought their way through the harsh street life of this unforgiving northern settlement with loads of perseverance and struggle. After 10 years of backbreaking labor they are now finally ready to release their debut album "Vice".
"Vice" offers up 8 tracks full of torrential rolling drums and heavy distorted bass that truly sound like the bastard offspring between MOTÖRHEAD and MELVINS. It’s a boisterous and adventurous record just as indebted to sludge and punk as it is to power pop or alternative rock. You could say JABBA’s inspirations are many and wide, from BLACK SABBATH to ZZ TOP, from BIG BLACK to PRIMUS, however their sound can be summarized in just three words: loud, harsh and riotous.
Today's tune “Mathlete” is taken from the band’s debut album "Vice", released through Loyal Blood Records on July 19, 2017. Official JABBA music video by Carl Christian Lein Størmer. “Mathlete" is all about math skills and troubled times. Hard work and uphill battles. Tough times and algebra.”
"Stoner Witch" is the seventh album by MELVINS, which was released in 1994 through Atlantic Records.
In the wake of NIRVANAs "Nevermind" multi-platinum success, major labels scrambled to catch lightning in a bottle a second time by scooping up angular, but tuneful rock acts. Kurt Cobain had always described MELVINS as his favorite band, so Atlantic’s president Danny Goldberg who also managed NIRVANA decided to do his young protégés a solid by allowing MELVINS to essentially write their own ticket.
Hindsight shows how strange and uncompromising the resulting trilogy of albums on Atlantic—1993’s Houdini, 1994’s Stoner Witch and 1996’s Stag—actually were. In the current musical climate, there’s no way that a band like Melvins would be able to release another album with major label support after the hot mess that was Houdini, but Stoner Witch melded the hallmarks of the band’s earlier work (molten tempos, guitarist Buzz Osborne’s nonsensical lyrics) with a relatively radio-friendly ear towards arrangements.
In fact, Stoner Witch—the title springs from a term that drummer Dale Crover and his friends used to describe the stoner chicks at their high school—may be the most accessible record Melvins ever wrote. Although the term “accessible” is strictly relative, because, along with the megaton riffs of bona fide radio singles “Queen” and “Revolve,” there’s a host of indefatigably bizarre—and much looser—alternate-universe jukebox staples like the Tom Waits/Birthday Party homage “Goose Freight Train” and the droning epic “At the Stake.”
The band spent 19 days recording Stoner Witch with Garth “GGGarth” Richardson and Joe Barresi at the legendary A&M Studios in Hollywood. Most of the songs were captured in a single take, and all of the tracking and mastering was completed in a single, continuous session. Stoner Witch was the first time MELVINS had the luxury of recording in a massive studio, and the trio relished the opportunity to cycle through a ton of gear, tinker with tunings and explore the dramatic effect that an acoustically perfect space had on a series of very ugly-sounding compositions.

MELVINS are an American rock band that formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington. They have mostly performed as a trio, as well as a quartet with two drummers in recent years. Since 1984, vocalist and guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover have been constant members. The band was named after a supervisor at a Thriftway in Montesano, Washington, where Osborne also worked as a clerk. "Melvin" was despised by other employees, and the band's members felt it to be an appropriately ridiculous name. Their early work was key to the development of both grunge and sludge metal.
“There are bands that like to hide behind volume,” explains Crover. “They aren’t very good, but they’re fucking loud! We were pretty fucking loud back then, but we definitely weren’t hiding.” The basic concept behind Melvins remains true to this day: You’re either with them or you’re against them. There is no middle ground.

TWEAK BIRD fell from the sky in 2010 with a fantastic sound that blended mind-altering, psychedelic soundscapes with ear licking, wormhole riffs, wrapped up within a framework of back to basics songwriting.
Their sound is pretty unique. Caleb plays a baritone guitar, pitched (and sized) halfway between a regular guitar and bass and most often used by early surf bands. Alongside him the powerhouse Ashton knows that drums are not for tapping. He hit's them hard, really hard.
The album "Tweak Bird", produced by regular collaborators Deaf Nephews- Dale Crover and Toshi Yasai of the MELVINS, who also worked on 2008’s mini-album "Reservations" features beats as tough as the Birds’ fraternal harmonies are ethereal. Recorded in less than a week, the record regularly returns to themes of space travel and escape, the raucous astral optimism of "Lights In Line" and "Sky Ride" evocative of lost sixties psychedelic dreamers like KAK and Population II.
The Brothers Bird have been a band since 2007 and have been making heavy and upbeat happy music, the brothers are from Carbondale, Illinois.
Today's tune "Lights in Lines" taken from the self titled album, the video is directed by Marcus Mader.
Atlanta has Whores, but not just any Whores, these Whores are undoubtedly the most noise sensitive of them all! Formed in Spring 2010, Atlanta, US. The noise merchants Whores are (Christian Lembach - Vocals/Guitar, Jake Shultz - Bass, Travis Owen - drums).
The band signed with Brutal Panda Records in 2011 and released their debut, Ruiner. After numerous tours and shows across the US with the likes of Torche, Kylesa and many others did the band follow up with their sophomore release Clean. Recorded in May 2013 by Ryan Boesch (Melvins, Helmet, Tomahawk, Fu Manchu) at Parhelion Recording Studios in Atlanta.
Whores refine their crushingly heavy, catchy as fuck rock to violent perfection, it's raw, it's serious. it's a blast!
Todays tune "I'm an Amateur at Everything" from their sophomore EP, Clean, the tune is played live at the Basement in Atlanta on October 19, 2013.
Big Business is a stoner metal/sludge metal band from Seattle. The band started as a two piece band composed of Jared Warren of Karp and The Tight Bros From Way Back When and Coady Willis of Murder City Devils. Their sound has been characterized as a bombastic and frantic low end attack, marked by Warren's signature vocal delivery.
The band released its first album, "Head for the Shallow", on January 25, 2005.
In late 2006, after relocating to Los Angeles, Jared and Coady both became members of The Melvins, first appearing on "(A) Senile Animal". The tour, titled "the Double-Drumming Rock for Peace tour", featured Warren and Willis playing a set as Big Business before being joined by Crover and Osborne for a set as the Melvins. While on tour, Big Business played with David Scott Stone who would later play guitar and Minimoog Voyager on all songs from their 2007 release "Here Come the Waterworks”. Big Business released their third album "Mind the Drift" on May 12, 2009. The album, produced by Phil Ek, who has produced both of their previous albums.
They will be touring Summer 2011 with Torche and Thrones.
