Necrophobic - Dawn Of The Damned

Monday, a new week and it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

With thirty years of active, nefarious service under their bullet belts, the Swedish NECROPHOBIC are undisputed legends of the death and black metal underground. "Dawn Of The Damned" is once again recorded in collaboration with Fredrik Folkare of death metal icons UNLEASHED. The album was released on October 9th, 2020 via Century Media Records worldwide. The marvelous artwork is made by Necrolord.

There is no doubt that the previous album release "Mark Of The Necrogram" signified a new high for NECROPHOBIC in terms of sonic power. The expectations were high when I let the needle touch the first lines of my transparent "Sun Yellow" vinyl. With a bit worried soul I feared that they wouln't be able to keep the creavity and quality as high as the previous release. But hey ...after a few spins the worrines had change to a loveful happiness.

NECROPHOBIC shines like a star on it's aphelion from Earth and with its shimmer streaks down on the "Dawn Of The Damned". The album is an marvelous follow up to the previous release. Guitar driven melodic black/death metal as it's best. From the opening intro "Aphelion" to the album closer "Devil’s Spawn Attack" we get served with incomparable, bombastic tunes with such quality and masterful brilliance that you get tipped overboard of amazement and love for the show these guys servers us.

Sum: With "Dawn Of The Damned" they surprised themselves by their own brilliance.

NECROPHOBIC is:
Joakim Sterner / Drums
Anders Strokirk / Vocals
Sebastian Ramstedt / Guitars
Johan Bergebäck / Guitars
Allan Lundholm / Bass

Today's tune "Mirror Black", taken from "Dawn Of The Damned", enjoy and give this record a spin!

Kvaen - The Funeral Pyre

Monday, a new week and the hottest day so far here in Sweden. So with a sweaty face, it's time to present "Record Of The Week". With this, we are a bit patriotic and lift up a Swedish release.

Since both the mood and the craving for the slightly harder kind of music and an album that has had a lot of playing time lately is "The Funeral Pyre".  I suspect it will be a hard and sweaty week to look forward to.

"The Funeral Pyre" is the melodic black speed metal debut album of the solo project KVAEN, which consists of Swedish musician Jakob Björnfot (AUTUMN DEATH, THE DUSKFALL). The album features a lot of class session musicians such as Sebastian Ramstedt (NECROPHOBIC, ex-NIFELHEIM), Perra Karlsson (DREADFUL FATE, IN AETERNUM, ex-DESTRÖYER 666) and Danni Jelsgaard (ex-SVARTSOT), so buckle up and enjoy the ride.

KVAEN debut is a real beauty, an album that lies between acts like PRIMORIAL, VECTOR, TRIBULATION, and DISSECTION, a melodic mix of black metal and 80's speed metal. It is with great pleasure to press play. Unfortunately only digital and CD, for now, Vinyl will arrive at the end of June, which I look forward to with great joy.

"The Funeral Pyre" has eight marvelous tunes that spin between the four minutes mark up to just over six minutes with a total playtime of forty-five minutes, the perfect duration to make an impact and leave, whilst leaving the listener wanting more. "Revenge By Fire" opens up the album like a well-oiled chain saw, brutal, aggressive, and energetic, full packed with blood thinning. Thunderous drumming and fast picking riffs and a gruff half screaming vocals that lay a perfect layer into the melodic speedy Gonzalez. The tune is followed by another masterpiece that is born from the same mother as the previous track, an aggressive speedy thing named "Yee Naaldlooshii", (see the video below), melodic beauty that could be a tribute to Nödtveidt's DISSECTION. The album continues with the same excellent execution and craftsmanship, he nails it from beginning to end with utter brilliance. The title tune "The Funeral Pyre" is a good example or the epic "Septem Peccata Mortalia" with its blistering riffs, smashing drums, and the hypnotic melody, a guitar solo that winding itself like a deadly grinding knot. The bombastic "The Wolves Throne" and the midtempo blackish funeral tune "As We Serve The Masters Plan". "Bestial Winter" is a progressive speedy thing that is blackened with Indian Ink, it has some really impressive guitar work, well-hit drum notes and a vocal that is so aggressive that it almost hurts, the melody gleams just as fine as gold on the seabed. To the album closer of the instrumental relaxing beauty "Hymn To Kvaenland" to cool you down a bit before you start it over again. It’s a marvelous debut that would have gotten full pott if points were given, one of the best albums of 2020 so far, make sure to get it.

Sum: I bow and thank you so much for an unbelievably good album.

Mr Björnfot screams with hellish throat "Fire! Fire! Fire, Fucking Fire!” and today's tune "Yee Naaldlooshii" is on fire, enjoy!

Necrophobic - Mark of the Necrogram

Once again a new week and it's time to introduce "Record Of the Week".

The Necrogram has awakened! Dormant for nearly four years, the sigil—crafted by Swedish death metal legends NECROPHOBIC long ago in a crucible of fire and ice—will spread hate, plague, and disease once more in 2018.

“Mark Of The Necrogram” is especially significant as it represents the rebirth of NECROPHOBIC with singer Anders Strokirk returning to the fold, also the guitarists Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergebäck joining the gang again. The guys also changed the record company from Season of Mist to Century Media Records.  This is also the first classic Kristian "Necrolord" Wåhlin cover since 1997’s “Darkside”, and musically offers a prime example how to blend death and black metal in the best possible, most diabolic way.

"Mark of the Necrogram" is a fantastic release from these gents. It's melodic, very catchy and right on the spot, an epic album. 49 minutes of Swedish death metal with bombastic blackened harmonies and never letting down on its primal fury and predatory aggression.

From start to finish the album keeps up all the way, I guess I should say it's a masterpiece, well it is. The album is ridiculous well-balanced, fiery guitar-work by the dream team of shredding, Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergebäck! Penetrating speedy blast-beats by Joakim Sterner crazy and well played basslicks by Alex Friberg and then the powerful and guttural vocals by Anders Strokirk. Tunes like "Sacrosanct", "Tsar Bomba", "Pesta" or "Lamashtu" are just a few proofs why “Mark Of The Necrogram” might become one of 2018’s most celebrated metal records. What more is the to say, than I'm happy!

Sum: Don't dare to miss this one!

Today's tune "Tsar Bomba" is taken from "Record Of The Week", enjoy!

Necrophobic - Blinded by Light, Enlightened by Darkness

Today we present last one, Category Seven:
(Hefty)
taken from the annual hard rock evening.

Well this was a tricky one, should the tune go with the bombastic theme, atmospheric, horns, symphony, orchestra or what? Well if more straight forward style goes hefty then you dont have to much to choose from. "Hrimthursum" is a pretty hefty album by the Swedish blackened death metal band NECROPHOBIC. So why not pick a tune with them and stick out a little bit. So my choice ended with the single from the album "Blinded By Light, Enlightened By Darkness", check out the video below.

Other tunes that was played during this category was.

DIMMU BORGIR "The Serpentine Offering Live" - Chief Rebel (Really Powerful That Have It All)
SOILWORK "Spectrum Of Eternity" - Holm (Great Pick From One of Swedish Finest)
BATUSHKA "Yekteniya I" - PÖbrink (Excellent Choise Of A Powerful Tune)
MARILYN MANASON "Antichrist Superstar" - Hellan (Great Tune From A Classic Manson Album)
KHEMMIS "Candlelight" - MÖbrink (A Real Heavy Pick)
TREMONTI "Radical Change" - Eriksdotter (Odd Choice But A Good Choise)
IN FLAMES "Down In A Hole" - Sandström (Cool And Odd Choice)
PANTERA "Drag The Water" - Sköldan (Great Classic Choice)
IN FLAMES "Only For The Weak" - Jens (Another More Typical Jens Tune)
NECROPHOBIC "Blinded By Light, Enlightened By Darkness" - Stones

(Missing songs from two participants).

Today's tune "Blinded by Light, Enlightened by Darkness", taken from "Hrimthursum", the fifth full-length album by Swedish blackened death metal band NECROPHOBIC. It was released on Regain Records in 2006.

Black Trip - Radar

Black Trip is the new hope along Swedish hard rock, the band is from Stockholm and led by Peter Star Wind, consists of sheer veterans! Peter himself was for many years the drummer of the pioneers of Entombed and has also managed a couple of slices with Murder Squad. In Black Trip he plays guitar and writes all the music. On vocals we find Joseph Tholl (ex Enforcer) on guitar Sebastian Ramstedt (Necrophobic, Nifelheim) on bass Johan Bergbäck (Necrophobic, Nifelheim) and finally on drums Jonas Wikstrand (Enforcer).

'Goin' Under is the band's debut album and it is chock full of classic hard rock inspired from the early 80's NWOBHM and early work with bands like Saxon, Iron Maiden, Scorpions and Thin Lizzy. With melodies in abundance, excellent vocals and superb musicians is the crossover potential is huge, now both Graveyard and Ghost beware!

Todays tune "Radar" is taken from "Goin' Under", enjoy!
