New York Dolls - Trash

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Trash" is the debut single by American hard rock band the NEW YORK DOLLS. It was recorded for their 1973 self-titled album and released as a double A-side with the song "Personality Crisis" in July 1973. "Trash" did not chart upon its release, but has since been hailed by music critics as an anthemic glam rock and proto-punk song. In 2009, the band recorded a reggae-styled remake of the song for their album Cause I Sez So.

"Trash" begins immediately with its chorus, in which lead vocalist David Johansen sings dramatically and implores the song's subject—"my sweet baby"—to not throw her "life away." Journalist and author Phil Strongman interpreted the singer's appeal to his subject as being in the context of a socially deviant New York City: "in under four minutes, it tells a bittersweet'n'sour low-life love story – how does the girl call her lover-boy? 'Trash!' – in majestic trash-Glam style. These people might be hookers, rent boys, junkies, sneak thieves – or so the lyrics imply – but they're still human beings and their subject matter is still tragedy." Johansen quotes the lyric "how do you call your lover boy" from Mickey & Sylvia's 1956 song "Love Is Strange".

According to music critic Robert Christgau, Johansen used ambiguity as a lyrical mode on the song, particularly when the lyric "please don't you ask me if I love you" is followed by "if you don't know what I do", and later by "'Cause I don't know why I do". He replaces the phrase "life" in "Don't take my life away" with "knife", "night", and "lights" when singing the lyric at different times throughout the song. Both Strongman and rock photographer Bob Gruen felt that the other chorus about needing to "pick up" trash gave the song an ecological theme: "Trash, pick it up, don't throw my life away."

"Trash" concludes with a double-beat ending that producer Todd Rundgren embellished with high-pitched background vocals, which were inspired by The Herd's 1968 song "From the Underworld". According to Strongman, "The song's soaring finale suggests that all these problems – chemical, emotional, environmental – might just be overcome by the sheer power of love'n'lust – young rock'n'roll romance, by the passion of young people."

According to Strongman, "Trash" may have been the most "passionate" of all the NEW YORK DOLLS' songs. Music journalist Tony Fletcher later said that, as with "Personality Crisis" and "Jet Boy", the addition of background vocals and piano helped make "Trash" into an anthemic glitter rock song, while Kirk Lake cited it as a proto-punk classic in The Rough Guide to Rock (2003).

The Rolling Stones - Living In A Ghost Town

Today it's the Walpurgis Night (Valborg in Swedish) is best known as the eve of the Christian feast day of Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century abbess in Francia, and is celebrated on the night of 30 April and the day of 1 May. Saint Walpurga was hailed by the Christians of Germany for battling "pest, rabies, COVID-19 and whooping cough, as well as against witchcraft.

So let's hope we are seeing an end of this as this thing really boils down to the lives of musicians, technicians and concert visitors alike. That I am included in this I believe that you have already understood, not a job as far as the eye can reach. Soon it has been a month without a job, of course, I can manage for a while if I keep the money a little and do not stroll around in every record store, flea markets, and online stores. There are some flashes of light in my life in these times, I've spent a lot of time with my family, which is a very important part of my life. We have made every puzzle we own, we have sorted Lego, built a lot of which is incredibly relaxing for the brain and the soul. I have painted a lot, acrylic, watercolor, spray, ink and of course ordinary pencil. But the days get long, especially when you are used to working daily with one or more projects. So hope this misery ends soon so you can return to normal again. Well, I got some positive vibes, it will resolve sooner or later.

You should definitely not feel sorry for me, there are those who have it much worse than me, like THE ROLLING STONES that was in the recording studio working on new music before the COVID-19 lockdown and one particular track they’ve been working on "Living In A Ghost Town", a tune that really resonates with what we’re living through right now.

Reignwolf - Are You Satisfied?

"Are You Satisfied?" is a single with the Canadian indie/blues rock band REIGNWOLF. The single was released 2 August 2013.

Jordan Cook was raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. By age 15, he had a blues rock trio which performed at Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival.

After recording an album under his own name, "Seven Deadly Sins", Cook began recording in Memphis, Tennessee with Matt Chamberlain and SOUNDGARDENs Ben Shepherd. Around 2012, Cook moved to Seattle and adopted the REIGNWOLF moniker. Cook’s first official show under the new name was at The Sunset Tavern in Ballard, Washington, with a new band featuring Joseph Braley and David "Stitch" Rapaport. Cook performs as both a one-man band accompanying his guitar with a kick drum, and with Rapaport and Braley.

REIGNWOLFs single, "Are You Satisfied", plays over the closing credits of the pilot episode of the HBO series, "The Leftovers".

A video clip was released from a rainy festival at Music Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia where REIGNWOLF is performing Are You Satisfied?

Slipknot - Killpop

The American metal band SLIPKNOT is out touring atm, the "Summer's Last Stand Tour" with SLIPKNOT , LAMB OF GOD, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE and MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, see the dates below, they also have released a new video "Killpop" that we choose as Today's Tune!

After the release of .5: The Gray Chapter, Corey Taylor stated that 'Killpop' would be the next song from the album to get a music video. No information about the video was released between the point Taylor said the song would be getting a music video (Circa November 2014) and June 7th, 2015 when the band's official Twitter revealed that the music video would be released on June 8th. The music video switches between footage of the band members and two painted women wandering an abandoned building. Besides being shown playing together, each band member is also shown in their own scene either playing their instrument in an empty room or wandering the abandoned building. The two women are shown mirroring each other's movements and appear in the scenes of some of the band members. Like other SLIPKNOT videos, 'Killpop' was directed by M. Shawn Crahan.

The song leaked two weeks prior to being officially released by the band on October 16, 2014. When officially released by the band, it featured original cover art like the other promotional singles released before it. When WGRD 97.9 asked frontman Corey Taylor about "Killpop", Taylor said:

"You know, what’s funny is over the last few weeks, I’ve really gotten everyone’s interpretation of what that song means to them, and it’s nowhere near what I wrote about. So it’s kind of interesting to hear people’s interpretations of what I’m singing about. And I’ll be honest with you: the song is my reflection on my relationship with music. That’s who the ‘she’ is. And not just music, but the music industry in general. So there’s a love-hate relationship there that really kind of comes into view. There's the old adage, 'Be careful what you wish for,' and, 'Be careful doing what you love, because sometimes it will turn on you.' And, you know, anytime you mix something that you love and business, you're gonna find the rusty cracks in there that piss you off. So that song, really, is about how much I still love making music, but also how much I just hate the business side, the numbers side, the people in the suits who try to run stuff, and having to deal with them and having to learn how to talk to them. And, you know, it's frustrating sometimes, but it is what it is. And luckily, we got a great song out of it, and we were able to really paint something really cool with it and just be able to put it out there for people to dig."

As Loudwire stated "Today, we were exposed to "Killpop", which is arguably the poppiest SLIPKNOT cut from ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’ so far. Vocalist Corey Taylor is very front-and-center throughout the track, as Slipknot’s new mystery drummer takes a step back from his death metal-inspired parts showcased throughout the new album so far." Metal Injection said "Today, the band released their latest single, "Killpop" and this one builds and builds and builds until it gets really heavy. It's definitely one of the standout tracks on the album"

Todays tune "Killpop" is a single taken for their fifth major label studio album .5: The Gray Chapter. The song was first released as a promo/digital single on October 16, 2014. It was the fifth promo and seventh overall single released from the album. The song received a retail single release in April of 2015.

Uncle Acid - Runaway Girls

The British psychedelic doom metal band from Cambridge, "Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats”  have recently released a new single ”Runaway Girls” together with a new video, see below.

Their music is heavily influenced by the late 1960s when heavy metal was emerging. Allmusic praised the band's ability to recreate a particular aspect of this era, describing the band as "celebrating the Summer of Love's soul-chilling autumn: a blasted landscape, post-flower power, resembling Altamont's killing fields, reeking of the Manson Family murders, and, naturally, sounding like a mish-mash of all of the apocalyptic musical forces that converged upon that era.

The band toured internationally during 2013 and 2014, and played at festivals including Roadburn, Download, Hellfest, Roskilde, Bukta Tromsø Open Air Festival, Montreaux Jazz Festival, Øya Festival, Valkhof, Beacons, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Off Festival, and Soundwave. They supported Black Sabbath on sixteen dates of their Reunion Tour in Europe in November and December 2013. After touring in New Zealand, Australia and Europe in early 2014, their schedule for 2014 includes Maryland Deathfest, Nova Rock Festival, Eurockéennes, Copenhell and Pukkelpop festival.

Supralunar - Nine Candles

Supralunar out of Stockholm, Sweden have. The band consisted of Petri Tuulik, vocals and guitar, Andreas Denk, bass and Micke Back, drums. The band quit somewhere around 2005 but in late 2009 they reformed, now with Georgios Vamvatsicos on bass and Johann Enoksson beating the drums.

The band has just released a new video for their latest single, a video that features the most important eras in music the last 50 years, a fun and well-made video.  That I had the privilege to be there and shoot still images was a real experience. The pictures will most likely be released by the band, but a couple I must to show right now :)
