VoiVod - Synchro Anarchy

Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

Four decades, it's a long time of survival, something that few bands can handle. The French Canadians VOIVOD is one of them that continue to put out material that still keeps a high-quality stamp year after year. Amazing and very powerful and yet follow the trail of development from early origins of Punk, via trash path to the more progressive and technical ground where they are atm, a band that always played by their own rules.

"Synchro Anarchy" is the band's 15th studio release and, as fans have come to expect, it is yet is again an incomparable concoction of wild, quirky, and imaginative heaviness. Absolutely wonderful and not a hint of predictability. This record feels very well made, where the band has taken their time to create a proper album without letting go of the reins. Nine tunes that clock in just under fifty minutes.

The album opens up with "Paranormalium" where bizarre riffs and quirky tempos just fall in to the of VOIVOD's trademark. The melodic layers of 70s psychedelia and 80s thrash metal and progressive metal which creates a fun and very enjoyable foundation for Denis "Snake" Bélanger’s nasal vocal who marries in a nice way. The following title tune and "Planet Eaters" continues in the same path of oddly charming and great arrangements which creates a magical flow in the listening nerve. "Mind Clock" opens up with some half paced guitar picks, that slowly build up and the speed incres and the punk attitude winds its way in. The guitar friendly piece "Sleeves Off" has a great groove, partly Scandinavian garage rock mixed up with some MASTEDON progginess. "Holographic Thinking" is a catchy tune with some cool riffing and it's followed by the bass heavy "The World Today" with it's surf-rock vibe gives the album some spice and the bassist Rocky gets the spotlight. The album closes up with "Memory Failure" that wraps up the bag with some heavy riffing and thunderous drums and well written lyrics. "Synchro Anarchy" is a really nice album from the band, well worth the time you will spend with VOIVOD, an album that increase dramatically after each listen. The album was produced by Francis Perron. Released by Century Media Records on February 11th, 2022.

Sum: “Synchro Anarchy” is a great thrashed progressive metal album, get it!

VOïVOD is:
Drums: Michel “Away” Langevin
Voice: Denis “Snake” Belanger
Guitar & backing vocalist: Daniel “Chewy” Mongrain
Bass & backing vocalist: Dominic “Rocky” Laroche

Kreator - Hate Über Alles

The Teutonic thrash metal primordial called KREATOR keeps on spinning. "Hate Über Alles" is the title of the album to be released in 2022, on which KREATOR still presses the gas pedal properly.

"Hate Über Alles" is their first new record since 2017's "Gods Of Violence". The brand new single, title track of the upcoming album was released yesterday with a video, see it below. The new record features artwork by the seemingly ever-present Eliran Kantor (VENOM PRISON, SIGH, THY ART IS MURDER, etc.). "Hate Über Alles" will also be Kreator's first new effort with bassist Frédéric Leclercq (ex-DRAGONFORCE), who joined the band in 2019 and has so far only played on the 2020 single "666 – World Divided."

Enjoy today's tune!

Nervosa - Perpetual Chaos

Tuesday, yesterday it was suppose to be the regular post with "Record Of The Week" and the celebration of the International Women's Day and for us at Tune Of The Day is the Women's Week. But we were interrupted by the terrible news about LG so we decided to move everything one day.

So now the focus are on the Woman's. I think it is important to highlight the females, so we dedicate the whole week to important and talented female abilities. And in the usual order we present the "Record Of The Week" today, a band where the slightly tougher and harder sound that has to break ground, a band that I am next convinced have met at LG on a festival around the world.

The São Paulo thrash metal powerhouse NERVOSA attacks with inexorable full femme power, leaving the world in "Perpetual Chaos". The newly staffed quartet showcases their ability for impetuously feral, pungently sharp riffs and aggressive vocals on 13 massive tracks. The founding member and guitarist Prika Amaral has re-built the band following 2018’s "Downfall Of Mankind". The new line up featuring the talented new members Diva Satanica (BLOODHUNTER) on vocals, Mia Wallace (ABBATH) on bass and Eleni Nota on drums delivers a massive punch of thrash spliced with remarkable death metal assaults. The new line up really have injected the creation with something else than the vaccine, here you will get a adrenaline-packed journey which pulls you by the hair and throws you into the wall.

The vocals from Diva Satanica is freaking powerful and boost the band massive, what a recruit. The bass licks are heavy, a bit anonmys in the mix and the drums are furious and blisteringly fast along with Amaral’s frenetic and brawl-brushed guitar riffings. The basic ground of the band is still intact, but the sound is a bit boosted by the new members and sounds really fresh and more polished in the creation. The fans will not be disappointed, rather the opposite.

Their fourth full-length album, "Perpetual Chaos", builds upon the turbulence, adding diverse musical elements to create an infallible new standout. Guided by a marvelous force of uncompromising thrash and death metal, their raw power has its finger on the pulse of time: lyrically, the four piece does not hesitate to tackle issues that impact the very core of society as we know it. From political grievances and amplifying the voices of minorities to protesting against factory farming, capitalism and succumbing to the ill-informed musings of social elites, these commanding women do not mince words.

Tunes like the lead single and the airtight opener "Venomous" rices the bar on the level the album will follow on, the fast-twitching "Until The Very End" featuring some extra riffing by Guilherme Miranda (ENTOMBED AD, KROW) and "Time To Fight" where their outrage over Brazil during the pandemic is the main theme. On the Slayeresque "Genocidal Command" is featuring German thrash icon Schmier, co-founder of DESTRUCTION. On the tune "Kings Of Domination" where the subject is farming industry and human greed. On the tune "Rebel Soul", featuring FLOTSAM AND JETSAM’s vocalist Eric "Ak" Knutson that gives the tune some classic hardrock vibe. "Until the Very End". Already here they prove that NERVOSA’s revitalized identity experiments with both fresh new elements and crucial auditory foundations without succumbing to any clichés.

All-female Thrash/Death frontrunners NERVOSA stay true to their roots while exploring new terrain on "Perpetual Chaos" On "Perpetual Chaos", the girls has once again joins forces with producer Martin Furia, recognized for producing "Downfall Of Mankind", in addition to working with EVIL INVADERS, SISTERS OF SUFFOCATION, DESTRUCTION, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM. The album was released January 22, 2021 via Napalm Records

Sum: This female quartet delivers a furious onslaught "Perpetual Chaos"

Them - Battle Blood

Thrash metal meets horror/fantasy story is what the German-American act THEM presents in the third part "Return To Hemmersmoor" of the trilogy that was launched back in 2016 on "Sweet Hollow" where the chronicles started the bizarre journey of a man caught between unfortunate circumstance and unspeakable evil. It continued in 2018 with "Manor Of The Se7en Gables". "Return To Hemmersmoor" takes up where the thematic thread of its two predecessors left off and brings the story to a gripping finale, documenting at the same time the band’s unmistakable musical evolvement.

"Possibly the new material is a little tougher and more uncompromising," guitarist Markus Ullrich compares the three recordings. "Being directly involved, we’re too close to really be able to judge. Fact is: the album definitely sounds more mature, which certainly has to do with the songwriting as well as with our general approach. From the start, Them have worked in a very focussed manner according to a definite plan. For that kind of targeted strategy you really need the right line-up consisting of accomplished musicians that are one hundred per cent behind the concept. Them totally fulfils all those conditions."

THEM originally formed in 2008 by vocalist Troy as a KING DIAMOND tribute band, performing for three and a half years with over 20 shows including performances with Mike Wead and Hal Patino from KING DIAMOND. After returning from several other projects, Troy started to create a concept idea in 2014 and moulded a story, band, album and show around it.

Today's tune "Battle Blood" is taken from the new album "Return To Hemmersmoor", released October 30th, 2020, enjoy!

Sodom - Agent Orange

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Agent Orange" is the title tune from the third studio album by German thrash metal band SODOM, released on 1 June 1989 by Steamhammer and SPV.

It was their last album with guitarist Frank Blackfire (who would later join KREATOR) until his return to the band in 2018. The lyrical content delves deeply into Tom Angelripper's fascination with the Vietnam War, with a song dedicated to the ground assault aircraft AC-47 as well as the "Agent Orange" defoliant-inspired title-track. It was their first album to enter the German album charts where it reached number 36. "Agent Orange" sold 100,000 copies in Germany alone and marked the commercial breakthrough for the band. The song "Ausgebombt" was released on the EP Ausgebombt with German lyrics.

The album's liner notes carry the message: "This album is dedicated to all people – soldiers and civilians – who died by senseless aggressions of wars all over the world."

In March 2010, "Agent Orange" was re-released in a digipak with bonus tracks and liner notes containing lyrics and rare photos.

Line up!

Frank Blackfire – guitars

Annihilator - Armed To The Teeth

Canadian Heavy Metal/Thrash Legends ANNIHILATOR released their explosive seventeenth studio album, "Ballistic, Sadistic" on January 24th via Silver Lining Music.

The band’s previously released videos for "I Am Warfare", "Dressed Up For Evil" and "Psycho Ward".

Produced, engineered, and mixed by Waters, "Ballistic, Sadistic" was recorded at the brand new, state of the art, Watersound Studios UK earlier this year with additional engineering and editing by bassist Rich Hinks and mastering by Maor Appelbaum (FAITH NO MORE, HALFORD) at Maor Appelbaum Mastering in California.

"Ballistic, Sadistic" was released in limited-edition digipak, vinyl, and digital formats January 24th, 2020 via Silver Lining Music.

A name that should need no introduction in the metal world, ANNIHILATOR was forged in Canada in late 1984. Since then, the band has been touring and releasing records, selling millions of albums to date, nonstop, for over thirty years. Cited by bands like MEGADETH, PANTERA, DREAM THEATER, CHILDREN OF BODOM, LAMB OF GOD, OPETH, TRIVIUM, and so many more as having an influence on their music, Jeff Waters and ANNIHILATOR have continued to tour the world, year after year, whilst consistently putting out high-quality true-metal music. It takes a long time to reach legendary status, and no one can dispute that ANNIHILATOR is inspirations, teachers, legends, and a force demonstrating what hard work and love of your craft can bring to the world.

ANNIHILATOR are:
Jeff Waters – vocals, guitar
Rich Hinks – bass
Aaron Homma – guitar
Fabio Alessandrini – drums

Founding guitarist, vocalist, producer and principal songwriter Jeff Waters of the track: "Armed To The Teeth" is simply about how one should never judge a book by its cover. If you poke a bear with a stick, abuse or bully someone or treat a living creature with disrespect, be prepared that it might turn around and retaliate, far beyond what you ever thought possible. The retaliation could be ballistic and sadistic. Whether it’s about a music industry jerk bullying an artist or about a kid being bullied on the way home from school; karma will catch up to you and bite you in the face. Someday. Although this is a very heavy and aggressive song, we chose to represent the subject by clips of a teen getting bullied; a serious, common and relevant subject to touch on… and we thought it more appealing than showing this 53-year-old musician taking shit from someone in the music biz!

Today's tune "Armed To The Teeth" is the opening tune on "Ballistic, Sadistic", enjoy the Metal.

Testament - Titans Of Creation

New week, Monsunday, Monday and Sunday at the same time. It's "Annandag påsk" in Swedish (Easter Monday). Quarantine time where inside things get a lot of time to spin records all day long.

Anyway, time to present "Record Of The Week".

"Titans Of Creation" is the thirteenth studio album by American thrash machine band TESTAMENT, released on April 3, 2020. This album marks the first time that TESTAMENT had recorded more than one album with the same lineup since "The Ritual" (1992). "Titans Of Creation" is also the band's first album to be co-produced by Juan Urteaga, who previously worked with TESTAMENTs two studio albums "Dark Roots Of Earth" (2012) and "Brotherhood Of The Snake" (2016).

The cover artwork for "Titans Of Creation" was created by artist and longtime collaborator Eliran Kantor, who has previously worked with ICED EARTH, SODOM, HATEBREED, SOULFLY, and THY ART IS MURDER, among many others.

The thrash legends TESTAMENT continue to bring the pain on "Titans Of Creation", an album that gives us almost one hour of the finest that Bay Area can deliver these days. It's full of energy, precision, adrenaline-filled power, and the experimental desire is nothing but damn impressive. The band sounds really fresh and hungry, the singer Chuck Billy, who is currently recovering from illness in COVID-19, still sounds excellent considering his age and feels as robust as his bulky body sheath. Aging like a fine wine does. Guitar duo Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick's twin guitar harmony are just excellent, shapely riffs. Legendary Gene Hoglan on drums along with Steve DiGiorgio on bass makes a great rhythm duo.

Two singles have been released from the album, the heavy "Night Of The Witch" and the galloping "Children Of The Next Level" which is a very strong opener for the album. Both singles show a modern and fresh TESTAMENT. The album contains some old school thrash like the tunes "WWIII", "Dream Deceiver" and "False Prophet". A bass line opens up a middle eastern metal sound in "Ishtar’s Gate". "City Of Angels" is an oddly mixed pace tune, marvelous rocker that includes a lovely solo. The technical "Symptoms" let these old guys show off a bit and Chuck sings better than ever. "Curse Of Osiris" and the groovy "The Healers" will hit you like a bang, intoxicating riffs and vocals are picked up from the black metal sphere. The album ends with an outro named "Catacombs". TESTAMENT has released a solid album, further establishing themselves as one of the thrash gods and really shows that they are one of the Big 4 even if they are not included, but they should be with such an impressive carrier as they have.

Sum: An impressive release from one of the finest Bay Area Thrashers.

Today's tune is the second single "Children Of The Next Level" taken from "Titans Of Creation", enjoy!

Testament - Powerslave

Thursday, time for a cover.

Today's tune "Powerslave" is the title song from the fifth studio album by the English heavy metal band IRON MAIDEN, released on 3 September 1984 on EMI in Europe and its sister label Capitol Records in North America. It was re-released by Sanctuary/Columbia Records in the United States in 2002.

The album's cover artwork is notable for its Ancient Egypt theme. That theme, taken from the title track, was carried over to the album's supporting tour, the World Slavery Tour. This began in Warsaw, Poland on 9 August 1984; it is widely regarded as being the band's longest and most arduous tour to date, and led to the live album "Live After Death".

"Powerslave" is about an arrogant Pharaoh in his dying hours. Because he's been raised to think he's a god, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain. He also feels overwhelmed by the power of death, and thinks sardonically about his heir. Just before he dies, he promises to return as a mummy. The album cover shows a pyramid with a giant statue of the Pharaoh (reminiscent of the Sphinx), with the bands mascot Eddie as the Pharaoh. The artwork inside the album also carried this theme.

Lead singer Bruce Dickinson wrote this. He claims this is a sequel, or somehow linked to his previous song "Revelations." The back of the album "Somewhere In Time" shows pyramids behind the city in a reference to this.

Cover art designer Derek Riggs once again slipped his logo into his artwork. His logo is a unique symbol which depicts his initials, a mirrored D and an R on the right hand side. In this case, it's right above the "entrance" to the pyramid (Eddie's crotch).

All those years jamming the Maiden, you never realized Tom Cruise was the one who killed the Powerslave. That bastard.

Anyway, today's cover is made by the American thrash metal band TESTAMENT, the tune is taken from the eleventh studio album "Dark Roots Of Earth", enjoy!

Nuclear Assault - Critical Mass

Sunday, time for a classic.

As the recent days have completely been dedicated to the American Thrash Metal I think a classic also fits in nicely.

As one of the most-respected and hardest hitting forerunners of the original thrash metal scene, NUCLEAR ASSAULT have built an impressive and enduring legacy through their time-tested, frenzied metal attack, socially aware lyrics and healthy sense of humor.

Formed in 1985 by guitarist/vocalist John Connelly and bassist Danny Lilker (ANTHRAX, SOD, BRUTAL TRUTH), NUCLEAR ASSAULT became one of the few bands from the Northeastern US to rival the Bay Area thrash domination in the 1980's. Storming out of New York with their 1987 debut "Game Over", the band has created a legacy of work that has stood the test of time. Indeed albums such as "The Plague EP", "Survive" and "Handle With Care" sound as powerful today as when they first hit the streets (and many of Connelly's lyrics are very prophetic considering the world situation in 2005).

Today's tune "Critical Mass" is a tune taken from the third studio album "Handle With Care" released in 1989. This is the band's most successful and best-selling album to date, peaking at number 126 on the Billboard 200, making it their highest position so far. "Critical Mass" was released as a single to promote the album.

"Handle With Care" is a classic record, which is quite obvious in a metalheads album collection.

Anecdotes from "Handle With Care":

The sentence "The svastika is calling you" which is heard at the very end of the song "Torture Tactics", is taken from the movie The Blues Brothers. This sentence is yelled on the megaphone by the head of the Illinois Nazi Party (played by Henry Gibson) during the scene of the bridge. "Torture Tactics" being a very caricatured political song towards Nazis, this sentence is suited, since The Blues Brothers is a caricatured movie too.

Enjoy today's tune!

Death Angel - Immortal Behated

Ascending from the depths, the almighty DEATH ANGEL, one of three mighty American thrashers that are out touring in Europe atm with TESTAMENT and EXODUS.

DEATH ANGEL is an American thrash metal band from Daly City, California, initially active from 1982 to 1991 and again since 2001. DEATH ANGEL has released nine studio albums, two demo tapes, one box set and two live albums. The band has gone through several line-up changes, leaving guitarist Rob Cavestany as the only constant member; he and vocalist Mark Osegueda (who joined the group in 1984) are the only members of DEATH ANGEL to appear on all of their studio albums.

DEATH ANGEL is often referred to as one of the key bands in the Bay Area thrash metal movement of the 1980s, and secured opening slots at club venues that decade, including opening for their peers MEGADETH, METALLICA, SLAYER, EXODUS, TESTAMENT, OVERKILL, D.R.I., MERCYFUL FATE and POSSESSED. They are also often credited as one of the leaders of the second wave of thrash metal movement from the 1980s, and considered to be one of the "big eight" of the genre (along with METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, TESTAMENT, EXODUS and OVERKILL). Following the underground success of their first two studio albums, "The Ultra-Violence" (1987) and "Frolic Through The Park" (1988), DEATH ANGEL signed to Geffen Records in 1989, and released their only album for the label, "Act III", the following year. While they were touring in support of "Act III", then-drummer Andy Galeon was injured in a tour bus accident and needed more than a year to fully recover. This resulted in the band's break up in 1991. However, DEATH ANGEL reformed in 2001 (without original rhythm guitarist Gus Pepa) at the Thrash of the Titans benefit concert for TESTAMENT singer Chuck Billy. The band has since continued to record and perform, and their recent studio album, "Humanicide", was released on May 31, 2019.

Today's tune "Immortal Behated" is taken from the ninth studio album "Humanicide", enjoy!

Exodus - Blood In, Blood Out

2020 is set to be an unforgettable year for British and European thrash metal-heads – three legendary pioneers of the genre have announced that they will be touring throughout next spring. Hitting the road will be no other than the Bay Area’s very own TESTAMENT, EXODUS and DEATH ANGEL – who have all teamed up to bring the catchily dubbed ‘The Bay Strikes Back‘ tour to our shores!

The tour started yesterday in Copenhagen and will go thru Stockholm, Sweden this evening and end in Hannover, Germany on the 11th of Mars, see the rest of the tour below.

Yesterday we had TESTAMENT and today we put focus on EXODUS, guess what we will have for tomorrow?? 😁

TESTAMENT’s Chuck Billy commented:

“It’s finally happening!!!! All of us have spoken over the years of how killer it would be to tour together and bring Bay Area Thrash Metal across the world and we are starting in Europe. I’m sure I can speak for all three bands in saying that we are proud of where we all came from and we are still delivering some of the best thrash metal we can to the fans. Be ready for the Bay Area Strikes Back Tour 2020.”

And Gary Holt from EXODUS:

“I am fired up to FINALLY return to Europe with Exodus! Along with our Bay Area friendsTestament and Death Angel! An epic tour for the ages! Looking forward to crushing everyone Bay Area style! See you there!!! I cannot wait!”

DEATH ANGEL’s Rob Cavestany added:

“We couldn’t be more excited to announce our upcoming tour with Testament andExodus! Bay Area Thrash Attack in full force! All three bands have been close friends for decades and our mutual respect is of the highest level. That said, we will surely push each other to go beyond expectations each and every night. This is a first – the three of us have never toured together in the same package… it’s about time! See you in the pit!”

Both TESTAMENT and EXODUS are currently working on the follow-up to their 2016 (TESTAMENT – "Brotherhood Of The Snake") and 2014 (EXODUS – "Blood In, Blood Out") albums, while DEATH ANGEL will be touring in support of their most recent record, 2019’s "Humanicide".

EXODUS is an American thrash metal band formed in 1979 in Richmond, California. They have gone through numerous lineup changes, two extended hiatuses, and the deaths of two former band members. Their current lineup consists of guitarists Gary Holt and Lee Altus, bassist Jack Gibson, drummer Tom Hunting, and lead vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza. Hunting is one of the original members, and departed from EXODUS twice, in 1989 and 2004, but rejoined in 2007. Holt joined the band about two years after its formation and is the only member of EXODUS to appear on all their releases.

The band is currently writing a follow-up album, tentatively due for release in 2020.

Today's tune "Blood In, Blood Out" is the title track from the tenth studio album by American thrash metal band EXODUS. It was released on October 14, 2014 through Nuclear Blast, and is the band's first album with vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza since 2004's "Tempo Of The Damned". The album also saw a reunion with original guitarist Kirk Hammett, who plays the guitar solo on "Salt the Wound". "Blood In, Blood Out" received generally favorable critical reviews, and it entered the Billboard 200 at number 38—the band's highest U.S. chart position to date. EXODUS promoted the album with its first concert tour with Souza since he left the band in 2004, due to a feud with guitarist Gary Holt.

Testament - Night Of The Witch

The time has arrived for legendary bay area thrash metal giants TESTAMENT to unleash new thunder to the masses and reveal their twelfth studio album: "Titans Of Creation" which will be released on April 3rd via Nuclear Blast.

The first single/lyric video "Night Of The Witch" is released, see and hear it below, the tune uses old school lyrics about witches chanting in the moonlight and casting spells.

Chuck Billy says that the beauty of this song is that I worked in Eric's vocals into the chorus. I wanted to incorporate him as he does DRAGONLORD and this song was a perfect match. It is a heavy song and a great way to introduce everyone to "Titans Of Creation".

The album was produced by Chuck Billy and Eric Peterson while Juan Urteaga of Trident Studios handled co-producing, recording and engineering. Andy Sneap was responsible for the mixing and mastering of the album. Eliran Kantor stepped up once again to create a new masterpiece of artwork for the cover of this release.

Just as the elements of this planet thrive within all living creatures, each musician in TESTAMENT represents a necessary component of this latest musical creation.

The release comes ahead of TESTAMENT s "The Bay Strikes Back European Tour", which will get underway in Copenhagen on February 6 and wrap up in Hanover on March 11. TESTAMENT will be joined on the road by EXODUS and DEATH ANGEL, see all the dates below. Hopefully, I can arrange everything at home and run over and see the show and say hey to the guys.

TESTAMENT is:

Chuck Billy, vocals
Eric Peterson, guitars
Alex Skolnick, lead guitar
Steve DiGiorgio, bass
Gene Hoglan, drums

Power Trip - When Things Go Wrong

The Lower East Side of Manhattan during the late 1980s was a crazy, twisted island of misfit toys. All the kids who were too ugly, too smart, too psychotic, or simply too weird to fit in a world dominated by preppies and guidos found themselves part of the hardcore scene, with CBGB at its epicenter. Astoria's OUTBURST was one of several dozen "second wave" bands who grew up on originators AGNOSTIC FRONT, KRAUT, MURPHY'S LAW and others. Like their friends in LEEWAY, GORILLA BISCUITS, and RAW DEAL - they took elements of crossover metal and fused it with punk rock to create a signature sound.

During their short life, OUTBURST recorded a demo, appeared on two legendary NYHC compilations, and one EP. Nobody in the band thought their music would have any impact beyond what they were living at the time.

The crazy shit is, 30 years later- OUTBURST still matters to a new crop of kids, from all around the world. To celebrate that 30 years, Blackout! Records are re-releasing an ultra-limited, expanded LP edition of their "Miles To Go EP", as well as a limited LP compilation of the best new punk and hardcore bands covering their songs, entitled "Hot Sh!t Attitude". It includes covers from a wide array of bands such as POWER TRIP and HIGHER POWER – both of whom were already covering Outburst in their live sets.

Check out POWER TRIPs version of "When Things Go Wrong", the first track from the upcoming "Hot Sh!t Attitude: The Outburst Covers Record" below.

Since releasing "Nightmare Logic" in 2017, Texas thrashers POWER TRIP have only given us one new song, "Hornet's Nest", and if you're looking for more you'll have to wait a little while longer. A tune that we haven't played yet, maybe it will come later on, the pile of music is pretty high atm :)

The song is the lead track on the forthcoming OUTBURST covers compilation, "Hot Shit Attitude", which will be released on Jan. 31 2020. POWER TRIP take is faithful to the original. With one listen, it's clear that OUTBURST was one of the groups who wielded massive influence over the rising thrash band's hardcore-crossed sound.

Enjoy today's cover!

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Self-Immolate

KING GIZZARD did release two albums during 2019, where their 2nd album entitled "Infest The Rats' Nest", via ATO Records! In complete contrast to the laid back, feel-good vibes of the first release this year "Fishing For Fishies", "Infest The Rats' Nest" is a full-on thrash metal inspired assault and one of the most complex records the band has made in their extensive discography, their 15th album, and counting!

In the words of Stu Mackenzie from the band: “In year 4 there was an older kid who was into RAMMSTEIN. I made friends with him and we put together a performance at our school assembly where we headbanged to "Du Hast". I got whiplash, which I thought was pretty cool. That was my introduction to heavy metal, and soon RAMMSTEIN led to METALLICA, METALLICA led to SLAYER, SLAYER led to KREATOR and SODOM. The German bands really kicked my ass and scared the hell out of me too. Later on, when I picked up a guitar I realized that shit was too hard to play, so I got into rock ‘n’ roll and garage. That was liberating.”

"Infest the Rats' Nest" was composed and recorded mostly with only three of the band's usual seven-man lineup and showcases influences derived from heavy metal, mixing the band's signature garage rock guitar tones and psychedelic rock sounds with thrash metal. The album makes consistent use of double-kick drumming influenced by heavy metal pioneers MOTÖRHEAD. On the album's themes, frontman Stu Mackenzie explained that the A-side is about current problems, especially ecological disaster, and is set in the near future, and the B-side is about the story of a group of rebels attempting to settle on Venus after being forced to leave Earth.

KING GIZZARD & THE LIZZARD WIZARD consists of:

Stu Mackenzie
Joe Walker
Eric Moore
Ambrose Kenny-Smith
Lucas Skinner
Cook Craig
Michael Cavanagh

Today's tune "Self-Immolate" is taken from the new album "Infest The Rats’ Nest" was released 16 August 2019, enjoy!

Metallica - The Four Horsemen

Time to present album number five out of ten of the assignments we got. "Choosing 10 vinyl albums that greatly influenced my taste". One album per day, 10 consecutive days. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. Every day I ask someone else to do the same." Throwing the ball on some nice figure at the social media Facebook.

"Kill 'Em All" the debut studio album by the American heavy metal band METALLICA also made a big impact for the pimply brat who just beginning to get pubic hair. Thrash metal, Speed metal made its appearance in one's life. From here it could go a little anyway, a very exciting time.

Kill 'Em All was released on July 25, 1983, by the independent record label Megaforce Records. "Kill 'Em All" is regarded as a groundbreaking album for thrash metal because of its precise musicianship, which fuses new wave of British heavy metal riffs with hardcore punk tempos. The album's musical approach and lyrics were markedly different from rock's mainstream of the early 1980s and inspired a number of bands who followed in similar manner. The album generated two singles, "Whiplash" and "Jump in the Fire".

METALLICA began by playing shows in local clubs in Los Angeles. They recorded several demos to gain attention from club owners, and eventually relocated to San Francisco to secure the services of bassist Cliff Burton. The group's No Life 'til Leather demo tape (1982) was noticed by Megaforce label head Jon Zazula, who signed them and provided a budget of $15,000 for recording. The album was recorded in May with producer Paul Curcio at the Music America Studios in Rochester, New York. It was originally intended to be titled "Metal Up Your Ass", with cover art featuring a hand clutching a dagger emerging from a toilet bowl. The band was asked to change the name because distributors feared that releasing an album with such an offensive title and artwork would diminish its chances of commercial success. METALLICA promoted the album on the two-month co-headlining "Kill 'Em All" for One tour with English heavy metal band RAVEN in the U.S. Although the initial shipment was 15,000 copies in the U.S., the album sold 60,000 copies worldwide by the end of METALLICAs Seven Dates of Hell European tour in 1984.

Today's tune "The Four Horsemen", the clip is live at The Metro, 1983. Dave Mustaine was an early member of METALLICA , and co-wrote several songs on Kill 'Em All. His erratic and violent behavior led to his expulsion from the band prior to recording the album. Enjoy!
