Graveyard - Peace

Monday, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

"Peace" is the fifth studio album by Swedish hard rock band GRAVEYARD.

After a turbulent time after the previous release "Innocence & Decadence" the band decided to throw in the towel and put the band in hibernation. January 26, 2017, saw the re-opening of the doors of perception as GRAVEYARD announced they were back, but this time without founding drummer Axel Sjöberg that decided he wanted to stay in his new band, so they recruited Oskar Bergenheim as the new drummer.

"Peace" is a like a flowing stream of liquid rock, groovy rhythms, and interesting lyrics. The last album "Innocence & Decadence" was a great album, but "Peace" is something else, the creation vain and the joy to be able to play again shines thru the music and the lyrics, which adds a happy and very bumpy (legs) ride when you let this album loose on the turntable. I really like what I hear, fuzzy tones and straight-forward rock with the characteristic sound GRAVEYARD have.

The album starts with a speedy and very groovy tune "It Ain’t Over Yet", and I scream hell yeah! Tunes like the beauty "See The Day" that is just stunning with bassist Truls Mörck on vocals, he also sings on "Birds Of Paradise". "Cold Love" just melts me like a package of butter in the sun and the drumming is meaty and light at the same time, well played Oscar, a really refreshing recruit! , the first single "Please Don't" is a very riff-heavy piece, that will knock most of the GRAVEYARD fans around the globe. "Walk On" is truly a piece of art, the riffing between Jonatan and Joakim is amazing, the rhythms from the bass licks and the drumming is stunning. The band has really outdone them self here! "Del Manic" is slow bluesy tune wile "A Sign of Peace" is more uptempo, straight ahead rocker. The shortest tune is the Garage rocker "The Fox" to the longest "Low (I Wouldn’t Mind)", album closer with its organ sounding blues-locomotive rhythms that make your heart pump an extra inch every single minute the tune spins. "Peace" is an excellent comback album that is really fun to listen to. The album was produced by Chips Kiesbye.

Sum: GRAVEYARD is back more hungry than ever, and with a new energy in the album "Peace" is something you wouldn't miss.

Today's tune "Please Don't" was the first single from "Peace", enjoy!

Purson - Leaning On A Bear

The England’s PURSON released their debut album "The Circle and the Blur Door", already 2013.

The great and very melodic piece of classic rock is the lead single and today's tune "Leaning On A Bear", see it below.

PURSON is led by enigmatic vocalist/guitarist Rosalie Cunningham which creates a magic vibe with her vocals around the trippy and psychedelic sound that the band puts together.

PURSON is:
Rosalie Cunningham – Vocals, Lead Guitar
George Hudson – Guitars
Samuel Shove – Organ, Mellotron, Wurlitzer
Barnaby Maddick – Bass, BVs
Jack Hobbs – Drums

Todays tune "Leaning on a Bear" is the first single from the "The Circle And The Blue Door", to be released 29th April 2013. The video is directed by Chris Martin and edited by William Cunningham. Rosalie Cunningham states that on the video: “We found this great place in Brixton, South London called Cafe Cairo that looks as though it has been transplanted there from the souk in Marrakesh. It was just perfect for a PURSON video, so we invited some friends along, hung out, and played. Chris Martin shot and edited the video and my brother, William, treated the footage and added the trippy effects”

Horisont - About Time

Monday, New Week, time to present "Record Of The Week"

"About Time" is the fifth album from the Swedes in HORISONT.

Formed in 2006, HORISONT have spent close to a decade kicking ass, taking names and establishing themselves at the forefront of the Scandinavian retro rock revival (see also WITCHCRAFT, GRAVEYARD etc), injecting their sound with early-STATUS QUO-styled boogie blues, prog complexities, NWOBHM swagger and fire-spitting choruses set to scorch the eyebrows of the first ten rows. This is music made without irony, unafraid to acknowledge an allegiance to past greats such as DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, CACTUS, THIN LIZZY, the aforementioned YES and JUDAS PRIEST.

"About Time" is like a bag of sweet candy canes of nostalgia, a sound that harks back to the dawn of the 70s, when a new clutch of heads decided it was time to harsh the 60s hippies’ mellow and paint it black; those years when the twin spirit of hard rock and prog rose to redefine sound. "About Time" is not unique, it will not give you anything that is fresh or new thinking in anyway, it will give you something that is already made, something you surly already have heard more than once, but HORISONT will give you one hell of a journey true the classics in their own way, something that in my ears is freaking good even if it's recycled material.

The album is well produced and really well played, a fun record to listen to, me like. "About Time" clocks in at 37 minutes, 10 tunes that swings in many directions, the album starts with "The Hive", a smooth melodic harmony until it accelerate, like when you drive in rush hour, back and forth. "Electrical" is a guitar driven tune with a great hook, "Without Warning" have a great old school stomp, "Letare", is done in a native language (Swedish), reminds me of the classic band NOVEMBER, great tune about digging gold. "Night Line" is a classic STATUS QUO boogie, with NWOBHM riffs, "Point of Return" takes a more progressive turn, like a you squeeze KING CRIMSON with a CACTUS, excellent melodic tune, "Boston Gold" have an american radio rock touch from the 80's, like Ace Frehely is playing guitar here, cool stomper. "Hungry Love" & "Dark Sides" follows the duel guitars, classic and elegant hard rock riffs with great vocals. The album closes up with the title track, a real HORISONT beauty. A well made album guys.

Sum: It's "About Time" you get this!

The LP will be available in the following vinyl colors:

Black vinyl – unlimited Lilac vinyl – limited to 200 copies / exclusively at Bengans
Clear vinyl – limited to 100 copies / exclusively at CMDistro
Silver vinyl – limited to 200 copies / exclusively at Green Hell
Transparent Green vinyl – limited to 200 copies / exclusively at Nuclear Blast
Yellow vinyl – limited to 300 copies / US only

The fabulous artwork for ”About Time” is once again crafted by the wizard of art himself – Henrik Jacobson, who also did the ”Odyssey” artwork. Henrik has managed to capture the concept of the album and title in a brilliant HORISONT way. The band couldn’t be happier with the result and it's awsome!

Today's tune is the title track from "About Time", enjoy! "About Time was released February 3rd 2017

Mountain Witch - Snake Wand

MOUNTAIN WITCH from Hamburg, Germany plays classic hard rock, the music is like a sizeable slab of heavy desert rock and extended stoner jams.

A band that initially formed as an instrumental project by guitarist Rene Sitte and drummer Rene Roggmann, after entering the studio in the summer of 2009 the Hamburg duo emerged with a recording of what would later become MOUNTAIN WITCHs debut album Scythe & Dead Horse.

Since then MOUNTAIN WITCH has not only recruited a third member in bass player Tobert Knopp, they have returned with a more focused and ambitious sound on their follow up album Cold River. Their first release on This Charming Man Records while that loose and low slung spirit of Scythe… still remains, it’s now strengthened by an unmistakable 70s psych rock majesty. With vintage tones and killer riffs reminiscent of early SABBATH, their new direction also takes in the boogie of BLUE CHEER, ballsy strut of DEEP PURPLE and the total ambition of PINK FLOYD. A sound that doesn’t shy away from its hard rock roots and at the same time doesn’t stop long enough to rest on them.

Today's tune "Snake Wand" is taken from the second album "Cold River".

Kadavar - Reich Der Träume

Reich der Träume (German, "Realm of Dreams") is an obscure bonus track taken from the third studio album "Berlin" by German rock band KADAVAR, released on 21 August 2015. It was the first album to fully feature new bassist Simon Bouteloup.

Together with long-time friend and collaborator Nathini van der Meer (http://nathinivandermeer.com), who has created artwork and videos for them in the past, they are working on their first "Visual Album"- 12 short films accompanying each of the albums' songs, to be released once a month throughout the entirety of the year.

Commented the band: "The song was originally written for Nico by Lutz Graf (LÜÜL), known for his work with bands like ASH RA TEMPEL, AGITATION FREE or 17 HIPPIES. It is the first song Lupus sings German on. We liked the heavy mood of the song. Within the music as well as in the lyrics. It's one of the most beautiful Nico songs which unfortunately was barely recognized until now. We were very proud when we got LÜÜL's blessing to cover the song." The Video was directed, edited & filmed by Nathini van der Meer.

Today's KADAVAR unofficial cover art (Garden Of Bones) for "Reich Der Träume" is made arkadenstrike.tumblr.com

Graveyard - Too Much Is Not Enough

Monday, new week, time to introduce the "Record Of The Week".

The Swedish rockers GRAVEYARD chose my birthday (September 25th) to release their fourth full-length effort, "Innocence & Decadence". Nice of them to think of me, although I honestly do not think it was my birthday that was behind the date for this fall release even if I would like it to be so. Let's say that's the case with this release. Enough about the ego trip.

”Somewhere between Innocence & Decadence is where you´ll find GRAVEYARD. Hard at work trying to figure out which apples that will fall from what tree. Can you see us? We´re that little hopeless case of a fly in denial – since forever stuck between the piles of shit that your ever repeating life keeps lining up for you”

GRAVEYARD have been delivering excellent fuzz-soaked, blues retro sound across three full-length albums over the years. The 4th album "Innocence & Decadence" continues where they left last time, but with a more grown up attitude, it swings with a big soul and have a groove that shuffles in all the corners among the classic rock vein.

Just after the first spin you will hear immediately that this is not a rush job, but an well thought out record, made with heart, sweat and synchronized desires. All members have made their marks on "Innocence & Decadence". The vocal parts where we hear Joakim Nilsson's very characteristic voice in the center shows no weakness at all, he sounds great. Even the return of Truls Mörck who takes place behind the microphone in the song "From A Hole In A Wall" where he does it with style and creates a small protrusion on the album. The music steps a bit back to the late ’60s in the more pop-leaning tunes. Jonatan Ramm's riffs are cleaver and innovative, yet old.

The album starts with a psyched-out killer opener "Magnetic Shunk" to the soulful sleeping bare skin ballad of closer "Stay For A Song". In between we have classic GRAVEYARD material like "The Apple In The Tree", "Never Thiers To Sell" and the psychedelic "Hard-Heeded". The album got a few soulful ballads like the amazing "Exit 97" and the lovely stand out tune "Too Much Is Not Enough". The two last songs are pretty slow bluesy things. This album is infused with Joakim Nilsson's skills and the beauty of Jonatan Ramm's riffs. "Innocence & Decadence" reflecting perfectly the versatility of their songwriting. The album hooks me and I catch my self smiling, hey, they did it again!!

With "Innocence & Decadence" the band explores new territories - without getting lost. It's a bloody well-made music!

"Innocence & Decadence" has been recorded in the Atlantis Studios in Stockholm (Sweden) alongside both Janne Hansson and Johan Lindström.

Today's tune "Too Much Is Not Enough" is taken from "Innocence & Decadence". This tune is the most stand out song they have produced so far and I just love it. It's a really soulful piece that touches you deep.

Kadavar - The Old Man

The German psychedelic rock band KADAVAR have released their third studio album "Berlin". This is the first album fully featuring new bassist Simon Bouteloup as founding members Lindemann and Bartelt continue to feature.

The bonus track on this album is a cover of Nico's Reich der Träume. The band will go on a European tour throughout November and December to promote the album.

The record was released on 21 August 2015 with a vinyl record of four versions.

After working for four months in the studio, the band finalized the production process of the new album on 1 June, according to their facebook page.

Drummer and producer Christoph "Tiger" Bartelt commented the following:

"About ten years ago, when we - independently of one another - moved to Berlin, we just wanted to break free from home and do something new. I thought it was comfortable, to blend in and just live from day to day. A lot of very long nights and so many completely different people at one place. Where there are opposites you can always ground yourself. We’re all different, come from different places but have managed to create something together we all like. I think the Berlin lifestyle has influenced our band very much and therefore fits perfectly as the album’s title."

The eleventh track of the record 'Into The Night' was chosen by pro skater Riley Hawk in his compilation album Riley Hawk: Northwest Blow Out EP presented by Scion AV.

The band, who were founded in Berlin, 2010, show attributes of both psychedelic rock and stoner rock in their music. They are considered retro rock due to their sound being described as similar to bands of the 70s hard rock/heavy metal era. KADAVAR currently consists of three members.

Today's tune "The Old Man" is taken from the album "Berlin"

Graveyard - The Apple And The Tree

Innocence & Decadence is the title of the upcoming 4:th album with GRAVEYARD and it will see the light of day on September 25th!

A band that knows no borders and no limitations at all. Their unique sound, which includes all rock styles, pulls GRAVEYARD out of the masses. Classic rock, blues, jazz, folk - no matter how you call it - the quartet always sounds authentic.

With their big influence of very different genres, GRAVEYARD always remain at the top of what they do - give the listener a wide range of emotions, moods and feelings. Black Sabbath meets Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin meets Janis Joplin ... it could go on longer and longer... If some other bands are considered only for their neo-satanistic attitude or are interested in the rebirth of the old school, GRAVEYARD plays breathtaking melodies, that bring us to a trip into a lost century of true musicality.

After the success of "Hisingen Blues" in 2011, their debut-album "Graveyard" was re-released in the same year.

Just one year later, and the following album "Lights Out" came out, reflecting perfectly the versatility of their songwriting. This album, full of social criticism, is infused with Joakim Nilsson's skills and the beauty of Jonatan Ramm's riffs.

"Innocence & Decadence" has been recorded in the Atlantis Studios in Stockholm (Sweden) alongside both Janne Hansson and Johan Lindström.

The new material will be played live on following places:

16/10 - KB, Malmö
17/10 - Münchenbryggeriet, Stockholm
23/10 - Pustervik, Göteborg

GRAVEYARD lineup 2015:

Joakim Nilsson – Guitar & Vocals
Jonathan Ramm – Guitar
Truls Mörck – Bass
Axel Sjöberg - Drums

Todays tune "The Apple And The Tree" is taken from GRAVEYARD's 4th Studio Album "Innocence & Decadence" set to release on my birthday :)

Luciferian Light Orchestra - Church of Carmel

New week, time to crown this weeks "Record of The Week".

LUCIFERIAN LIGHT ORCHESTRA is a project by Christofer Johnsson from THERION. LUCIFERIAN LIGHT ORCHESTRA playing a passionate occult rock wrapped in a vintage spirit. It is composed of songs written by founder Christofer Johnsson over many years that he considered too vintage sounding for THERION. As his songwriting trademark is in the compositions, it sounds like a vintage version of THERION, without orchestra and opera vocals. Christofer always had a big passion for the 70’s music. LUCIFERIAN LIGHT ORCHESTRA is mainly inspired by the 70’s occult vibes and themes. The self-titled album is recorded by Christofer at Adulruna Studio and mixed in a retro 70s fashion by Lennart Östlund, who has previously worked with bands like ABBA and LED ZEPPELIN, at Polar Studios. The album was released in Europe on April 30, 2015.

The album have a real magical feeling. It combines classic hard rock and psychedelic elements from the 70's. The album is like a religious trip where the music and lyrical themes almost enthral you as listener. It has an magnificent combination of female vocals that is breathing satanic hymns with the male vocals that falls in between like the devil himself. The riffs are cleaver and suits the melody as a glow and create an musical pleasure that you can't stop listen to, I just love this. Even if this reminiscent much of THERION, I must say that I like this more.

The production level is really high and not to slick. I really would like to hear this on Vinyl (Analogue version of course) that I believe would sound amazing.

Found some pretty cool facts about this album.

Christofer Johnsson is playing guitar, hammond organ, keyboards and backing vocals. Mina Karadzic on backing vocals. Besides this there were 2 drummers, 1 bass player, 5 guitarists, 2 keyboard players, 3 hammond organists and 9 singers involved!

To summarize this album:

Can only lift my hat and give a grand applause to Christoffer Johnson for an Excellent record. You need this!

The album is so far only released as CD and Digital version. Hopefully a analogue Vinyl version will see the light.

This nice digipak with gold print is a limited edition (1000 copies) with a coloured plastic CD disc.

Todays tune "Church of Carmel" is taken from LUCIFERIAN LIGHT ORCHESTRA self titled début, enjoy!.

Spiders - Shake Electric

Monday, which means it's time to introduce this week's "Record Of The Week"

"Shake Electric" is the second album release from the Swedish, heady four piece rock band "Spiders"

Spiders have a classic retro sound. Musically it’s fast heavy hard garage rock with a strong 70's feel with a modern twist.

Spiders retained its rawness and glorious messiness from the debut album. "Shake Electric" is a great record that is wrapped around with some great powerful vocals from Ann-Sofie Hoyles along with some meaty and catchy riffs. The songs are at high-quality and excellent performed. They have delivered a really enjoyable set of classic songs with the vintage sounds that will suit most of the rockers out there.

A perfect Christmas gift for all the rockers of classic rock from the 70's.

Spiders was formed in Gothenburg in February 2010. A few months later the band appeared at one of Sweden’s most successful music festivals, Way Out West. It was around this time SPIDERS for the first time as a band stepped into the studio with producer Don Ahlsterberg (The Soundtrack of Our Lives, International Noise Conspiracy) and started recording.

By the end of January 2011 Spiders released their debut record, a 10” vinyl EP on Crusher Records containing four tracks. The self-titled release was very well received and noticed in Record Collector as well airplayed on Sweden’s largest radio channel P3. In March 2011 those four previously released tracks came to be released in the USA as two separate 7” singles, one on Kemado Records the other on Valley King Records, the latter with an artwork made by well-known artist Alan Forbes.

Around this time drummer Axel Sjöberg, former drummer, left Spiders to work full time on Graveyard and came to be replaced by Ricard Harryson. In May 2011 Spiders stepped into the studio for the second time recording a two track single to be released on vinyl by De:Nihil Records in August and digital by Crusher Records in September.

In June 2012 Spiders began recording songs for their debut album. In early October the very same year the album, entitled “Flash Point”, was released. The album immediately reached the Sverigetopplistan, the Swedish Sales Charts of most sold albums. In November and December SPIDERS went on European tour together with Graveyard. By the end of the same year SPIDERS’ debut album was nominated by P3 Gold (Swedish Radio Award) for best Rock/Metal of the Year.

In 2013 the band appeared on Sweden Rock Festival, toured Scandinavia, Spain and Portugal. In 2014 SPIDERS supported Kvelertak in Scandinavia and Blood Ceremony throughout Europe. On May 27th they release the new single “Mad Dog” on Reaktor Recordings / Universal Music.

Spiders are:

Ann-Sofie Hoyles – vocals
John Hoyles – guitar
Olle Griphammar – bass
Ricard Harryson – drums

Todays tune is the title track from the second album "Shake Electric", enjoy!

Corrosion of Conformity - On Your Way

”IX” is the title of the ninth album with Corrosion of Conformity and On Your Way is the title of todays tune. Simple as that, well...

...IX is more back to the roots with the groove-heavy riffing and 70's boogie that made the band famous.

The Vinyl Edition of IX

Corrosion of Conformity (also known as C.O.C.) is an American heavy metal band from Raleigh, North Carolina formed in 1982. For almost the majority of its existence, the band has consisted of guitarist Woody Weatherman, bassist Mike Dean (who left in 1987 but rejoined six years later), drummer Reed Mullin (who left in 2001 but rejoined nine years later) and vocalist and rhythm guitarist Pepper Keenan (who joined the band in 1989). After a hiatus in 2006, Corrosion of Conformity returned in 2010, without Keenan who is currently in Down (although it has been disputed whether Keenan has left the band).
To date, Corrosion of Conformity has released nine studio albums, two EPs, one compilation, and one live album. Their first three studio albums ― Eye for an Eye (1984), Animosity (1985) and Blind (1991) ― attracted the attention of Columbia Records, who signed the band in 1993. Corrosion of Conformity found success with the release of their 1994 fourth studio album, Deliverance, which spawned the hits "Albatross" and "Clean My Wounds". Their 1996 follow-up Wiseblood was also successful, and became Corrosion of Conformity's highest-charting album in the United States. Corrosion of Confirmity released the ninth album "IX" on July 1, 2014.

Todays tune "On Your Way" is as retro as it can be of the new tunes on ”IX”, enjoy.

The Vintage Caravan - Expand Your Mind

Well, now we have reach the end of this year and it's time for the last tune to be played here at Tune Of The Day for 2013. We look forward to 2014 and a really nice music year.

One of the upcoming bands might be this young band, hailing from the Greater Reykjavik area. The Vintage Caravan was originally founded around 2006 when the band members were very young. However, it did not become a serious project until 2009.

The Vintage Caravan are known for their energetic stage performance and have been very active live for the past few years. Since 2011 the band has released two LPs with the latter being released by one of the largest record labels in Iceland, Sena which they made a deal with in early 2012. That same year bassist Alex Örn joined the group.

Musical influences are very diverse but mainly include the classic hard rock of the 60's and 70's. Though the influence may suggest a glorified retro-type band, The Vintage Caravan do it in their own way with a powerful attitude and a modern twist.

Todays tune "Expand Your Mind" is taken from the album "Voyage", that will be released on Jan. 10th (EU), Jan. 13th (UK) and January 21, 2014 (NA) via Nuclear Blast Records.
