Johnossi - Mad Gone Wild

Monday, new week, it's time for us to introduce the "Record Of The Week".

"Mad Gone Wild" is the seventh studio album by the Swedish duo JOHNOSSI since the formation of 2006, this Stockholm-based duo consists of guitarist/vocalist John Englebert and drummer Ossi Bonde.

A band that always has had a great blend between rock and pop and got the eye and feeling to create catchy and mesmerizing tunes. On "Mad Gone Wild" they continue on the path they created fifteen years ago, but they take out the turns a little more, dares, and tries to create something new and interesting, something I think they succeed with well as here the tunes are both raucous and rousing, spacey and very energetic, catchy and electronic. On this record, the duo has dug deep into their own psyches and imaginations to realize something part-concept album, part catharsis, and entirely exhilarating and hypnotic. "Is there an exact point where reason turns into madness?" is one of the questions they brought with them during the creation process. "Are we not all completely insane in our very own unique way?" is another. Drawing on influences and inspiration from thier own periods of depression and anxiety, including Franz Kafka’s "Metamorphosis" and Scorcese’s "Taxi Driver", and Joaquin Phoenix in the role of Joker. The character Roscoe who appeared a bit here and has been in the duo's music since 2010 is also returning.

"Mad Gone Wild" is a dark piece to dig into, raw and still so haunting something that flows over all eleven tracks. The record has a great feeling and atmosphere that sounds refreshing, even if it sometimes results in some songs blending into each other and passing unnoticed. The lyrics are deep with a big heart and when the pace slows down and the words come out very powerful and tunes really hit hard. As in the title tune "Mad Gone Wild" or in the ending "Screaming". There are a few other tracks that need to be noticed like opening punk rocker "Give Me The Knife", the noise rocker "Something = Nothing", the garage rocker "Yeah Yeah", which has a great piano part that is led by their third and new member Mathias Franzen, who get some great space in the short instrumental interlude "Wizards Of Os". The new wave tune and the second single "Koala Before The Storm", is a really powerful tune. and the straight-ahead noise-punk of opener and paean to knife-play and three-day-benders ‘Give Me The Knife’. "A Passenger" tickles every time thanks to its rhythmically interesting arrangement. Overall JOHNOSSI have created another great album that will get some spins over here and I recomend that you let this record loose on your turntable aswell.

Today's tune "Give Me The Knife" is taken from "Mad Gone Wild", enjoy!

Johnossi - Eld // Ljus

"Eld // Ljus" is the new single by the Swedish duo JOHNOSSI, it's the very first time in their long career, they are releasing a song in the Swedish language. It’s a new take on their "Torch // Flame" tune called "Eld // Ljus".

As JOHNOSSI comment the tune: "It feels both exciting and strange at the same time. We have been a band since 2003. Six albums. All in English. Writing and singing in English has always been the most natural thing for me (John). I suppose it's because when I was a child I listened almost exclusively to English-language artists and it was through them that I formed my own musical expression. It is extremely rare that I even consider writing and singing in Swedish throughout the years. But something happened at Christmas. I (John) listened to our, when not yet released, song "Torch // Flame" and suddenly some sentences in Swedish came to me.

Hmm, interesting I thought and paused the song. I took out my guitar, played "Torch // Flame" and started singing the sentences that had just come to me. It felt good, so I was looking for more images to put words into, and thankfully it just kept coming in a steady flow. I recorded my voice memo and after a while, I had written my first lyrics in Swedish ever. I secretly recorded it in the studio and eventually presented it to the others. In principle, we decided directly that it deserved to be released. So it is not a direct translation of the English lyric, it is a completely standalone Swedish version. So. Here it is. We call it "Eld // Ljus"."

JOHNOSSI is a rock duo from Saltsjöbaden, Stockholm County, Sweden, consisting of songwriter, singer, guitarist John Engelbert and drummer, percussionist, singer Oskar "Ossi" Bonde.

Their music is characterized by a full guitar sound supported by Engelbert's unorthodox guitar rig and myriad effects pedals, and Bonde's straightforward beats; studio releases often feature colorful percussion accents on instruments such as tambourine, woodblock, guiro, and chimes. A variety of musical styles appear in their work, from hard rock, to blues riffs, post-punk, and even gloom-pop, though lyrical themes are almost uniformly personal and slightly angsty.

Here is the Swedish lyrics so you can sing along :)

Knoppar brister in
Ett akneärr på din kind
Jag blev kvar till slut
Nu när jag hittat vägen ut

Så börjar allting om igen
En pöl av blod rinner mot himmelen
När isen spricker är vi där
Faller hejdlöst mot jordens atmosfär

En CP-skadad man
söker kärlekens famn
Va e ditt problem
Vår lycka är ett evigt sken

Jag är en eld du är ett ljus
Gömmer mig här långt bort från vindens sus
Så börjar allting om igen
En pöl av blod rinner mot himmelen

En ensam kvinnas tidsfördriv
En samling män, ett trött maskineri
Men varför kämpa tills vi dör
Om allt ändå nu redan har upphört

Jag är en eld du är ett ljus
Gömmer mig här långt bort från vindens sus
Så börjar allting om igen
En pöl av blod rinner mot himmelen

Enjoy today's tune "Eld // Ljus"!

Johnossi - Air Is Free

After three and a half years since the last album release with the rock duo JOHNOSSI, now they are back, stronger than ever. The new single "Air Is Free" released a few days ago and in March the band goes on tour. For over a decade, JOHNOSSI attracted fans to lose themselfs in their musical universe. A band that refuses to stand still. The new bombastic single "Air Is Free" still have the base of the guitar and drums but expands their sound including wind instrument, female choir and a modern production. The friends of the Swedish producer team Asthma & Rocwell (also in the band NONONO) JOHNOSSIs shared vision and sat in the chair as the producer. Fully aware that they have never produced a rock band they were determined to keep the band's musical core, but dress it in a new modern sound suit.

Today's tune "Air Is Free" thunders with the sound in the venue size and the first sample and the start of what is to come later in the fall. JOHNOSSI released an EP on 8 November "Air Is Free" as the title track. The band's fifth album will be released in the beginning of 2017.

Royal Blood - Royal Blood

Number 6 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year 2014 is the British brash-rock duo "Royal Blood" that kicks us in the ass with the self titled début album.

Royal Blood with their mixture of anguished cocky vocals, vigorous drumming and bass of chugging menace. A tight bind of rhythm and noise that will kick you off your hard wooden chair! Royal Blood have made a very fresh and inventive album that works all the way from beginning to end. This is a fantastic record that is definitely worth to add to your collection.

On the 23rd of Mars next year these duo will play at Debaser Medis, Stockholm, Sweden. A show that I am almost certain it will be sold out, if it's not already.

Todays tune "Figure It Out" is taken from Royal Blood's self titled debut.

Royal Blood - Ten Tonne Skeleton

New week, which means it's time to present this week's "Record Of The Week"

The British brash-rock duo "Royal Blood" hits us in the face with the self titled début album.

The thing with the guitar and drums duo, is something we have learned to understand nowadays. Bands like The White Stripes got a big success with their duo, likewise with Swedish Johnossi. This Brighton duo makes it even heavier by changing the guitar against a bass guitar, but Mike Kerr choose to treat it as a guitar most of the time.

So how does it sounds then?, well the "Guitar" is a bit heavier than normal, but sounds amazing and very noisy :) and is nothing that usually comes out from a bass guitar. The skin-pounding beating is made by Ben Thatcher, who really know how to treat the drums. The band's sound is reminiscent of and rooted in modern garage rock and blues rock. If I should make some comparisons to something I could say that I hear some shades of Queens Of The Stone Age and The White Stripes and some early rock 70's stuff like Led Zeppelin.

The album is a mixture of anguished cocky vocals, vigorous drumming and bass of chugging menace. A tight bind of rhythm and noise that will kick you off your hard wooden chair! Royal Blood have made a very fresh and inventive album that works all the way from beginning to end. This is a fantastic record that is definitely worth to add to your collection.

The band, composed of bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher, was formed in Worthing in 2013, and played their first gig a mere two days after Kerr's return to England from his "working holiday" in Australia. During the summer of 2013, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders was seen wearing a shirt supporting the band (before the release of their first single) during their Glastonbury Festival concert in July. On 11 November 2013, the duo released their debut single, "Out of the Black", which came with a B-side called "Come On Over".

In November 2013, it was announced that Royal Blood would be supporting Arctic Monkeys for two Finsbury Park shows in May 2014. In December 2013 Royal Blood were nominated for the BBC Sound of 2014.

Royal Blood released their second single, "Little Monster", on 11 February 2014. The band also released a four-track EP, featuring "Out of the Black", "Little Monster", "Come On Over" and "Hole" on 11 March 2014 in North America. Their debut album, Royal Blood, was released on 25 August 2014 to commercial success & was well-received by critics. Royal Blood was verified by the Official Charts Company as the fastest-selling British rock debut album in three years in the UK.

Royal Blood performed at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas in March 2014; at Liverpool Sound City festival and at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Glasgow in May; and at Download Festival and Glastonbury Festival in June. They performed at T in the Park festival in July, and at Reading festival as well as Osheaga in August 2014.

Mike Kerr has previously used the name Royal Blood when living in Australia in 2012, working with drummer Matt Swan.

A video clip for "Out of the Black" entered rotation as part of cable network AXN Japan's "AXN Tunes" program in October 2014; music videos aired on-the-hour as filler in between regularly scheduled, syndicated programming.

In October 2014, Royal Blood announced details of their biggest European tour to date, starting in Germany on 10 January, and ending in Sweden on 23 March.
