Bombus - Abomination Rock'n'Roll

In July came a little sneaky release, a new song and video with the Swedish punk/metal band BOMBUS.

"Abomination Rock’n’Roll" is the new tune where the typical BOMBUS sound is intact with some punkish attitude, a rocker that could wake any sleeping party. So happy to hear that they are back.

“’Abomination Rock’n’Roll’ is a nugget for fans of Punk Rock Metal. It’s the first out of the two tracks we release this summer. Enjoy! And remember, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Or so they say.“

Another tune was released a couple of days ago, we will play it during next week, Stay tuned!

BOMBUS are:
Feffe – Guitar/Vocals
Peter – Drums
Simon – Guitar
Johan – Guitar/Vocals
Ola – Bass

Enjoy today's tune "Abomination Rock'n'Roll" with BOMBUS!

Horndal - Häng Honom

The sludgy hardcore/metal Swedish band HORNDAL finds it's way to tune of the day. The band has their roots in a small industrial town in the Swedish woods with the same name is the band – Horndal. A place with a gruesome story to tell.

In the late seventies, the steel mill that employed almost the whole population was threatened with termination. To protest against this a theatre group, including the parents of the band’s singer and drummer, wrote and set up a play about this disastrous event. The plot depicts the devil (played by their father) coming to the town to shut down the steel mill, leave the exploited workers to their fate and send the whole community to an early grave. Sadly the story came true. The factory was closed and the town was left for dead. The band translated the play and made into their lyrics.

The story is told on the band's debut album "Remains" where we find today's tune "Häng Honom" (Hang Him). The album was released February 22, 2019. Mixed and Mastered by Karl Daniel Lidén
Artwork by King Raya.

HORNDAL is:
Henrik – Vocals, guitars
Pontus - Drums
Fredrik - Guitars
Erik - Bass

Driving rhythms in an excellent forward-thinking way, enjoy!

Upcoming tourdates:

Nov 29 - Hus 7 - Slakthusområdet, Stockholm, Sweden
Jan 24 - Debaser Strand, Stockholm, Sweden (with BOMBUS)
Jan 25 - Pustervik, Gotenburg, Sweden (with BOMBUS)

Bombus - Vulture Culture

As civilization crumbles, everyone needs to find a good party at the end of the world. Loud, proud, bombastic and belligerent, Swedish metal crew BOMBUS have been raging against the dying of mankind’s light for the last decade, a consistent and reliable force for massive riffs and even bigger choruses, wielding enough fire and fury to power a fleet of Death Stars.

That "Vulture Culture" with BOMBUS step up the ladder and grabs the banner "Record Of The Week" is nothing strange, but it's a fact after having released such a melodic gem like this.

Gothenburg's fourth album "Vulture Culture" where the human decay and the impending doom of the planet are in focus. Heavy subject indeed, but BOMBUS with their clever craftsmanship, they manage to make the album interesting and with enough melodic swing in the tunes they keep up the party feeling. It is simply another in the line of high-quality rock albums to fall in love with and develop a robust relationship within the long run.

Compared to its predecessors, "Vulture Culture" does not represent a significant development from the predecessor "Repeat Until Death" and "The Poet & The Parrot", it feels somehow more uplifting and fresh, more up to date so to speak. It lands on the records store disks in perfect time, a record that you need right now even if you didn't know that until you read these lines, but hey now you do. It's perfect to party with when the doomsday is here.

From the brilliant opening tune "A Ladder – Not A Shovel", heavy guitar riffs, cutting melody, punkish vocals that kicks your buttocks... it flows forward like a tank in the middle of the night, with just over four minutes rampaging, the trip takes an unexpected turn outside of its normal comfort zone. To the uplifting anthem "(You Are All Just) Human Beings", delivered with maximum passion and punch that will dig deep into your skull like a true ear-worm do. Same goes with "In The Shadows", high tempo, chugging guitars riffs, groovy vocals and a melody that get stuck like a piece of gum in your forehead. The melodic bouncing one "Mama", great lyrics and the unexpected outro with the children chanting "Do What Your Mama Said", I can just agree. "We Lost A lot Of Blood Today", "Feeling Is Believing" and the title tune "Vulture Culture" are bombastic mid-pace pieces with massive sounds, groovy melody, and heavy riffing, screamy vocals. "It’s All Over" shows the band's other side with a clean and quiet way of delivery with such a passionate singing that makes me completely kneeled. On "Two Wolves And One Sheep" you will hear the band standing on one leg until they shift to the other and back again, balancing the more extreme moments that show up a new side of BOMBUS. The attraction to "Vulture culture" is immediate and I'm happy that they manage to pull this one off with such great quality.

The album was recorded with producer Daniel Johansson and mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA, AT THE GATES). The album was released on the 15th of November.

BOMBUS are:

Feffe (Guitar & Vocals)
Matte (Guitar & Vocals)
Simon (Guitar)
Peter (Drums)
 Ola (Bass)

Sum: "Vulture Culture" is really addictive, an album that should be played on Repeat, Until Death!

Bombus - Repeat Until Death

Monday, a new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

"Repeat Until Death" is the latest release from Scandinavian heavy metal band BOMBUS.

A band that continues to impress with every release and once again they have developed and have little bit of a different approach than the band’s previous album "The Poet and The Parrot". It's harder and more catchy than before, right straggly but well conceived, incredibly well written album that still sounds BOMBUS. I take my hat off and say congratulations! Damn this is good, you've really shown what you can do and I am impressed, well done guys.

The album opens up with a real killer "Eyes on the Price" where the guys doesn't waste any time before you hear the engine on the mean machine screams when they step on the gas. The album continues to impress with the second tune "Rust" where the heavy slows down a inch and grabs you in the heart with the brilliant melodies and choruses so you can't sit still any longer, you have to sing along. And hey, it doesn't end here, the 3:rd tune "Deadweight" and the 4:th "Horde of Flies" have the same approach. It's until the 5:th tune "I Call You Over (Hairy Teeth, Pt II)" when the BOMBUS machine hits the break and really slows down. A tune that partly stands out from the typical BOMBUS sound. It's not bad at all, it's different and I like it :) it have a really catchy vocal harmony. The album kicks off again with the title track of the album. Hard hitting drums, heavy guitar riffs that keeps it shaking it down. "Shake Them for What They’re Worth" is a progressive stomper with that wonderfully BOMBUS mess. "You the Man" is a heavy piece with a rockish MASTODON feeling. The album ends with "Get Your Cuts", a grandiose rhythmic piece, where the sound is dark, pompous like MUSE.

Summary:

An album that only have a playing time little over 30 minutes is an album that should be played on Repeat, Until Death!

Today's tune "Deadweight" is taken from the album "Repeat Until Death".

Bombus - Repeat Until Death

Saturday, let's continue in the trail of PLANET OF ZEUS and the Tour with HONG FAUX and CLUTCH. The other support act during this tour was the Swedish heavy metal/stoner band BOMBUS, from Gothenburg. With a upcoming 3:rd album they played 3 new tunes mixed up with some classic BOMBUS rockers. That BOMBUS guys rocks both on stage and in private is great, make life so much easier if you can work together. Anyway, they delivered a kick ass performance and I really looking forward to the new/upcoming album. Here comes some cool pictures from the Soundcheck and the show, enjoy!

Hong Faux - Coming Through the Rye

Monday, New week, time to present "Record of The Week".

"A Message from Dystopia" is the 3:rd release from the Swedish quartet HONG FAUX.
A band that have visited Tune Of The Day more than once, they are almost known as the "house band" nowadays :)

"A Message from Dystopia" is an album with a pretty wide musical palette, well-written tunes and an awesome song craft where the starting point is classic 70s rock, the songs have a grunge-like structure and pop harmonies with some stoner elements and heavy melodies, a great genre mixture where the flow is magnificent without feeling the slightest contrived.

The musicianship between the guys is like they have lived forever together :) The powerful voice of the singer Nik Serén is a trademark of its own, he sings clearly and brilliant. A voice that you will remember, that's for sure. Björn Billgren's guitar sound is Gibson classic and he delivers some real crunchy riffs on the album. The backing vocals are done by the bass player Johan Bergqvist who also sets the ground to the band in excellent way.  For the final, an very prominent drumming by Daniel Israelsson (who is now replaced by Jonathan Hummelman who is an excellent replacement to keep the groove going).

"A Message from Dystopia" continues on the path they created on their last album "Hello Neptune". Tracks like "Peter & Anne", "Scars" and "No Exit" are pure rockers and could be songs from the same drawing table as the rest on that album. "Coming Through the Rye" is one of softer tunes on the album, an amazing tune that really grows to a new level live. The latest single/video "From Now to Never More" is a real blast, catchy son of a bitch with an effective hook. The title track and the album closer is an piece of art, soft, quiet, acoustic beauty. The production is very good and sounds amazing on my record player. The album is produced by Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES)

Summary: An album that should be mandatory in every rockers/poppers record collection, "A Message From Dystopia" is really worth listening to, so check it up!

Today's tune "Coming Through the Rye" taken from "A Message from Dystopia" , enjoy!

Bombus - Enter The Night

Ooooohhh.... it is only just over 4 months left to one of the best days of the year. Every year. Yes - I am talking of the Annual Metal Night (or, as it is called in swedish, "Hårdrockskväll"), taking place every Twelfth Night (Trettondagsafton, again in swedish).
It is quite a simple idea from the start, that has grown to become less simple - and today, I am going to psychoanalyze and ramble on abaout the different personalities that are a part of this.
First off - some background and information so you are all on the same page here.

It started out some 5-7 years ago with a friend of mine that had this idea of a party. He said, "create a burned CD with some 10 songs that you think are classics and join us next friday".
Brilliant idea, as we then proceeded to play through every friends CD and drink beer during we laughed at each others horrible taste and sense of what a "classic" was.
The concept, of course, was way to good to just let go.
That was 2007, if I'm not mistaken.
Now, the concept has grown a lot, and the people have changed some.
The friend that started everything with his idea has not been a part of the Tyresö Metal Society since then (even though I hope to get him on board every year!), and everything is way more organized.
We shift host (best that way, as the neighbourhood tends to get a but sceptic after a day and a night of 15 hours metal on maximum volume) every year, and the host has heavy obligations.
He buys beer, snacks and liquor in advance.
He makes sure there are seatings so that all of us (we are 12 at the moment) can fit in there.
He orders/makes food and the night snack (usually pizza and hot dogs later on, a bit of a cliché but.. hey, we're rockers that are drinking beer. We ARE a cliché!)

The biggest difference has been on the songs though.
We have a spreadsheet with all of the different cathegories we can think of (Best Song Live, Best Black Metal, Best Guitar rif, Best Drumming, and so on), and every autumn we meet up to do the very serious voting.
Each member has 10 points that he can distribute as he pleases (so you can place all of your points on one cathegory, or 2 points on five differnt cathegories each, or.. well, you understand. It is also possible to use them negativily, so you can make sure that a certain cathegory you do not like is winning). Everyone wotes, either remotely or on site, and you have to decide how you are going to vote before it all starts.
In the end, the cathegories with the most points gets to be represented at the upcoming Twelfth Night.
We coose 7 songs, to be completed with the ever present number 8 cathegory "Best Right Now".
So, each member brings a CD with 8 tracks on them.
12 members.
That is quite a lot of music, and we play them cathegory by cathegory (so, everyones number on track first, that is also the cathegory with the most points in the voting).
It is a great evening, and for a lot of us it starts sometime in august or september when we try to decide wich songs we are going to be presented.
It's all a secret to the others, and it is not uncommon to try and find something very obscure that no one has ever heard before (and that is still, of course, kick-ass great).

So - the gang then.

It'r really not a pretty sight, but it is a merry bunch.
Instead of naming every one, I'll do my own versions of who we are... from a mocking perspective!
There is The Black Metal Guy, The Power Metal Guy, The Grunge-and-Rock Guy, The Metal Core Guy, The Guy That Always Get Really Drunk, The Other Guy That Always Get Very Drunk, The Guy That Tries To Introduce New Songs As Well As Classics Because He Can Never Decide (that's me!), The Guy Who Looses His Record On The Subway On The Way There...
In short, we are very much unlike each other - even though we are all rockers.
That is probably the key as well, as the night would be boring (musically) otherwise.
After all, 12 records of 8 songs each results in.. some 9 hours ofmusic if every song is roughly 5 minutes. We start at around 3 pm, so we finish around midnight, heads ringing and ears bleeding.

Stones is part of the Society, Thetania is not. At the moment, at least, the difficulty is rather the amount of people than anything else.
Stones is perhaps the type of personality that is best for the rest of us, as he constantly brings two things to the table:
a) the ugliest merch t-shirts
b) new, never heard of and exiting music for the rest of us the check out further

Yes. This is the Stones tee from last time. It is, to be nice, not a heavy metal tee....

However - the tune for today is a brand spanking new song, from a band that Stones have NOT played at anyone of these occasions, but that is something I feel is typical for him and that might just have been something he pulled out of his hat.
It is Gothenbourg rockers BOMBUS, with the new video for "Enter The Night", taken from the new "The Poet And The Parrot".

Excellent song, excellent video - and the perfect way to honour Stones.
BOMBUS has released two records, "the Poet And The Parrot" being the sophomore outing after the self titled debut.
The band consists of the following dudes:

As you can see, these guys are your typical rockers, and I am a bit surprised that Stones have not already pushed them to the Metal Society, especially since he reviewed the debut for Werock.
Interesting to see if he includes them this time, even though I do not think so.
Stones is of another sort.
He wants to surprice.
To reveal something unexpected. I'm half way there but so far have been a bit of a coward and included some known tunes as well, sort trying to eat the cake and have it at the same time...

However - this year, the Society has decided to do something a bit different.
There will be no voting, and instead we will have a free year.
Bring 8 great songs.
That, my friends, seem to turn out an even bigger challenge, as there are no framework at all to relate to, and I have already started fretting about songs that are fan-fucking-tastisc but probably will not make it to the final version of my record...
