Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas

Monday, a new week and a new year. Let's present 2020's first "Record Of The Week"

Climate issues have been the ultimate topic to speak about during 2019 and that is something the San Diego extreme metal band CATTLE DECAPITATION has really caught on with their eighth studio album "Death Atlas". They have never shied away from confronting the awfulness wrought upon the natural world by the human race, and "Death Atlas" is their bleakest offering to date. The cover art says it all: a stooped, skeletal Grim Reaper carrying the burnt-out husk of our planet on his back. The magnificent album artwork is done by Wes Benscoter.

The album's theme is humanity’s destruction of a dying world and it's the next step in the band's development where the extreme overlord's brutality spreads its wings and crosses the boundaries of many exhilarating genres and gives us the group’s most varied record by far.

"Death Atlas" delivers an unforgettable and really enjoyable hour full of technical virtuosity and aggression of today's careless and nonchalant people in our world. Musically is an extremely well-crafted beast with a distinct balance of hyper adrenaline rush and half paced, chunky melodic parts. Big riffs that will drop your chin, cut off from Josh Elmore and the newcomer Belisario Dimuzio, tight, creative and totally inhuman drummings by Dave McGraw, steady and well-picked bass lines by Olivier Pinard and the amazing vocals that only Travis Ryan masters. Lyrically is a lot of grief, anger, hate, passion and big emotions around humanity’s destruction. "Death Atlas" contains 14 tunes, broken up by several interludes like the intro "Anthropogenic: End Transmission". The first real tune "The Geocide" is a cruel piece that will shake off all the bad things that you have collected over the years as a human being. The blazing tremolo-picked riffs along with the killer blast-beats and the signature vocal with the clear message will make you follow the order to be a better human. Furious blasting in a thunderstorm tempo lays the path for "Be Still Our Bleeding Hearts", vocal changes along with amazing riffing that will satisfie you as a listener. "Vulturous" and "Finish Them" are two straightforward tunes with crunchy and stompy riffing. Lovely doom riffs along with the nasty goblin snarl in the beauty "Time’s Cruel Curtain", to the blackened "Bring Back The Plague" and "Absolute Destitute". The riff raffing tunes like "Finish Them" and "One Day Closer To The End Of The World" are both well done and enjoyable tunes to play on a high volume. The album closes up with the title tune "Death Atlas", over nine minutes of tempo changes between the high furious speed with a tremendous screech and middle rolling with a goblin snarl, a middle part with emotional atmosphere and sensible clear vocals until it fades out in the space.

I wonder if this could be Gretas favorite band 2019? This was one of the best albums in this genre during 2019, an excellent crafted extreme metal record. It will be very interesting how it will stand during the time. If you don't own this album, make sure to get it.

Sum: It's really time to do something about our planet.

Today's tune is the title track from "Death Atlas", enjoy!

Earthless - Black Heaven

Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

"Black Heaven" is the fifth studio album by the San Diego-based trio power trio, EARTHLESS. A band known for the instrumental jams thru out the years and now suddenly guitarist Isaiah Mitchell found out that he can do two things, play the guitar and sing, woohaa, and with drummer Mario Rubalcaba and bassist Mike Egington who adds a solid rhythms to the tunes. So with "Black Heaven" we get an EARTHLESS with a twist, nothing bad about it at all, on the contrary, it gives the music much more substance, a meaning, and facelift of an already classic band.

"Black Heaven" is a six tune album with full of mind-bending riffing, classic rock-influenced kraut with a light psychedelic atmosphere. The album opens up in a typical EARTHLESS style, improvised rock with the great album starter "Gifted by the Wind", melodic and catchy boogie, same formula is used on the next following songs "End to End" and "Electric Flame", as well as closer "Sudden End", the first single and video is the sub-two-minute punky "Volt Rush", a fast, full-power and all-go-down-hill tune. The title tune, "Black Heaven", starts with the ZEPPELIN alike intro, blending guitar riffs and soloing by Isaiah Mitchell. "Black Heaven" is a solid and well composed album with a great deal of spontaneity.

Nice looking Vinyl!

Sum: A boldness effort by EARTHLESS with "Black Heaven" ends up stronger than ever, don't miss this one!

Today's tune "Volt Rush" suites perfect as a week starter, enjoy!

Dirty Sweet - Baby Come Home

DIRTY SWEET was an american rock band formed in the fall of 2003 in San Diego, USA. Just months after their formation the band toured as main support for JIMMY EAT WORLD and made headlines in the British music magazine NME. Later they won the award for “Best new Rock and Roll band” at the 2005 San Diego Music Award and released their debut album, …Of Monarchs and Beggars, in 2007. Unfortunately the band split up in 2011, but rumors says that they will soon be back.

DIRTY SWEET plays Rock that is steeped in it's nation’s musical roots, from country to R&B, gospel to classic rock and heavy metal to proto-grunge. A mixture of disparate influences such as THE ROLLING STONES, Belgian jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and early U2 make them an interesting addition to today's budding rock climate. The San Diego-based quintet’s name perfectly describes their two-pronged approach to writing and performing, what the NME calls “skuzzy, ass-shaking rawk ‘n’ roll” crossed with the ability to pick up their acoustic guitars and craft a melodic ballad.

Discography: …Of Monarchs and Beggars (Seedling Records, 2007) & American Spiritual (Acetate Records, 2010)

Lineup:

Ryan Koontz (vocals)
Nathan Beale (guitar, vocals)
Christian Schinelli (bass, keys, vocals)
Chris Mendez-Vanacore (drums, vocals)
Mark Murino (guitar)

Today's tune "" is taken from the bands debut album "…Of Monarchs and Beggars" (Seedling Records, 2007), Enjoy!

Cattle Decapitation - Manufactured Extinct

"The Anthropocence Extinction" marks CATTLE DECAPITATIONs seventh studio album and sees the band expand on their growing flavor of death metal. Slowly abandoning the grind elements that dominated their early sound, the band heads into more expansive territories best represented by the opening song and today's tune "Manufactured Extinct."

CATTLE DECAPITATION is an American deathgrind band from San Diego, California, formed in 1996. The band's current line-up includes vocalist Travis Ryan, guitarist Josh Elmore, drummer Dave McGraw, and bassist Derek Engemann.

The last record, "Monolith of Inhumanity", dealt with the future of Earth, if mankind keeps its current style of life. "The Anthropocene Extinction" deals with the results of mankind's influence on the environment, such as the Great Pacific garbage patch.

Machines to make machines fabricating the end of all living things Sacrificing all morality, the ends never justify the means

Technology defines the ages - Our human history burns its own pages

That's part of the lyrics of today's tune, enjoy!
