MOTÖRHEAD is one of those bands that was played load in a house in Hertsön, Luleå where one of my best friends lived until he grew up and moved to my hometown. Heavy Metal, especially the NWOBTHM was played, thinking of bands like SAXON, IRON MAIDEN and the germans in ACCEPT and SCORPIONS.
That this dude and his older brother gave me more taste of these bands is not something I stick under the chair, even today they are kept high in course, especially MOTÖRHEAD and SAXON. Flashbacks in this time come virtually in my head every time a classic with these plays, a great time indeed.
Today's tune "No Class" is a song by the British heavy metal band MOTÖRHEAD. It was released in 1979 in 7" vinyl pressings. The song first appeared on the 1979 album "Overkill", and became one of the "cornerstones" of the classic 1981 live album "No Sleep 'til Hammersmith". It is one of the band's "anthems".
The single was available in three different covers, with either a picture of Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke or Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor. The single also contains the B-side "Like a Nightmare", which can be found on the reissued versions of "Overkill". The song was already a live track before it was recorded for "Overkill".
Stylistically, the song is described as "get-down rock boogie". Critics have noted the similarities at the time between Motörhead's music and ZZ TOP's, and the guitar riff in "No Class" is said to be "stolen" from ZZ TOP's "Tush."
On MOTÖRHEADs 1999 live album "Everything Louder Than Everyone Else", before playing "No Class" Lemmy dedicated the song to long-time friend Wendy O. Williams, who had committed suicide the previous month.

"Pyromania" is the third studio album by English rock band DEF LEPPARD, released on 20 January 1983 through Vertigo Records in UK and Europe and through Mercury Records in the US. The first album to feature guitarist Phil Collen who replaced founding member Pete Willis, "Pyromania" was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The album was a shift away from the band's traditional heavy metal roots toward more radio-friendly glam metal and hard rock, finding massive mainstream success.
I believe that I bought "Pyromania" during summer 1983, could have been 1984 as well, not 100% sure, it's such a long time ago. This is an album that I got recommended from one of my best friends during a summer visit at Santasaari when my friend's older cousin was over and he played this and I thought that they rocked well, nice riffs and cool tunes. Besides the marvelous appetizer "Gravad Sik", which you can read about here! Was eaten "Pyromania" got played. The album is pretty worn out, at least the copy from back then, got a few others during the years.
Today's tune "Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)" is taken from their 1983 album, "Pyromania". An edited version was released as a single in Mexico that same year. The song was originally titled "Medicine Man" and contained different lyrics.

"Kill 'Em All" the debut studio album by the American heavy metal band METALLICA also made a big impact for the pimply brat who just beginning to get pubic hair. Thrash metal, Speed metal made its appearance in one's life. From here it could go a little anyway, a very exciting time.
Kill 'Em All was released on July 25, 1983, by the independent record label Megaforce Records. "Kill 'Em All" is regarded as a groundbreaking album for thrash metal because of its precise musicianship, which fuses new wave of British heavy metal riffs with hardcore punk tempos. The album's musical approach and lyrics were markedly different from rock's mainstream of the early 1980s and inspired a number of bands who followed in similar manner. The album generated two singles, "Whiplash" and "Jump in the Fire".
METALLICA began by playing shows in local clubs in Los Angeles. They recorded several demos to gain attention from club owners, and eventually relocated to San Francisco to secure the services of bassist Cliff Burton. The group's No Life 'til Leather demo tape (1982) was noticed by Megaforce label head Jon Zazula, who signed them and provided a budget of $15,000 for recording. The album was recorded in May with producer Paul Curcio at the Music America Studios in Rochester, New York. It was originally intended to be titled "Metal Up Your Ass", with cover art featuring a hand clutching a dagger emerging from a toilet bowl. The band was asked to change the name because distributors feared that releasing an album with such an offensive title and artwork would diminish its chances of commercial success. METALLICA promoted the album on the two-month co-headlining "Kill 'Em All" for One tour with English heavy metal band RAVEN in the U.S. Although the initial shipment was 15,000 copies in the U.S., the album sold 60,000 copies worldwide by the end of METALLICAs Seven Dates of Hell European tour in 1984.
Today's tune "The Four Horsemen", the clip is live at The Metro, 1983. Dave Mustaine was an early member of METALLICA , and co-wrote several songs on Kill 'Em All. His erratic and violent behavior led to his expulsion from the band prior to recording the album. Enjoy!

After KISS made their entrance in one's life, did the doors opened up to try other things, dare to stretch out your hand for the more dangerous and forbidden, be a rebel. And during this time as a fleck brat many dangerous bands find its way into my room. Like MÖTLEY CRUE, W.A.S.P., VENOM, and MANOWAR among many.
I do have a great memory when I got "Shout At The Devil" with MÖTLEY CRUE, a few friends of mine usually hang out downstairs at one of my best childhood friends. Playing pool and listen to music. One day I did take the album "Shout At The Devil" with me, pretty quickly it got to be a real favorite, got many spins until we agreed to create a band and play tunes like this. We grabbed a few tennis rackets and mounted our own guitar/bass makeups, I believe that I played bass on this one. Anyway, after some time we agreed to arrange a concert for our parents, that including MÖTLEY CRUE and W.A.S.P. tunes, of course, it was played at high volume and eager youths who wanted to show off, with makeup as MÖTLEY CRUE, air guitars and lip-synced vocals we performed a concert that kind of ended after a song or two when the parents didn't agree with what was playing... haha.
"Shout At The Devil" is the second studio album by American heavy metal band MÖTLEY CRUE, released on September 26, 1983. It was the band's breakthrough album, establishing MÖTLEY CRUE as one of the top selling heavy metal acts of the 1980s.

"Creatures Of The Night" by American rock band KISS did a big change for me, it was the first record I got, scary dudes with face paint and stage outfits from a other dimension. The Starchild (Stanley) with a catchy vocal, the Demon (Simmons) with his long tongue and bloody face, the Spaceman or Space Ace (Frehley) cruel guitar player with riffs you never heard before, and the Catman (Criss) a really cool drummer. A gang that you would love as a kid so the room got decorated with posters of the band.
"Creatures Of The Night", it's the 10th studio album by American rock band KISS, released in 1982. It was the band's last for Casablanca Records, the only label for which KISS had recorded up to that point. The album was dedicated to the memory of Casablanca founder and early KISS supporter Neil Bogart, who had died of cancer during the recording sessions. It is also the band's last album recorded with Ace Frehley credited as an official member and their first album with Vinnie Vincent as the initially-uncredited lead guitarist (Vincent would later be credited but not featured on the cover of the 1985 reissue of the album). It was also Kiss' last album to feature the band with their trademark makeup until "Psycho Circus" was released.
My guitar hero back then got to be Ace Frehley, i thought the solos was awesome and he looked so cool on all the pictures that I framed my wall with, found out later that he didn't even play on this album...haha I got fooled.
Today's tune is one of the lost gems KISS didn't include in the Kissology series. With Ace on guitar (for the last time) KISS played Creatures of the Night in lip-sync several times during their promotional TV tour in Europe.

"Back In Black" with AC/DC is a real classic, released almost 36 years ago, on July 25, 1980, the biggest-selling album by Australia's most exalted rock 'n' roll gods arrived less than six months after singer Bon Scott had been found dead after a night of heavy drinking. An album that I could consider to be the first rock 'n' roll / hardrock album that I bought with my own money that I have saved of my after school work on a Video store. I believe I was around 11 years old, did the 5th grade in School and was very interested in movies, so much of my spear time did I hang in local Video store up in the north (this was during the time when the movies was on VHS, Video2000 and Betamax), hehe feels like I'm a real old fart by now. Anyway, I started to get some small assignment to do and in the end he gave me some money that I saved. One of the biggest assignments I got was the "Packages" that this store had, this ment that I had to bicycle over to Finland with packages full of "Erotic" movies that he had sold over postorder. During the period of a few years the amount of turns to the other country increased. The postorder started to get big business for him and I got more work so I had to do several trips a day to the post office. Well in the end it was good for us both, I got some extra money for my effort so I could do what ever I wanted back them, fun as I always had a big love for music, specially rock 'n' roll. I remember that back then a tune called "Hells Bells" from an Australian band called AC/DC was played on the radio and I got hooked. So when I had enough money for the album I bought it. It felt awesome that I could spend my hard earning money on a album by my self :) So the first record was "Back In Black" with AC/DC. I still have the copy left, but it's totally worn out, I have probably played this more than I can count.
The album have so many good tunes beside the classic songs "Hells Bells", "Back In Black", "Shoot To Thrill", "You Shock Me All Night Long" and "Shake A Leg". It's pretty simple but still so cleaver rock riffs that can hook anyone, it just grabbed my soul as a youngster to the next level of music.
Today's tune "Shoot to Thrill" is a song by Australian hard rock band AC/DC. It is the second track on the 1980 album "Back In Black". This song is also the second track of AC/DC Live and AC/DC Live: 2 CD Collector's Edition, and is included on the Iron Man 2 soundtrack. Although the studio version was never released as a single, the song is a fan favorite and a staple on classic rock radio stations.
When explaining his lyrical inspiration for the song, lead singer and then-songwriter Brian Johnson recalled reading a UK article about a neighborhood pusher who made daily rounds (almost like a milkman) throughout the London suburbs, selling narcotics to bored, lonely, depressed housewives. These substance-effected homemakers would then peruse the local clubs and bars, seeking out torrid, extra-marital relationships. The term "Shoot to thrill.." most likely refers to certain solutions such as diazepam (valium), which is often administered via injection to treat anxiety and depression.
Lead guitarist Angus Young has recently commented that the song's 'break-down', which occurs soon after the main solo (a muted and repeating three chord sequence of A Major triad, G Major triad, and a D power-chord leading up to a bombastic outro-solo), was inspired by the trio gun-battle climax from Sergio Leone's classic, Italian western 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". In this seminal scene, gun-fighters Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach stare one another down in the center of a Civil-War cemetery for minutes-on-end to an eventual shoot-out. Young said this sequence in the song was designed to mirror the actual soundtrack selection 'Il Triello' by composer Ennio Morricone. Both compositions feature a slow quiet build-up, increasing in tension to a thunderous, cataclysmic finale. Enjoy!
But before that, I have to mention that both Thetania and I have gotten a few assignments. "Choosing 10 vinyl albums that greatly influenced my taste". One album per day, 10 consecutive days. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. Every day I ask someone else to do the same." Pretty fun thing a little boring at the same time, just a cover, even if a picture tells more than 1000 words you would like to know the story behind it specially when it's regarding a records.
One of my first albums that I can remember is
"King Creole", by American singer and musician Elvis Presley, issued by RCA Victor, in September 1958, this was the second soundtrack album from him, recorded in four days at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. It contains songs written and recorded expressly for the 1958 film of the same name starring Presley, and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart. It followed the film's release by over ten weeks. It was certified Gold on July 15, 1999 by the Recording Industry Association of America.
I believe I can blame my mum for this, a record that I got from her when I was around 6-7 years old and just had open my ears for music that I hardly could understand as it was in a foreign language :) An artist who was always up to date when you got home, even in old age when you came home for Christmas and summer time to visit mother and siblings. Elvis was also my big sisters big Idol that also imprinted me with Rock n Roll.
Today's tune "Trouble" is a blues song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, originally performed by Elvis Presley in 1958 and covered by a number of artists in later years, most notably by Amanda Lear. The tune is taken from the album "King Creole". "Trouble" also made a big impact, I believe it was Presley's "growling snarl" which laid the foundation for what is to come.
Elvis Presley performed the song in the 1958 motion picture King Creole, and his recording was included on the soundtrack of the same name. "Trouble", featuring Scotty Moore on guitar, was one of only three songs written by Leiber and Stoller for the feature. Presley's performance in the film alludes to Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley. "If you're looking for trouble", he intones, "then look right in my face. Because I'm evil. My middle name is Misery". Music critic Maury Dean suggests that "Trouble", with Presley's "growling snarl", is one of the earliest proto-punk rock songs.
Ten years later, Presley opened his 1968 comeback special with this number. With dark, moody lighting highlighting his sneer, the sequence alluded to Presley's checkered past and "dangerous" image and served to prove that the singer was still "sexy, surly and downright provocative". The piece then segued into "Guitar Man" against a "Jailhouse Rock" backdrop featuring male dancers in cells. Presley performed the song several times on tour in the early 1970s and unofficial recordings of these performances have circulated. In 1975, Presley recorded "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" for a single, but this is a completely different song.
The song was included in the musical revue Smokey Joe's Cafe. Enjoy!
Saturday, have celebrated my daughters birthday, it's actually on Monday for real, but in order to sync with the whole family, it was the best day for all, so cake and coffee with some presents for the youngster.
So as tradition the youngster will choose the tune.
Happy Birthday, Kid!
"Copycat", stylized as "COPYCAT", is the opening track on Billie Eilish's debut EP, "Dont Smile At Me". It served as the fourth single, released on July 13th, 2017. The Sofi Tukker remix was officially released on January 11th, 2018.
In an interview with Genius, Billie mentioned that she wrote the song with her brother about a girl who copies everything that she does. She said, "I write with my brother mostly. That song, we were just in his room, and I was like, "Yo! There’s this fucking girl and she keeps doing everything that I do. And I want to write about it." Because it was in my mind. A lot."
Blackgaze pioneers ALCEST dive back into metal territories with the new single "Protection", (see and hear it below) taken from the upcoming sixth album "Spiritual Instinct", looks like this might be a breathtaking piece of art that I am looking forward to.
"Spiritual Instinct" will be released on Nuclear Blast for the first time.
For principal songwriter and frontman Neige, ALCEST has always been a gateway to the otherworldly, a means of exploring his spirituality. An elemental two-piece, completed by long-serving drummer and creative confidante Winterhalter, their sixth album "Spiritual Instinct" finds Neige at his most personal. “This time I had something urgent to put on the table,” he explains. “It is a very cathartic record- something needed to get out of me. It’s darker than usual, and heavier.”
Written in bursts both during and after a prolonged period of touring in support of 2016’s hugely successful "Kodama".
Today's tune "Protection", is the first music video from the upcoming album "Spiritual Instinct", out October 25th.

The Minneapolis veteran rockers RED DESERT bring a cool blended creation to the world of metal, combining heavy, deliberate elements of doom, the down-tuned distortional fuzz of stoner rock, a unique and haunting vocal delivery, and above all a master craftsman's grasp of song structure with deep, twisted, metal tapestries interwoven around soul-stirring melodies of exceptional insight and dispatch. This foursome from Minnesota come at you with an abiding passion, unshakable confidence, and a fierce and joyous delivery. Drenched inblasting distortion, melody, and menace, VOKONIS is ready to fully blossom as the progressive beast they’ve held within since 2015. As you share a psychedelic and thrilling journey VOKONIS will have shown their range from full-blown doom to melodically blissful passages.
VOKONIS third and upcoming album “Grasping Time” will be released in the spring of 2019 on The Sign Records. Simon said of the process; “We’re practically living in our practice space. So it’s no wonder we’ve been productive. I always wanted for us to write our own "Crack The Skye". This might be it.”
Simon, Emil, and Jonte have since their start putting everything in high gear. While they’ve released two records, being featured in the highly profiled “The Planet of Doom”-animated movie, Vokonis aren’t stepping down in tempo. Neither are satisfied. Metamorphosis/Spiritual rock with a experimental 1970´s kind of sound of the Swedish LYKANTROPI.
LYKANTROPI is a bit like a modern day rebellion against all gloomy indie and electronic pop, a band that cherishes the old tradition that was made a long time ago in a brilliant way with shimmering guitars, beautiful vocal harmonies, a well-oiled rhythm section makes it both efficient and groovy.

Monday, a new week and it's time to shake some life in the "Record of The Week".
"Of Blood And Wine" is the second full-length from the French melodic doom quartet THE NECROMANCERS.
The album is a six-track, 44-minute long buffet with mixed melodic doom and classic heavy metal from the past, garish and whiskey drenched vocals, galloping heavy riffage with a stench of the 70's hard rock, springled with SABBATH with a layer of NWOBHM.
The album opens up with a soundtrack guitar riff, first thoughts lands on an early Frankenstein, until the shape changes and "Join The Dead Ones" starts for real, the vocals, melody flirts with GHOST, until the chorus comes and the vocals gets turbid and wheezy, an occult doomish wibe lies over the track. The next tune "Erzebeth" is a 13-minute epic piece and really stands out, dual galloping riffs that throw us back in time, floats out like an octopussy and fingers a bit here and there, wonderful, a true beauty. The tunes have a pretty long playtime except for the title track, just under three minutes which spins low-melted through as an interlude. Halfway through the album, it's time for the catchy "Secular Lord", full of hormone-induced musicians that just bubbles of crazy but well-thought creations that end up in excellent tune. "Lust" is a half pace tune that flows nicely until it half burst out in the middle and shifts direction in the end. The album closes up with the epic chanting tune "The Gathering", where an occult sacrifice ceremony takes place in the backyard, a gloomy landscape opens up and you wonder where the hell you are, say hey to the devil, you have just been sold. To summarize the album its highly majestic release and a superb follow-up to "Servants Of The Salem Girl".

It was 1995. Grunge was wearing woefully thin and nu-metal was lurking just around the corner. Someone needed to blast a hole through this wall of mumbling self-pity and sexless whining, preferably using a giant raygun full of drugs, naked women and mind-bending space rock anthems. So, who you gonna call?
“I’ll never forget it,” he recalls today. “It was like, ‘Alright, I wanna do everything on "Dopes To Infinity" that I didn’t do on "Superjudge". "Superjudge" was a really annoying- sounding record with a lot of mid-range stuff. On "Dopes To Infinity" I wanted to make a kind of smooth, ethereal kind of rock record. I wanted the whole thing to have that really consistent sound. I want to be able to put on this record and be instantly transported to the land of "Dopes To Infinity" and I’ll never wanna leave that land! I didn’t want it to sound like a random collection of songs. I really wanted to make something that was completely different from everything else out there.”
“The record became a total mission for me,” he admits. “It didn’t take that long but it seemed like it took forever because I was always making shit up as it went along. I’d go back to the hotel room and draw diagrams and crazy stuff. It was right at the dawn of digital sampling and all the samples sounded like shit and I wanted real instruments, so I was renting real Mellotrons, and they’re a huge pain in the ass. They’re huge instruments and they have to be tuned constantly. Everything was a tuning nightmare. I was tuning the drums with a guitar tuner! Ha ha ha ha! It was nuts. It was a real weird experience for the guys I was working with too. They’d never done anything like that before. We were working from four o’clock in the afternoon until eight in the morning and the poor engineers had just about had it, like, ‘What do you want now, Dave?’”
“I remember the record company saying, ‘Would you please try and make it sound at least like something people might recognise?’” says Dave. “I think the guy was just trying to tell me in his own way that I could do myself a lot of favours if I could just buckle down and write at least one song for the masses. I kinda did it with "Negasonic Teenage Warhead". I guess that was my answer to him. It’s not hard, you know? NIRVANA songs just sounded like BOSTON to me, like "More Than A Feeling". So I took one of those riffs and wrote the whole thing in half an hour.”
“It was shit! A total disaster! Fucking horrible! Ha ha!” he roars. “But seriously, it was somewhat close to what I wanted, but when it was over I kinda thought I’d gone a bit too far. It’s such a world of its own that it doesn’t have much dynamics inside of it. It’s not emotional enough. That’s where Powertrip came from. It had to be more emotional and I had to separate myself from being a producer and a singer. That’s the one problem I have with "Dopes To Infinity", that I was a producer first and a singer second. Live and learn, man. It’s still a fuckin’ cool record.” This feature was originally published in Classic Rock issue 94, in May 2006.
Today's tune "Look To Your Orb For the Warning" by the New Jersy rock band MONSTER MAGNET, the video is filmed (Live in Düsseldorf, Germany - 16th April 1995) the tune is taken from the third album "Dopes to Infinity". It was released on March 21, 1995. The tune "Look To Your Orb For the Warning" is a real favorite from the album, chugging riffs in midtempo which progresses slowly like a bulldozer thru everything on its way. Enjoy!

THE RIVEN is an electrifying powerhouse. Envision Heavy Blues Rock, focused on big choruses and mean riffs. Progressive, psychedelic and classical music standing side by side with a fateful and vigorous voice. Each song like a chapter, telling tales and stories from the past and the future. THE RIVEN emerges as a Pure Rock element.
Díaz brings the frantic riffs and the bluesy licks, Ekebergh gives you soul and hooks, thunder circulates as Ternebring stirs up melodic bass lines harmonizing simultaneously with guitar and drums while Axegärd brings the NWOBHM drive and the proggy touch to the mix.

THE HEAVY MINDS are a Garage-Psych band based in Upper Austria. Even though the idea of genre-boundaries is quite meaningless for the band themselves, it would probably be most appropriate to claim that the boys are influenced by a huge musical melting pot of sounds of the late 60's 'n 70's, Garage/Prog/Krautrock, Heavy Psych, Lo-Fi, Neo-Psychedelia and all sorts of underground rawness.
All of their material was recorded at Chris' small homestudio, mixed by Marco Kleebauer (LEYYA, KARMA ART, ...) and mastered by Alpha Mastering. Furthermore and from now on the group will be joined live by Benedikt Brands (MY FRIEND PETER, HIGH BRIAN,...) on bass and synths.
One of the most significant scenes in the video was shot at the "Kometor", which is an art project that combines abstract artistry with galactic imagery and is one of the highlights of Peuerbach. The small town, located in Upper Austria, is also the bands hometown.
THE HEAVY MINDS is:
Lukas Götzenberger (guitar, vocals),
Tobias Hochwagen (guitar),
Christoph Hofer (drums),
Benedikt Brands (bass, synths)
Today's tune is the title tune taken from the bands latest album "Second Mind", enjoy!
