TROUBLE frontman and doom icon Eric Wagner’s posthumous "In The Lonely Light Of Morning" is great goodbye to a legend. It always sad to listen to posthumously released albums.

The untimely passing of Eric Wagner in August 2021 robbed the metal world of one of its greatest ever voices. With doom pioneers TROUBLE, and an assortment of other projects, it cuts extra deep to spin this. In an unintended twist of fate, Eric had put the finishing touches on his debut solo album, "In the Lonely Light of Mourning" mere weeks before his passing. It now serves as the definitive swansong for one of doom metal’s most beloved voices.

Eric Wagner’s posthumous solo album, "In The Lonely Light Of Morning", was released March 18th, 2022 via Cruz Del Sur Music.

But, it is doom at its core: Earthy, honest, brooding and heavy -- just the way Eric preferred. "In The Lonely Light Of Morning" also finds Eric at his most vulnerable, with some lyrics suggesting he knew something foreboding was right around the corner. Eric Wagner's legacy is permanently secure in the annals of doom metal. Thus, it is impossible to quantify his impact on the metal scene. His legacy with Trouble is reflected in the countless bands who followed in their wake, purveying the same kind of heartfelt, undeniably heavy doom metal that touches the mind and spirit. Travel on, Eric.

The Skull - The Longing

Today it's a sad day, Eric Wagner has passed away, he died of complications from COVID-19 on August 22, 2021, at age 62 in Las Vegas.

Eric Wagner (April 24, 1959 – August 22, 2021) was an American heavy metal singer who is best known for his work with the doom metal band TROUBLE, which he formed in 1979. He briefly left TROUBLE in the mid-1990s and formed LID with guitarist Danny Cavanagh, resulting in 1997's "In The Mushroom". He also appeared on Dave Grohl's heavy metal side project PROBOT in 2004 with the song "My Tortured Soul".

Wagner rejoined TROUBLE in 2000, and recorded one more album with them, "Simple Mind Condition" (2007), before leaving the band once again in May 2008 to pursue other musical interests and projects.

Wagner had also been recording under the band name BLACKFINGER. He also formed THE SKULL, which features former TROUBLE bassist Ron Holzner and drummer Jeff "Oly" Olson. The band's name is derived from TROUBLEs second album "The Skull".

Elvis Presley - Trouble

Sunday, time for a classic.

But before that, I have to mention that both Thetania and I have gotten a few assignments. "Choosing 10 vinyl albums that greatly influenced my taste". One album per day, 10 consecutive days. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. Every day I ask someone else to do the same." Pretty fun thing a little boring at the same time, just a cover, even if a picture tells more than 1000 words you would like to know the story behind it specially when it's regarding a records.

One of my first albums that I can remember is "King Creole", by American singer and musician Elvis Presley, issued by RCA Victor, in September 1958, this was the second soundtrack album from him, recorded in four days at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. It contains songs written and recorded expressly for the 1958 film of the same name starring Presley, and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart. It followed the film's release by over ten weeks. It was certified Gold on July 15, 1999 by the Recording Industry Association of America.

I believe I can blame my mum for this, a record that I got from her when I was around 6-7 years old and just had open my ears for music that I hardly could understand as it was in a foreign language :) An artist who was always up to date when you got home, even in old age when you came home for Christmas and summer time to visit mother and siblings. Elvis was also my big sisters big Idol that also imprinted me with Rock n Roll.

Today's tune "Trouble" is a blues song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, originally performed by Elvis Presley in 1958 and covered by a number of artists in later years, most notably by Amanda Lear. The tune is taken from the album "King Creole". "Trouble" also made a big impact, I believe it was Presley's "growling snarl" which laid the foundation for what is to come.

Elvis Presley performed the song in the 1958 motion picture King Creole, and his recording was included on the soundtrack of the same name. "Trouble", featuring Scotty Moore on guitar, was one of only three songs written by Leiber and Stoller for the feature. Presley's performance in the film alludes to Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley. "If you're looking for trouble", he intones, "then look right in my face. Because I'm evil. My middle name is Misery". Music critic Maury Dean suggests that "Trouble", with Presley's "growling snarl", is one of the earliest proto-punk rock songs.

Ten years later, Presley opened his 1968 comeback special with this number. With dark, moody lighting highlighting his sneer, the sequence alluded to Presley's checkered past and "dangerous" image and served to prove that the singer was still "sexy, surly and downright provocative". The piece then segued into "Guitar Man" against a "Jailhouse Rock" backdrop featuring male dancers in cells. Presley performed the song several times on tour in the early 1970s and unofficial recordings of these performances have circulated. In 1975, Presley recorded "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" for a single, but this is a completely different song.

The Skull - Ravenswood

The Chicago doom metal band THE SKULLs new LP, "The Endless Road Turns Dark", drops September 7th. First taste from it, is the single/video "Ravenswood".

THE SKULL is a musical collaboration founded by three former members of American doom metal pioneers TROUBLE; vocalist Eric Wagner, bassist Ron Holzner and drummer Jeff "Oly" Olson, all three noted for their talents and strong influence in the worldwide metal scene. TROUBLE formed in 1979 and is universally hailed as one of the pioneers of doom metal genre, alongside bands such as PENTAGRAM, WITCHFINDER GENERAL, CANDLEMASS and SAINT VITUS. TROUBLE created a distinct (and distinctly HEAVY) style by merging influences from the British heavy metal bands BLACK SABBATH and JUDAS PRIEST with psychedelic rock acts of the 1970s. The band's first two albums, "Psalm 9" (released in 1984, enshrined in Decibel Magazine's "Hall of Fame" and regarded as one of the most important doom albums ever) and "The Skull" (1985) are cited as doom metal landmarks. The band later went on to flirt with crossover success when they signed with Rick Rubin's Def American Recordings for the release of 1992's "Manic Frustration".

THE SKULL formed in 2011 to "continue the sounds and spirit of TROUBLE - past, present, future" and has been performing for audiences in the United States and Europe to overwhelming response. THE SKULL released its first new material as a band in the spring of 2014 via NYC's Tee Pee Records.

The band's name is derived from TROUBLEs second album "The Skull".

Saint Vitus - Blessed Night

Sunday, a day that you really should only be relaxed, in other words, do not do more than is needed. But I've certainly been busy, but not jobs, but here at home, also gave me the chance to fix some images, the backcatalogue began to get really big and realized that this will take a whole day to fix, well, I took some time and fixed the two previous gigs that I shot, will be here eventually, also I took my way through the half of the Sweden Rock pictures, which is well done.

Sunday means the classics here at Tune Of The Day, so then we pick one Classic Act that played at Sweden Rock.

L.A. Doom giants Saint Vitus played a very good performance at the Sweden Rock Festival, well played and really heavy. The band formed in 1978. They consist of founding members Dave Chandler (guitarist) and Mark Adams (bass), alongside sporadic singer Scott Weinrich and recently added drummer Henry Vasquez. The band has been regarded and credited as one of the first bands of the genre, starting out as early as the late 1970s, along with Pentagram, Witchfinder General, Trouble and Candlemass. As of 2012, they have released eight studio albums.

Todays tune "Blessed Night" is taken from the eighth studio album "Lillie: F-65", which was released on April 27, 2012. This is the first Saint Vitus studio album since 1995's Die Healing and the first to feature Scott "Wino" Weinrich on vocals in 22 years, since 1990's V. It also marks their first album with Henry Vasquez on drums.

In an interview, Wino explained the album title name was in reference to a powerful downer back in the day and that Dave Chandler really had a thing for his downers.
