Motörhead – No Class

Time to present album number seven out of ten of the assignments we got. "Choosing 10 vinyl albums that greatly influenced my taste". One album per day, 10 consecutive days. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. Every day I ask someone else to do the same." Throwing the ball at some nice figure at the social media Facebook.

MOTÖRHEAD is one of those bands that was played load in a house in Hertsön, Luleå where one of my best friends lived until he grew up and moved to my hometown. Heavy Metal, especially the NWOBTHM was played, thinking of bands like SAXON, IRON MAIDEN and the germans in ACCEPT and SCORPIONS.

That this dude and his older brother gave me more taste of these bands is not something I stick under the chair, even today they are kept high in course, especially MOTÖRHEAD and SAXON. Flashbacks in this time come virtually in my head every time a classic with these plays, a great time indeed.

Today's tune "No Class" is a song by the British heavy metal band MOTÖRHEAD. It was released in 1979 in 7" vinyl pressings. The song first appeared on the 1979 album "Overkill", and became one of the "cornerstones" of the classic 1981 live album "No Sleep 'til Hammersmith". It is one of the band's "anthems".

The single was available in three different covers, with either a picture of Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke or Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor. The single also contains the B-side "Like a Nightmare", which can be found on the reissued versions of "Overkill". The song was already a live track before it was recorded for "Overkill".

Stylistically, the song is described as "get-down rock boogie". Critics have noted the similarities at the time between Motörhead's music and ZZ TOP's, and the guitar riff in "No Class" is said to be "stolen" from ZZ TOP's "Tush."

On MOTÖRHEADs 1999 live album "Everything Louder Than Everyone Else", before playing "No Class" Lemmy dedicated the song to long-time friend Wendy O. Williams, who had committed suicide the previous month.

Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer

Sunday, time for a classic!

"Sonic Reducer" is a punk rock song written by Gene O'Connor and David Thomas during their tenure in Rocket from the Tombs, which made its recorded debut on THE DEAD BOYS 1977 album Young, Loud and Snotty with a change of lyrics that were rewritten by Stiv Bators. The song is widely regarded as a punk classic and has been covered by bands as varied as GUNS N' ROSES, OVERKILL, PEARL JAM, FOETUS, DOZER, ADULT CRASH, DIE TOTEN HOSEN, RAINY DAY SAINTS in a slow tempo on Diamond Star Highway and Saves the Day. The song appeared on the UK compilation album "New Wave", produced by UK actor and mystic, Pete Knobbler. The song was sampled on the BEASTIE BOYS song "An Open Letter to NYC" on their 2004 album To The 5 Boroughs. It is also featured on the skateboarding video game Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (by Saves the Day). It was also performed by fictional punk rock outfit Hard Core Logo in Bruce McDonald's 1997 mockumentary, Hard Core Logo.

THE DEAD BOYS were an American punk rock band from Cleveland, Ohio. The band was among the first wave of early punk bands, and was known as one of the rowdiest and most violent punk groups of the era. THE DEAD BOYS were initially active from 1976 to 1979, briefly reuniting in 1986, and then later again in 2004 and 2005 without their frontman Stiv Bators.

Today's tune "Sonic Reducer" by DEAD BOYS taken from the first studio album "Young Loud and Snotty". It was recorded and released in 1977 on Sire Records, produced by Genya Ravan.

Here is one of the great covers made of this song.
